Ok friends of the night, the second year in a row in an incredibly difficult and seemingly extremely unstable time is very soon coming to an end. And thus also one in which nightlife seems to be emotionally lost to us. So today, more than ever, it is important to hold on to every little spark of culture. After a short euphoria in the last few weeks when some clubs started to reopen their doors, they now have to close again, which doesn't make the situation any better. That's why I'm personally glad that so many are continuing on their way and tirelessly keeping the roots and the shoots of our musical culture alive, and I'm personally grateful to everyone for that. Only together can we continue to shape the future musically. And since we're on the subject of culture, let's move on to today's guest, although there are actually two of them again. On the one hand, Andy Vaz, whose unbelievably fantastic and deep sound forms the basis of today's guest DJ set, is supported by Andreas Pasternack, who also enhances the whole thing in a great way with his saxophone. For me, Andy is one of the great music makers in Germany. Now living in Cologne, he started his musical career in the nineties from Düsseldorf. Since '98 he has been personally responsible for several labels and all of them are characterised by deep and minimal techno and house sound. Starting with "Background Records" which released 50 releases between 98 and 2006, featuring a wide variety of great artists, including Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Terrence Dixon and many more. In '99 he founded the sub-label "A Touch of Class", which was known for deep house. From 2000 to 2002 came the short-lived sub-label "Deep Night Essentials" which was known more for minimal techno. And since 2007 he has been running "Yore Records" together with "Alessandro Vaccaro", which is still active today and focuses more on house music by artists such as Rick Wade, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott or Alton Miller. Since 2001 he has already toured 7 times in Japan and performed for the Goethe Institute in numerous Indian cities.  Andreas Pasternack is a jazz musician, entertainer, singer and composer. He has performed in Poland, Belgium, Japan and the USA. He creates his own weekly radio show on NDR 1 Radio MV. And so I feel really honoured that he is giving this ESOA podcast edition with Andy Vaz a cultural first class upgrade.     Ok, so I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Friends, this is ESOA Podcast 043 by Andy Vaz b2b Andreas Pasternack.  Enjoy listening to this edition. Thank you for your tireless interest on the ESOA Podcast format. Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords @aleqsnotal For this episode we have the super talented Paris based artist, Alexis aka Aleqs Notal with his deeper selections. Since a young age, Aleqs Notal has been a true vinyl enthusiast & coming from the Hip-Hop scene, he would go on to become a prolific mixer; notably becoming the Red Bull 3Style World Turntablist champion as "Dj Karve" back in 2010. The other side of Alexis career shifts gears into his brand of Deep House & Techno with atmosphere. His style can traverse through the vibes of Disco, Latin Jazz and Space or moods of pure Soul with the excellent use of percussion to control the groove flows. Since 2014, Alexis has released Gem EPs on C.C.B Recordings, Phonogramme, Visions, Finale Sessions, Sistrum & RDV; In addition to various appearances on the Paris Music Club compilations, he is also the first French DJ to play in Fela Kuti's Shrine. Alexis's self established Imprint "Industrial Light" features more of his exclusive Deep House delights. Its certainly worthy to explore... Alexis has shared stage with pioneers like Jazzy Jeff, Larry Heard, Patrice Scott, Mike Huckaby, Moodymann & so on…. He would also go on to command venues as a well known resident DJ at La Machine du Moulin Rouge & the Rex Club; in addition to making crowds dance with frequent shows at famous clubs like Concrete, 6B, Rinse France, Panorama Bar, Tresor, Fabric London and so many more have had the pleasure of Aleqs Notal in control of the floor. Expect plenty of tasteful selections, deep vibes and classic housey moods on this autumn cruise, all aboard Vol.87 with Aleqs Notals behind the ones and twos.

Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords @alexattias We are delighted to present our special host for 083; Visions Inc. label co-founder, DJ/Producer, and vibes aficionado Alex Attias. He's got a special ear for Jazz, House, Funk, and more; with a career spanning back to the late 80s controlling dancefloors. It was during these years and the early 90s that he DJ'd regularly in Lausanne, Switzerland; eventually establishing himself as one Switzerland's most respected DJs with his own exclusive weekly night, The Jackals. From there much success continued in Alex's legacy with several singles, remixes, collaborations, label appearances with a dynamic range of genres and artists. He's worked with artists from Sun Ra and Ennio Morricone to Laurent Garnier, Roni Size, and Madlib, and that's just a small few; so It was only natural that he have an exclusive label, and in 1999, he and his brother Stephane Attias established the record label Visions Inc., jointly in London, UK and Switzerland. Aptly named, Visions Inc provides a platform where Deep House, Jazz, Breakbeat, Soul- the Organic and the Electronic exist as one Deep Family. The label made a deep vision promptly with its first release, the excellent Future Jazz EP, produced by Alex under his Mustang alias. Visions Inc continued to establish its name and vision in the 2000s as a successful label - From 1999 to 2007, Visions Inc released music from Alex(Freedom Soundz) and his brother Stephane Attias, Plutonia (with Dego), Nanami Togarishi, Domu, and Neroli Records founder Volcov among others. Expansion also naturally occurred during this time leading to the creation of sub labels and party nights Freedom Soundz and LillyGood Party! respectively. For a few years dedication was placed to both these labels and party nights as Visions Inc didn't release directly during this period. 2017 saw the transition of Lillygood Party! from not only a party night, but sublabel of Visions Inc., dedicated to reissuing fully licensed edits Stephane & Alex made in rare Jazz, Disco, House and any other groovy stuff, several of which they played at the famous and ongoing Lillygood party events. In addition, Visions Inc returned strong with releases from some of the best in Deep House including: Alex Attias himself, Anthony Nicholson, Trinidadian Deep, Lars Bartkhun, Javonntte, Patrice Scott, Hanna, and Kai Alce just to give an idea of the vast quality this label has curated recently, as Visions Inc, continues keep the standard high for over 20 years strong. Alex Attias's taste and demand is still as high as ever, as when it comes to moving the crowd with both vintage and new, he is always clever. He is currently working on collaborative projects with BBE to unearth even more Deep Soul history with the volume 2 of his compilation ...you can expect a taste of this, Deep House, Jazz, and more Deep Vibes so tune into Vol.83 and let Alex Attias take your mind and soul on a ride.

Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords Patrice Scott on Facebook: www.facebook.com/PatriceScottSistrum @p-scott Patrice Scott’s roots in the Detroit music scene go a long way back. At the age of just 11 he lived down the road from early DJ group Direct Drive and it was at these block parties that Scott decided that this is what he wanted to do. That his inspiration should be so deeply rooted in live music and the dance floor environment makes sense – he has become known as one of the most innovative and dynamic club DJs from the Motor City with his own deep and textured house & techno sound. In those early days of the Detroit techno scene Patrice was exposed to legendary artist and disc jockeys like Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills as well as radio personality The Electrifying Mojo. Patrice also was profoundly inspired by the Chicago Sounds of Larry Heard, Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles a few hundred miles west. Patrice’s music reflects much of the rich sound palette of deep house and techno from the 1990’s but combines this with a sense of constant innovation which depends less on trends and fashions and more on Scott’s own passion for seeking out an otherworldliness in music. Detroit’s Patrice Scott is a lifelong student of the deep who brings something fresh to his more techno orientated hometown. His smoky, atmospheric house lays low and rolls on endlessly, getting you in a meditative state and keeping you there with spine-tingling vocal motifs and beautifully delicate keys. His own Sistrum label has been on a similar mission since 2006, and you’d be hard pushed to find deep house as raw and emotionally charged anywhere in the world. His podcast is a two hour masterclass in smooth and seductive house that explores plenty of different moods. Selections exude the sort of class and quality that Scott has made his trademark: he’s not afraid of a jiggy drum pattern, or a vulnerable female voice, but the kicks always remain rooted to the floor and impossible to ignore. Come rain or shine, outdoor stages or indoor sweat boxes, this is the sort of mix that will always make a mark.

