Be sure to check out her first appearance on episode 656 of Boundless Body Radio!Siobhan Huggins is an independent researcher with interests in cholesterol metabolism, inflammation, lipedema, and metabolic diseases. After meeting former podcast guest Dave Feldman at Ketofest 2017, Siobhan's passion for lipidology was ignited and she was driven to research all she could in an attempt to figure out how lipids were involved in the immune system and chronic diseases. After losing over 80 pounds, she referred to a lipedema specialist for a possible diagnosis, which sparked her interest in the condition as a whole and the people it affects every day. She was finally diagnosed with lipedema in 2021, and she promptly joined the board of the Lipedema Project as a Research Specialist. She presents at various conferences on lipedema pathophysiology and the mechanisms of why ketogenic diets may be uniquely beneficial for managing lipedema symptoms and progression. Epi 8In this powerful episode of The Cutting Edge Podcast, Mel and Ashlyn Douglass-Barnes (LCSW & bariatric + skin removal patient) sit down with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Omar E. Beidas to talk about the things no one prepares you for after massive weight loss and plastic surgery.
A single camping trip triggered years of rapid decline, mysterious hair loss, brain fog, and bedridden days, yet one woman turned it around without antibiotics and rebuilt her life.I sat down with Erika Schlick, who battled celiac disease, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, multiple autoimmune issues, and finally lipedema. She shares how gluten sparked alopecia, why traditional doctors dismissed chronic Lyme, and how shifting to an autoimmune paleo protocol gave her the first real clarity. We talk about ozone therapy, herbal frequency tinctures, plasmapheresis, and the stem cell treatment that cleared her Lyme symptoms but unexpectedly triggered massive weight gain, leading to her lipedema diagnosis.Erika also opens up about the dark emotional days, the power of nervous system regulation, and why listening to your body beats blindly following popular trends.“Listen to your body. Lipedema is one of the most misunderstood conditions women face. It shows up as uneven fat in the lower body that doesn't respond to diet or exercise, often leading to frustration, pain, and a feeling of being dismissed by healthcare providers. Beyond the physical symptoms, the emotional toll is huge. Once treated, many women celebrate simple wins like finally zipping up a pair of boots.San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Hector Salazar and massage therapist Linda-Anne Kahn explain what lipedema really is, how it differs from obesity, cellulite, and lymphedema, and why early diagnosis and treatment make such a difference. With over 40 years of experience working in integrative health, Linda-Anne shares how being diagnosed herself inspired her to help other women find relief through manual lymphatic drainage and holistic care. Dr. Salazar explains how he treats it surgically with liposuction, and how combining surgery with massage therapy, nutrition, and lifestyle changes can improve symptoms at every stage.Together, they break down what works, what doesn't, and why awareness of lipedema matters for patients, families, and providers alike.LinksIf you have lipedema and want to learn how we can help you get the answers and treatment you deserve, request a free consultation with Dr. SalazarMeet San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Hector Salazar-ReyesLearn more about San Diego lymphatic drainage massage therapist Linda-Anne KahnCheck out the book Linda-Anne co-authored, Lymphedema and Lipedema Nutrition GuideLearn from the talented plastic surgeons inside La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre, the 12x winner of the San Diego's Best Union-Tribune Readers Poll, global winner of the 2020 MyFaceMyBody Best Cosmetic/Plastic Surgery Practice, and the 2025 winner of Best Cosmetic Surgery Group in San Diego Magazine's Best of San Diego Awards.Join hostess Monique Ramsey as she takes you inside LJCSC, where dreams become real. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Yvonne: Just listened to a podcast in which the doctor was recommending taking a nicotine patch everyday - starting with 1mg for 7 days and then 3 mg everday after that - supposed to be good for a variety of things but he mainly takes it to avoid getting viruses. Your thoughts on this. NOTE: You many not want to read this next sentence. Sheena: Hi Dr. C! Hope you and your team are well. I'm from Canada and went for recent bloodwork and my WBC is 3.8 (I think in US measurements it is 3800). All other markers for CBC are good). I don't have any symptoms of low WBC nor do I have an autoimmune disease. This is the third year in a row my WBC has been low. Should I be concerned? Is there something I can do to help increase it? Any tests I can run? Does this mean my body cant fight infections and/or (God forbid) I get cancer? Looking forward to hearing anything you can suggest or recommend. Thank you! Tricia: Hello Dr. Cabral - Ever since I was a child, I would never just get a "cold". Those little colds would turn into bronchitis or whooping cough. I would be sick for two weeks from cold induced asthma. As I've gotten older, my asthma has gotten much better but what hasn't changed is when I get a cold, I always need prednisone for me to get better. I'm 55 year old female and have been hard working hard on my health and I don't want to continue this cycle with prednisone. I feel there is something wrong and this isn't normal. Can you give me your opinion and what you think I need to work on to try to avoid this from happening. I typically get sick once a year. Any advice is helpful! I am currently taking many of your supplements to achieve my wellness journey! Thank you so much! Sheena: Hi Dr. C! Hope you and your team are well. I'm a 45 yo female and have started taking creatine monohydrate because I heard all good things. I take it everyday, first thing in the morning, in my protein shake or in my coffee but I'm noticing loose stool. Is this normal? Am I taking too much (5gl)? Do I need to ease into it? Does it benefit women in perimenopause? Is it better to take before, during or after a workout? I've listened to all your podcasts that you discuss creatine but I'm still confused. