Jaime Duque (no relation to co-host Juliana Duque by the way) is the founder of Catación Pública, a brand of specialty coffeeshops, roasters and educational centers in Bogota and Quindio, Colombia. Throughout his career, Jaime has worked every part in the value chain of Colombian coffee. He started his work in the fields, as an agricultural engineer, working with farmers to fine tune their process to attain higher levels of quality. He has worked to encourage more specialty growers and for more coffee to be roasted and consumed inside the country. He has become leading coffee educator in Colombia and Catación Pública offers a wide variety of workshops and certifications that are sought out by those in the coffee industry throughout the region.In the interview, we discuss how, even as the rest of the world had been exposed for half a century to the general quality and story of Colombian coffee through the emblematic and imaginary future of Juan Valdez, it has only been until recently that you have been able to actually drink good coffee in Colombia. When I first went to the country, in 2005, most of what you find was tinto, these little cups of coffee loaded with sugar to offset the low quality. All the good stuff was exported. Tinto is still around, but there has been a gradual transition towards a more dynamic coffee culture in the country. Today you see specialty coffeeshops like Catación Pública all over Colombia. There are world class baristas and roasters, and the growers can actually see how their coffee is being consumed, which gives them additional insight into how they should grow it. We also talk about why he thinks fermentation processes like carbonic maceration will remain niche, while cold brew still has enormous growth potential.Find out more at New Worlder.

El equipo dirigido por Alberto Gamero superó al Deportivo Pasto 3 por 1 en la primera fecha de la Liga BetPlay 2021-II y sumó sus primeros 3 puntos para este nuevo torneo.Los goles del equipo azul fueron anotados por Fernando Uribe en dos ocasiones y por Emerson Rodriguez, quienes fueron los más destacados del equipo junto con Harrison Mojica que jugó como titular.La preocupación llega al equipo por la ausencia de refuerzos para el nuevo torneo y la partido de Cristian "Chicho" Arango a la MLS y a pesar de esa salida, las directivas aseguran que hasta el momento no se piensa en reemplazarlo.Millonarios jugará la segunda fecha contra el Quindio el miércoles 21 de julio a las 8 de la noche en el estadio El Campín.

Au cœur du département du Quindio, dans le eje cafetero colombien, Juan Felipe Herrera cultive depuis plusieurs années un café qui ne correspond pas aux standards de la fédération nationale de caféiculteurs. Son café, dit “naturel”, respecte un process ancestral, à savoir qu'il n'est pas lavé après sa récolte. Ceci permet d'économiser d'énormes quantités d'eau, de protéger l'environnement et le paysage magnifique qui entoure sa ferme, mais aussi de sensibiliser les acteurs de ce secteur à de nouveaux modes de production. Son café, appelé “Café Anarkista” est depuis peu importé en France par l'entreprise Un café pour Demain, qui tente de valoriser le travail de ces producteurs de l'autre bout du monde.Rencontre avec Juan Felipe Herrera et Adrien Pommier.

