First came Sulli Deals where Muslim women were put up for an online ‘auction' - there was outrage, but sadly no action - as a result we have Bulli Bai - another online auction that aims to degenerate and silence Muslim voices by virtually ‘auctioning' them. Will this auction - lead to strong action from the authorities?? Or will this go unpunished in the court of law as well? Will this manange to silence Muslim Women who are now being heard internationally??? In this special DESHBHAKT TAKEOVER - we hand over the microphone to RJ Sayema - one of India's best RJs and a prominent voice who also found her name in the ‘auction' …. In the latest episode of The Takeaway Club, I speak with Vignesh Vijayakumar, more popularly known as Body in the Freshworks and Sastra circles. The most accurate way to describe Body would be as an enigma. He probably has at least a thousand friends, making a complete mockery of the Dunbar number - hence the title, Six Degrees of Body. Body and I have a lot in common - we are both from Sastra, love Freshworks, journalism, WWE, pop culture references. In this episode, we both turned to midnight RJs, completely unwinding, having a Joe Rogan-esque conversation on all the topics I've mentioned above. If you are just starting out your career, or still in college, or find yourself nostalgic about life in the 90s, I think you'll definitely cherish this conversation!

As we head towards shore, RJ closes us out with who gives the best head BBWs or skinny women (55:40). ALL ABOARD!!

What are the benefits of producing a podcast, a video series and an annual salary survey? To many recruiters that sounds like a lot of work. Is it really worth all the effort? My special guest, Sean Rigsby, believes that the combination of inbound marketing strategies position you as the ‘go to' recruiter in your space. The salary survey, for example, provides valuable market data for your clients and candidates. It also helps to build your brand and generate inbound leads. In this interview, Sean revealed his process for researching, publishing and promoting his firm's salary survey as well as other brand-building strategies. He also shared practical and golden approaches to making your life easier by working smarter. You will also hear the challenges he had when he shifted to an engaged model and the payoff he is getting now. Sean is the Managing Partner of Rigsby Search Group (RSG) founded in 2012 and recognized by Forbes as one of America's best-recruiting firms. RSG specializes in the environmental industry and has made over 1200 placements nationwide. Episode Outline and Highlights [1:15] What motivated Sean to start a podcast? [6:44] Ways to broaden your brand - doing a salary survey and getting good data. [20:18] Sean's “interview tip of the day” videos and how this approach can help your brand. [28:51] Are you treating your time like the money it is worth? [42:30] Shifting from contingency to an engaged model after 23 years - the risks and rewards [57:30] How the Pinnacle Society helped Sean when he started his own firm. [58:33] Mistakes and learnings when starting your own recruitment business. Building Your Brand People are more likely to do business with you if they know you. That is why marketing and building your brand are important aspects of running your business. Sean shared the specifics of how they do it at Rigsby Search Group. For them, it is not just spreading awareness but also becoming thought leaders and adding value to the industry. Here are the takeaways Podcast - Sean revealed what motivated him to start a podcast and the benefits they are getting from it. Salary Survey - Definitely value-adding to your community, hear how to capture the data and get higher engagement. Interview Tip of the Day - this video making process not only helps your candidates but spreads brand awareness as well. Sean shared their best practices. Working Hard and Working Smart One of the key topics that Sean shared with me is how he makes his life easier by delegating tasks that he hates, allowing him to focus more on more complex tasks in his business. His guiding principle is based on the question of “Are you treating your time like the money it is worth?” Sean admitted, “I wasn't very good at delegating...I would try to do everything.” He then shared how and when you can hand off some tasks to someone else. He shared his thought process on which tasks to delegate. As