Most women step into perimenopause the same way Gabriela did — in the dark, without language, without a roadmap, and without anyone telling them what was actually happening in their bodies. The anxiety, the brain fog, the rage, the fatigue, the loss of libido — they could feel it all, but they could not make sense of it. Dr. Mariza Snyder felt the same way. Even after 17 years of clinical experience supporting women through this transition. In this episode of Pleasure in the Pause, Gabriela sits down with Dr. Mariza Snyder for one of the most layered and honest conversations this show has ever had. This is a deeply intergenerational conversation and together they bridge that gap and pass the wisdom forward. Are you ready to awaken your sensuality and feel more empowered in your body? That is not a warning. That is a promise. Perimenopause is equally as destabilizing as it is transformative — and the more you understand what your body is doing and why, the more you can move through it with clarity, compassion, and a sense of what is actually possible on the other side. Have you ever lain awake at 3am, heart racing, mind running through a list of worries you cannot seem to turn off? Or maybe it is the opposite — you move through your days flat, numb, going through the motions of a life that looks perfectly fine from the outside while feeling strangely absent from it on the inside. Both of those states have a name. And neither of them is a personal failing. In this solo episode, Gabriela shares one of the most foundational concepts in nervous system work — the window of tolerance — and explains why understanding it as a map of your biology rather than just your emotions changes everything. Drawing on her recent immersion at the Omega Institute with nervous system educator Jessica McGuire, and weaving in her own deeply personal story of survival mode, perimenopause, and coming home to herself, Gabriela walks you through what dysregulation actually looks like in midlife, why it so often gets mistaken for a character flaw, and two simple practices to begin returning to your window right now. This is not just an episode to listen to. It is one to feel.Highlights from our discussion includeWhat the window of tolerance is and why it is a map of your biology, not just your emotionsWhat hyperarousal looks like in midlife women — including the version that looks like overachieving and perfectionism What hypoarousal looks like — the flat, numb, going-through-the-motions version so many women recognize Why stress followed by genuine recovery builds resilience, and why overriding your own limits destroys itHow adverse childhood experiences connect to a more difficult perimenopause transition Two guided practices — exteroception and containment — to return to regulation right now Why regulation is not a wellness trend but the foundation of sleep, desire, digestion, and connection The window of tolerance is not about becoming someone who never gets dysregulated. It is about building the capacity to return — more quickly, more gently, more reliably — to the place where life can actually be lived. If you heard your own story somewhere in this episode, your nervous system is not broken. It is doing what it learned to do, sometimes a long time ago, in a body that is now changing. That is not a flaw. That is information. And information is where we begin. So many of us spend most of our lives stuck in our heads, disconnected from our bodies and a bit removed from what we're actually feeling. Embodiment offers us a different way of relating to ourselves. When we begin to develop more embodied awareness, we're able to go deeper in our healing. It gives us a way to regulate and to understand what's really happening within, including what we actually need to heal. And over time, practicing this kind of embodiment begins to change our inner relationship. We start to feel more connected, more supported from within, and less alone in what we're experiencing. In this episode of Somatic Healing Meditations, I guide you through a gentle somatic meditation designed to help you come back into your body and deepen your self-connection. We'll begin by grounding into your body and senses with body scan breathing, and then move into somatic emotional processing to help you connect with and gently work through any feelings that are being held within. As you follow along, you may find yourself feeling more connected to yourself, more supported from within, and more in touch with what's actually true for you. This is where a deeper kind of healing begins to unfold. Self-connection is at the heart of holistic coaching. In order to see the whole picture of your clients as human beings, you have to understand your own mind, emotions, and nervous system and how they impact you both personally and professionally. Even if you're not a coach, connecting to yourself is essential to connecting more deeply in your relationships and with the world around you. That's why I am so excited about this conversation with Master Coach, Maria Hendershot. Maria and I have known each other for a while and have worked together in different capacities, including as co-authors on our best-selling book, She Rises. She took part in my holistic Master Coach Training program, and I've had the opportunity to witness her become so masterful in her ability to articulate coaching concepts that truly help others transform.Like many of us, Maria was initially trained in a cognitive approach focused on how thoughts create feelings and shape our results. Through deeper training, she