In this episode of After the Affair, host Luke Shillings takes a deep dive into the societal expectations surrounding infidelity and why many of them are not just wrong but harmful. He lists the top 34 most common Societal Expectation Statements and challenges each and every one! We often think of infidelity in black-and-white terms, assigning blame and passing judgement based on outdated norms and rigid stereotypes. But infidelity is far more complex than society tends to acknowledge. Luke unpacks the dangers of oversimplifying infidelity, the damaging effects of punitive mindsets, and why rigid gender norms don't hold up in the real world. Through honest reflection, this episode challenges the idea that infidelity always has to end a relationship, and instead offers a more nuanced understanding of what it means to heal, rebuild, or move on. Whether you've been betrayed or were the one who was unfaithful, this episode will make you rethink what society says about infidelity and how it can impact your recovery. Key Topics Discussed: Why Black-and-White Thinking Is Harmful: Infidelity is often judged as entirely the fault of the unfaithful partner, ignoring relational dynamics and the complexity of the emotions involved. Gender Norms and Why They Don't Work: The stereotype that men cheat for sex and women cheat for emotional reasons misses the broader picture of human behaviour. The Punishment Trap: How shame, public humiliation, and the pressure to leave the relationship can hinder healing and growth, both for the betrayed and the unfaithful. Why Infidelity Doesn't Have to Mean the End: Exploring the idea that, with the right support, some couples can rebuild trust and come out stronger on the other side. The Overlooked Forms of Infidelity: Emotional and digital infidelity often get ignored in societal discussions, but they can be just as damaging as physical cheating. Judgement vs. Understanding: Why casting judgement on the unfaithful partner doesn't allow for personal growth or relationship repair, and how a restorative approach can offer more. Reflective Question: How have societal expectations shaped your response to infidelity? Have these expectations helped or hindered your healing process? If you're a mom, you understand down to your bones that you want the best for your kids. You don't want them to face the same struggles you did. I had that realization when my daughter was still a baby. I was having the worst time with my weight and body image. It was a daily grind. And I did NOT want that for her. Sure, I could have faked it. I could have told myself I wouldn't let my problems affect her. But she was watching me even as a baby, and as she grew, I knew she would figure it out.She would see me try on 18 outfits and be miserable. She would see me swat my husband away when he grabbed my waist in the kitchen. She would see my disgusted expression when I looked in the mirror. And she would think all these things were normal and how SHE should feel about HERSELF.I couldn't let that happen. So I went on a mission to solve this. I became a certified coach, leaned on my past mindfulness training as a yoga teacher, and I believe I've cracked the code. Karen's unique approach, blending compassion with capitalism, is not just inspiring; it's a call to action for potential investors sitting on the sidelines, uncertain of their next move in the investment world.Karen shared a profound perspective, emphasizing that investing in entrepreneurs should not be the exclusive domain of the affluent. She passionately argued against the long-standing myth that ordinary folks aren't savvy enough for angel investing. "The laws prior to the JOBS Act contributed to this lack of awareness and even a negative connotation for investing in entrepreneurs," Karen explained, shedding light on a systemic issue that has kept many potential investors in the dark. What struck me most was Karen's unwavering belief in the potential of the everyday individual to make informed, impactful investment choices. "The main thing that I tell [new investors] is to identify what they know... invest in the things you know and you're passionate about," she advised. This simple yet powerful guidance serves as a beacon for those intimidated by the complexities of the investment landscape.Karen's work, from her enlightening books to her digital courses, is a testament to her dedication to democratizing investment knowledge. She's not just teaching people how to invest; she's empowering them to contribute to the businesses they believe in, fostering a community of informed, compassionate investors.Reflecting on Karen's words, it's clear that angel investing is not just about financial returns; it's about being part of a larger narrative of growth, innovation, and social impact. As we wrapped up our conversation, I couldn't help but feel inspired by the idea that each one of us has the potential to not just witness change but to actively participate in it through thoughtful, informed investing. As we move forward, let's carry Karen's message with us: invest with purpose, passion, and a belief in the power of the collective. Together, we can shift the paradigm of investment and open doors for a new generation of investors ready to make their mark on the world. As the conversation transitioned to Karen's upcoming participation next week in SuperCrowd24, her excitement was palpable. "Oh well, that's an easy one to answer," she began, her enthusiasm infectious as she recounted the value of community and shared experiences in the realm of investing and entrepreneurship. Karen reminisced about her previous involvement in SuperCrowd22, where the power of connection and learning from diverse journeys left a lasting impression on her. "It was so powerful," she recalled, emphasizing how such events foster a unique space for engagement, knowledge exchange, and the building of meaningful relationships.Karen's eagerness for SuperCrowd24 was evident as she spoke about the anticipation of being part of an event that not only brings together like-minded individuals but also aligns with her core mission of compassionate capitalism. "You can't create a community if you don't have events where people can come together and get to know each other," she noted, highlighting the importance of these gatherings in nurturing a supportive ecosystem for investors and entrepreneurs alike. Her commitment to SuperCrowd24, despite previous scheduling conflicts, underscores her belief in the event's ability to inspire and educate. Karen sees SuperCrowd24 as a platform that perfectly embodies the principles of investing with "passion, purpose, and profit." This trio of values resonates deeply with her philosophy that investment should transcend mere financial gain to encompass a broader impact on society and the individuals behind the ventures. In essence, Karen's enthusiasm for SuperCrowd24 is not just about the event itself but what it represents—a convergence of visionaries dedicated to reshaping the investment landscape through empowerment, education, and community building. Her anticipation for the event is a testament to her belief in the transformative power of collective wisdom and the shared pursuit of meaningful, impactful investment opportunities.AI Episode Summary1. This unique ability allows her to bridge the often wide chasm between entrepreneurs and potential investors, making her an invaluable asset in the world of startup financing.Karen's superpower lies in her exceptional ability to craft compelling WIC statements, which distill complex business propositions into clear, investor-centric narratives. By focusing on a solution's core benefits rather than just its features, she helps entrepreneurs