Welcome to the 9th episode of the Resonate Podcast! We are excited to share this thought-provoking and important conversation about the journey of the “middle years” with our pre-teens and teens as a parent! Our guest, Rachelle Garcia Seliga, is a mother, wife and midwife who is midwifing a cultural shift through her teachings. She has a deep affinity for the postpartum period and has apprenticed with 17 home birth midwives in Mexico and the US but was surprised to find a void in the teen years transition. Rachelle highlights how meeting our teens' “full spectrum of their emotionality” often requires us as parents to really grow up and examine our capacity to be with the full range of human experience without judging ourselves. These years are an opportunity to ‘step back in' and re-do what we couldn't support in our kids when they were younger. She asks, ‘What is innate within us?' We access the blueprint and map by going within and sourcing personal authority. “This is how we create a living culture!” Rachelle has been greatly influenced by her ‘spiritual adoption' in her 20s. Her ‘Godparents ushered her through young adulthood, and this ceremonial path brought her to where she is now. She now teaches through Innate Traditions, and her work centres around unifying principles, honouring innate wisdom primarily through maternal health and postpartum care. You can find her work here or follow her on Instagram @innatetraditions. This conversation can help anchor you if you're in the throes of the teen years or offer you rich insight no matter where you are in the parenting journey! Enjoy! Today my guest is one of the most inspiring women I know - Rachelle Garcia Seliga. Rachelle Garcia Seliga is a Mother, Wife and Midwife who is midwifing a cultural shift through her teachings, trainings and in-person experiences. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)— through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) who completed 8 years of traditional midwifery apprenticeship, spanning both the US and Mexico. Rachelle embraces the original meaning of the word ‘midwife,' which is caretaker of the people's health from ‘womb to tomb.' Hands-on, life experience informs all of Rachelle's work, and forms a strong basis of INNATE Postpartum Care - Certification Training, where students learn simple, empowering modalities that bring about true healing and vibrant health for postpartum Mothers and families. Today's episode is with Klyne Love, who shares generously about her experience with single motherhood throughout floods, housing crises and a lot of grief. Despite being a heavy topic, Klyne has a spirit of hope and optimism and holds a beautiful vision of a more mother-centred world, reflected in the work she does with mothers. Single motherhood has taught Klyne so much about herself, about care, community, wellbeing and complex social and cultural issues relating to how we look after each other, and how we don't. Klyne's story is so important, for all of us who wish to know how to support single mother's better, and for single mothers to know they are not alone in many of the common struggles faced when mothering without support. Klyne is a radical advocate for Mother-centred care and feminine embodiment. She works in postpartum education and care, having completed trainings with Julia Jones from Newborn Mothers, Sophie Ward Koren from Milk & Seed and Rachelle Garcia Seliga from Innate Traditions. She is also a Qoya teacher and ultimately these two threads weave together as sacred spaces for women to connect deeply to themselves and access their intuitive Knowing and self-healing. At the core of her work is a burning passion for a collective returning to community and thriving life (not just survival). She runs both in-person and online workshops. I feel so privileged to be able to speak to so many women around the world about how we need to do matresence differently. Even when the conversation cannot provide ‘easy' answers. Even when we realise that, perhaps, the system is too broken. I already knew we need to honour the transition to motherhood and support women differently and this conversation only opened my eyes, yet again, to the requirements of midwifing ourselves and continuing to do it better. Listen as Amy and Rachelle talk about: Cultural understandings, immigrating as a new mother and finding yourself in a brand new surroundings when the veil lifts and how we can look around and realise how much we desire more. How our programming and conditioning can get potentised by the intensity of birth and how that can affect our birth experience. Tuning into how mothers really feel, because as mothers we carry life and we provide an important aspect for humanity's health. Taking responsibility and being in a good way with our power, in order to exalt and uplift others – especially within a healthcare practitioner environment. Rachelle embraces the original meaning of the word ‘midwife,' which is caretaker of the people's health from ‘womb to tomb' and has several ways to connect with her. She has a free ebook: The Five Cross-Cultural Prescriptions of Postpartum WELLNESS https://www.innatetraditions.com/download-free-ebook (https://www.innatetraditions.com/download-free-ebook) and a free class: Rites of Passage & The Postpartum Period https://www.innatetraditions.com/replay-free-class-rites-of-passage (https://www.innatetraditions.com/replay-free-class-rites-of-passage) If you would like a deeper understanding of matresence and how we support women differently, Mama Rising