Optavia has been popping up in conversation a lot lately, and so I knew it was something I needed to address. But is the Optavia diet really worth it? And does it work? You'll have to listen to find out. But also, I'm just going to let you know now, this is not a clean episode. As in, I found it really hard to go through this information without getting SUPER heated about all of the nonsense that companies like Optavia are spewing. In this episode, I go DEEP into: - what the Optavia diet consists of - the ridiculousness of Optavia snack choices - why you should never trust an Optavia coach - why not all research is GOOD research - why it's never a good idea to put a teenager on a diet ... and more! In preparation for Ashleigh’s upcoming second cookbook all about protein-forward recipes, she interviews chef, butcher, entrepreneur, author, and educator Ryan Farr about some basic rules and mistakes folks make in the kitchen when it comes to preparing, cutting, handling, and cooking meat. This super practical episode is a must-listen for any amateur chef and meat-lover who wants to get the most out of their cooking. The two cover ideal equipment and utensils; biggest mistakes many at-home chefs make; questions to ask your butcher, and much more. Ryan is the founder of San Francisco’s 4505 Meats, an artisan whole-animal meat company devoted to sustainable practices (and making delicious chicharrons and other tasty products!) He started 4505 Burgers and BBQ, opened a butchershop, and authored two books: Whole Beast Butchery: The Complete Visual Guide to Beef, Lamb, and Pork and Sausage Making: The Definitive Guide. Don’t forget Ashleigh already has a meat-based cookbook out: It Takes Guts is a meat-eater’s guide to cooking, eating, and enjoying organ meats and it’s available wherever books are sold! If you care about immune health and nutrient density as much as I do, you’ll want to give my new partner, Organifi, a try. The makers of a line of superfood blends that are low in sugar and high in nutrition, I love their Organifi Red Juice the best - it’s loaded with veggie and fruit-derived antioxidants and adaptogens like cordyceps, reishi, and rhodiola, so I can get all these superfoods in one convenient, tasty place (and save more room in my belly for steak). Coaching is big business - perhaps even more so now, when our options for going to the gym and working out can be more limited. As a professional in the health and fitness industry for more than a decade, Ashleigh has worked as a coach and has experience as a client; she’s also worked with, observed, interviewed, and learned from some of the top coaches in the industry. When a coaching experience doesn’t go well, it’s easy to chalk it up to an unmotivated client, or a crappy coach - sometimes this is true, but more often it boils down to miscommunication and unclear goals. A coach/client relationship requires understanding, open-mindedness, respect, and communication (just like every relationship) but often we don’t focus on this; instead we focus on how much money we’re spending, how fit the coach looks, and how long this “getting healthy” process will take. In this episode, Ashleigh breaks down what she sees as the biggest “failures” of both coaches and clients, and how she thinks we can improve the culture and understanding and approach to coaching to improve outcomes and create healthier, happier people. You can learn more about Ashleigh’s coaching services at ashleighvanhouten.com, or https://www.volv.ai/channels/-12/musclemaven TIMESTAMPS: [08:33] - Part 1: The problem with coaches [34:41] - Part 2: The problem with clients [1:02:17] - Part 3: How to fix the client/coach relationship If you care about immune health and nutrient density as much as I do, you’ll want to give my new partner, Organifi, a try. It’s finally here! Ashleigh has teamed up with nutritionist and coach Rachel Gregory to develop the Muscle Science for Women program, a three-month course on the theory and application of strength and muscle building that begins in April. In this episode, Ashleigh and Rachel talk in-depth about the scope of the course; what they will cover, what participants will gain and learn, and some of the key challenges and sticking points for women who are looking to change body composition and improve strength and performance. Real, sustainable progress and change is made possible when individuals invest in truly learning a subject, rather than blindly following someone else’s plan, and this program will equip participants with the research, science, resources, support, and practical tools to improve their health through nutrition, training, and mindset. Amanda Carneiro is a personal trainer, fitness nutritionist, and holistic nutritionist