align their pitches with what truly resonates with investors: the problem being solved, its significance, and the potential for financial return. This approach not only clarifies the value proposition but also directly addresses the investor's primary concern: "How will this investment benefit me?"An illustrative story that exemplifies Karen's superpower involves a company that developed a sophisticated surge protector capable of anticipating lightning strikes. Initially, the company struggled with its pitch, targeting electric companies rather than the actual stakeholders affected by the problem – business owners. Karen recounted how, after years of circling in her "ether sphere," the company finally pivoted its approach. They formed a joint venture with a surge protector manufacturer, refining their product to alert business owners directly of imminent lightning strikes. This strategic shift, aligning with what Karen had advocated, ultimately led to the company's success. To develop a similar ability to Karen's WIC superpower, one should focus on truly understanding the investor's perspective, identifying the core problem your solution addresses, and clearly articulating the financial upside. Engaging directly with potential customers to validate the problem and solution fit is crucial, as is a willingness to pivot based on feedback to ensure your offering meets a genuine market need.By following Karen's example and advice, you can make understanding "Why an Investor Cares" a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world, transforming innovative ideas into successful ventures through effective storytelling and strategic alignment with investor interests.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. In this episode, we cover:The diagnosis process can be fraught. Dr. Richey says that you do NOT need a diagnosis to start giving yourself love and compassion. You don't need a label to understand yourself. The DSM is very limited, and is inadequate when it comes to diagnosing women and girls as well as the BIPOC community. Dr. Richey breaks down the difference between screening and testing, and outlines the different types of practitioners who provide diagnosis. Understanding WHY you are seeking a diagnosis is an important part of choosing the correct path for you. We learn the term "Good girl zone" and how it starts with little girls who can't pay attention in class but pretend they are so they don't get in trouble. "You are neurodivergent, and that's okay. You don't have to do that." Dr. Richey gives us the permission to function differently that we didn't get in childhood. In fact, not only can we be okay, we can be better than ok. Dr. Richey tells us how to prepare for an ADHD evaluation in terms of what to do ahead of time, what to bring, and what to expect. In part one of our incredible conversation with Dr. Rebecca Richey, Psy.D, MBA, LC, SW, MS, CP, CAC-III, who serves as the clinical director for Colorado Women's Collaborative Healthcare, we discuss the complicated process of getting an ADHD diagnosis. She covers the different types of practitioners available, the different options for evaluation, and the obstacles to getting diagnosed, including flaws in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) that make women and the BIPOC community more likely to fall through the cracks. She sheds light on what happens when girls are not properly diagnosed with ADHD. Doing a self-eval and talking to a professional for a while is a screener or an enhanced screener.Testing/psychological assessment—more in-depth and uses objective measures (vs. subjective). Objective measures being cognitive testing, continuous performance testing, memory testing, executive functioning, collaborative info.Whether you get a screener or an assessment depends on what you want...If you think you have ADHD and want to try medication, a screening with a PCP or psychiatrist is in line. If you want treatment that doesn't involve medication, a screening with a master's level clinician is great.MOTHER PLUS INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mother_plus_podcast/MOTHER PLUS FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/motherpluspodcastMOTHER PLUS PERMISSION SLIP: https://www.motherplusser.com/Permission-SlipMOTHER PLUS NEWSLETTER: https://www.motherplusser.com/signup-pageMOTHER PLUS BLOG: https://www.motherplusser.com/blog
I cannot tell you how relieved I am to find and present my guest today… I consider his service the umbilical cord to the Michigan Medical Cannabis system. Plants Over Pillz (with a Z) is a CareGiver Delivery service in my own neck of the woods up here in McComb County. I've been trying to visit the dispensaries for medicinal products but have been so frustrated with the lack of information and knowledge… Every single time I come home stressed and frustrated and without the product I need. They don't even sell TINCTURES in the “dispos” up here… they're not profitable enough!! Well of course not if you don't teach people why they should try them and how to use tinctures properly…. That's my other gripe… there's absolutely NO education up here about Cannabis. They just sell the smell of the high. Well PlantsOverPillz understands the medicinal value in cannabis and provides an alternative to the woes of public shopping… especially for those who consider themselves patients and really want a healing experience… not just a high… and maybe never a high… whatever your needs, PlantsOverPillz (with a Z) can accommodate. I want you to hear his back story and understand that this is an important piece of vetting a new company. Understanding “Why” they're in business tells you a lot. I hope these caregivers will be able to sustain the medicinal side of Michigan cannabis… these are producer/farmers who grow specifically for your needs. Can you imagine a pharmacy doing that? Now let's go find out more about this process… right after the intro… PlantsOverPillz, com. This episode is a shout-out to all my fellow analytical, detail-oriented, problem-solving, Type A, perfectionistic code-crackers.I know you're out there! If you find yourself meticulously scrutinizing every detail of your life looking for clues as to why you have insomnia, this one's for you.We deep dive into a common behavior I call ‘pattern-seeking.' This natural facet of our safety system helps us survive in the world, but in the case of insomnia, often turns into patternicity.Patternicity looks for patterns that don't necessarily exist and makes predictions based off those perceived patterns.Tune in to hear more about:How pattern-seeking takes shape during insomniaWhat's really driving itThe MOST crucial pattern of allTowards the end of the podcast, I share three key insights about pattern-seeking:Education and awareness: Understanding WHY your brain engages in certain behaviors empowers you.Examining the driver: Look beyond the behavior at the motivations driving it, so you can recognize if it's rooted in trust or fear. The only code to crack: Trying to fix something that isn't fundamentally broken only confuses the unconscious mind (where sleep lives).By changing how you respond to insomnia, you can initiate a shift in how insomnia responds to you.Subscribe to The Mind. With a private practice in Redding, Ct. providing individual, family, and marital therapy, Leslie has ongoing parenting groups and regularly conducts workshops and lectures in the community. She is intensively trained in Dialectic Behavior Therapy and now leads several DBT skills groups for adults, teenagers and their families. This work focuses on developing skills that increase our competency to be our best selves. Leslie has been married for 37 years and has 