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and recommendations. Thx in advanced for your help! Bettina: Hi Dr. Cabral. What are your thoughts on specialized lipedema surgery, like the one Dr. performs in Madrid? I follow his clinic on Instagram and have heard positive things about it, as well as from some clinics in Germany where lipedema is acknowledged. In this episode of the Food Junkies Podcast, Dr. Vera Tarman speaks with Bonnie Newlin, registered dietitian nutritionist, Certified LEAP Therapist, founder of Crave Nourishment, and member of the Lipedema Education Group. Bonnie specializes in the nutritional management of lipedema and chronic inflammation. Lipedema is a progressive adipose and connective tissue disorder that primarily impacts women, often misdiagnosed as obesity. Bonnie shares her own story of living with lipedema—including a 170-pound weight loss, delayed diagnosis, and eventual lipidema reduction surgery—and how food addiction and weight cycling complicate early recognition of the condition. Together, Dr. Tarman and Bonnie explore: What lipedema is and how it differs from obesity and lymphedema Early signs, symptoms, and barriers to diagnosis The role of hormonal changes in progression Why ultra-processed foods and sodium worsen lipedema symptoms The connection between lipedema, food addiction, and binge/restrict cycles How anti-inflammatory nutrition and lifestyle strategies can reduce pain, swelling, and disease progression Emerging treatments, including compression therapy, lymphatic drainage, vibration therapy, and lipedema reduction surgery Myths about lipedema and why it's often misunderstood in medical settings Bonnie's vision for DNA-guided nutrition research to better serve this population This episode sheds light on a condition that may affect up to 11% of women yet remains underdiagnosed and misunderstood. If you or someone you know struggles with chronic swelling, painful fat, or unexplained weight changes—especially alongside food addiction—this conversation offers clarity, compassion, and hope.
In this episode, Dr. Sara Pugh and I have a laid-back, unscripted conversation about a variety of health topics. We dive into the benefits and limitations of using collagen, particularly for joint pain. I share my personal experiences with low estrogen and how turning 45 changed my perspective on health issues like joint pain. We also talk about the importance of circadian biology and quantum health, sharing how changing my diet and lifestyle helped me overcome fertility issues and mental health struggles, including my previous use of medications like benzodiazepines. Dr. Sara and I discuss the misconceptions around hormone replacement therapy and why it's crucial to understand your genetic makeup before diving into any treatment. We both agree on the importance of basic, cost-effective wellness practices like spending time in natural light, grounding, and maintaining a seasonal diet. Throughout the episode, we touch on personal anecdotes and emphasize the need for a holistic, personalized approach to health.Topics Discussed:→ Collagen – what it really helps with (and what it doesn't)→ The truth behind cellulite, lipedema, and body image pressures→ Hormone chaos in perimenopause: estrogen, progesterone & testosterone→ Why one-size-fits-all HRT can be risky (and how to test properly)→ Cold plunges, circadian biology & the power of seasonal eating→ Mental health, addiction, and finding balance with quantum wellnessSponsored By:→ Troscriptions | There's a completely new way to optimize your health. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Lillian: Hello Dr. Cabral! Two questions: I was wondering if you know anything on Baja Gold sea salt. It is supposed to be naturally lower in sodium and have a high concentration of minerals and trace elements. In their third party testing Baja Gold tests below CODEX and Prop 65 requirements. 2) Himalayan or Real Salt (Utah) don't have iodine, how do you supplement? Thank you! John: Hey doc .me and my family drinks a lot water ..we recently just purchased the aqu true that you recommend . I wanted to know if we should add minerals to to or since I do the dns and dfvb is that enough . Thanks Kendall: Now that I'm learning about how important the detox protocols are for our health, I want to involve my kids as well. My kids are 11, 9 and 6. I'm wondering what advice you can give parents on using detoxes for children. For example when my littlest was 4 she had some symptoms that could fall under parasites. Are there product lines you would recommend that would be gentle enough for kids? I'm assuming the products you sell are more for adults. I would love to include the kids for annual detoxes. Eleazar: Hello dr Cabral I have a question have u ever heard of long lived plasma cells and how they are a big reason autoimmune diseases are chronic since those cells live so long and they can continue to make autoantibodies as well and conventional doctors say since there's no way to eliminate them that's the reason autoimmune can't fully go away what's ur opinion on that? Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral! I'm convinced I have lipedema. I haven't been to the Dr to confirm yet. My torso, arms & legs all feel like I have grainy/pebbly texture beneath the skin. My knees have a weird “fat pad” on the side. I listened to another show where you mentioned lipedema, & I thought you said you have been able to help people reverse it. All of my research says it's incurable, but can manage it and calm swelling and pain, but the nodular fat will not go away without lipo. My questions are: are you familiar with any other scenario where texture I feel on myself as I described is normal? Or is that pebbly feeling always lipedema? Have you actually seen people get rid of the nodular lipedema fat & heal completely? Or just reduce swelling, pain & normal fat?Diet advice for this condition?