Imaginez un vers de terre, dur comme du béton, enfoui jusqu’à 900 mètres sous la montagne. Ce vers existe, il est colombien. Son nom : le tunnel de La Linea. Après 11 ans de travaux, ce méga-projet devient le tunnel le plus long d’Amérique latine. L’ouverture des premiers tronçons a été inaugurée le 4 septembre dernier par Ivan Duque, le président colombien. Une partie du tunnel passe sous la cordillère des Andes. Il vise à améliorer le transport de marchandises entre le port de l’océan Pacifique et Bogota, la capitale au centre du pays. Une blague a toujours circulé à Bogota, la capitale colombienne. Elle dit qu’il est moins cher de faire venir un container du Japon que du port de Buenaventura sur la côte pacifique, à l’ouest du pays. La Colombie, le pays de l’OCDE le moins équipé en infrastructures de transports C’est bien pour remédier aux manques de routes et de rails que ce méga-tunnel de La Linea se construit. Différents tronçons tout au long des 5 0 km entre les quais maritimes de Buenaventura du centre de Bogota. Le tunnel de La Linea totalise 30 km de voies, dont certaines sous les montagnes de la cordillère des Andes. Ajoutez-y 31 viaducs et presque autant de ponts, 25 sont annoncés pour le mois d’avril 2021. À cette date, le tunnel ouvrira la totalité de ses voies, car pour le moment, certains tronçons ne fonctionnent pas dans les deux sens. Avec le tunnel de La Linea, la vie des Colombiens va changer. Qu’il neige, qu’il pleuve, ils gagneront près d’une heure de trajet pour aller visiter les parcs animaliers et les célèbres vallées du café de la région de Quindio. La Linea est l’un des 25 tunnels du projet Cruce de la Cordillera Central. 11 ans de travaux. Coût de 630 millions de dollars Ainsi, nous explique Pedro Valero, le directeur de la Chambre de commerce franco-colombienne à Bogota, même les critiques qui ont fustigé le retard des travaux et leur coût ont disparu. Il est vrai que le gouvernement en coopération avec l’entreprise privée Invias ne devrait pas faire augmenter le prix du péage du tunnel. Selon lui, le transport de marchandises comme d’ailleurs le tourisme national vont y gagner : « Il y a encore beaucoup de routes à construire pour faciliter la circulation entre les villes de Colombie, explique-t-il. J’espère que le tunnel de La Linea sera suivi d’autres projets, cela réduira les coûts de transport. Notre pays, ajoute-t-il, se partage entre plaines et montagnes, notamment la cordillère des Andes. Désormais l’hiver, avec le tunnel de La Linea, nous pourrons assurer le transfert de marchandises et les citoyens pourront circuler sans peur des accidents ou des routes enneigées. Les Colombiens pourront emprunter certains tronçons pour aller visiter les parcs animaliers et la Vallée du café dans l’intérieur du pays. Les avantages seront beaucoup plus bénéfiques et constructifs que les critiques qui fustigent le coût des travaux de 630 millions de dollars. » Une fois totalement terminée, la date est fixée au printemps prochain, La Linea deviendra le tunnel le plus long d’Amérique latine. Une fierté pour le pays. Certains journalistes se réjouissent de cette image positive. Pouvoir montrer et parler d’autre chose que des fléaux du pays comme le trafic de drogue ou la lutte contre les paramilitaires. Derrière la modernisation, les violences politiques perdurent Pour Sébastien Velut, spécialiste du continent sud-américain à la Sorbonne à Paris, il ne faudrait pas en profiter pour oublier les vieux problèmes du pays. Les violences historiques demeurent : « Il y a des assassinats réguliers de leaders sociaux, de leaders syndicaux, la crise du Covid-19 qui coupe la communication et rend les choses peut-être encore plus violentes. Certes, ce tunnel répond à un projet de long terme en Colombie et qui finalement s’inscrit dans une logique de sa mise en valeur, du développement de ses activités. On peut espérer qu’il apporte des bénéfices à la Colombie et aux Colombiens, mais il ne faut pas oublier que ce projet est porté par le gouvernement, qui ferme les yeux sur ces violences. » Le gouvernement, en accord avec le consortium de constructeurs a dédié un site où les Colombiens peuvent suivre l’avancée des travaux du tunnel de La Linea. Système d’aération, surveillance électronique et même l’éclairage du tunnel y sont expliqués. Opération promotion, il y est dit que 90 % des accidents routiers en montagne seront ainsi évités. Quant aux chauffeurs de camions, ils gagneront près d’une heure et quart sur chaque trajet vers les terres ou la mer.

Valle del Cauca Tengo un oyente y amigo al otro lado del Atlántico, Juan Vargas que me ha contado un poco más acerca de su tierra. Vive en Cali (Colombia) una ciudad que es conocida como “la sucursal del cielo”. Allí nació el escritor romántico Jorge Isaacs. Aunque escribió poesía su única novela, María, está considerada una de las obras más destacadas de la literatura hispanoamericana del siglo XIX. Cali pertenece al departamento Del Valle del Cauca que comparte junto a los departamentos de Risaralda, Quindio, Caldas y Antioquía el Paisaje Cultural Cafetero un ejemplo de adaptación humana a condiciones geográficas difíciles en las que se desarrolló la caficultura de montaña. De hecho este paisaje fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Muchas gracias, Juan, por enseñarme todas estas cosas de tu tierra. Our specialty coffee is Fair-Trade, shade-grown in fertile soil on small farms located on the mountain slopes of Risaralda, a state in the heart of the Main Colombian Coffee Growing Region. It is 5,400 feet above sea level. This area is called the Quimbaya Region too, in honor of the Quimbaya civilization who inhabited this area around the valley of the Cauca River. This civilization was known for spectacular gold work These particular elements have build a reputation of Colombian Coffee as the Richest Coffee in the world OROBÍ CAFÉ is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Diego and Eva Piedrahita. They were born and raised in the heart of the Colombian Coffee-Growers Axis. Both worked as coffee roasters as young adults. They now own a large specialty coffee plantation in Pereira, Colombia but make their home in Statesville, NC Mr. Piedrahita has a background in education in Colombia as well as a wealth of applicable industry experience.
