On this episode of the podcast, Chewy and Eugene discuss why BJJ should not be an Olympic Sport. We discuss both pros and cons of Jiu-Jitsu in the Olympics, how the Olympic Judo rulesets have influenced the sport, why BJJ being in the Olympics will decrease the evolution of BJJ, how the variety in BJJ helps growth, the difference between amateur and professional athletes, what will help to continue to grow Jiu-Jitsu, the importance of the lifestyle element to Jiu-Jitsu 31, and why decreased regulations allow for more tournaments. Hi and welcome to the Tales From the Trail podcast by MatchPlay. In this episode I welcome Olympic Judo hopeful, David Terao. David was an All-American wrestler at American University with a foundation in competitive judo and jiu jitsu. He went on to compete as an adult in wrestling and jiu jitsu at the highest levels. He made the decision to go back to his roots in judo with the hopes of competing for the United States in the Paris Olympics in 2024. The attributes and habits David relies on to perform at this level are applicable to athletes wherever they are in their careers. SummaryDavid shares his journey from a rowdy kid on a soccer field to becoming a successful martial artist. Growing up in Hawaii, he faced unique challenges as a minority and had to overcome the limitations of being isolated from the mainland. He started with judo and later added wrestling to his repertoire. David's competitive mindset and determination led him to achieve success in both sports, winning state championships and making it to the finals of the Fargo Nationals. He ultimately chose to pursue wrestling in college, where he continued to build his confidence and compete at a higher level. In this conversation, David shares his journey as an athlete, transitioning from wrestling to judo and jiu-jitsu. He discusses his college wrestling career, including becoming an All-American. David also talks about adopting a pro mindset and working with a sports psychologist to improve his mental game. He then explains his decision to return to judo and his goal of representing the U.S. in the Olympics. David reflects on the challenges and rewards of competing in judo and jiu-jitsu, and his determination to continue competing regardless of the outcome.Chapters00:00 Introduction and Early Martial Arts Experience03:36 Growing Up in Hawaii07:49 Getting Started in Judo10:15 Transition to Wrestling15:24 Training with Sibling Rivalry18:54 Takeaways from Training Partner23:21 High School Wrestling Career29:23 Transition to College Wrestling32:37 Balancing Judo and Wrestling34:04 Building Confidence and Success38:14 Transitioning to College Athletics39:08 Becoming an All-American in Wrestling42:21 Adopting a Pro Mindset45:23 Working with a Sports Psychologist47:49 Transitioning to Judo53:29 Winning a Jiu-Jitsu World Championship56:21 Being Present in the Moment59:49 Representing the U.S. in Judo01:04:35 Qualifying for the Olympics01:10:50 Continuing to Compete in Judo

What kind of a reaction should you expect when you disrespect women?  Why is Basic Training so full of shenanigans?  What happens when a young Army Soldier gives in to his intrusive thoughts?  Find out, the answers to these questions and more on this weeks "sode" of The Cammo Comedy Show Podcast! If you have any funny military stories of your own that you would like to share, drop us a line at:stories@cammocomedy.com  or  Leave a voicemail at (531) 222-6146  Sadly, the voicemail will only record in 2 minute blocksWe are here to make you laugh, but behind this there is the imbedded philosophy of, "No One Left Behind." Sadly, 22 vets per day commit suicide, approximately 67,500 vets are homeless and thousands struggle with everyday life after service.  What we hope to accomplish is providing a fun place to gather that will have a similar feel to the conversations that happen at the VFW or American Legion between vets.  Since the latest generations of vets are not really going to these places anymore, we are making it happen online.  We believe that the sense of community will help some who struggle, while providing stories about the good times that we can all laugh at!An additional part of this show is capturing the oral history of the military over the past few decades, so if you happen to know a veteran who served during WW2, Korean War or Vietnam eras, we would love to hear from them.  Obviously, we want to hear stories from all eras, but we have special respect for the older generations.

In this episode there is many key messages but none stronger than the importance of balance in a life which is so packed with one passion. I am sure we all have heard of Wetherspoons, well interestingly Lucy also worked alongside training at Wetherspoons and the reasoning for why is something I believe many other athletes should as well follow.Enjoy this podcast as much as I enjoyed doing it because it its brilliant.
