He explains Upward's scaling through a “gradually and then suddenly” 10-year model, hiring for weaknesses, staying ahead of operational waves, and making volunteers the heroes. Celebrating $205.8 Million and Future Cedarville SphereThe future of Cedarville University seems to rise right out of the waters of Cedar Lake on the latest Cedarville Stories podcast. The conversation opens with the kind of news that gives Cedarville plenty to celebrate. Dr. Will Smallwood, Cedarville's Vice President for Advancement, reflects on the strong finish of the 1000 Days Transformed Campaign, which raised a record-setting $205.8 million. He describes a campus humming with momentum — scholarships are transforming students' lives, new facilities reshaping daily routines, and generous gifts strengthening Cedarville's mission for years to come. That momentum is already showing up across campus. Students are learning in new and upgraded spaces, living in expanded housing, and stepping into opportunities that would have seemed out of reach only a few years ago. Smallwood points to the growing number of students serving with Global Outreach teams, discipleship thriving in residence halls and chapel, and a University determined to remain faithful to its mission. Cedarville, he explains, is not simply enjoying the success of a completed campaign. It is stewarding those gifts carefully and putting them to work right now. That makes the next part of the conversation sound even more believable. As attention turns to rumors about Cedarville's future, one idea begins to loom larger than the rest: the Cedarville Sphere. Not a simple bridge over the lake. Not merely another campus building. A sphere. A striking, immersive, 100,000-square-foot venue rising in the middle of Cedar Lake, wrapped in a 360-degree LED display and designed to reimagine chapel, classes, concerts, and even athletic events. With talk of renderings, architectural conversations, innovation, and a projected $400 million price tag, the vision sounds ambitious but not impossible for a University riding a wave of growth and generosity. In fact, it sounds like classic Cedarville — daring, distinctive, and centered on student transformation. The vision feels bold, but not outlandish for a University fresh off a historic campaign and full of forward-looking energy. For most of the episode, the Cedarville Sphere stands there in the imagination like the next big step, a landmark-sized symbol of a campus already expanding in remarkable ways. But beware of the loftiness of the idea. In fact, you'll want to stay tuned to the entire program to dissect fact from fiction on this special April podcast.Clearly, the playful ending of the Cedarville Sphere does not take away from the larger story. It sharpens it. Cedarville may not be building a glowing globe on Cedar Lake, but it is clearly building something lasting in the lives of its students.https://share.transistor.fm/s/77f2c625https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5JI5Gi4NlY

Raising Expectations with Pastor Joe Schofield, Dr. Paul Hall, Stefanie Thayer, Dr. Craig Thayer, Pastor Ron Greer Guest, Dr Sheila Schuller Coleman - Empowering the Next Generation and the Legacy of Faith Dear Friends, We are looking forward to having our friend Dr. Sheila Schuller Coleman back with us this week to, in her own words “share my current Divine assignment!” We will see how this call of God has produced a deep understanding and revealing of special resources on how we can help strengthen and grow the children in these dangerous days! You will not only hear her words but will also feel her heart and insights as you watch, listen and join us! In this episode of Raising Expectations, host Joe Schofield welcomes Dr. Sheila Coleman to discuss her transition from a legacy of ministry to a personal, divine mandate. The conversation centers on the "Heart of a Warrior" movement, an initiative dedicated to protecting children globally through prayer, reclaiming their identity in Christ, and providing tangible support to vulnerable communities. The Legacy of Faith and the Power of Divine Choice Dr. Sheila Coleman reflects on the humble beginnings of her father, the late pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, who rose from a poor farm in Iowa to reach 20 million people weekly. She emphasizes that God's choice of her father—and His choice of every individual—is not based on education or platform, but on a "divine destiny" tailored for "such a time as this." This legacy serves as a foundation for her belief that no one should place limitations on what God can achieve through them, regardless of their age or perceived lack of influence. The "Heart of a Warrior" Mandate In June 2022, Dr. Coleman received what she describes as a "chicken vision," where the Lord assigned her to protect the "bride" (the church) under one wing and the "children of the world" under the other. This led to the rapid writing of The Heart of a Warrior: Delivering the Children of the World for Christ. The book addresses specific "attacks" on the next generation, including the alarming tripling of suicide rates among young teens and the loss of safety in schools and the womb. Her ministry now focuses on "covering" these children through a dedicated "Pentagon" of prayer warriors. Global Outreach and Tangible Miracles The ministry extends beyond prayer into practical action, such as the "Sheep Ministry" in Kenya. After being prompted by God to provide livestock to a poor village, Dr. Coleman partnered with Storm Shelter Ministries to provide sheep (costing $50 each) to widows and orphans, allowing them to become self-sufficient. Domestically, she shares the "miracle" of her own family—spontaneous triplets born healthy at 35 weeks despite medical risks—as a testament to God's faithfulness and the power of declaring life over the unborn. Reclaiming Identity and Biblical Wisdom A core theme of Dr. Coleman's recent work is the restoration of identity. Through her handbook, Claiming the Identity of Christ's Children, she encourages parents and grandparents to speak blessings over children, teaching them to declare, "I am the beloved child of the Most High God." Furthermore, she addresses the current educational crisis and the rise of antisemitism on campuses, arguing that the world is suffering from a lack of "wisdom"—the application of knowledge through a godly lens. The episode concludes with a powerful reminder that "greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world." Dr. Sheila Coleman's journey emphasizes that the most significant work often begins with a simple "yes" to a divine assignment, leading to a global impact that protects the most vulnerable and restores the identity of the next generation. Don't forget to check out our guest, Dr. Coleman's books! Cam Arminio's Full-Court Mission: More Than Just a Game At Cedarville University, Cam Arminio is known for helping students get ready for life after graduation. As the Associate Director of Career Services, he coaches them through résumé prep, mock interviews, and LinkedIn tips — all with the heart of someone who truly wants to see others succeed.  From Day One to Day 1,000, Cam is in their corner. But there's another side to Cam's story — one that plays out on the basketball court. Listen to his encouraging interaction with the game on this week's Cedarville Stories podcast. Cam has loved basketball his whole life. Back in high school, it was his identity. But when he became a Christian at 17, everything changed. What once took center stage became a way to serve something bigger. And today, he's using that same game to point others to Christ through the Cedarville Basketball Ministry. Each Sunday during the school year, dozens of students gather to play. Some come for the love of the game, others are fueled by the adrenaline rush of competition — but all of them find more than they expected. At halftime, Cam and his group of student leaders pause to share something lasting: the message of Jesus. It's not flashy. It's not forced. It's just real people connecting through a shared love for basketball and encountering something deeper along the way. During the week, those connections continue through Bible studies, as student leaders follow up with guys they've met on the court. The goal is simple: to reach young men who may not be ready for church pews but will show up to play. And once they're there, to open a door to faith and friendship. Looking ahead, Cam has big plans. More events off campus. New ways to connect. And even a Global Outreach trip to the Czech Republic in 2026 — carrying on the legacy of Coach Don Callan by using basketball to share the Gospel overseas. For Cam and the team, it all comes down to this: meaningful competition, Gospel-centered outreach, and life-giving community. Because sometimes, the court is where the real ministry begins. https://share.transistor.fm/s/7575329bhttps://youtu.be/CZbA05jExcQ