specializing in gut health and fat loss (which are often closely linked). She works one-on-one with remote clients and also offers fantastic online courses on Gut Health and Fat Loss specifically. In this episode, Ashleigh and Amanda talk about the links between stress, gut health, digestion, mental health, and more; how Amanda works with clients to uncover the root cause of gut health issues, which can be complex and multi-layered; and why striving for resilience and flexibility is more sustainable than seeking out the “perfect diet.” Find out more about Amanda’s gut health and fat loss courses and working one-one-one with her through her website, rawfitnessandnutrition.com. Having a bad day? Feeling frustrated and annoyed with life? Things not going your way? Listen to this podcast and prepare to have your perspective drastically changed. Callie Russell is a survival expert, ancestral skills instructor, hunter, goat herder, and true renaissance woman. She came into the public eye when she became the runner up for groundbreaking reality Show Alone, Season 7, spending 72 days on her own in the Canadian Artic, surviving with only 10 tools she brought along and her own wits. Throughout the course of her time on the show, she demonstrated a level of competence and understanding and respect for nature that is truly awe-inspiring (even if it is our natural tendency, it’s something most of us have grown away from in the modern world). Her perspectives on connecting with nature, killing animals for food, feeling gratitude in the toughest moments, and learning and smiling through everything - these are lessons we can all learn from her story, whether we plan to become survival experts or not. She also shares her story of going from a vegetarian to a professional hunter; how life-changing tragedy in her childhood shaped her adult perspective; and tons of behind-the-scenes insider knowledge about what it’s like to be on Alone, like how you recover and reintegrate back into society, her friendships with other contestants, and what she missed most while she was out in the wilderness. This episode is for you if you’ve been struggling with feeling spun out or paralyzed (or even both!) by life’s circumstances. Today I’m delving deep into intuition, energy medicine, personal power, and how this all relates to my “witchier side.” I talk a lot about the solar plexus and all the ways it manifests in our lives, how it feels to be out of balance with it, and ways you can harness your own unique energy to step into your power and regain a sense of control with your health - and in your life. In this episode: How I got into what I call “energy medicine” [10:52] How energy medicine shows up in my work [16:44] “The fluff” and why I felt the need to branch off in a different way with energy medicine [17:11] Why I rejected the term “healer” in the past and the role personal responsibility plays in my practice [19:44] Intuition: what it is, what it’s not, and how to better recognize intuitive signals to help make decisions for yourself [26:01] Quick breakdown of the chakras, your solar plexus, and how it relates to your personal power [35:44] Diving into how your 3rd chakra energy allows you to show up in the world, and both the mental & physical the struggles that come when it’s out of balance [37:52] Control, powerlessness, and the particular relevance of the solar plexus in the healthcare world right now [40:23] What’s crippling some people (and throwing others into overdrive) and why this is SO important to understand in order to heal [43:05] The two patterns I’ve seen emerge in people’s response to 2020 and how it all ties to either an excess or deficiency in your 3rd chakra [44:31] Ways to heal yourself and bring balance back to your solar plexus [50:21] Harnessing your “Good girl gone bad” energy, what it means to fill your cup, and healing a deficient 3rd chakra [55:54] Bringing back into balance a 3rd chakra in excess (an ongoing practice for me!) and ways to disperse all that energy [1:01:38] Evaluating technology use and what it means for an excessive or deficient 3rd chakra [1:06:46] In the moment things to do for your 3rd chakra [1:10:45] “We cannot change the world if we have not yet individuated from the way the world expects us to be.” Anodea Judith Resources Mentioned in this episode: Organifi Red Juice (enter code FUNK for 15% off) https://www.organifishop.com/products/organifi-red-juice Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System As a Path to the Self https://amzn.to/3hQKmTA Wheels of Life: A User's Guide to the Chakra System (Llewellyn's New Age) https://amzn.to/3choAat Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing