Ever wondered what drives an Olympic sprinter to the peak of their game? In this engaging episode, Baylor Barbee dives into the compelling story of Noah Lyles, an American Olympic sprinter whose journey to gold is as inspiring as it is instructive. With vivid insights and lessons from Lyles' recent 100 meters men's finals at the Olympics, Barbee illustrates the crucial line between confidence and cockiness, the importance of respecting competition, and the power of a strong finish. In the first part of the episode, Baylor Barbee uses Noah Lyles as a springboard to discuss the essential elements of unwavering self-belief. Highlighting Lyles' spirited confidence and the minor setbacks he faced, Barbee underscores that confidence, when truly backed by effort and results, is transformative in any field. Barbee encourages listeners to cultivate that internal fire, emphasizing that true confidence is rooted in self-awareness and the hard work one puts into honing their craft. In the second half, Barbee turns focus to the broader implications and lessons from Lyles' race. From not underestimating competitors to the strategic importance of finishing strong, Baylor relates these points back to everyday life and business scenarios. He offers a compelling narrative on the significance of maintaining momentum and pushing through adversities—hallmark tactics that can propel one towards success, both personally and professionally. This episode wraps up on an invigorating note, urging listeners to push hard towards their goals and never relent until the finish line is crossed. Key Takeaways: Unwavering Self-Belief: Confidence should be built on genuine self-awareness and hard work, not arrogance. Respect for Competition: Never underestimate your rivals; always maintain a healthy respect for their capabilities. Importance of Finishing Strong: The way you finish is often more critical than how you start; focus on building end-year momentum. Persistence Pays Off: Success can come down to the tiny margins; keep pushing till the very end. Learning from Setbacks: View early stumbles as opportunities to reassess and push harder. Notable Quotes: "You have to have an unwavering belief in yourself." – Baylor Barbee "Cocky is saying something you know is not true; true confidence is backed by effort and results." – Baylor Barbee "Don't make the mistake of losing out on your proverbial gold medal all because you underestimated the other guy." – Baylor Barbee "It's not over until you actually cross the finish line." – Baylor Barbee "Build on the momentum that we create through our actions right now so that we can finish strong." – Baylor Barbee If you're looking to sharpen your mindset and achieve your goals, we've got you covered. Recent research indicates that almost 56% of male runners and 86% of female runners suffer from an iron deficiency that severely hampers performance. The problem with eating iron-rich foods or supplementing with traditional iron supplements is that iron is notoriously difficult for the body to absorb and utilize. In fact, only about 25% of dietary iron found in animal sources is absorbed while 17% or less of the iron from plant sources is absorbed. But MAS Iron has found a way to combat these absorption issues to ensure you can get the iron you need for health and performance. By combining the most efficiently absorbed form of elemental iron with clinically proven ingredients to aid in absorption, MAS Iron performs like no other iron product on the market. In fact, clinical research has shown the combination of ingredients in MAS Iron can quadruple absorption and increase bioavailability by 30%, all while reducing GI issues by 50%. Check out the research and the results for yourself at masedge.com/iron. Runnersconnect fans will automatically save 20% on any purchase. In this episode of A Runner's Life podcast, Corey, Phillip, Rob, and yours truly talk about stress management in our training, and uncover the deeper reasons behind why we run. No fluff, just real talk. We kick off with Rob's beauty updates, a segment that's quickly become a fan favourite. But this time, he's delivering a lesson we never knew we needed. Then, it's all about CJ's latest endeavour—the Jordan purchase before Tokyo. And of course, Phil's got his Jordans on the clutch, providing a YouTube-style review of the new Air Jordan (AJ) 3 Craft Ivory. We talk about the release of the new AJ4 Bred reimagined. Plus we give our reactions to the Olympic trials, including a shoutout to Sara Hall, we cover it all. Ever wondered what Eliud Kipchoge would be like if he weren't the Yoda of running? And he was just an American working full time trying to qualify for the American Olympic marathon trials? We explore that, along with sharing personal experiences like Rob ending up in the medical tent after emptying the tank. Stress management takes centre stage as Phil surprises us with an unexpectedly honest solution. We discuss how stress impacts our running and everyday lives, minus the scientific jargon. But it's not all serious talk. Phil shares a poignant story about finding his "why" in memory of a friend, reminding us of the deeper motivations that drive us forward. And finally, we discuss the significance of the Boston jacket—when it's appropriate wear and when it's just a flex. This week's episode it brought to you by PILLAR Performance. PILLAR is a sports micro-nutrition company, and I'm testing out a a few products in my build for the Boston and London marathon double. If you would like to try PILLAR today, head to www.pillarperformance.shop and you can get 15% off first time purchases with code MARCUS

We talk aimlessly about Greyson finally being licensed to drive in the state of Texas, Jacy’ and Steven’s recent run in with an American Olympic hero, how Twitter Blue has led to the collapse of Twitter itself plus a couple of countries in South America, and whatever else.