he summarized, “Which ones I hate and what is the quickest turnaround.” Here are some examples of the time-consuming tasks he is now effectively delegating: Research - hear how he trained his admin to handle candidate sourcing. Taking references and making follow-ups - this one is brilliant, I've never come across anyone else who delegates this task effectively. Shifting From Contingency to an Engaged Model After roughly 23 years in his recruitment career, Sean decided to shift to an engaged or retained search model. He was skeptical at first as he initially felt that it is not fit for his specific industry niche. He shared that he even lost a number of clients when he started asking for part of the fee up front. But what made him decide? And what are the key benefits he is getting now? Sean shared valuable insights from his own experience transitioning to retained/engaged search. Sean Rigsby Bio and Contact Info Sean P. Rigsby, CPC, is the Managing Partner of Rigsby Search Group, LLC. In this episode, Jim Garrity notes that an "update" deposition is just a second deposition in sheep's clothing. And you'd better think twice about allowing it. Garrity tells you how to oppose it, and provides a dozen specific arguments to make. In the interests of balance, he also offers a dozen arguments to make in favor of a second deposition, if you're seeking one. The show notes below contain the full citations to 23 cases on the issue, and on which this episode is based. Cases for this Episode: Finjan, Inc. v. Eset, LLC, et al., Case No.: 17-cv-183 CAB (BGS), 2020 WL 7396551 (S. D. Cal. Dec. 16, 2020) (where court had stayed case as to one of six patents at issue, defendant allowed to redepose Plaintiff once stay was lifted, but second deposition would be “strictly narrowed” to single patent not previously covered in first deposition, and time-limited to ensure focus and proportionality; defendant explicitly forbidden from questioning plaintiff about topics covered in first deposition) MLO Properties, LLC v. City of Cleveland, 1:19-cv-1226, 2020 WL 6818753 (N. D. Ohio June 19, 2020) (plaintiff allowed to re-depose city officials where it it was alleged that city was held crucial documents prior to first depositions; court added that “Plaintiff is cautioned that it is not to cover topics already covered at the October 2019 depositions” and is not to exceed seven hours per redeposed witness, including time spent in each’s first deposition) Williams v. Benshetrit, et al. Case No. 19-797, 2020 WL 3315982 (E. D. Penn. Jun. 18, 2020) (second deposition of witness allowed where plaintiff’s counsel’s objections and instructions not to answer interfered with conduct of deposition; according to the court, “Defendant estimates that during [the witness’] one-hour deposition, [plaintiff’s counsel “interrupted and interjected himself ... approximately 112 times, ” told the witness “not to answer particular questions without asserting valid grounds for an objection,” “directed [the witness] how to answer,” “insinuated that defense counsel’s motive was to harass, humiliate, or embarrass,” and “unilaterally decided which questions were for a “relevant” purpose and which were not”) Medina, et al. v. Yoder Auto Sales, et al., 743 So.2d 621 (Fla. 2d DCA 1999) (state intermediate appellate court noting that its rules governing depositions do not forbid multiple depositions of the same witness) DatabaseUSA.com, LLC v. Van Gilder, et al., No. 8:17-cv-386, 2021 WL 229200 (D. Nebraska Jan. 22, 2021) (redeposition of corporate witness in data misappropriation case denied where (a) examining lawyer’s questions were overbroad and intruded on attorney-client information, and (b) examining lawyer should have rephrased questions based on detailed, narrowly-tailored privilege objections, rather than suspend deposition) Cargill, Incorporated v. Mountain Cement Company, 891 P. 2d 57 (S. Ct. Wyo. 1995) (second deposition of expert denied where defendant’s prior counsel had also deposed expert; held, no abuse of discretion, especially where the defendant was “armed with over three years of discovery materials”) Hawkins v. Lucier, 255 A.D. 553 (N.Y. Sup. Ct. App. Div. 1998) (defense effort to compel third deposition of personal injury plaintiff rejected, where defense failed to make “a detailed showing that the injured plaintiff’s prior testimony was inadequate to cover issues raised” by video surveillance after the