It turned out to be pretty good podcast episode even though both participants have ailments that rendered them much less than 100%. We started talking about the semi-finals in both NBA conferences as three of the series are tied at two games each. The third series between Golden State and Memphis was just getting underway as we were finishing the episode. Big comebacks from 2 games to nothing down by Philly tying their matchup with Miami. The Dallas Mavericks deadlocked their series at two with the top seeded Phoenix Suns. The Boston Celtics took a big win in game four of their battle with the Milwaukee Bucks to knot it up at two games apiece as we were recording this podcast. Our conversation shifted to the UFC 274 and the good, bad and the ugly of this weekends card in Phoenix, Arizona. Jason wanted to get the ugly out of the way off the start. The co-main event was a terrible fight with no entertainment value to speak of. Rose Namajunas came in as the Champion of the Women's Strawweight division and was trying to avenge a defeat to Carla Esparza 8 years prior. It was an absolute no show by Rose and almost the same for Esparza who recaptured the belt after losing it 2,612 days before. The next longest days between title reigns was Frank Mir who went 1,234 days in between. It was ugly and not worth our time. Speaking of ugly the fight between two old guys in Ovince St Preux and Shogun Rua seemed to make you question if both guys still had enough to continue fighting in the UFC it was ugly. We discussed the good with big wins by Charles Olivera and Michael Chandler who both currently occupy the lightweight division. The bad was that even though Charles Olivera was the champ of the weight class and won he walked out of the cage without the belt because he missed weight and now the title is vacant. The other good and one of the highlights of the night is the announcement of Daniel Cormier getting a Hall of Fame spot and it led to tears and for once a speechless DC. At the same time the UFC was holding their card the boxing world had their top pound for pound fighter on the planet moving up in weight and taking on the champ at Light Heavyweight. Canelo Alvarez came into this bout with a 57-1-2 record and was considered the best boxer in the world. Dmitri Bivol put his belts on the line and tried to preserve his undefeated record that sat at 19-0. Canelo was the much smaller fighter and it was too much for him but was a huge upset in the combat sports universe. It looks like a trilogy fight between him and Triple G will now have to wait and it looks like a rematch clause will be invoked. This fight sent shockwaves through the world of boxing and will be interesting to see a rematch in the near future. St. Preux was born in Immokalee, Florida, to Haitian immigrant parents. He was a star-athlete in high-school as he excelled in multiple sports such as football, track, and wrestling. C'est à vrai dire la seule affiche de cette carte asiatique assez décevante sur le papier. Tout le gala reposait sur ce matchup et c'est une nouvelle fois assez regrettable. Certes, nous avions en co-main event le duel entre Ovince St-Preux et Tyson Pedro mais la carte principale comportait seulement combats et quand on sait que les deux autres étaient Eye/Clark et Jingliang/Abe, cela donne une idée des choses. Il n'empêche que nous vous faisons un condensé rapide de ce qu'il s'est passé à Singapour avant d'attaquer le gros morceau du mois de Juillet: l'UFC Fight Week. En effet, les 6 et 7 juillet, l'UFC nous proposera sa désormais traditionnelle double carte en 48 heures avec la finale du TUF 27 et l'UFC 226. Autant la première se résumera principalement au combat Israel Adesanya vs Brad Tavares (opposition intéressante), autant le PPV du lendemain est assez épais en terme de matchmaking. Octogon n°232 - De l'UFC Japan à l'UFC 216 Cet Octogon n°232 vous résume tout ce qu'il s'est passé cette semaine et ce qu'il se passera aussi le 08 octobre lors de l'UFC 216. Les news de la semaine ne sont pas très nombreuses et on en profite donc pour vous remémorer une "séquence souvenirs" consacrée à Georges Saint-Pierre lors des UFC 69 et 83. Son double duel contre Matt Serra reste dans les mémoires et nous vous narrons les fightcards de l'époque. Nous vous faisons ensuite un focus sur ce qu'il s'est passé au Saitama Super Arena de Tokyo. L'UFC Japan s'y tenait dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi et la main card a relativement bien délivré. Une des grandes attractions de la soirée était les débuts de l'ancien champion du Glory, le Turc Gokhan Saki, qui était opposé au Brésilien Henrique Da Silva. Ce dernier avait annoncé qu'il mettrait son adversaire KO et qu'il n'avait pas peur d'échanger débout avec lui. Le plus effrayant est qu'il l'a fait et que des éclairs ont jailli de cette opposition. Claudia Gadelha et Jessica Andrade nous ont offert le combat de la soirée  avec un duel dantesque. En main event, Ovince St-Preux prenait Yushin Okami qui remplaçait Shogun Rua (blessé au genou il y a 8 jours) en short notice. Là encore les choses n'ont pas trainé.  Ensuite, nous vous proposons un coup d'oeil sur le PPV du 08/10 à savoir l'UFC 216. Tony Ferguson sera opposé à Kevin Lee pour le titre interim des 155 pounds (en attendant le retour de McGregor en 2018). L'animosité est déjà grande entre les deux athlètes et ça promet des étincelles.