3 children: a 33-year-old son and 30-year-old twin girls. She is thrilled to have a daughter-in-law and two young grandchildren as well. Leslie is passionately committed to helping people develop a new perspective and new skills to enhance their emotional well-being and mental health. Listen to this episode of Whinypaluza, with Leslie Cohen-Rubury about how to better understand why our kids behave the way they do, and how you can better communicate with them based upon that understanding. Here is what to expect on this week's show: Leslie's training allows her to approach a problem with a broad perspective. Through many sessions with parents, a common question Leslie got was, “Is my child a monster?” The answer is “no!” Understanding WHY our kids misbehave or struggle will remove this question. Jumping to conclusions never goes well. How we can work on understanding where our kid is coming from and why they behave the way they do. What is a Paradoxical Question and how does it help? What can we do to better understand why our children are behaving the way they do? What questions can we ask them? Accepting your child where they are and working toward growth helps avoid your child feeling like they are broken. Learning to better understand and communicate with your kids is an ongoing process that will never stop. Practice being comfortable in uncomfortable situations- what does it mean? How does this help our children become better problem-solvers? What kinds of strategies and coping skills can you teach your kid when they are experiencing something uncomfortable? Balancing teaching your kid to cope and teaching your kid to ask for help- how do you do it? Sometimes there is no right answer! What is Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)? What are some of the keys to Leslie's 37-year-old marriage? The importance if validating your partner or your child. Are your joints painful? Do you suffer from daily discomfort? As it stands today, chronic pain affects more Americans than DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, and CANCER combined. In fact, chronic pain is THE NUMBER ONE reason Americans access the Healthcare system today. However, many people believe their only option for pain relief is found in drugstore options such as Ibuprofen, Advil, and Tylenol (to name a few). As a Christian, it can be confusing to hear all of the evolutionary explanations of why our bodies are dysregulted or how to reverse chronic pain through using the vagus nerve, meditation, breathing, etc.I have had quite a few emails asking me to unpack my beliefs on this. So here it is. In this video, I keep it simple. I believe God created us with a Vagus nerve, Emotions, AND the ability to think Logically. They are all a gift from God and IT is good to use them as tools to heal. Understanding WHY the vagus nerve is helpful to be a great tool in healing. I used cold water, deep breathing, humming, singing and more in my own healing process. It is important that you honor your own conscience with these tools. I also talk about the ACE's study and how Adverse Childhood Experiences can be what causes dysregulation, hypervigilance and chronic pain in the first place. I discuss the term “Trauma” and how it can often be mistaken as a diagnosis that is unhealable. This is not true, nor biblical! I hope you enjoy! If you are looking to reverse your chronic pain or symptoms, reach out for a free consult. Thriving Adoptees - Inspiration For Adoptive Parents & Adoptees
Understanding WHY we do the things we don't want to do often initiates stopping doing them. So please stick with my lengthy set up this episode - it's well worth it. Lynn and I explore adoptees' concern for other people's thoughts about us including why it triggers are own insecurities. What's wrong with me is perhaps the most common questions we ask ourselves. Listen in for some more empowering questions in this profound episode. Here's the link to the book I mention in the podcast https://www.amazon.com/Missing-Link-Sydney-Banks-ebook/dp/B07FN6CYPBLynn Deiulis was placed on adoption at the age of nine months. Her adoptive parents were advised to raise her as their own and forget where she had come from. Her parents followed this advice, and adoption became an uncomfortable topic. Her mother would answer Lynn's adoption questions, but the emotion in her mother's eyes eventually made Lynn stop asking. Lynn grew up not knowing how or whom to ask her many questions. As an adult, Lynn found and met some of her paternal and maternal birth family members and was able to learn much about the genetic and familial information she grew up without. As a result, she has been able to piece together more of her story.Lynn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care and enjoyed a twenty-five year career in adoption services. Lynn has worked with many members of the adoption triad (children, birth parents, adoptive parents) as well as foster care and kinship families. She co-facilitated support groups where adult adopted persons, and birth parents, could freely share their unique stories and learn how and where to get some of their questions answered. Her personal and professional journey sparked a passion to write a book that offers an opportunity for children to learn the unique details of their adoption or kinship stories, and helps adults talk to children about how they came to be living together as a family or living with another family. She also hopes the book will help professionals who work with children living through all phases of the adoption or kinship journey. Lynn resides in Northern Ontario, where she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, especially her grandchildren. The relationship between the author and the illustrator has a unique quality. Krista Donnelly and Lynn are birth half sisters who met each other as adults in 2018. Separated by the adoption process, Krista and her three full sisters grew up not knowing that two older half sisters existed. When Lynn decided to write this book, she reached out to her “new sister” who is a talented graphic designer. Krista brought the book's characters to life while building a relationship with Lynn at the same time. Krista learned about the impact on Lynn of growing up as an adoptee, while Lynn learned about the impact on Krista of discovering she had two birth half sisters she never knew existed! Their new mutual understanding of the impact of adoption has enriched this book. Lynn and Krista hope this book will help children and families talk about these unique stories long before the children become adults.Links to buy the book and more: https://www.whatisyourstorybook.com/https://www.facebook.com/whatisyourstorybookhttps://twitter.com/AuthorLynnDhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCampCrQmQomhUskZ8-9fzcg/featuredhttps://www.instagram.com/authorlynnd/