facilitator training opens just once a year. What is matriarchy, why do we need it, and how do we create it? Today we dive into the skills we need to cultivate matriarchy in our communities, with guest Maura Sternberg. We explore how we orient to personal and collective apocalypse, why mothers and children need to be at the center of our social structures, and how we can begin to create the worlds we want to see. Maura is a kitchen witch, herbalist, spirit medicine holder, and sister. She sits at the feet of her teachers Rachelle Garcia Seliga, Susun Weed, Everest Asher, Perri Chase, among others. Her most fervent wish is that her work serves as ecstatic and embodied liberation, for herself, her community, her ancestors, and her FirstMother, Earth. How do we support thriving life on earth through the pathway of maternal health? Our physiologic design is the inarguable truth, but in today’s confusing online culture well meaning morality politics often obscure what eons of evolution make clear. If we want to best support babies and their families, do the deep repair work of these times, and become the fully realized adults we were born to be, we must have an accurate understanding of what our biology needs from us. Today on the Belonging podcast, I am joined by Rachelle Garcia Seliga. Rachelle is a Mother, Wife, and Midwife who has spent the past 18 years working with women and families, in service to woman-centered/ family-centered birth, health, and Life. She is deeply invested in the revitalization of community living as the most important medicine of our times. All of her work is dedicated to midwifing a cultural shift — honoring our innate wisdom, personal authority, and the sanctity of Life. This conversation with Rachelle was one I deeply needed to have in one of the hardest weeks of my postpartum journey. Her words really land deeply with me, and I truly don't think you need to have given birth or have a child to feel the depth and the urgency of this conversation. Together we talk about defining midwifery as the original tenders to community care, the unavoidable grief at the repair work we as a global community must do to tend to birthing folk and re-village, returning to our biology to break the cycle of dis-ease, pathology treatment vs. care-taking, the importance of the exo-gestation period (aka postpartum), how to begin the process of re-villaging and creating a regenerative future, and honoring the mother. Postpartum has it all - depression, anxiety, rage, joy, fear, love, frustration, happiness, grief... yep it's the full spectrum of emotions, sometimes all in one day. We hear about it sometimes, whispers of mental health struggles, but like the rest of the mental health world, it's not talked about openly. So how the heck do we deal with that? How do we know if we're okay? How do we ask for help? That's what I talked about with maternal mental health counselor, and new mom herself, Mary Sanker. How can we navigate this postpartum period and still feel like ourselves? How do we find support when the world we live in offers no village? Mary teaches us how to make subtle shifts by slowing down, taking stock, and moving towards what feels true to you. The first steps are not sweeping life changes, it's just doing the one small thing that's next. Listening to your body, letting go of unrealistic expectations of what you "should" be doing, and do what feels true. That's the beginning of your path.We also talk about the scary stuff, the times when it's more than "just the baby blues"... and Mary shares the most beautiful insight into what's actually going on in someone's brain when their minds are consumed with harmful thoughts. Her message to postpartum people: you're a mother, not a martyr - you do not have to continually abandon yourself for some productivity output, or unspoken expectation that isn't serving you or your child. We cannot talk about collective health, planetary health, or the health of future generations, without talking about the health of mothers. As Rachelle says, “The dysfunction and disharmony within our human environments is manifesting through the vulnerable bodies of postpartum women. In fact it is through the bodies of mothers that humanity is being alerted to the urgency of our collective need for change.” IN THE INTRO: The reaction to my previous episode on parenting without a village IN THE INTERVIEW: Our culture is set up to fail new families/parents, and pathologizing the postpartum period overlooks the fact that it’s our social structures that are the cause of the immense emotional and psychological pain most postpartum mothers feel Mama- it’s not your fault New moms lose up to 700 hours of sleep during the first postpartum year The baseline of normal is that human babies need care 24/7 (your baby is not “high needs”), what’s not normal is living in isolated nuclear families Postpartum care cannot happen without community, and community is the one thing we are all lacking Why it’s so hard, when it’s what we all deeply crave, to recreate the community living of our ancestors/how the colonial mindset keeps us mired in separation and distrust The pelvis as the seat of trauma for most every woman, and how we can begin to heal that How we feel in our pelvis is how we feel in our life- the connection between mental and pelvic health Intergenerational trauma and clearing the “bad medicine” that was embedded in the bodies of our female ancestors and passed down to us Anchoring in what we actually believe about ourselves, our bodies, this life Women are, and