“The reality is that Cisco is still the dominant PBX provider,” says Greg Zweig of Ribbon Communications. Looking out over the UC topography, at the ground level, Greg sees a terrain where many enterprises leverage a lot of capabilities that Cisco has. For these customers, Webex is compelling, so Greg argues that the channel community needs to have the ability to win with Webex and Teams. We learn how Ribbon has worked to make sure its product line of SBCs are well aligned for the migration path many enterprises continue to prefer, noting that Ribbon helps people navigate smooth and non-disruptive migrations. “The worst thing a reseller can do is tell a customer that they don't need to move,” when the customer might begin to quietly search for partners who know how to take their needs to a newer and better level. “It goes all the way back to Microsoft OCS,” says Greg Zweig, Director, Solutions Marketing at Ribbon Communications. Ribbon, a company whose deep telephony roots and IT DNA reach back to the beginnings of telecommunications. The brands and product lines that went into the making of Ribbon, have been aligning with Microsoft's communications footprint almost from the software giant's earliest entries into the market. In July, Ribbon announced that Beanfield is leveraging Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect to facilitate and enhance its deployment of Operator Connect for Microsoft Teams. An as a Service (aaS) solution, Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect offers portal-based administration tools that enable service providers to simplify selling, provisioning, and billing of telecom services, making it easier for businesses to transition from legacy telephony services to Microsoft Teams Phone. Ribbon Connect dramatically reduces the integration efforts typically required to enable Operator Connect by providing pre-assembled API integration, sales enablement, and a multi-tier portal. The Ribbon Connect portfolio is built with Ribbon's proven carrier-grade security products and services, that are already trusted and deployed in many of the world's largest telecom networks. In this podcast, Zweig walks us through the announcement with Beanfield. Zweig offers a deeper look at Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect. We also learn more about the deep technology connections between Ribbon and Microsoft and the literal presence of Ribbon SBCs in Microsoft's R&D labs. “When they're doing testing, they're actually testing their products against ours, with every release cycle.” Visit www.rbbn.com Beanfield Simplifies Teams Phone Integration with Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect

IoT is a lynchpin to digitizing smart manufacturing, smart cities, and many other industrial enterprises. However, its adoption is often plagued by security concerns. The 5G enhancements that support 1 million devices per square kilometer also increase the attack surface for cybercriminals. An entire business network can be compromised due to vulnerabilities in a connected surveillance camera or even smart bulbs. Though private LTE and 5G networks are theoretically designed for highly secure and controlled network access, are they ready to safely handle the massive influx of connections? Let's find out!Our guest for todays' podcast is Jimmy Jones, the Head of Security for ZARIOT. I have had the privilege of working with Jimmy at many companies, and he is undoubtedly one of the brightest technical minds I have come across with sales acumen. He has held many positions in the tech world, from engineer to sales to business development lead at several companies such as WorldCom, PCI, Positive Technologies, Ribbon Communications, and NexTone. In our discussion today, we will uncover a few things, such as: -       What IoT security gaps enterprises should watch for?-        How does the use of private networks help secure the IoT?-        What were some of the security learnings from the initial stages of IoT deployment that will influence its prospects in the private 5G implementations? and-        What are the biggest challenges companies face when using a private network with IoT connections? So, let us welcome Jimmy Jones.

Communication and collaboration tools have never been more valuable for organizations. The need for them to be adaptable and flexible is also critical. Does it make sense to migrate to a unified platform that integrates all communication and collaboration in one? And what challenges do companies face? Sharing his expertise on the subject is Brian Gregory, Channel Marketing, at Ribbon Communications. “There are so many options on the market, but there's a considerable amount of growth for Teams. One, it's part of the Microsoft suite bundle, so the base version is free. Another reason is they've been in the space for over a decade,” Gregory said. Gregory noted that moving from one platform to another was once an arduous task of business case justification, executive sponsorship, and testing. COVID-19 changed that. “Companies needed something quickly, and Teams gets the work done. A new question is should we integrate voice, too,” he added. Unified communications platforms live entirely in the cloud. Voice was often still an on-premises solution. Now it's thrown into the cloud, too, which can have IT teams concerned about security. Ribbon provides session border controllers (SBCs) to mitigate risk. “An SBC is a firewall for voice. It's purpose-built for VoIP. It's a buffer between the provider network and yours. It's to protect against any infiltration to the network,” Gregory explained.Companies migrating to the cloud but still have legacy interfaces can use SBCs, as well. The company also offers Ribbon Connect for Microsoft Teams. “Ribbon Connect enables you to connect legacy voice environments with Teams. Technology like this can make transitions easier. It also makes sense in today's environment, and this movement is a trend that will continue. Gregory also noted that voice still has a place in business operations, but peer-to-peer communication is much different. “We're not making calls like in the past, so the growth of this collaboration platforms will continue. What we do is help enterprises transition smartly.”

