Finding Body Peace with Nina Manolson Guest Nina Manolson  Summary: This episode of *Come Back to Love®* is one that will bring you straight into your heart—deeply, powerfully, and with so much compassion.    Did you know that 99% of women judge their bodies at least 9 times a day—every single day?  The pressure to look a certain way is relentless, and the diet industry only fuels the cycle of shame, self-criticism, and disconnection from our true selves. Instead of bringing us closer to health and happiness, it keeps us stuck in a loop of never feeling enough.   But what if there was another way? A way to **listen to your body, honor it, and build a relationship based on trust and kindness rather than control and punishment**?   That's exactly what we're diving into with my special guest, Nina Manolson, MA, Body-Peace® Coach. Nina is a master at helping women shift from body struggle to body peace, guiding them to reconnect with their bodies in a way that feels nourishing, empowering, and deeply loving.   In this episode, we explore:   How to break free from the cycle of body shame and self-judgment   Why traditional dieting keeps you disconnected from your body's wisdom How to create a personal “map” back to body trust and self-compassion  Practical steps to treat yourself with the love and care you deserve   If you've ever looked in the mirror and wished you could feel *at home* in your body instead of at war with it, this episode is for you. It's time to reclaim your relationship with yourself and Come Back to Love®—body, mind, and soul.  Bio: Nina Manolson, MA, is the founder of Body-Peace® and a Body-Peace® coach, dedicated to helping women end the war with food and body so they can feel truly at home in their bodies. She has been working with women for more than 30 years, combining her expertise as a therapist, Body-Trust® guide, and Psychology of Eating teacher. Nina's work integrates compassionate coaching, body-centered practices, and deep inquiry into societal and personal narratives to help women build sustainable, nourishing, and respectful relationships with their bodies. She is also the co-host of the podcast HERstory on a Plate, which celebrates the intersection of food, culture, and women's stories. In addition to one-on-one and group coaching, Nina offers workshops, courses, and retreats designed to create lasting transformation. She is the creator of the Body-Peace® app and the author of poetry that inspires women to reconnect with themselves. Nina holds a master's degree in counseling psychology and is passionate about creating spaces where women feel seen, supported, and celebrated.  https://ninamanolson.com/ FREE GIFT: I have two free offers:  Body-Peace® Journal: https://ninamanolson.com/practicingbodypeace/ Body-Peace®  Masterclass: https://ninamanolson.com/free-body-peace-masterclass/   Learn more about Robyn here: https://www.comebacktolove.com

In this episode of Gynocurious, Dr. Amy Novatt engages in an enlightening dialogue with Nina Manolson, M.A., a renowned coach and founder of Body-Peace. The discussion delves into the pervasive issue of body shaming and the constant critical inner voice that many individuals, particularly women, face regarding their bodies. Amy and Nina examine various approaches to fostering a healthier, more accepting, and peaceful relationship with one's body. Nina shares her personal journey from experiencing "body war" to cultivating Body Peace, emphasizing the importance of shifting towards self-compassion and integrity. Throughout the episode, the conversation explores the societal paradox wherein women's bodies are both revered and shamed, tracing this inconsistency to deep-rooted issues like misogyny, racism, and the commercialization of body image. Manolson highlights the detrimental effects of these cultural pressures and discusses how they foster a disrupted relationship with our bodies. The dialogue transitions to practical tips on how listeners can begin to cultivate a more harmonious relationship with their bodies, starting with simple yet profound steps like acknowledging and greeting their bodies with kindness. In this episode of She's Not Done Yet: Conversations with women over 50, I chat with Nina Manolson, creator of Body Peace®. Nina's publicist reached out to me and I was drawn immediately to the feminist ideas represented in her approach. I was particularly excited to speak with Nina because I've always struggled with my appearance, weight, and all the things women agonize over about themselves.  Nina helps people end the war with food and body and finally feel truly at home in their body—as it is. She is known for her deeply feminist, anti-diet, body-peace approach. She brings her 30 years experience as a therapist, Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, Body-Trust® Guide, and Psychology of Eating Teacher to helping women create a respectful and trusting relationship with their food and body. Her courses, coaching, and poetry positively change the conversation that women are having with their body. She also writes Body-Poems as a way to encourage a shift in the way women talk to, and about their bodies. We start with Nina reading one of her Body-Poems, She Let Herself Go (5:25). Nina started writing Body Peace® Poems because the culture is defining the conversation we women have with our bodies. Her poems reclaim our body's voices and change the conversation.  