second deposition) Lowery v. Noble Drilling Corp., No. CIV-A-96-3968, 1997 WL 675328 (E.D. La. 1997) (second deposition rejected where defendant “waited eight months, until just prior to the final pretrial conference to request leave of Court to re-depose the plaintiff,” and had ample opportunity to obtain information previously) Kleppinger v. Texas Department of Transportation, 283 F.R.D. 330 (S.D. Texas 2012) (re-deposition of plaintiff allowed, where there were eleven defendants, only one of whom was a party when initial deposition was taken, where new information had been developed, and where examinations would also cover areas not specifically covered in detail during first deposition) Fresenius Med. Care Holdings, Inc. v. Roxane Labs., Inc., No. 205-CV-0889, 2007 WL 764302, at *2 (S.D. Ohio Mar. 9, 2007) (A court “may deny leave to conduct a second deposition of [a] witness even if relevant documents are produced subsequent to the deposition if the party taking the deposition either failed to request those documents in a timely fashion or chose to conduct the deposition prior to the completion of document discovery;” held, however, that plaintiff could re-depose witness in patent dispute where key document had been withheld and plaintiff only learned of its existence mid-deposition, and where document was not produced until after deposition) Ganci v. U.S. Limousine Serv., Ltd., No. CV 10-3027 JFB AKT, 2011 WL 4407461, at *2 (E.D.N.Y. Sept. 21, 2011) “Where the deposition is reopened because of newly discovered information, the questioning of the witness is limited to those questions relating to the newly produced information;” held, re-deposition allowed, but limited to two hours and to information learned since first deposition) Companhia Energetica Potiguar v. Caterpillar Inc., No. 14-CV-24277, 2016 WL 11547499, at *7 (S.D. Fla. June 13, 2016), report and recommendation adopted, No. 14-24277-CIV, 2016 WL 7497339 (S.D. Fla. Sept. 20, 2016) (“CAT's request to exclude Fuentes' expert opinions is significantly undermined by its failure to take advantage of the order permitting it to take Fuentes' deposition again and question him about the specific documents and data he listed in his errata sheet”) Noel v. St. Paul Fire & Marine Ins. Co., No. CV 17-752, 2019 WL 97090, at *2 (W.D. La. Jan. 2, 2019) (“Defendants' motion papers establish that [questions about the relationship between Plaintiff and certain witnesses] would be unreasonably cumulative and duplicative of the first deposition, during which defendants had ample opportunity to question plaintiff about his relationship with [them]– and did in fact do so – in addition to deposing both the witness and his wife on the same relationship topic. If defendants have developed information concerning the relationship that undermines the credibility of plaintiff's sworn original deposition answers on this topic, their remedy is to impeach him at trial or other hearing, not to ask him additional questions on the same topic about which they already have or could have questioned him;” held, however, that unopposed motion would be granted to the extent of questions about contact between the plaintiff and certain witnesses since the deposition, and about medical care since the deposition) Babcock Power, Inc. v. Kapsalis, No. 3:13-CV-717-DJH-CHL, 2015 WL 9257759, at *4 (W.D. Ky. Dec. 17, 2015) (re-deposition of plaintiff allowed, but “Plaintiffs are warned that they are not to cover topics already covered at the October 2014 deposition; per plaintiffs' representations to the Court, plaintiffs only seek to depose [the defendant] on the documents produced in August 2015. The deposition shall be limited to two hours”) Echeverria v. Nevada, No. 314CV00320MMDWGC, 2020 WL 1549734, at *3 (D. Nev. Apr. 1, 2020) (“Nonetheless, as Plaintiffs have offered to make him available, NDOC may depose Mr. Steiner again—provided that deposition is limited in scope to the supplements he made to his initial report. Discovery remains closed in this case in all other respects”) In re Gorsoan Ltd., No. 17-CV-5912 (RJS), 2020 WL 6891520, at *3 (S.D.N.Y. Nov. 23, 2020) (court allowed third deposition of party, saying “In [the movant’s] favor is the fact that the party deponent] has repeatedly abused the discovery process in an effort to improperly stymie [the movant’s] efforts, and saying about the party’s prior depositions, “[h]er testimony was