Greg Zweig, Director of Solutions Marketing at Ribbon Communications provides great insight into the trends established during 2020 including Over-The-Top services, Call Centers, UCaaS and CCaaS. Those trends will drive a need for solutions in the future which include a robust SBC. While the SBC provides a cohesive element to the local and cloud-based communication services, it also provides security with real time encryption packet inspection and more. Greg Zweig Today’s SBC needs to monitor the data activity and make sure that no intrusion is made from unauthorized access. Since Voice and Data are now totally integrated on the same network, the voice traffic needs to be protected as much as the data traffic. 2020 has accelerated many changes which are currently taking place. Along with the migration of the PBX to the cloud, dial tone and the SBC are moving there as well. The SBC’s security function is moving to the cloud to protect the virtual enterprise network. Listen in to hear more about the Ribbon SBC’s future. Ribbon's family of next-generation session border controllers (SBCs) provide robust security, simplified interoperability, advanced session management, and carrier-grade reliability for fixed, mobile, cable, and wholesale service providers. Ribbon's SBCs offer powerful deployment flexibility that meets or exceeds the demanding levels of security and service quality for applications such as SIP trunking (including Microsoft Teams Direct Routing), Unified Communications, Network-Network Interconnection, VoLTE, VoWiFi, and RCS. Ribbon SBCs deliver network security, routing and policy management, overload controls, SIP normalization along with IPv4-IPv6 interworking, and robust media transcoding. Communication, collaboration and remote capabilities have always been an integral part of how companies relate with customers and shareholders – and the COVID-19 pandemic has thrust these business drivers even further into the spotlight. To help businesses stay at the leading-edge in the application of these core tools and strategies, IBM and Ribbon Communications have partnered to create an innovative unified communications service ready to deliver powerful results.Ribbon Director of Solutions Marketing, Greg Zweig, joined host Tyler Kern to outline that solution and provide insight about how it will shape the way businesses communicate and develop customer experiences not only during this uncertain period, but well into the “new normal” that is sure to follow.“Ribbon and IBM have actually been working together for a number of years, and, as a result of this COVID-19 situation, we were lucky enough to come up with a way to be able to offer IBM customers no-charge, cloud-based unified communications licenses for our Smart Office Collaboration suite,” Zweig said.Smart Office Collaborations is Ribbon's suite of intuitive, powerful communication tools for delivering voice, video, instant messaging, and more across desktop and mobile devices, allowing users to gain a common experience across virtually any device and reduce the cost and complexity of traditional unified communications deployments. This innovative unified communications as a service, or UCaaS, approach for IBM customers offers a key avenue for companies to remain engaged and productive during this unprecedented time, Zweig said.“As many companies are struggling, and their employees are struggling, to figure out how to work more effectively from home, having some free licenses – and these are available through June 30 of this year – really helps bridge the gap between working in the office and working at home," he said. It's a simple offering, but also a robust one. With this free license, companies will empower their employees to work from any device and connect quickly and efficiently anytime, anywhere, 100% virtually.Combined with third-party integration, custom colors for branding, live-call switching, and IBM's unique ability to serve any company, of any size, anywhere on the planet, it's a truly unmatched offering.Innovating in this space is nothing new for Ribbon – the company prides itself on helping customers “modernize their networks for improved competitive positioning and business outcomes in today's smart, always-on and data-hungry world.”For more information on the partnership between Ribbon and IBM, visit https://ribbon-communications.stories.fabl.co/IBMWorkatHome.For more B2B thought leadership and expertise, visit MarketScale's industry publication pages.