began to understand what was happening in the nervous system, what was getting stored in the body, and why patterns get recycled. Today, you'll hear how that understanding opened a whole new space for growth, both for herself and for the women she works with.As you listen to this episode, I hope you take in how important it is to be kind and gentle with yourself, and to really see and accept all of you. When you can do that, you create space for greater wholeness, deeper self-connection, and more meaningful, lasting change in your life and in how you support others. Let's dive in!What you'll learn:How Maria combines different methodologies and tools to support transformationWhy a mindset-only approach can only take you so far before it starts working against youHow self-connection impacts your ability to create change in every area of your lifeHow Maria uses her training as a Tiny Habits coach to support aligned actionWhy celebrating small wins isn't frivolous, but essential to shaping new patternsYou can read the full show notes here.About Maria HendershotMaria Hendershot is a master certified life coach and health coach who helps overwhelmed midlife women feel like themselves again—and become the woman who achieves her goals. Shame is one of the most powerful and misunderstood forces shaping our lives. In this deeply insightful conversation, I sit down with author, counselor, and teacher David Bedrick to explore what it truly means to “unshame” ourselves. Rather than seeing our struggles as problems to fix, David invites us to view them as doorways into deeper self-awareness, compassion, and connection. We talk about how shame forms in childhood, why traditional self-improvement approaches often reinforce it, and how embodied awareness can help us transform suffering into meaningful growth. David shares his personal journey, the philosophy behind his work at the Santa Fe Institute for Shame-based Studies, and practical reflections on how we can begin to relate differently to our inner critic, our pain, and the parts of ourselves we've learned to hide. This episode is a gentle but powerful reminder that healing doesn't come from becoming someone new. #142: On today's episode, Jacq Gold, founder and force behind Your Inner Babe: a self-growth program focused on self connection, joins the podcast to share her personal healing journey and what it actually means to be connected to yourself. This conversation gets into the layers of self trust, the coping mechanisms we mistake for truth, and how self-connection is more than just awareness, it's finding safety within ourselves. The girls get into:• why self connection is a skill, and why most of us were never taught how to be in a relationship with ourselves • why we assign ourselves false identities to feel safe, and how those labels disconnect us from who we actually are • how protector parts and coping mechanisms are often mistaken for personality traits or authenticity• the connection between control, eating disorders, and not expressing your truth, even to yourself • why self awareness without action is actually choosing to stay the same and why self trust is a requirement • the difference between “I am this” vs. “I feel this,” and how that shift creates space for healing and emotional regulation • auditing your inner dialogue and actively challenging negative self talk in real time• the misconception that healing means you'll one day feel no pain, and why it's actually about building resilience• what real vulnerability looks like beyond surface-level sharing, and how telling the truth brings you closer to yourself• how we've learned to present what's “palatable” to others, and how that can pull us further away from what we actually feel • why self connection is a choice, and how everything changes when you decide to show up for yourself differentlyThis episode is for anyone who feels disconnected from themselves, stuck in patterns they can't fully understand, or questioning what parts of them are real vs. learned. "I'm so concerned about that being a fracturing of our psyche, in which we only allow empowerment... Can we just have someone to stand with us in that space? So that the process, no matter what we choose, is a process of self connection." - Sarah Champie On this episode of Transforming Trauma, host Emily Ruth welcomes Sarah Champie (LCSW), a licensed trauma therapist and NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®) practitioner who specializes in supporting individuals and families navigating hereditary cancer, genetic testing, and preventative surgery decisions. Sarah is also the creator and host of the podcast Walking the Genetic Line. Sarah draws on her own experience as a BRCA1 carrier and the childhood loss of her mother to ovarian cancer to illuminate what she calls the "portal moment" of receiving genetic testing results. Together, Emily Ruth and Sarah explore why empowerment-only narratives fall short, how NARM® survival styles shape our responses to medical urgency, and the critical gap in emotional care for those facing life-altering body decisions. Sarah makes a compelling case that healing in this space means holding agency and grief at the same time, honoring the complexity of identity shifts, projective memory, and the deep longing for connection that surfaces when mortality enters the room. In this deeply personal and insightful episode, host Doug sits down with Dr. Jeremy Goldberg a PhD scientist turned life coach, TEDx speaker, and author. Dr. Goldberg shares the powerful "origin story" of his kindness movement, starting