https://amzn.to/3mFhMrM Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UW5X4C/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i1 Guided Meditation for Uncertain Times https://www.erinholthealth.com/erin-holt-health-1/2020/3/19/a-guided-meditation-for-uncertain-times Guided meditation for Balance & Self Healing https://www.erinholthealth.com/erin-holt-health-1/meditation-for-balance Related pods: Episode 111: Sh*t We Don't Talk About (Good Girls Gone Bad) https://www.erinholthealth.com/funktional-nutrition-podcast/2020/8/5/episode-111-sht-we-dont-talk-about-good-girls-gone-bad Episode 109: Human Design with Aycee Brown https://www.erinholthealth.com/funktional-nutrition-podcast/2020/7/16/episode-109-human-design-with-aycee-brown Go beyond: Follow Erin on Insta https://www.instagram.com/the.funktional.nutritionist/ Your Hormone Revival https://www.erinholthealth.com/hormones Eat to Achieve https://www.erinholthealth.com/eat-to-achieve
bengreenfieldfitness.com/biocharge My guests on today's show are Jim Girard and Jim Law. These two Jims are the masterminds behind something called the "", a crazy new biohacking device I've been using for "recipes" such as sleep onset, relaxation, athletic recovery, nitric oxide production, headache clearing, "5 hour energy", immune system boosting and much more. The BioCharger utilizes four different energy types – Light, Voltage, Frequencies & Harmonics, and Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Fields (PEMFs). Turns out Tony Robbins is a huge fan of this thing and uses it at all his events, and a host of biohackers I know seem to be incredibly excited about it and use it nearly every day, so I finally decided to try a Biocharger out for myself and interview the inventors on today's show. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What is the BioCharger, and what it does for those who use it...11:00 -The technologies used in the BioCharger...17:55 -The best way to absorb the light from the device...39:05 -The effect of the BioCharger on various parts of the body...44:15 -Whether other biohacks can be "stacked" with the BioCharger...53:54 -How the device affects pets, children and cell phones...57:20 -The most popular recipes of BioCharger customers...1:03:30 -Whether it's possible to overuse the BioCharger...1:08:10 Episode sponsors: Kion Lean, Organifi Red Juice, Beekeepers Naturals, Four Sigmatic bengreenfieldfitness.com/biocharge

Power Quotes From The Show "Once you get everything that you want, you realize that it's such a small piece of the whole entire picture. I want as many as people as possible to wake up and recognize their own greatness." - @drewcanole on @wellnessforce Radio episode 235 wellnessforce.com/235 "When you make the conscious act every day to supply yourself with the highest quality nutritious, organic superfoods that have been clinically tested to legitimately lower your stress, reduce depression, increase your energy, improve your mood, and do all of these absolutely amazing things for the human body, it just changes you." - Drew Canole "If I am part of divinity and a pencil in the hand of God plus know that God is constantly expanding in the constant universe, rippling out then my natural ability to expand co-exists with what that is. The big bang is inside of me so my ability to be open is really my ability to hook to the infinity that's within me. That's the greatest secret of all because once you have access to that and it's not about you, your dream life is there and divine synchronicity starts to happen. God or the universe is using us consistently but we have to be open to it." - Drew Canole "Put your faith out there and just be you; don't try to change yourself in order to sell more products because that's not going to be fun. You're going to get to the end of your life and you'll have all this money but if you lose yourself in the process of making money, that's not a life worth living. You just want to become more of who you are and you want the world to pay attention and buy that." - Drew Canole "Soul mapping is really turning inwards, getting deep within yourself, and recognizing the patterns in our lives. When you look back far enough on your life, you'll see this red thread of patterns of your soul's choices. Once you get to that point, you're much more equipped to make choices from your soul in the future. A lot of times, we make choices from our mind but if you can start to make choices from your heart and soul, your purpose and desire for what you want to create on this planet really start to enlarge." - Drew Canole Links From Today's Show Drew Canole Facebook Twitter Instagram Organifi FitLifeTV YouTube Facebook Pinterest You Be You WFR 078 Drew Canole: Self Love, Juicing, & Transformation FitLifeTV Alpha Reset Wayne Dyer Jim Fortin The Joel S.