this is an old mix i originally did in 2007, a week after the 40th Southport weekender..it started as a guest mix for a the CJ Cooper show on internet radio, CJ specialised in 90s house music, and loved what we played in the Sands, the pop up gig in the pub across the road from the Southport Weekender site, and asked me to contribute a mix for his show/podcast, so i thought it would nice to put together a mix, highlighting some of the older tracks we play in the Sands, some well known and some slightly more obscure, and one new track that fitted well into the mix and went down great in the Sands at the weekender ... i'll have to do a part 2 sometime. ENJOY! 01. Meli’sa Morgan – “still in love with you” (meli’sa in the house mix) 02. Cloud 9 – “do you want me” 03. Voices – “can you see the light” 04. 95 North ft Josef – “sun goddess” (dark dub) 05. Mike Dunn – “born 2 b houze” (the ‘get down’ house mix) 06. Danell Dixon – “dance dance” 07. The Urban Bushman – “logorhythmic black” 08. E.S.P. – “its you” (inst) 09. Intense – “holding on” 10. Kerri Chandler – “atmosphere (track 1)” 11. Coral Way Chiefs – “release myself” 12. Patrice Scott – “beyond deep” 13. Soul Vision – “don’t stop” (remix) A Paul Stuart mix ~ some Sands classics 18th May 2007.

One of my own mixes for episode #55 of the Meet the Locals Podcast. It's been forever since I've recorded a studio mix, and since I'm heading out on a road trip this weekend, I wanted some of my new stuff to listen to on the road. This all vinyl mix features mostly new cuts not available on digital from artists including Ada Kaleh, Traumer, Varhat, Janeret, Joey Anderson, Adam Strömstedt, Octo Octa, Lowris, Molly, Hostom, Dixia Sirong, The Black Pony Orchestra, Patrice Scott, The Funky Green Dogs from Outer Space and Terrence Parker, taking you on a two hour journey through a range of vibes. You may find some tracks challenging and inaccessible at first, but stick with it and you will be rewarded :) You can catch me with Katrina Mir and DJ Ramirez on the DC House Grooves show on DJ Jus-Ed's Underground Quality Radio, every two weeks on Saturday nights at 10pm. Check the UQ Radio page for the full schedule: http://bit.ly/UQSchedule.

Kicking the mix off with afro/jazz vibes courtesy of The KutiMangoes and Takuya Kuroda, plus a brand new one from broken beat/nu jazz royalty, Kaidi Kat. There's a hot stepper from Nomumbah on Yoruba and some boogie fire from Amp Fiddler's new album, Motor City Booty. Tenderlonious is back with some flute laced funk on 22a and fellow Peckham music maker, Henry Wu joins Cologne's Tito Wun on a trademark, South London groove. There's a BRUK Jay Daniel riddim, an amazing cut from iZem's debut on Soundway, and we've got the hip-hop heads covered with new ATCQ, Australia's own, Remi and a neck snapper from Common's latest album, Black America Again. LA's Josef Leimberg and Terrace Martin join forces on a bad-ass Miles Davis cover, Erykah Badu's band, RC & the Gritz come with the stank groove and there's more jazz niceness from Azymuth, Relaén, Uyama Hiroto and Yussef Kamaal Trio. The tempo picks up again for the last leg with house flavas from Paradise Forum, Alton Miller, Patrice Scott, Dan Kye aka Jordan Rakei, Jullian Gomes, Kevin Reynolds and Just One. Enjoy!

We head interstate for episode #103 of the DHA Podcast, and call on Brisbane’s Rikki Newton to show us the way. Known for his impeccable taste in house and techno, Rikki has been a stalwart of the Brisbane underground music scene for the better part of a decade. Rikki is one half of Subtrakt Events alongside good friend Adam Swain, which was established in 2007, and has been host to international talents Dixon, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Steve Bug, Prosumer, Smallpeople, Moomin, Oskar Offermann, Jus-Ed, Tornado Wallace, Move D and Fred P. In conjunction with members of the Kana, White Rhino and Let’s Get Minimal collectives, Rikki is launching the Andromeda Festival - a boutique open-air electronica event set to take place on November 22nd-23rd 2014 at Ivory’s Rock in South-East Queensland’s Scenic Rim. With an edgy music policy and creativity first approach, it will be a breath of fresh air to audiences looking to break from run of the mill festival line-ups. If you were wondering what the definition of deep house is, simply have a listen to this mix. It is one of the most perfect selections of deep house we have heard in quite some time. With a distinct NYC feel to it, Rikki features tracks from some of the great producers and labels for house and techno, including Fred P, Patrice Scott, Amir Alexander & Steven Tang. We were also extremely excited to hear the inclusion of Naoki Shinohara – Dimension, released on Soul People Music in May 2014. A truly pristine mix, every deep house lover should enjoy.