with a simple, brave act for a stranger in an airport that transformed his life and career. The conversation dives into the internal negotiation between "Heart Whispers" (our quiet intuitive nudges) and "Fear Shouts" (the loud, anxious voices that stop us from acting with integrity). Whether you are a man navigating the "before times" and "after times" of fatherhood, or someone looking to reconnect with your authentic self beneath years of social constructs, this episode offers a roadmap for leading a more compassionate, courageous life. Key Topics Covered: · The Power of Small Acts: How a handwritten card in an airport sparked a global mission to make kindness cool. · Intuition vs. Anxiety: Understanding the "Fear Shouts and Heart Whispers" mantra to navigate life's uncertainty. · The Human Psyche and Snap Judgments: Why our brains use evolutionary shortcuts to judge strangers in traffic and public spaces. · Authenticity and Childhood Constructs: Challenging the "survivor" personalities we built as children to find who we truly are. · The Hidden Grief of Parenthood: A raw discussion on the loss of identity and time that comes with becoming a new father. · Invisible Benevolent Forces: Exploring the synchronicities and nudges that lead us toward growth and connection. About Dr. Jeremy Goldberg Dr. Jeremy Goldberg is a PhD-trained scientist turned life coach, author, and speaker whose mission is to make kindness and compassion a global standard. Known as a "dream doula," he leverages a decade of international research into human behavior to help individuals reclaim their agency and rewrite the personal stories that hold them back. His diverse background—spanning from ordained ministry and SCUBA diving to hosting a top-ranked global podcast and leading 200 km pilgrimages in Spain—informs his unique approach to "conviction excavation" and personal growth. Through his brand, Long Distance Love Bombs, Jeremy uses creative writing and spoken word poetry as mediums for healing and clarity. He focuses on the idea that beliefs are choices and identities are malleable, providing his clients with the faith and tools needed to stimulate profound life epiphanies. With a book titled It'll Be Okay, And You Will Be Too and a TEDx talk questioning "What if kindness was cool?", he continues to bridge the gap between rigorous scientific understanding and heartfelt, creative expression to make the world better than he found it. What if autoimmune disease is not an overactive immune system, but a loss of immune tolerance? In our latest episode, I sit down with Dr. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN, a pioneer in integrative and functional medicine, to unpack the difference between suppressing symptoms and restoring true immune balance. We explore the concept of immune competence, why inflammation often reflects a repair deficit, and how the body's innate intelligence can be supported rather than silenced. Dr. Jaffe challenges the conventional "anti" model of medicine and instead emphasizes evoking repair through bioavailable nutrition and targeted lifestyle strategies. We discuss autoimmune disease, immune tolerance, advanced biomarkers, and the critical role of nutrients like vitamin C in cellular repair and resilience. This conversation reframes longevity as healthspan and vitality, reminding us that sustainable healing begins by restoring balance at the systems level. If you are ready to rethink inflammation, immunity, and what true healing looks like, this episode is for you. Key takeaways: Transformation through Adversity: Tyler Bramlett's career shifted due to personal injuries, leading him to develop a fitness philosophy focused on movement freedom and longevity rather than aesthetics. Critique of Traditional Fitness Culture: Tyler discusses the toxic narratives in the fitness industry that drive people towards self-loathing and unhealthy pursuits of physical perfection. Personalized Approach to Fitness: Through We Shape, Tyler emphasizes the importance of customized workouts that honor individual needs, capabilities, and health conditions. Movement Snacks for Health: Tyler suggests incorporating small, mindful movement practices throughout the day to enhance mobility and health without the rigidity of structured workouts. Mindset and Community: A supportive community and a positive mindset are crucial for real health transformations, shifting the focus from external validation to internal well-being. More About Tyler Bramlett: Tyler Bramlett is a movement coach, father, and Co-founder of WeShape whose path was reshaped by a cycling accident that shattered his femur and permanently damaged his knee. Unable to return to traditional, appearance-driven fitness routines, he began a 15-year healing journey that included multiple surgeries and deep study in functional anatomy, biomechanics, and rehabilitation. Through working with top physical therapists and coaches, he discovered that real transformation comes from moving smarter, not pushing harder. This led him to reject shame-based fitness culture and create an approach centered on alignment, mindful movement, and what he calls "movement freedom" — the ability to live without feeling trapped in a body that hurts. After building and later stepping away from a multi-million-dollar fitness company that ranked on the Inc. 500 for three consecutive years, Tyler and his wife founded WeShape to challenge the belief that worth is tied to appearance. His work now sits at the intersection of movement, psychology, and culture, helping primarily women 50+ reduce