I love it when she talks about being in a practice of being at peace with our bodies. She also touches on the way we women are trained to center ourselves on others' opinions. I also share my body mantra with Nina: "Every day I treat my body a little better. I exercise a little more and I eat a little better." Nina also has a Body Peace® app, available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. “A culture fixated on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty, but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women's history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one.”― Naomi Wolf. No wonder women are in a constant argument with our bodies. No wonder we are disconnected from our bodies--and we see them as "other." And yet, the relationship with our bodies is the most important relationship we have. Nina Manolson brings so much love, compassion, wisdom, and soul to the conversation we are having with and around our bodies. What becomes possible when we feel Body Peace? What become possible when we set ourselves free from the chains of patriarchal beauty norms? If you're like me, it is actually hard to imagine. But for certain this conversation is crucial to our wellbeing. I cannot wait to hear what you think of this profound episode. While body image can be a concern for both men and women, it has been a significant issue, particularly for women, due to societal pressures and cultural expectations surrounding beauty and appearance.Women's body image has been heavily influenced by media, advertising, and social norms, which often promote unrealistic and idealized standards of beauty. These standards typically emphasize thinness, youthfulness, and specific body proportions that can be unattainable for many women. As a result, many women may experience body dissatisfaction and engage in behaviors such as dieting, extreme exercising, or even developing eating disorders to try to achieve these ideals.Today's conversation is with Nina Manolson who a Body-Peace® coach. You may be thinking that poetry isn't exactly marketing. But it was Nina Manolson's Body Peace poems that captured the raw, vulnerable inner process of a woman's relationship with her body. They have resonated with so many women because they speak the truth about our relationships with our bodies.  Put yourself out there like Nina did and share your inner process with the world. You'll be amazed at the response and community these poems can create. And who knows, it is the marketing strategy that sets you apart in a sea of sameness. Tune in to the ᴄᴏɴꜱᴄɪᴏᴜꜱ ᴍᴀʀᴋᴇᴛᴇʀ podcast —Body Peace and Reclaiming Your Identity with Nina Manolson ▶️ Key points covered in this episode:  [01:14] Meet Nina Manolson, who was always on the lookout for the next diet, the next fitness regime, and how to change the body to fit into that teeny tiny box that our world says is beautiful. She has seen the beauty and liberation of a life that's the opposite of warring with our weight and self-worth.  [05:40] We don't just need body love, but body-peace. Nina explains that it's not always lovey-dovey for what makes a real relationship with our bodies but one that's based on a foundation of peace and mutual respect.  [09:21] When people are at war with their bodies, they struggle with unwanted eating, binge eating, secret eating, compulsive eating, nighttime eating, restricted eating, all the disordered eating that really get in our way and spends so much time and valuable real estate in our brains.  [17:30] Unwanted inner criticism and eating behavior are windows and doorways into other parts of our life and healing that we need to do for ourselves. Nina says, "If we can look at those instead of trying to hide them and push them back under the rug, trying to fix the body as broken, going into the next diet/regimen/quick fix - we have to look underneath that for transformation to happen." [22:14] Hiding and marketing don't go together.  Women entrepreneurs who are not at peace with their bodies tend to play small in business. They hide from their bigger purpose, creating the impact and effect they could have in the world.  [25:26] We are desperate for someone who's just being themselves – raw, unfiltered, and real in the public sphere of marketing.  