Do you struggle with the new normal that the pandemic has brought — constant Zoom calls, online webinars, and limited face-to-face interaction? The big changes brought about by the pandemic altered how we function day-to-day. And many of these add stress to our life. So how do we adapt to these sudden big changes and face the new normal? Dr. Amy Mednick is a psychiatrist working in her own private practice. She received her medical degree with Distinction in Research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Brain & Cognitive Sciences from MIT. She specializes in the overlap between the humanities and neuroscience and leads a lecture series for psychiatric residents in training, social workers, and psychology trainees. She's been involved in both brain research and linguistic research and has authored articles in Clinical Psychiatry News. Her new book is Humanizing the Remote Experience through Leadership and Coaching: Strategies for Better Virtual Connections. In this episode, Amy dives a little bit deeper and explains the unconscious cognitive change the pandemic has brought in our day-to-day functioning and interaction whether in the workplace or in life. What you will learn from this episode: Uncover why you feel more tired and exhausted with the sudden shift to the online world Explore different ways to overcome mental fatigue in the new normal Learn the three warning signs you need to watch for and the action you then need to take “Do things that someone running from a tiger wouldn't do.” -Dr. Amy Mednick Valuable Free Resource: How to humanize the new normal and make better virtual connections through promising strategies: Humanizing the Remote Experience through Leadership and Coaching: Strategies for Better Virtual Connection Topics Covered: 01:55 - How the Pandemic Started It All: Dr. Amy shares why she and Dr. Leonard decided to write the book 04:05 - Boundaries Between Anything: What made the pandemic hard for most people? 05:25 - The Warning Trio: Dr. Amy talks about the warning signs that our needs are not getting met 06:44 - Need for Safety: Why is it so hard for you to focus especially when everything's transitioning virtual? 08:45 - Need for Understanding: Why do you end up more exhausted from WFH rather than F2F 09:49 - Need for Belonging: How can exclusion and isolation actually hurt us physically? 12:18 - Dr. Amy explains how the feeling of exclusion manifests in us 19:55 - How to Simplify the Complex: Dr. Amy shares how women leaders can address the complexity the pandemic brought in the workplace 22:29 - What can you do to help your team recharge, especially during the pandemic? 24:31 - Sending Virtual Hugs: Dr. Amy shares how can you create a sense of safety and belongingness within your workplace 25:18 - Does the remote work setting still overlooks women and their capabilities? 26:16 - Disconnecting Online, Connecting Offline: What can you do to avoid misunderstandings and disconnections in remote settings 29:55 - Take Care of Yourself First: Dr. Amy talks about the importance of self-care in lowering your team's stress levels over Zoom and the new normal 36:10 - Dr. Amy shares why psychological safety is so important Key Takeaways: “We get used to anything. As humans, we adjust to anything. So, I think now it's a way of life. And it's getting easier.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “It's a lot of work to make sense of things. So, if you're exhausted at the end of a workday, it could be a warning sign that your brain is working excessively hard just to make sense of what is going on with others around you and that maybe there's an adjustment that you could make there.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “Mental fatigue, mental work, brain work affects your physical strength.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “Your brain does not like discrepancy. It does not like things it can't explain. So, when something doesn't match what it expected, like a laugh at a joke, it's going to work really hard to try to fix that.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “Anything extraneous that you can take away the overload is going to be really helpful.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “The remote experience is ambiguous enough. Do not add any ambiguity, make things extra, extra clear, extra explicit. Make goals explicit. Make the goals of meetings and the structure very explicit.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “Even though you're leading a team, you need to be okay. You need to be in a good place. You need to have safety and comfort. You need to be grounded so that you can connect.” -Dr. Amy Mednick “You're going to be happier and more productive if you're giving your brain a chance to stop.” -Dr. Amy Mednick Ways to Connect with Dr. Amy Mednick: Website: https://www.dramymednick.com/ Book: Humanizing the Remote Experience through Leadership and Coaching: Strategies for Better Virtual Connections Ways to Connect with Sarah E. “How can I make my actions more congruent with pure service?” As the desecration of Mother Earth continues, what can well-intentioned men do? Why is humanity at large acting this way? Understanding WHY is huge, as it stems from our relationship with and balance of masculine and feminine energies. We address these questions in this heavy hitting conversation with Chief Phillip Scott, who leads pilgrimages, conducts ceremonies, teaches healing courses, and runs a private healing practice. His Indigenous perspective offers hope and understanding in these overwhelming times. We also cover why the colonial model is failing humanity, how sacraments differ from psychedelics, and why Tortoise medicine is needed even in these urgent times. Highlights: [04:29] Is the Earth suffering from inflammation? What's the greater spiritual significance of this? [08:48] What are the impacts from these recent overwhelming world events? [12:49] Are we living in an outdated model of colonialism? [20:48] Why traditional rites of passage ceremonies are service-oriented. [25:15] The difference between psychedelics and sacraments. [31:59] Why Turtle medicine is a major teacher when it comes to learning the ancient indigenous medicine ways. [34:55] “Cultivate patience before you come a patient” - Chief Phillip Scott [38:20] How to act urgently without losing our senses. [43:11] Why showing up with humility, reverence, and respect opens the way for higher teachings to show up. [46:20] How convenience is killing us and the planet. Parents often ask if they should let their kids quit sports, clubs, lessons, etc. We fear that if we let them quit they'll be quitters forever and never learn to work hard. In this episode, Leah and Beka talk through their thoughts on this and ways to teach these skills. All skills are taught:Gradually over timeThrough Multiple repetitionsWith Several different inputsIt's important, as always to chase the why when your kids' behavior changes. Understanding WHY your kid wants to quit something, and forcing them to continue doing it anyway sends the message their reason doesn't matter. We often worry that by letting our kids quit, they'll never learn how to be uncomfortable, push through hard things, fulfill their commitments, or be determined. There are ways to teach our kids determination and commitment without forcing them to keep going when they want to quit. We want them to listen to their bodies and honor how they're feeling. There will be time to teach them skills as they age.Subscribe, rate, and review us on Podchaser, Apple, or wherever you listen to podcasts! We're planning a Q&A episode!! =E27 Create New Wealth Stories Our education system has done us a disservice; we spend all these years studying and then taking on a profession to do what most of us get jobs to earn money. Schools have not taught us anything concentre on the real-life value of money or wealth, and that is what we start doing after finishing our education. Most self-made millionaires either found it by learning independently or found a mentor who guided them through thick and thin of it. See, I teach four aspects of Wealth and Money in my course Guidance to Wealth. Generating money Saving Money Growing money Protecting money Instilling Wealth Habits George Bernard Shaw said “Money is the most important thing in the world. It represents health, strength, honor, generosity and beauty as conspicuously and undeniably as the lack of it represents illness, weakness, disgrace and ugliness.” Zig Ziglar said Money is not everything but it ranks right up there with oxygen. I believe wealth is good; wealth has to be respected; it can fulfill dreams and help with so many causes. To get the wealth, you have to first get the wealth awareness and consciousness if you don't already have it and then understand all the aspects of wealth. See, you need to have a compelling reason why you need wealth. So now, just the thought of having an abundance of wealth, well, what feelings and ideas does that bring in you, what emotions do you feel. What can you do if you have all the wealth you desire now? See, Imagination is really important to work with your dreams and aspirations. I would say be willing to pay the price for success now. Start thinking long-term. Sacrifice now if you are not at the level you need or want to be and have the future you want! Understanding “Why” is more important than the “How.” TAGS: Connect with Raj, visit www.RajKapur.com Email: raj@rajkapur.com Book a FREE Call www.rajkapur.com/freecall/