pain, restore confidence, and build healthier relationships with their bodies. With more than 800 million views and 6.3 million followers across platforms, Tyler blends personal story, practical expertise, and emotional depth. His message resonates widely, making him a compelling voice in conversations around wellness, mindset, resilience, and the future of fitness. Website Instagram Facebook YouTube Connect with me! There is no one else like you. No one has your exact mix of experiences, personality, beliefs, strengths, and challenges. And the more you lean into that truth, the easier it becomes to stop comparing yourself to what everyone else is doing.Social media and modern culture are designed to keep you tethered to other peoples opinions and highlight reels. It is incredibly easy to scroll, look around, and convince yourself that someone else is doing it better than you. But the more connected you are to yourself, the less power those comparisons have.I talk about making a conscious decision to appreciate who and what you see when you look in the mirror, especially if you have spent years tearing yourself down out of habit. That habit can be replaced. You can choose to build yourself up, reinforce that belief daily, and create a healthier relationship with yourself that supports everything else you are working toward. This episode is about reconnecting with yourself, appreciating your uniqueness, and choosing to live from the inside/out. When you do that, not only does comparison lose its grip, but the goals you chase and the life you build often begin to shift in ways that feel more aligned and fulfilling. Please share this episode with anyone you think would be interested in listening to it.Visit darylperrypodcast.com for links to the show page on each of the major podcast directories. We spend so much time focusing on our relationships with other people that it's easy to forget we matter too. The relationship we have with ourselves is the foundation for every other relationship in our lives, and when that self-connection is strained or neglected, everything else feels harder.Today, I'm sharing a special rebroadcast from the Raising Boys, Building Men podcast, hosted by Master Coach Heidi Allsop. In this conversation with my fellow She Rises co-authors, Michelle Keil and Maria Hendershot, we discussed how the themes we each write about in the book—wholeness over hustle culture, creativity, nervous system regulation, and joy—directly support moms who want to care for themselves and their kids at the same time. One of the most important reminders in this conversation is that our kids are always watching. They're learning what adulthood looks like from how we live. When we show them that life isn't meant to be lived in a constant state of burnout or perfectionism, we give them a very different template for their own lives and relationships.Strengthening our relationship with ourselves doesn't take anything away from the people we love—it actually allows us to better foster those relationships. In this episode, we share practical, doable ways to step out of hustle culture and back into self-connection, without adding another thing to your to-do list. This conversation is about remembering who you are, why your wellbeing matters, and how small shifts can change everything. What you'll learn:How to start small with self-care when slowing down feels uncomfortableHow to work with your nervous system and when doing less feels dangerousWhy joy is a birthright, not a reward for finishing your to-do listHow simple creative practices can regulate your nervous system and quiet overthinkingWhy modeling rest and boundaries can teach your kids what adulthood looks likeYou can read the full show notes here.About Heidi AllsopHeidi Allsop is a Certified Life Coach, Social Worker, and proud Mom of five sons. Known as the Boy Mom Coach, Heidi specializes in empowering moms to strengthen their relationship with their sons, so they can truly enjoy him at every age. With nearly three decades of experience, Heidi understands the challenges of raising boys in today's world. Why do most New Year's resolutions fail by week three? Often because we don't really connect with those resolutions. In this episode, we'll build on our self-connection series to see how that work of connecting with our true self can inform goals that we're more likely to achieve. We'll focus on a two-step framework for goal achievement: fit (goals that match your authentic values) and grit (sustained effort that doesn't lead to burnout). I recently returned from a men's work retreat through the Island of Men: a transformative program designed to help men connect and heal.I left with two main takeaways.1: There is a tremendous male loneliness and meaning epidemic. Men feel alone and unsure of what they are doing, why they are doing it, and feel like they have no one to talk it through with.2: There is vulnerability within positivity and success.I was asked about my purpose and realized that I was already living it (a journey over destination kind of thing), and I chose to do an improve comedy workshop over the deep introspective darkness exploration and healing that I would usually explore. Why? Because doing so felt more expansive (scary) than not. I realized I am more than fine to share my pain and shadow, but not my light. This was revolutionary. I now realise that I need to explore and express all aspects of myself.Reminder: You are invited to join the December Self-Care challenge in the Art of Self-Connection community. Lets stay sane this festive season!