Nina created successful breakthroughs when she chose to be vulnerable with the written word. Her poems brought her closer to the people she was meant to serve. --------------- Nina Manolson helps women over 40 end their war with food and make peace with their body. If you're a woman in midlife, you've probably Googled "How to lose weight in your 40s." And you've probably heard hundreds of ways to "lose the meno-belly." Seeing your body change after 40 is disruptive to your body image. It's distressing - especially when your typical dieting tricks don't work like they used to. Which means, it's time to try different instead of harder. What if you shift your focus from what the scale says to how you see your body? If you learn how to improve your body image after 40 you set yourself up for decades of food peace rather than continuous weight cycling.  My guest in this episode is very familiar with the diet cycle of losing and gaining weight. After the birth of her son, she decided enough was enough. She didn't want to pass on negative body image and harmful beliefs about food to her son.  It was time to do something different instead of harder. Listen as pro-age body acceptance coach Michelle Viña-Baltsas talks about her journey with body image and how it's changed in midlife.  Michelle explains how she defines a healthy body image, and why a negative body image is common for women in menopause.    We answer the frequently asked question, "Can someone have a healthy body image and want to look more fit?"   Finally, Michelle shares how she helps women in midlife to make peace with their bodies while supporting their health goals.    Michelle Viña-Baltsas is a pro-age body acceptance coach and certified intuitive eating counselor. Are you sick of the word self-care? For me, it got really overused, and it became one more thing to do right! I was definitely sold on the idea that self-care is getting a pedicure, a regular massage, or going to yoga class— these are pretty big things! Problem is that they made me think of self-care as something “extra,” as a luxury. I would like to offer that self-care is necessary. On this episode, I go into 3 different self-care concepts and ways to integrate them.Awareness of what we needFood as self-carePlanning as self-careNoticing—and giving yourself—what you need is an act of self-care. Any act of caring for ourselves is self-care. Taking care of basic needs — nourishing food, water, moving our body, sleep — is self care.I believe we can all find simple acts of self-care we can do every day. I also believe in setting aside regular time for “bigger” self care. Maybe that yoga class, but maybe something else.Let's look at some of the super basic self-care acts that we can work into our lives regularly no matter what hats you're wearing.Do you need to get outside for some fresh air? Do you need 10 minutes of quiet with nobody bothering you? Do you need to eat? It's easy to brush that off because you're too busy or you just need to finish one more thing. But you can stop and give yourself what you need.Getting in the practice of just listening to what you need, I believe is where most of us need to start — given the conditioning I think most women got.And then we can expand that view, and let what is basic grow and evolve. I promise it does.On this episode I talk about 10-10-10, a tool originally taught to me by Nina Manolson. I highly recommend! Here are some self-care moves you can use. Most of them cost nothing and can fit into little pockets of your day:Take a shower or bathPlan your mealsGet dressedTalk a walkPause to check in with what your body needs in stressful momentsAsk for helpReceive the help (asking and receiving, two separate things)Go to bed on timeMake sure that the food you're eating is really serving your bodyExerciseRead a bookPut your feet up for five minutesTake three deep breaths throughout the dayDrink eight glasses of water dailyWrite in your journal for 15 minutesDo three minutes of breathworkGet outside and feel the sun on your faceTurn on your favorite song and danceWrite down 3 things you are grateful for at the beginning or end of each dayPlan for a more in depth self care session (a massage, a day hike, lunch with a friend, a leisurely visit to a museum or botanic garden or bookstore, a morning alone at a cafe … what really restores you?)Eating well and how you prepare food can be self-car — or not.Nourishing yourself is self-care.We show up better for ourselves, for our families, and for our businesses when we are nourished. So stop skipping meals or living on caffeine and cookies. If nourishing yourself feels hard, look at what you can do to make it easier:Know what is for dinner—this saves you time and energy throughout the day. Move dinner forward during the day (prepping veggies while you make your morning smoothie or putting something in your slow cooker or stopping at the market while you run other errands). Plan a day to batch prep/cook.Planning and intention setting are self-care.Planning means you are putting your dreams, goals, and needs into time. You are being intentional about how you spend your time and energy.Planning means you are paying attention to your needs when the smart part of your brain is activated.This...