Ok, hands up if you’re a creative business who always has in the back of their mind that they want to create something new, go down a new direction, and gets that itch that they need to scratch to create create create!! Well, that’s what we’re going to be digging deep into today with Michelle from Show and Tell. We tackle important things like: Understanding WHY we are wanting to do what we want to do…. And why really. Who are we wanting to create these new offers for? Ourselves to fulfill something we’re lacking that we could be getting from what we currently offer? Or is there a real hole that needs to be filled and a clear demand for it? If you were to create something new, would the same problems arise that are happening with what you currently offer? It’s okay to sell it before you create it. A lot of people talk about this, and it’s because imagine spending all that time building something and no one wants it. Validating it first can be so amazing and we chat about the validation process. How to find ways to make the boring parts of business fun to you. Understanding how you work in your business is SO powerful because you can use that as a way to really get involved in the parts of business that you might not have usually thought were typically ‘fun’. Ask the right people the right questions about what they want. We figure out who those right people are and why you need to be paying attention to them because the thing you want to create may not even be what people want! Shaman Ron Interpreter joins me again to continue our conversation about the plant medicine retreat but this time we are LIVE in person and have my group coaching class with us on Zoom with us! In this episode, we delve into the 7 Questions that we teased about in Part 1 and get into some deep inner work! We start talking about the 7 questions where they come from and my experience with them. Ron teaches about AHOSIN from his Navajo teachings - he describes how we get to see the emotion, feel the emotion, and recognize the emotion, and just let it be that - an emotion, a registered moment. "In this moment, I'm feeling sad", not "I AM sad"You get to know there is a distinction between YOU and the feeling, and you can respond to that moment, and feel like you can actually transition out of that moment, and create a solution to come out of that. [16:16] Approaching to your threshold and moving through it to come on the other side to a new version of you, a new gift, a new awareness, a new healing. (aka comfort zone) [34:40] Understanding WHY you're triggered by others and one of my clients (Shirley) shares her energy treatment experience with Shaman Ron Interpreter [38:55] Stuck Energy & Ron's Energy Treatment Explained - the body is a natural extension of the Universe. We mirror the Universe in addition to each other. There are celestial points on our body/spiritual points that mirror the astrological elements of the Universe. [40:56] What happens when your needs are not met, how to "fill your own cup" and using the law of attraction to your benefit! (also spoken about at 54:12) [47:16] Wrapping up the 7 questions - the patterns you act out [47:49] How I raised my money mindset baseline to get to where I am today [49:23] Understanding yourself and your DHARMA (your purpose) [53:08] Unlearning conditioning and the most powerful affirmation to make your own [56:00] 12 States of Consciousness + my experience juicing and being raw vegan in 2010 and vegan since then (and how that altered/elevated my state of consciousness) + Navajo traditions and our role as humans and our gift back to the Universe We also talk a bit about our retreat toward the end and how it came about - check it out here: Our SOUL THERAPY WELLNESS RETREAT June 2-5 - 8 Spots Left! How many times have you heard a client complain of feeling bloated? Experiencing a distended, painful abdomen area is highly uncomfortable and can be quite embarrassing for anyone. Most people who struggle with bloating will reach for Tums, Pepto, bubbly drinks, take meds, or just put up with it. We live in a world of fast prescriptions and bandaid solutions, but this doesn't get to the root cause of what's causing the bloating and it will most likely continue to be an issue. Understanding WHY your client feels bloated is most important. Bloating happens when the body is telling us something is wrong. Most likely, they are not processing the foods they are eating. This happens because: Meal timing is off - the body enjoys being on a consistent rhythm and runs on it's own internal clocked called the circadian rhythm. Eating at sporadic times throughout the day or at least not on a consistent schedule will throw the body's natural processes out of alignment. Certain foods disrupt the gut - the most common culprits are the Furious Five: wheat, corn, soy, sugar and dairy. These foods are very inflammatory, and removing them will 100% make a massive difference in healing, repair, and digestive system function. Stomach acid levels are low - the stomach secretes a powerful acidic substance called HCl that must be at a certain low level of pH and high quantity level. If one or both of these factors are missing then food is not properly broken down in the stomach creating strain on the lower digestive processes, most likely resulting in putrification/rotting of food in the lower intestine. Testing your client's stomach acid level is vital to understanding whats going on. Stress is too high - when the body is in fight or flight mode, it cannot be in rest and digest, which is optimal for digestive processes. A busy schedule, always on the go, rushing when eating or just feeling overwhelmed are signs of stress and a strain on the nervous system. Listen into this episode as Ken and Sara break this topic down and give you insight on how to help a client elevate this frustrating symptom. Constantly covering up, or just putting up with the bloating, will cause more issues and symptoms to pop up down the road. Bloating is very common, but it is NOT NORMAL. It's a signal that something is not functioning well. Today, Andrew and Mo sit down to talk about competing versus winning. We'll discuss competing in a healthy way, versus competing in an unhealthy way. Over the past few years we've shifted our focus and evolved away from the competitive side of CrossFit, and are no longer a CrossFit affiliate. We still embrace, love, and see a lot of positives in competition, and want to take this episode to discuss the positives we see in competition in our gym. We'll also talk about how we believe that focusing too much on winning actually takes away from the heart and soul of the competition. Understanding WHY you want to compete is important, and we'll break that down in this episode.
