Let's challenge some stereotypes by dissecting this "10 Harsh Masculine Truths" post and reframing toxic masculinity as an issue of individual character. Through stoic principles, we emphasize humility, resilience, and genuine strength over cynicism or bravado. Shifting to the life in the Dojo, we explore the true meaning of earning a Blackbelt, not as an end goal but as the beginning of lifelong learning, teaching, and humility. We discuss aging as a martial artist and the importance of inclusivity and respect within the community. Finally, we unpack emotional authenticity in men, using the “crayon box” metaphor to encourage a broader range of expression, touching on gaming, comics, and other outlets that reveal how growth and effort define real strength.--------- EPISODE CHAPTERS ---------(0:00:04) - Unpacking Masculine Truths and Toxicity(0:21:33) - Exploring the Meaning of Black Belts(0:35:11) - Defining Masculinity Through Warrior Image(0:53:06) - Navigating Performative Masculinity Challenges(0:58:13) - Navigating Male Coping Mechanisms and EgoSend us a text
“It's so easy to chase perfection, but it doesn't exist. The whole world is built on imperfection - and that's what makes it beautiful.”It was our privilege to talk to World Cup winner and Bristol Bears tighthead Sarah Bern for today's episode of The Game Changers podcast as she relives that history-making day at Twickenham and what's to follow. Sarah candidly traces her journey from a teenager wrestling with body image to a visible role model for strong, muscular women. Authentic on and off the pitch, Sarah shares how Ilona Maher's arrival at Bristol Bears helped her find her own voice on social media - a powerful tool to drive change and open vital commercial doors for female athletes.Sarah takes us behind the scenes - sharing what it's feels like in an England scrum or waiting in the tunnel walk to walk out in front of 82,000 fans. We also talk about the crossover of fashion and women's sport with the launch of her own clothing label - Below the Shoulder - with her teammates, a Vogue photoshoot and how Red Roses merchandise has been selling out in stores.Looking ahead, Sarah calls for true equality across sport as we judge female athletes by what happens on the pitch, not by their appearance. Her legacy goal is simple and powerful - to help women feel comfortable in their own skin so they can attack life with purpose and joy.Thank you to Sport England who support The Game Changers Podcast with a National Lottery award.Find out more about The Game Changers podcast here: https://www.fearlesswomen.co.uk/thegamechangersHosted by Sue AnstissProduced by Sam Walker, What Goes On MediaA Fearless Women production

What happens when the energy that's always defined you simply vanishes? For decades, Sue Holly-Rodway was a powerhouse … a dynamic senior leader in the tech world, an executive coach, and a woman known for her drive, passion and light. Then long COVID struck, and that light dimmed overnight. The fatigue was relentless. The smallest tasks became impossible. Life as she knew it collapsed into stillness. In this deeply moving conversation, Sue opens up about the physical and emotional unravelling that followed, and the long process of rediscovery that came next. We talk about the loss of identity that comes when your strength - your energy - is gone, and what it takes to rebuild not from momentum, but from meaning. Sue's story is one of resilience and grace. It's about finding clarity when everything goes dark … and learning that even when the light goes out, it can come back in a softer, wiser form. --The Unlock Moment podcast is brought to you by Dr Gary Crotaz, PhD. In this heartfelt episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Amy Friesen—award-winning entrepreneur, author, and founder of Tea & Toast—about the emotional realities of caregiving, trauma, and entrepreneurship. Amy shares how her personal journey through loss and family dysfunction led to creating two impactful organizations dedicated to guiding caregivers and families through the complex world of elder care. Amy reveals how building a business was both an act of survival and healing, and how her work now helps others navigate caregiving with boundaries, resilience, and community. From launching an entire industry category to supporting caregivers facing trauma, Amy's story offers powerful lessons for anyone balancing emotional weight with leadership. About the Guest: Amy Friesen is the founder of Tea and Toast and Elder Care Planners of Canada, both pioneering services helping Canadian families navigate eldercare. With over two decades in the senior living industry, Amy's mission is to bring clarity, structure, and compassion to an emotionally taxing process. She's also the author of a book that empowers caregivers with practical tools and insight to make informed, confident decisions. Key Takeaways: Caregiving often reactivates old trauma, especially in estranged or difficult family relationships. Entrepreneurship can be a vehicle for healing—but it requires resilience when recognition is absent. Amy created a new category in eldercare planning from scratch, confronting legal and systemic barriers with determination. “You are not alone” is more than a slogan—it's a strategy for mental wellness through connection and community. Leadership in caregiving isn't about doing more, but about setting boundaries and doing what matters.
