The guys also discuss muscle building and fat loss, the relationship between science and real-world coaching experience, red light therapy, the growing importance of community and social connection, big-wave surfing, and more. Is getting lighter always the answer for runners chasing faster race times? Matt Fox is joined by Dr David Lipman for a short, sharp discussion about weight loss, performance, RED-S and the risks of taking leanness too far. Although reducing excess body fat may improve running economy and performance, there is a lower limit where continued weight loss can begin to compromise health, recovery and long-term performance. Matt shares his own experience of becoming faster after losing weight, while David explains why the human body cannot be treated like a simple machine. Some body fat may provide an important energy buffer because the absorption and use of fuel can vary between athletes and from day to day. They examine Ryan Hall's experience as a cautionary example. Hall initially improved while becoming extremely lean, but his performance and health eventually declined after taking the process too far. This temporary improvement can create a dangerous "more is better" mindset, where athletes continue restricting food because the early results appear positive. The conversation also breaks down Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, commonly known as RED-S. Rather than viewing RED-S as the result of one isolated mistake, David describes it using a stress bucket model. Training load, inadequate fueling, poor sleep, work pressure and other life stressors can accumulate until the athlete's ability to recover is overwhelmed. Matt and David discuss carbohydrate periodization and carb cycling, including when lower-carbohydrate training may have a place within an endurance program. However, they stress that these strategies do not eliminate the risks of chronic under-fueling. Athletes still require adequate carbohydrates, protein and dietary fat to support performance, recovery and overall health. They also cover behaviours associated with disordered eating, the spectrum between structured nutrition and unhealthy restriction, whether runners should deliberately lose muscle mass, and the difficult tradeoffs that can exist between short-term performance and long-term health. Race Weight and Carb Cycling: Losing Weight to Get Faster Without Sacrificing Key Workouts Welcome back to another short, sharp sub 15-minute episode. Today, I discuss the relationship between race weight and endurance performance, using examples including Josh Kerr, the new mile world record holder, Comrades Marathon winner George Kusche, and Olympic triathlon champion Kristian Blummenfelt. I explain how losing weight has helped me improve my own marathon time from 2:35 to 2:18, while also addressing the risks of aggressive dieting and underfueling. This episode is not intended for anyone with a history of eating disorders, and I am sharing my personal experience rather than professional nutritional advice. I break down how I use a moderate calorie deficit on most days while carb cycling around important workouts. The goal is to fuel heavily with carbohydrates for approximately 12 hours before and three hours after key sessions, then return to lower-calorie, filling foods during easier periods. In this listener Q&A episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling tackle the real questions the fasting for life community has been asking, starting with an inspiring update from a longtime listener whose carnivore and OMAD lifestyle has kept him medication-free for years. They dig into whether flavored seltzers and electrolyte drinks break a fast, making the case for flexibility over rigid perfectionism as long as consistency stays the priority. The conversation shifts to extended multi-day fasts, with the hosts sharing how they personally use longer resets a couple times a year for the mental and metabolic benefits, while stressing that the real fat loss progress comes from consistent shorter fasting windows. They also offer guidance for postmenopausal women looking to get back into resistance training, pointing toward beginner-friendly strength programs and reminding listeners that the best routine is the one they'll actually enjoy and stick with. The episode wraps with an honest conversation about carb cravings, explaining why certain foods trigger loss of control and how a flexible, protein-first approach can help listeners stop viewing carbs as off-limits forever. As always, the takeaway is the same: progress comes from sustainable habits, not all-or-nothing rules. Take the NEW