In this episode of OutBüro Voices featuring LGBTQ professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders from around the world, host Dennis Velco chats with Sharon Rea, a Total Life Change Expert coach located in South Whales. 01:00 Understanding WHY someone does what they do is insightful and inspirational. Further, hear how they arrived at where they are today in their professional career, business, or community leadership role may inspire others. 01:45 Sharen shares that earlier this year she had the idea to launch 3 Empowerment Days. One focused on the LGBTQ+ community, the second on women, and the third on men. 02:10 Fear due to the COVID pandemic has for some been compounded by underlying fears. 02:35 Sharen explains that low confidence, low self-esteem, not believing in oneself, panic, phobia, anxiety, are all based on fear. 03:15 Sharon has developed a content-free way of dealing with deep-rooted long-held fears without having to delve back into the past situations that were the root causes. The system has been trialed over and over with gray success. 04:00 Virtual workshops are coupled with a duration of support. 05:15 Confidence doesn't happen overnight. It has to be taught/learned. 06:00 Dennis shares some personal experiences 16:00 For many four-letter dirty words are help, talk, play, and rest 16:30 Sharon shares some personal experiences 17:30 Sharon explain the difference between being shy and introverted 19:30 All thoughts and emotions are electrical and chemical. One gets addicted to the chemical naturally released based on the emotion. Fear, anger, depression, anxiety all release chemicals you can be addicted to. Luckily good healthy emotions and mental states are equally addictive. 23:00 Become aware of turning off the familiar autopilot to break free and change your life. 24:00 Sharon explains that her process blocks the fear and like switching on a light. 25:00 Sharon describes the empowerment course and follow-up. 27:00 Fear is a root emotion that builds layers. We discuss the fear of acceptance, love, money, success, prosperity, and more. 29:00 Accepting, respecting, loving and a relationship with yourself first is the most important and a foundation to give and receive from others. 32:00 Labels are the other person's projections and attempt to make themselves feel comfortable. They do not define you. 36:00 Have rules of engagement and boundaries. Make others aware of what you will not do, discuss, tolerate, etc. If and when those are passed or broken halt it and remind the other person. If it continues you may need to reconsider that relationship, limit it and maybe walk away, no matter who it is. I know from experience that sometimes it can be easier to blame other people for the way we feel. Especially when someone pisses us off or hurts our feelings. But it is important to start taking responsibility for our own thoughts and feelings. Understanding WHY we felt a certain way can really help us in taking that responsibility. Once we understand why, we can begin to better ourselves and heal. #AlexMoscow, CEO of 9mmPR has been working with CEOs for the past 20 years helping them to tell their story through the voice of their customers. Alex explains why you mustn't sell overtly using PR. You have to speak with the voice of your customer. Do you really know why they bought from you? Why they disqualified your competition? How far you have help them come? If you don't really know what problem you solve, it makes your sales a matter of luck rather than judgement. Understanding "Why?", "So what?", " Who cares?" This is incredibly powerful and missed by so many of your competitors. Good stories don't make you the hero. Your customer is the hero. You are Sherpa Tensing or Obi Wan. You are not Sir Edmund Hillary or Luke Skywalker, your customer is. Alex recommends you act out the story which lets them see themselves in your stories. He reminds us that we love to earwig a good conversation. We discuss why it's vital to enter the conversations that your prospects are already having using micro-narratives. What makes you, your market's perfect partner? In a world where time is a scarce commodity, failing to have a clear answer to this question means you will routinely find yourself in competitive situations. Give a clear answer and you are the only one they speak to. How do you position yourself as the aspirational choice? What makes people want to be part of the community that grows up around you? Are you using testimonials as powerful micro-narratives that make your clients the hero? PR lets you borrow the credibility of your customer and the editorial team without blowing your own trumpet. Alex elevates the why and the impact to help you tell stories that emotionally engage your target audience. If they are triggered emotionally, they will take action and contact you. If you want to be successful both personally and in business and be surrounded by a team of successful people, you need to start building your resilience muscle. My guest Chris Desmond, Physiotherapist, Coach and Host of Uncomfortable is OK knows more than most about being uncomfortable. Chris Desmond was also my guest on Episode 07: Uncomfortable is OK. So, What Is Resilience? Resilience means to be able to navigate and recover from challenging situations quickly. It's about getting better at overcoming challenges, which improves your ability to do hard things, and in business hard things come up all the time. Eventually, it leads to more success. "Resilience breeds persistence and persistence breeds success". Why Team Resilience Is Important Breeding resilience in your teams is essential. As they improve, you can delegate more tasks, and this will free up your time to work more on your business. A more skilled workforce may mean more pay for them but in the long run a better business for you. A more engaged team is less likely to leave, which saves times not having to re-train new team members, and also they tend to take less sick days. You end up with more production. It's Not About Hardening Up Just trying to harden up and pushing through a situation leads to being overwhelmed, burnt out, sickness and decreased productivity. Resilience is about having a skill set to cope with uncomfortable situations; it's the opposite to just pushing through it. It's figuring out a way for you to go through it while keeping yourself healthy and delivering quality work. Where To Start 1. Strategically need to step out of your comfort zone. Pick a situation you're not comfortable with and build your resilience muscle to that situation. In business, you may dislike networking events. If that's the case, you need to start attending networking events. 