deeply feel, unsafe in our culture The incredible responsibility of raising girls (and boys tho!) in this culture, and how Rachelle and I navigate talking to them about the realities of patriarchy in an age appropriate way Teaching our kids to respect their inner authority first and foremost Reproductive and environmental justice are one and the same It’s time to grow up and do the work- our primary responsibility as adults on this planet at this time is to caretake life One simple way we can create community and support the parents of little ones If we can’t be resourced horizontally (by the folks around us), we can be resourced vertically (by our well ancestors) and by the land The sacrifices we make as mothers are a holy offering to life itself LINKS: The Innate Traditions website Innate Traditions on Instagram Medicine Stories Patreon (podcast bonuses!) In this solo show, I’m opening up about a huge realization that I had after giving birth to my son Milo back in April of 2017. “The postpartum period REVEALS the inherent dysfunction in all matters of modern society,” as the Instagram post by Rachelle Garcia-Seliga @innatetraditions so accurately captures. And more than two and a half years postpartum, I find myself constantly wondering: does America really value families? Press play for more on how the lack of paid parental leave and the slow unraveling of the proverbial village present a disconnect in America’s claim to value the family. I chat about how these two issues impact society, and I also offer up some ideas from improvement. Hey beautiful beings, thank you for listening to another Daydreaming Wolves episode, you are so appreciated! In this interview I spoke to Marissa of Cyclical Body about body fluency, cyclical self-care and embodiment - as you know all things I am curiously exploring at the moment. I am working with Marissa and am in her membership program, so it feels really exciting to share just a few of the things I am learning from her with you today. Here is some of what we talked about: - Living in deeper harmony with our bodies - Our menstrual cycles as teachers - Finding more inclusive, authentic and open language around our bodies - Learning to really listen and following our stories - Shifting out of seeing our bodies as enemies - Finding gateways of embodied exploration Here is what Marissa says about her work: I offer menstrual cycle education and holistic womb wellness guidance from an earth & body based perspective. My entrance into this work comes through birth work, studying with Whapio of the Matrona and Rachelle Garcia Seliga of Innate Traditions Postpartum. I was led to this path particularly through the ancestral elements of womb work, and at some point fell in love with the menstrual cycle and it’s been my teacher ever since. In the last year I have deepened into pelvic work through studying Holistic Pelvic Care with Tami Kent. I’m endlessly amazed by the wisdom of our bodies and the creative resilience moving through us. I am deeply informed by all the plant friends that have graciously found me on my path, as well as the territories that i’ve been held by – san diego, occupied kumeyaay land and recently lyons, colorado, occupied ute land. You can learn more about her here: https://cyclicalbody.com/ And this is her instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cyclicalbody/ :: About me and the Daydreaming Wolves podcast :: My name is Yarrow - I am a queer writer, body worker, web designer and comforter. My podcast and the community I’ve built around it is meant to support soft folks in reclaiming embodiment, creative expression, a connection to nature and everyday magic. On Daydreaming Wolves you’ll find a mix of deep dive conversations with beautiful people who are exploring things that feel good and solo episodes in which I am sharing how to guides and magical food for thought with you. I enjoy bringing people together into a community that loves to play with plants, writes together and creates everyday rituals to make life feel more beautiful. My program, Embodied Magic is an affordable and well-curated monthly course and community. It celebrates weirdness and explores ways in which self-care can help us reclaim joyful and sustainable forms of resistance. It's available to all Patrons and you can learn more here: http://www.daydreamingwolves.com/wild-embodiment/ I am not on social media anymore because I want to focus on creating indy media like my podcasts, compare myself less often and spent little time on my phone. This means I have more energy to nurture my communities and make cool things for you! Enough women in my life have made a point to tell me how Rachelle and I were destined to be friends and that we were kindred sisters who shared a mission, so I reached out to her, and asked her to be on the podcast. This is our first ever conversation of not only discovering our connection, but soaking in the deep well of Rachelle's wisdom. An authentic midwife with a commitment to truth and spirit, Rachelle completely blew me away.

Rachelle Garcia Seliga, founder of Innate Traditions, http://www.innatetraditions.com/ancestral-grief/, shares: What is ancestral grief and how is it showing up postpartum Defining and finding community support as if your life depends on it, because it does How she found her life partner New forms, new paradigms, and new models in partnership and business Her personal story of financial health and transformation, how financial need and breadwinning has not allowed her to hide, and insisted she give her gifts.