FASTING PERSONA QUIZ! - The Key to Unlocking Sustainable Weight Loss With Fasting! Will carb cycling actually help you lose fat faster? In today's episode, I'm answering a question from a listener named Haley, who's down to her last few pounds and wondering whether carb cycling could help accelerate fat loss and body recomposition. When you've already built solid habits and feel like you're doing everything right, it's natural to wonder if a more advanced nutrition strategy could help you see results faster. In this episode, I break down what carb cycling is, whether the research supports it as a fat loss tool, and how carbohydrate timing can affect workouts, recovery, and body composition. We'll discuss when carb cycling may be beneficial, why it's often misunderstood, and the biggest mistake women make when assuming a more complicated nutrition approach will automatically lead to better results. Tune in to learn whether carb cycling is worth considering, or whether your efforts are better spent focusing on the fundamentals that drive long-term success. In this episode of Life Rewired, Kristina breaks down one of the most underutilized nutrition strategies for women who want to lose fat without feeling like they are constantly restricting. She explains the difference between calorie cycling and carb cycling, how each one works physiologically, and why varying your intake across the week is far more effective and sustainable than eating the same number of calories every single day. Kristina walks through the science behind metabolic adaptation, leptin, insulin sensitivity, and hormonal health in a way that is easy to understand and actually apply to real life.Kristina also digs into the specific benefits of this approach for women, from protecting performance in the gym and supporting hormonal balance, to building the kind of flexibility that makes a nutrition plan something you can actually stick to long term. She shares her own personal experience with cycling her intake and how matching her food to her actual output changed everything for her energy, her workouts, and her results. Whether you are brand new to tracking macros or you have been in the nutrition game for years and feel like you have hit a wall, this episode gives you a fresh framework to work with.APPLY FOR 1:1 COACHING:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1srFPBIhQwnCw8uJ3qf-wjTDG-df62gM8hzfJkNwaJW4/preview BALANCED BLUEPRINT MEMBERSHIP:https://builtgroupcoaching.my.canva.site/balancedblueprintmembershipB&B NEWSLETTER/FREE FAT LOSS MASTERCLASS:https://builtandbalanced.kit.com/dd0f3197ccKRIS IG:https://www.instagram.com/kristinaturnure/?hl=enTHE BLUEPRINT FOUNDATIONS COURSE:https://stan.store/KrisTurnure/p/the-blueprint-courseLIFE REWIRED IG:https://www.instagram.com/LIFEREWIREDPODCAST/?utm_medium=copy_linkNASH BARS:https://nashnutrition.co/PTULA: DISCOUNT CODE KRISTINAT https://www.ptula.com/TRANSPARENT LABS: CODE KRISTINA https://athlete.transparentlabs.com/kristinaturnure
In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I'm on the road and sit down with strength coach Martin Silva to talk about how to improve body composition, performance, and long-term health, especially for high-achieving clients in the 35–60 range. We get into unlearning a lot of the nutrition beliefs people bring in, why I still like keeping nutrition simple, higher protein, fewer ultra-processed foods, and how short-term tracking can build awareness without becoming a crutch. Martin also walks through how he structures coaching check-ins, his own background going from bodybuilding and restriction to a more health and strength-focused approach, and what actually works in the real world. We also cover programming, including full body vs upper/lower splits, single-leg work, squat and deadlift variations (I'm a fan of the trap/hex bar here), mobility priming, and how to monitor technique even when coaching online. Plus, we dig into stress, sleep, managing distractions (your phone is probably not helping), and a few rapid-fire tips—including “never miss twice.” Sponsors: Daily Fitness Insider Newsletter: https://flex-diet.kit.com/bfa1510fa8 Available now: Grab a copy of the Triphasic Training II book I co-wrote with Cal Deitz here. Switching up your carbs for a few weeks can be a good idea — but carbs aren't out here doing all the work alone. This isn't a solo act, it's a party — and what's a party without a little movement on the dance floor? That's right, you need exercise too.Think of it like planning a great party: carbs are the guests, protein is the DJ, fat is the sound system and your attention to what you're eating is the nosy neighbor watching through the blinds. On low-carb days, something else has to change — maybe you move more, maybe you cry a little. Who knows? But it all has to come together. At the end of the day, it's really just another sneaky way to get you to pay attention to what's on your plate instead of just what's on Netflix.Products Mentioned: Raw Sugar Clarifying Shampoo0:26 - Story Time7:26 - Review of Call to Action10:32 - What we love14:13 - Carb Cycling39:30 - New Call to Action

