In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes seven through ten of Ooku: The Inner Chambers. In episode seven, Sutezo's profound love for his daughter tugs heartstrings. Arikoto's and Sutezo's first time meeting is uncomfortable to say the least. It is heartbreaking to see Arikoto's rage and depression after everything he's been through. In episode eight - Gyokuei, more like Gyoku-gay, am I right? There's something very funny about Iemistu and Gyokeui getting it on for Arikoto's sake. In episode nine, neither Chika nor Giana attempt to sugar coat the way they are ROOTING for Kasuga's impending death. Sutezo's passing was a devastating situation all around. In episode ten, the loose ties and unanswered questions leave much to be desired with the finale of Ooku: The Inner Chambers. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Rachel the Shoujo Scholar review episodes four through six of Ooku: The Inner Chambers. In episode four, you can tell by the tone of our Floats Your Boat that this episode was going to hurt us deeply. Waka Murasaki meets a terrible fate, forcing Giana to hate Gyokuei with no hope for redemption. Rachel points out the interesting role reversal between Arikoto and Iemitsu. In episode five, Arikoto provides the ultimate fan service for bi individuals everywhere. Chika makes an interesting connection between Arikoto's switch in devotion from Buddha to Iemitsu with cults. The question is raised: Why hasn't Iemitsu simply killed Kasuga? Iemitsu's painful past stirs up empathy for her. In episode six, Kasuga's state of health brightens everyone's spirits. Sutezo's arrival shakes things up for Arikoto and Iemitsu. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Colleen of Colleen's Manga Recs review episodes one through three of Ooku: The Inner Chambers. In episode one, Mizuno's story is a mesmerizing one to follow. Yoshimune's approach as Shogun is praised. The darkness woven throughout the Ooku is both intriguing and disturbing. In episode two, we meet the sweet and responsible Arikoto, whose life is forever changed upon “visiting” the Ooku. We also meet Lady Kasuga, who makes a permanent home in Hot Fudge after forcing Arikoto to stay at the Ooku by literally any means possible. In episode three, we learn more about Iemistu and Arikoto's life at the Ooku. Iemitsu's gift of a white cat to Arikoto at the end of the episode stirs up some both serious and extremely unserious Sprinkles on Top. Gyokuei's character is lightly analyzed and Kasuga is roasted yet again. Grab your spoons, and let's dig in! This week is a single topic for once, we're talking all things Ooku The Inner Chambers. This is a new title coming to us in Netflix based pretty faithfully on the popular manga by the same name. It's a historical drama but with a pretty major caveat that really asks a lot of great questions. With 10 episodes covering roughly half the manga's story we've got a solid look at what if gender roles were reversed in feudal Japan. It's a really interesting idea that's presented pretty beautifully, so we're giving you our honest opinions on the series as a whole, things we found most effective and maybe a couple of things we were unsure about as well. If you're looking for your next historical drama, this episode might be able to point you in the right direction. Power Rankings live @tjapod on instagram

The 2023 Summer Anime season is finally here and there's plenty to talk about as always - but we have a Big Old Asterix hanging over this episode! We originally recorded a whole episode with Keiralee a week before this, and something went wrong with our recording of just Aaron's mic!Without it, the episode made little sense so we opted to re-record with Aaron and Kyle and include Kieralee's comments that we scavenged from the previous version as she was not able to make it for the re-recording.So please bear with Kyle and Aaron as they guide our way through this years picks from the team - along with the usual silliness and jabbering on that happens when these two are left without supervision!VIDEOS!Kawaii-Fi YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/KawaiiFiTifa's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thetkennedySUPPORT USPatreon: Patreon.com/KawaiiFiBuy us a Coffee: Ko-fi.com/kawaiifiJOIN THE KAWAII-FI COMMUNITYTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kawaiifianimeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/kawaiifianime/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KawaiiFiAnime/Twitter: https://twitter.com/kawaiifianimeDiscord: https://discord.gg/p9ccFx8vTQLISTEN ELSEWHERE?Smart Link: https://link.chtbl.com/KawaiiFiSpotify: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiSpotifyApple: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiAppleGoogle: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiGoogleEPISODE SEGMENTS00:00:00 – Show Opener00:06:00 – Summer 2023 Anime Season!00:56:27 – Season in Review: Spring 202301:15:08 – Anime Communique01:29:10 – Show OutroTags:anime, podcast, anime news, anime podcast, anime reviews, anime recommendation,Reborn As A Vending Machine,Helck,My Happy Marriage,My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1,Jujutsu Kaisen,The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today,Ooku: The Inner Chambers,Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War,The Great Cleric,Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead,Mashle,Oshi No Ko,Tengoku Daimakyo,Why Raelina ended up at the Dukes Mansion,The Ancient Magus's Bride,2023 Anime,2023 Summer Anime
Ōoku: The Inner Chambers is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fumi Yoshinaga. It was serialized in Hakusensha's manga magazine Melody from June 2004 to December 2020, with its chapters collected in 19 tankōbon volumes. The manga is licensed in North America by Viz Media. NETFLIX MADE AN ANIME SERIES OF THE MANGA. In Edo period Japan (1603 to 1868), a strange new disease called the Redface Pox has begun to prey on the country's men. Within eighty years of the first outbreak, the male population has fallen to a quarter of the total female population. Women have taken on all the roles traditionally granted to men, even that of the Shogun. The men, precious providers of life, are carefully protected and the most beautiful of the men are sent to serve in the Shogun's Inner Chambers. This show was really unique—definitely not your average anime. If you are into Japanese culture and traditions, you'll like this show. If you are looking for your classic Isekai, sorry, this is probably not the right show for youThis story takes place in the Edo period where gender roles are reversed and women outnumber men 4 to 1 due to a deadly pandemic called the Redface Pox which only affects young men. Within 80 years one fourth of the men's population is wiped out, women essentially run the country and men have no choice but to sell themselves in order to be able to make a living. Traditional families are a thing of the past and marriage is considered a luxury only the rich can hope to partake in. The story mainly focuses on the female shogun of Edo castle and the lives of the hundreds of men within it's inner chamber ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

There's a lot of pain in Fumi Yoshinaga's alternate-history epic about a shogun matriarchy, but it's all worth it in the end.
This month we're spotlighting Gee's favourite mangaka: Fumi Yoshinaga!! From her humble beginnings as a BL artist, to the critically acclaimed Ooku: The Inner Chambers, All My Darling Daughters and What Did You Eat Yesterday?, Yoshinaga has spent her career writing beautifully imperfect characters, struggling, surviving and thriving in their lives. With her adoration of food, love of historical settings, and biting wit, there's a lot to love with her work. So join us as we discuss the many, many wonderful stories Yoshinaga has shared.