2. Do it progressively. Pick something just outside you comfortable a little bit and slowly start building you your resilience muscle. Think about new skills you want to learn. It's very similar to running a marathon. You do not jump off the couch and run a marathon; it's something you must train for and over time you build up your distance. What happens when the going gets thought? Easy for us to quite 3. Understanding WHY. When the going gets tough it's easy to quit, so you need to know WHY you're doing what you do. Ask these questions: a) How is what I'm doing getting me closer to the person I want to become? b) How is what I'm doing getting me closer to what I want to achieve? c) How is what I'm doing helping those people around me? 4. Cultivate a community around you that will build you up. They say you are the average of the five people around you, so do you have people around you that are positive? You get different things from different people, so you need multiple people in your community with different experiences and skill sets. You need to know who to go to about a specific topic, and who else for another issue. "Building resilience muscles benefit you, your team and everyone else around you". If you have any questions about this podcast episode, please contact me at tf@tysonfranklin.com or you can connect with Chris Desmond on FACEBOOK at Uncomfortable is OK, LinkedIn or his website UncomfortableIsOK.com If you're a podiatrist, or you're a person that is open to new ideas and like to think out of the box, check out the Podiatry Legends Podcast. Robert Riopel went from $150K in debt to financially free in 9 months. He shares his insights and journey on how he and his wife accomplished this and much more. Financial freedom means a lot more than what people think, and it’s also very much in reach for all of us. It just takes a bit of thinking, a bit of honesty, and working smart instead of working hard. The biggest mindset shift was why he and his wife spent money the way they did. Having awareness and understanding about your spending habits allows you to take control and really make some changes. There are three elements of change: Awareness (What exists?) Understanding (Why do you think what you think? Where did it come from? Reconditioning (Take the mindset and cellular shifts to look and think in a different way) Most people aren’t willing to take a look at their life and see honestly what they can do to move their life forward. The answers are usually right in front of us. Success does take work, but people don’t realise that they are going to work their butts off for less money anyway. Why not do it for more money? After taking the Millionaire Mind Intensive, they began systematising their Domino’s pizza franchise, which was not in the best location. Soon enough, several people wanted to buy it, and a deal of a lifetime came through as a result of them sticking to their integrity and knowing what they are worth. Remember that you are earning a living from 9-5p, but what you do from 5-9 you create our life. Set up passive incomes in the mornings. It takes systems and discipline. Another great avenue for success is having accountability partners who can support you on the journey. People are often afraid to ask for help, when in reality, vulnerability is strength. Success loves commitment, you must show up every week and also be grateful for what you do have. There is a difference between determination, devotion, dedication, and discipline. You need all of them for success. There will also be times when you want to give up. How do you move forward then? Say to yourself: “Look at what I’ve accomplished, can I take one more step?” Breath, say yes, and go. That’s how you get where you want to go. Don’t forget to take breaks. Most people don’t take the time to have a break. Our conditioning tells us: “You’re being lazy, you have no passion or drive” or whatever we watched or heard our parents say growing up. We become just like them or the exact opposite. Beliefs get formed where we grow up. We’re taught to work hard, hard, hard or you’re not working up to your full potential. When in reality, it’s all about what you can do in the moment right here, right now. Maybe it doesn’t live up to other people’s expectations but that’s their crap and not yours unless you take it on. Instead of being caught up in your own crap, observe your mindset .Why are you thinking what you think? What’s the next step forward? Become disassociated with the negative thoughts in your head. And trust that it all ties up together somehow. Another tip Robert gives is that the greatest gift anyone can give this world is to show up as you are. People will either appreciate you for it or not, both are great. We can only be who we are, and we must keep learning. Life is life, but at least enjoy the journey and always look for the lessons. Remind yourself to breath and just keep going. Facebook Robert Riopel Success Left a Clue Podcast

A quiz funnel is an engaging, personalized type of funnel that simply must be in your marketing process. Understanding WHY people want your product is key to eCommerce selling success, and a quiz funnel helps you understand your prospect's needs and wants. On this episode of Marketing For eCommerce, I explain how a quiz funnel can be used in two major types of eCommerce scenarios. I also explain how to create a quiz funnel that gives you results and offer a call to action that can jumpstart your new marketing strategy. It’s an episode not to be missed - listen now! A quiz funnel allows you to sell your product’s benefits, not its features One of the pillars of successful eCommerce is selling a product based on its benefits, not its features. The way your product will improve or change a customer’s life is what makes the sale, NOT it’s specs or features. That’s why a quiz funnel is one of the best marketing options. By creating a personalized quiz that directs every prospect through a series of tailored questions, you are able to determine what the prospect’s needs are. Then, you can align your product (or combination of products) to their wants and desires. It’s a creative way to provide a solution and valuable benefits to a prospect, without all the guesswork. There are 2 main ways to use a marketing quiz funnel - here they are! eCommerce professionals can use a quiz funnel in 2 ways. First, you could use this type of sales funnel if you have one product with many uses. The quiz funnel would allow you to present the same product to every prospect, but highlight different benefits depending on the needs of individual prospects. Secondly, you could use a quiz funnel to help prospects determine which of your many products fits their needs best. Quiz funnels prevent overwhelming a prospect