In this deeply soulful episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta Yadav sits down with May Lindstrom, founder of May Lindstrom Skin, to explore the intimate connection between sensitivity, ritual, and true nourishment. Known for her artisanal, plant-based formulations and sensory-rich approach to beauty, May shares how her lifelong struggle with eczema led her to create skincare that heals rather than hides — born from necessity, curiosity, and love.Raised in the natural stillness of northern Minnesota, May found refuge in the earth's elements — clays, oils, honey, and herbs — long before “clean beauty” became a movement. “It's not that skincare is bad,” she reflects. “It's just not made for me.” That realization sparked a philosophy rooted in respect for the skin as a living organ, not a canvas for correction. Her formulations — minimal, potent, and entirely natural — focus on feeding the skin what it recognizes, not overwhelming it with synthetics. Her cult-favorite creation, The Blue Cocoon, captures that essence — a calming blue balm made with blue tansy, designed to soothe inflammation, heal sensitivity, and offer a moment of self-grounding. “It's like a hug for your skin,” May says. “A reminder to slow down and care.”This episode is a meditation on slowing down in a world obsessed with surface perfection. Tune in as May Lindstrom and Dr. Ekta explore how skincare can be both science and soul — an act of self-connection that begins and ends with care.Shop May Lindstrom SkinCHAPTERS:0:02 – Introduction & Guest Welcome0:38 – Defining Sensitive Skin & Root Causes2:22 – Early Experiences & Family Influence5:05 – Discovering Natural Healing Through Clay & Plants7:30 – The Unspoken Truth About Sensitive Skin & Industry Gaps8:12 – Treating Skin as an Organ, Not a Surface12:13 – Ingredients to Avoid & The Power of Simplicity17:47 – Creating with Intention: Ritual Over Trend21:39 – The Blue Cocoon: A Symbol of Healing & Ritual25:02 – Nourishment, Longevity & Final ReflectionsPlease fill out this survey to give us feedback on the show!Don't forget to subscribe to Skin Anarchy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform.Reach out to us through email with any questions.Sign up for our newsletter!Shop all our episodes and products mentioned through our ShopMy Shelf! What if true confidence isn't something you build—but something you rediscover within yourself? In this episode, Jessica and Kelly explore the theme of building confidence through self-connection, particularly in midlife. They discuss the importance of introspection, recognizing disconnection from oneself, and the core practices that can help individuals reconnect with their values and desires. The conversation emphasizes that true confidence comes from within and is about being authentic and unapologetically oneself. They also provide practical tips for listeners to cultivate self-connection and confidence in their daily lives. Inside This Conversation: Confidence is built through self-connection and introspection. Midlife is a time for rediscovering who you are. True confidence comes from within, not external validation. Recognizing disconnection from oneself is crucial for growth. Practices like journaling and mindfulness can enhance self-connection. Honoring your values is essential for building confidence. Celebrating small wins helps reinforce self-acceptance. Setting boundaries is a form of self-connection. Doubt is a natural part of the journey to confidence. Being unapologetically you is about being at home with yourself. Connect With Us:

☮As I created this meditation, I realized it had been far too long since I last crafted a practice devoted solely to inner peace and calm. This meditation is exactly that, a gentle return home to stillness. During this practice, we'll drop deep into the body and heart space, accessing the infinite reservoir of peace that exists far beyond the physical. Beyond the noise, there is stillness - always. This is a heart-centered practice you can return to daily, whenever you need to reconnect with that quiet, unwavering calm within. With love, Jo