Many people, especially women, are constantly striving to change their bodies, seeing their bodies as ongoing projects. It is fine to have body goals like losing weight or gaining muscle, but the problem comes when we impose restrictive diets and unpleasant exercises on our bodies. These are aggressive methods that cannot be sustained. According to Nina Manolson, our podcast guest for today, this type of behavior is antagonistic to the body. Nina developed an antagonistic relationship with her body at the age of nine, and once she healed that relationship, she made it her life's work to help women develop trusting and respectful relationships with their bodies. Nina's work is called Body-Peace because she helps her clients gain peace with their bodies. Nina focuses on helping people cultivate supportive relationships with their bodies through compassion. Nina suggests that whenever you feel broken or as though your body is causing you problems, take a step back and realize that the problem isn't you or your body but rather the relationship you have with it. The negative self-talk and restrictions many women subject themselves to in an effort to achieve the body they think they need are often what keep them on a diet roller coaster. In this episode, we discuss how to shift your mindset about your body to be in support of it instead of against it, how to begin making sustainable changes that will help you feel at peace with your body and your food, and how to dig deeper to understand why you may want to change your body in the first place. Nina will even share some of her poems about body peace. Key Highlights: The relationship we have with our bodies should be allied rather than antagonistic Being at war with one's body is a symptom of not feeling like enough Nina shares some of her poems about body peace Nina's advice for anyone struggling with body shame or having difficulty living in their body Dissatisfaction with your body is not a weight issue, it's a relationship issue Prioritizing pleasure in movement: Start with what you love Losing weight while being in an allied relationship with your body Wearing clothes that make you feel bad fosters an aggressive relationship with your body It is okay to grieve as we age and change Health markers to pay attention to that are more scientific than the number on the scale Episode resources: Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset -Use code AMBER for 15% off: kromawellness.com Amber's free intermittent fasting guide: ambershaw.com/fasting   Connect with Nina Manolson: Website: ninamanolson.com Facebook: facebook.com/NinaManolsonBodyPeace Instagram: @ninamanolson YouTube: Nina Manolson Free Nourished Woman Nation group Body-Poems Free Resources: ninamanolson.com/freebies Body-Peace Seekers: ninamanolson.com/bodypeaceseekers   Connect with Amber Instagram: @msambershaw TikTok: @msambershaw Website: ambershaw.com

The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. Today we are joined by Body-Peace® coach, Nina Manolson to discuss body peace. Nina talks about creating a relationship with our bodies and learning to be at peace with our current bodies. She discusses how we learn to tune in to our body's language and how to create new neuropathways to have a more empowering relationship and dialogue with ourselves. Nina talks about the disconnect we experience when we beat ourselves up and how to rekindle that relationship. Join us today to learn more about creating body peace, approach ourselves with kindness, and appreciate our present place.IN THIS EPISODE: ●   [6:15] Nina discusses her past and what led her to this career.●   [11:34] What does body peace mean, and what does it look like? ●   [14:30] Nina shares her poem Am I bigger than her?●   [15:57] Why do we beat ourselves up, and how can we move on from that mindset? ●   [22:28] What is the first step to building a relationship with our body?●   [29:22] How do we learn our body's language? ●   [37:13] How do we go through the class of learning to dialogue with our body? ●   [39:28] What are neuropathways, and how do they work? ●   [41:36] Nina talks to us about finding a term of endearment to use in conversation with the body.●   [43:30] How can we think about body peace through aging?KEY TAKEAWAYS:●   Body peace is the relationship with our body. It means being happy in your current body, not wanting to change everything. How much of your life are you wasting your body when you could use that energy to do so many more amazing things?●   You can choose to be at war with your body or in a relationship with your body. You must become one with your body. This is the longest relationship in your life; if you are disconnected, your body shuts down. When we feel relaxed in our bodies, we feel good.●   Pause to actually listen to what your body is saying. You will get these answers by listening to your body's sensations, such as aching knees, exhaustion, feeling vibrant, etc. Get curious about when and why those sensations appear in order to understand what your body is trying to tell you. ●   Our bodies will change throughout our lives. Learning to be body-current can help you through aging. Have the mindset that ‘this is my current body', and ask how you can support, engage, and nurture your current body?QUOTES: “When we're always criticizing our bodies, always like, oh, we didn't do it right, that's a foundation of insecurity and instability.” - Nina Manolson“When we approach ourselves with kindness, with care, with this kind of slowed down style instead of this hustle hustle hustle, go go go style, then that door opens to what is the issue underneath that really needs to be addressed and healed? What's going on? Am I afraid that I won't be loved, am I afraid that I'm not acceptable, am I afraid that I don't have enough social currency as the woman in the size 00, right? So what's going on here? And so, self-compassion is way more powerful now; self-love, self-compassion, and kindness is not the same as giving up on ourselves. It's actually being deeply connected to ourselves, deeply respectful to ourselves, and deeply on our own side.” - Nina Manolson“When we're more expressive, we are doing our actual work in the world. What we're meant to do here. When we're obsessed with our body, with our food, all of our energy is going to this tiny little loop of dieting, and we're pulling away our energy from a world that desperately needs us, we're leaking our power.” - Nina ManolsonRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramJenn's Black Cohosh Product for US Listeners: https://bit.ly/jennblackcohoshUSJenn's Black Cohosh Product for Global Listeners: https://bit.ly/jennblackcohoshglobalGUEST RESOURCES:Nina Manolson's WebsiteFREE Practicing Body-Peace JournalNina Manolson's FBNina Manolson's IGNina Manolson's YouTubeFree Nourished Woman Nation Facebook GroupBody-PoemsGUEST BIO:Nina Manolson is a Body-Peace® coach.