with seemingly limitless combinations of products. They simply select which quiz answers fit their situation best and are directly guided towards the best solution. Happy Monday Motivation! Welcome back and thank you for listening to the weekly podcast, No More Excuses! Where are you? I mean literally for now. I'd love to have you email me or post here where you are listening to this. It's fun to see all the different, and new, locations. So yep, it's July now. Where are you in regards to your GOALS? This last week was a ROCKSTAR week for me. So, yes, June ended FANTASTICALLY. How about YOU? As I mention in the podcast, when I "practice what I preach", amazing shit happens! And, as I've mentioned a few times, this week started out pretty crappy, and as some things I was committed to were coming to an end in May, I vowed to "refocus and rebuild", and that I have! But I also know that June is a great time to check in on YOUR GOALS! The last couple podcasts were about investing in you, and also being KIND to yourself. Those two things alone can help you dramatically. And ironically I attended a Pass The Torch mentoring open house last week and the topic was about confidence, and learning how to reduce the crappy head trash. So... you gotta listen in to hear what the speakers suggestion was!! And then I want you to set up a time to REVIEW YOUR YEAR! Once you have, email me, tell me how it's going - if you're ROCKING IT... tell me why or how. And, if you're off-track, think about what's happened, how you've felt, what challenges you've face. Understanding WHY, much like I did in May, helped me make some immediate changes and BOOM! I look forward to hearing from you and if you if you've had a crap year and just can't figure out what to do... email me, let's talk NOW so you can FINISH STRONG! Cheers! And please SHARE this podcast!! It will help me become famous! :) Sandi

Bulletproof Dental Practice Podcast Episode 39 Hosts: Dr. Peter Boulden & Dr. Craig Spodak Guest: David Harris, founder & CEO of Prosperident Watch the full video of interview by clicking here! Key Takeaways: At least 60% of dentists will be embezzled from, but the actual percentage is probably higher. Understanding WHY people steal will help in profiling an embezzler. People steal for 2 reasons: need & greed. Thieves want to be alone when they steal. Keep an eye out for employees who are coming in early, leaving late, or otherwise coming and going at strange times. Be familiar with your practice management software’s daily and monthly financial reports, and run / print those reports yourself. Don’t give anyone the option to report selectively. The Office Manager generally has the most opportunity for financial theft, but anyone at the front desk can be capable as well. Any form of wealth transfer to you can be intercepted; cash, check, ACH, sale of dental supplies, time, you name it. Most embezzlement is not found through audits, but by watching employee behavior. Look for staff members who have money issues, compulsive behavior, who never take vacation, staff members who always resist change, who are territorial, resistant to outside advisors, resistant to upgrades, etc. Less than 1/3 of embezzlement is discovered through a financial anomaly. The other 2/3 of embezzlement is discovered based on watching employee behavior. Many dentists feel ashamed about finding they’ve been embezzled from, but in reality it is not the dentist that caused it, and there is no reason to feel ashamed. There’s no way to totally safe-proof your business, but you can work to catch embezzlement early on. Shift your attention from prevention to detection. Proper background checks during hiring are the BEST way to safeguard your business from embezzlement. When hiring a new employee, talk to all previous employers for the last 5 years. Don’t call the phone number given to you by the potential new hire, instead google them and call the number found there. Ask for exact start date and exact end date, compare those to the resume. You’re looking for discrepancies that may indicate hidden jobs. Confirm job title. The best question to ask is, “Would you rehire this person again if you had a job opening and they were available?” 1 in 4 adults in the US has a criminal record. Prosperident offers a range of products designed to help you put systems in place to aide in preventing embezzlement, and they also offer investigation products should you suspect an embezzler may be at work in your business.
The body is an intelligent system that tightly regulates hormone production, including testosterone. If your hormones are out of balance (too high or too low), there is likely one or a few underlying reasons why the body is producing less testosterone. In this episode I discuss some of those reasons which include excessive cortisol production, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and too much conversion of testosterone into estrogen. Understanding WHY testosterone can be low, is important to understanding HOW to increase it. Tune into this episode to find out more. Understanding Why by Cornerstone North
Sometimes we get locked into a sick cycle of failure. When that happens... things can seem pretty hopeless. We can seem completely lost. Permanently locked into a neverending circle of mediocrity and non-progress. Eventually, we might give up hope of success completely. It's when we find ourselves in those desperate, terrible situations... that we need to believe in ourselves and the power of change more than ever. We need to believe that we CAN try again... and that THIS time... things WILL be different. We NEED to BELIEVE. It's time we try. Just ONE more time. I've been there. I get it. This is hard. It can seem completely hopeless. it can seem like a lost cause and you'll never get there... especially since you've already tried this 5 times with no positive result. Y'know what? Like the old saying goes... fall down 7 times... get up 8. It's up to us to believe... that THIS TIME... just one... last... try... This time... things CAN... and WILL... be different. There's a method to the madness here. Today's episode will cover the following bases: My run today and what I think it means for my big goals My “big resurgence” with STIF How to ACTUALLY have THIS time be different. Do that by: Acknowledging past failures, owning it, and being able to move forward Understanding WHY and HOW you failed in the past Know yourself Getting your head right Setting the goal Developing the plan Executing and following through Figuring out what happens when you get there I firmly believe, as a result of having been there, that if you just BELIEVE firmly enough... this time really, truly CAN and WILL be different. Have a little faith in yourself.