When Nikki Stone injured her back in 1996, the pain was so excruciating that she couldn't stand for more than 15 minutes at a time. Bedridden by her spine injury, Nikki was advised by 10 different doctors to give up on her dreams of Olympic gold as it was unlikely she would ever ski again. Two years later at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Nikki would go on to become the first American to win a gold medal as an inverted aerial skier, solidifying her future as a US National Ski Hall of Famer. Nikki's story is one of determination, grit, and a never give up attitude. Today, she encourages others to realize their passions, triumph over obstacles, and take risks to reach extraordinary goals. In this episode, Sylvia and Nikki discuss the turtle metaphor for doing hard things, what she called the Turtle Effect. They discuss what it was like to take big risks during the Olympic games, the importance of dreaming big when setting goals, why accomplishment does translate to happiness, and much more.Topics Include:- Early dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal- Working with fear as an athlete- Grandma's quote, "The brave do not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all." - Trying new things to stoke old passions- Connecting to childhood dreams- Using questions to steer your life- Becoming a mother- The truth about happiness- And other topics...Nicole 'Nikki' Stone is a former American Olympic skier. She also became the first pure aerialist ever, male or female, to become the year-long Overall Freestyle World Cup Champion. Nikki was inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame in 2003. Nikki now travels the world as an inspirational speaker sharing her secrets to success. Nikki was honored with the title of International Professional Speaker of the Year by the American Speakers Bureau Corporation. Beginning is tough. Kim Linehan was an American Olympic swimmer who, for 8 years, held the world record in the Women's 1500-meter freestyle. Competing at 18 years of age, Kim would do endless exercises and swam 7 to 12 miles a day. But when she was asked “what is the hardest part of your regimen?” she gave this reply: “getting in the water.” Getting in the water. Beginning is tough. Starting over—beginning again—is harder still. If I couldn't finish it the first time, why even try this time? One needs motivation to finish, and it just seem so lacking in situations like these. But Paul writes to a struggling church from prison and shares this remarkably inspiring word: “I'm confident of this…that the same God who began a good work within you is going to carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” The sermon today is titled "New Beginnings." The Scripture reading is from Philippians 1:6. Originally preached at the West Side Church of Christ (Searcy, AR) on August 7, 2022. These lessons fit under one of 5 broad categories: Begin, Discover, Grow, Learn, and Serve. This sermon is filed twice under Begin: A Faithful Presence & Begin: A Hopeful Renewal.Click here if you would like to watch the sermon or read a transcript.Links and Resources:This lesson was inspired by Billy Wilson's 2010 sermon titled "God Will Finish It."See the latest deep space images from the James Webb Space Telescope.I'd love to connect with you!Watch sermons and find transcripts at nathanguy.com.Follow along each Sunday through YouTube livestream and find a study guide and even kids notes on the sermon notes page.Follow me @nathanpguy (facebook/instagram/twitter/tiktok)Subscribe to my email newsletter on substack.---In partnership with:West Side Church of ChristLife on the West Side: Nathan's Weekly Substack

The Boys were reluctantly monitoring the opening ceremony for this year's Olympics, and China trotted out a Uyghur muslim, while NBC helped deliver the narrative. Chinese authorities remove a Dutch journalist during a report, and an AP reporter takes down Ned Price in a press conference. A Virginia mother tees off against the school board over mandates, and a doctor warns of medical totalitarianism amid the COVID-19 crackdown. Speaker Nancy Pelosi tells American Olympic athletes to shut up and dribble, and MSNBC holds the governor of Texas accountable for not being able to stop the rain from falling. Major news outlets completely ignore the Johns Hopkins report on COVID lockdowns, and a cold snap has consumed the country, as well as The Friday Five – Best Cold, Ice, Snow, and Freeze Songs.
In the mid 2010s Curling, both Hardline Curling and American Olympic medalist curler John Shuster were facing a huge challenge from the powers governing this centuries-old sport.