If you are mobilizing in an organization, you know the frustration that can sometimes exist when others unknowingly sabotage your mobilization efforts or at the very least, don't quite see the importance of mobilization. Today, Dave has a frank conversation with John Darnell, CEO of Global Outreach International. John unpacks his philosophy of mobilization, how to balance hitting the recruitment numbers with discipleship, and what he did to increase the mobilization culture at Global Outreach. Here's what Dave asked him: Let's talk about when you became the CEO of Global Outreach and how you had to shift things as a leader to support mobilization. How do you create healthy collaboration between departments? When it comes to the philosophies of mobilization, how do you navigate the tension that sometimes exists between mobilization recruiting and mobilization discipleship? Mobilizers can often feel pressure to hit the numbers and that can demotivate them. How do you encourage your mobilization staff to keep them motivated? You mentioned earlier to me that you have had to “push the board.” Can you explain what you mean by that and what occurred? What are you seeing change in the church and what must we do differently as we mobilize the body of Christ?

We want to give you a glimpse into what God is calling Liquid Church to do in 2025. Be encouraged: What we do today will matter in 100 years and for all of eternity. You can leave a legacy and our work begins today. As a church, we have four areas we want to focus on in 2025. The first is Bible Literacy. The church is prioritizing deepening Bible understanding across all age groups. The second area of focus is on the Next Generation. Liquid Church is investing in Gen Z and Gen Alpha through mentorship, scholarships for high school seniors, and programs tailored for their spiritual growth. This generational focus aims to shape minds with Scripture and equip youth to engage with faith in today's culture. Our third initiative will be Church Expansion. Growth plans include launching Spanish services in key locations, supported by AI-translated sermons. The church is also pursuing permanent locations for its Somerset and Middlesex County Campuses. And, our fourth initiative is Global Outreach, specifically the Clean Water Cause. New efforts will focus on large-scale water projects and building churches in the Dominican Republic, providing both physical and spiritual resources to underserved communities. Watch this message from Pastor Tim Lucas and consider how you can help leave a legacy for generations to come.

J.D. Bridges, Vice President of Global Outreach for Ligonier Ministries, tells us this week about Ligonier's efforts to produce content and teaching materials to defend and teach the holiness of God—not only to American Christians but to Christians around the world, including persecuted Christians in hostile areas and restricted nations. Since 1971, when R.C. Sproul founded the ministry in the Ligonier Valley of western Pennsylvania, Ligonier has continued to produce more and more Biblical content. As people from other nations discovered the work and requested resources in their own languages, Ligonier's international efforts have grown. Creating a strategy for translation and dubbing, Bridges and his team are focusing on the top twenty languages around the world—which creates the potential to access 80% of the world's population with gospel materials and theology training. God has opened doors to provide resources in Chinese, Urdu, Hindi, Indonesian, Farsi and many other languages. Out of 5,000,000 pastors around the world, only 5-10% have any theological education. Listen as J.D. shares his heart to create more opportunities for more people to freely engage with Biblical content and how Ligonier works to equip pastors and churches. “For us the first impulse is to equip the pastor…because we know that the church will benefit,” he says. Bridges tells of the difficulties in translating theological concepts into a new language for the first time and the most important thing he gets to do as he builds relationships with persecuted Christians and how Ligonier uses many different and creative angles to provide these tools to Christians in places like China, Iran, Pakistan and other restricted nations. Pray for God's blessings on continued translation work and distribution efforts. Also, check out the Things Unseen Podcast from Ligonier for thoughtful reflections on the Christian life and our relationship with God. Never miss an episode! Subscribe to the VOM Radio podcast.