Rachelle Garcia Seliga's work is dedicated to midwifing a cultural shift- based upon our innate wisdom, personal authority and the sacredness of Life. Working in the field of traditional midwifery care for the past 15 years, Rachelle's work as a ‘midwife’ embraces the original meaning of this word, which is caretaker of women’s health from ‘womb to tomb.’ ‘Innate’ is that which is natural and inherent. ‘Traditions’ are those teachings that are passed down from one generation to the next. Our innate physiological design offers us a map to health and wellness. We THRIVE when we follow that which has been laid out for us. Traditional medicinal knowledge is stored within our blood memory, within the Earth, Air, Water and Fire. The more we heal ourselves from the destructive programming we have received, the more -access- we have to this knowledge. It is from these understandings that ‘Innate Traditions’ was born. All of Rachelle's work is dedicated to this Remembrance. Rachelle runs a Holistic Well-Woman Care practice, which tends to the health of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. I have been drawn to Rachelle's work as I feel she has a strong gift at articulating and giving language to these important topics, in turn helping us turn inner knowing into understanding and inspire cultural change through action and embodiment. We discuss: The traditional wisdom of postpartum care and the importance to reconnect to these practices within the current modern yet dis-functional context. Ancestral grief, the subsequent disconnection from each other, the world we a a part of, the complexities of healing and crucial need to do so The inherent physiology underlying Rachelle's work, teachings and postpartum care overall. How understanding this allows us to be informed to better nurture Mothers and therefore babies, children and communities at large. The remembrance that while we may feel and act disconnected, we can never actually be disconnected from that which we are inherently a part of. Rachelle has a Webinar on Ancestral Grief & Ancestral Healing 14th April, MST, that will be 15th April AEST but if you sign up you will receive a recording available for 72hours after webinar. Rachelle Garcia Seliga is a powerhouse. A peaceful activist, midwife, mother, homeschooler and homesteader, she is the founder of a global training program for rising women, rising community leaders and birth workers. Her work is shepherding in a new world order of CULTURE, practice, and ways of living through rites of passage from birth, to lovemaking, to pregnancy, delivery, and death. Women around the world have taken Rachelle’s trainings and are now administering care and community architecture to women and their families everywhere. Check out her work online at http://www.innatetraditions.com/ Her work is deep. The connections speak to our depths. Anyone can participate. Resounding takeaways from our conversation: We cannot use our analytical mind, our forebrain, and be in touch with our instinct/the intuitive aspect of ourselves, at the same time. The more we heal ourselves from the destructive programming we have received, masked as modernization, intellectualization, and being civilized and “first-world,” the more *access* we have to this innate knowledge. She calls it blood-memory. From our ancestors. This taps into epigenetics, that unseen thread across generations—patterns of behavior, heredity, social responses, and trends. It’s deep y’all. There is a Social Nervous system in which humans co-regulate our nervous systems to each other. We are pack animals. It’s not normal for a postpartum mom to be alone. Tend and Befriend is a 3rd response in the autonomic nervous system for resolving situations, alongside, fright, flight, & freeze. #Polyvagaltheory Rachelle is dropping knowledge about lost traditions and our connections to nature and the natural world. We talk a lot about the female body in this episode, but this episode is for everybody. I hope you enjoy the episode.
'Postpartum care is a necessity, not a luxury', states Rachelle, the creator and founder of the INNATE postpartum care program. Throughout this podcast Rachelle and I discuss the challenges that so many modern mothers are experiencing during the postpartum period. Together we explored the following topics and questions: Why postpartum care is not a luxury, but rather a necessity The implication that colonization has had on the postpartum period Why mothers are experience exhaustion, depression, and anxiety throughout the postpartum period The importance of community as the #1 antidote to pp struggles The idea that our dominent culture has failed the pp mother, rather than the mother failing at 'motherhood' The cultural shift that Rachelle is midwifing Closing with a powerful statement about returning to the natural laws and orders of life that are contained intrinsically in all of us Rachelle is grounded in her wisdom and has an important message for mothers all over the world. I am so grateful that Rachelle joined me for this recording. ............................ Rachelle Garcia Seliga has been working in the field of traditional midwifery care for the past 17 years.