On this episode of Crazy Wisdom, Stewart Alsop talks with Larry Diamond, co-founder of Healing with the Diamonds, about his journey from severe metabolic illness to vibrant health and his work helping others do the same. They explore topics like heart-brain coherence, the alchemical journey, insulin resistance, seed oils, and the deeper spiritual dimensions of healing, weaving in references to David Hawkins, Rupert Sheldrake, and the lost wisdom of the divine feminine. Larry shares insights on metabolic testing, ancestral eating, and the importance of authentic living, while also touching on the role of parasites—his term for the forces keeping humanity in fear and incoherence. You can find more about Larry and his work, as well as access his consulting, at healingwiththediamonds.com, on Instagram and Facebook at Healing with the Diamonds, or listen in iTunes to his upcoming podcast.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversationTimestamps00:00 Stewart Alsop introduces Larry Diamond of Healing with the Diamonds; they discuss his healing journey, health coaching, and the meaning of heart-brain coherence.05:00 Alchemical journey, crystals, the hero's journey, integrating masculine and feminine energies, and the idea of parasites feeding on fear.10:00 Kindness vs niceness, morphic fields, Rupert Sheldrake's theories, and quantum entanglement as evidence of interconnectedness.15:00 Scientism vs true science, metabolic illness, citizen science, Larry's 2013 health transformation.20:00 Metabolic syndrome, C-reactive protein, fasting insulin, insulin resistance, and Larry's weight loss story.25:00 Seed oils, refined carbs, ultra-processed foods, and strategies for restoring metabolic health.30:00 Carb cycling, primal eating, intuitive healing, and ancestral wisdom.35:00 Spirituality beyond religion, Yeshua vs Jesus, divine feminine, and writing your own gospel.40:00 Living authentically, kindness in daily life, and finding healing in sovereignty and connection.Key InsightsLarry Diamond shares how his journey from severe metabolic illness to vibrant health became the foundation for Healing with the Diamonds. He explains how hitting rock bottom in 2013 inspired him to reject mainstream dietary advice and embrace a primal, whole foods approach that reversed his insulin resistance and helped him lose over 100 pounds.A major theme of the conversation is heart-brain coherence, which Larry describes as essential for true wisdom and discernment. He connects this to ancient teachings, referencing Yeshua's “sword of discernment” and suggesting that Western culture intentionally suppressed this knowledge to keep people in fear and mental fragmentation. The episode explores the alchemical journey as a metaphor for inner transformation, likening it to Joseph Campbell's hero's journey. Larry emphasizes integrating masculine and feminine energies and overcoming ego as key steps in remembering our divine nature and embodying authenticity.Larry critiques scientism, which he calls the inversion of true science, and encourages listeners to reclaim citizen science as a path to health sovereignty. He shares practical tools like testing for C-reactive protein, A1C, fasting insulin, and using triglycerides-to-HDL ratios to assess metabolic health. He identifies the “Big Four” dietary culprits—seed oils, refined carbs, ultra-processed foods, and sugar—as drivers of chronic illness and advocates returning to ancestral foods rich in natural fats and nutrients. He stresses that flavor and enjoyment are critical for sustainable healing. On the spiritual side, Larry reframes the Abrahamic religions as distortions of deeper wisdom traditions, contrasting the figure of Yeshua (aligned with love and sovereignty) with the institutionalized Jesus narrative. He highlights the divine feminine, Sophia, as a source of intuition and co-creation with the cosmos. Finally, Larry encourages listeners to “write your own gospel and live your own myth,” seeing authentic, kind, and sovereign living as both a spiritual and practical act of resistance to what he calls the parasite class—forces of fear and manipulation seeking to block human awakening.