almost comical in its implausibility and flagrant obfuscation”) Perry v. Zurich American Insurance Company, et al., 2019 WL 7558133 (E.D. La. 2019) (denying motion seeking “update depositions” of two injured plaintiffs, where purported focus of new depositions was changes in employment, additional medical treatment and changes in medical care; held, information could have and should have been gathered using other discovery methods, and defendant should not have waited until the late stages of the case, and issues can be raised through cross-examination at trial) Ganci v. U.S. Limousine Serv., Ltd., No. CV 10-3027,2011 WL 4407461, at *2 (E.D.N.Y. Sept. 21, 2011) (citations omitted) (“[w]here the deposition is reopened because of newly discovered information, the questioning of the witness is limited to those questions relating to the newly produced information”) Bioconvergence LLC v. Attariwala, 2020 WL 3473453 (S.D. Ind. 2020) (second deposition of defendant allowed for the specific purpose of allowing plaintiff to determine defendant’s compliance with court’s prior preliminary injunction; however, subject matter of deposition strictly limited to issue of compliance, and further limited to three hours in duration) Matter of Tara Crosby, LLC, No. CV 17-5391, 2019 WL 5634182, at *4 (E.D. La. Oct. 31, 2019) (“In order to for the Court to find circumstances warranting the retaking of Claimants' deposition, a change in situation beyond a mere update of Claimants' current physical capabilities, limitations, and employment status and that Petitioners were unable to acquire in the first deposition would need to arise. Without this more drastic change in circumstances, the second depositions would simply be “a rehash of information already disclosed.” Petitioners have made no representation to the Court, at the hearing or in their post-hearing brief, that constitutes such a change in circumstance. As such, the Court finds the mere lapse in time from the taking of Claimants' original deposition to now does not constitute the sort of change in circumstance envisioned by the rules. Thus, the Court finds the second depositions of Claimants Pitre and Herbert unnecessarily cumulative and duplicative”) Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Aker Mar., Inc., No. CIV.A. 03-2027, 2007 WL 1558710, at *1 (E.D. La. May 30, 2007) (second deposition denied; “Any benefit from permitting yet another deposition on this issue in this case is far outweighed by its burden, particularly at this late stage of a case that has been pending for almost four years”) Garrett v. Dep't of Corr. of Fla., No. 5:06CV400OC10GRJ, 2007 WL 5844122, at *2 (M.D. Fla. Oct. 1, 2007) (second deposition of Plaintiff denied; “While there is no doubt that Defendant may derive some benefit if it conducts an updated deposition of Plaintiff, the Defendant could have and should have made this request a long time ago and not shortly before trial”) Karr v. Four Seasons Mar., Ltd., No. CIV.A.02-3413, 2004 WL 797728, at *6 (E.D. La. Apr. 12, 2004) (second deposition denied; “In the instant case, defendants have already deposed Karr and have had ample opportunity by discovery to obtain the information now being sought. They have not provided any evidence that the information sought is not obtainable from some other source that is more convenient, less burdensome or less expensive”)

Panel Introductions And What We’re Drinking Tonight we’re joined by most of our usual panel members, we have our wine blogger, Jeff Solomon, our commercial brewer, John Ruyak, and I’m your host, Jeff Eckles. Monthly tasting episode featuring British beer Wine, Beer, or Pop Culture Reference Shatterhand British Beer Tasting Listener Question Doley asks - Any tips on a home wine making kit? Nothing elaborate, but preferably using real grapes, not concentrate. Planning for my retirement. From Steven Sealock, winemaker at Pacific Rim Winery: Home winemaking is like sailing a small boat. Things can go wrong fast. Some small wineries will sell grapes to individuals. Reds are complicated from a color extraction perspective. Whites are arguably easier to make but harder to cold stabilize. From Zeta Cellars, a home winemaker, that makes wine using grapes, and some damn fine ones if I do have to say: High end wine kits can sometimes come with skins. Skins in a wine kit allows the wine maker to get more extraction than a regular kit offers. Making wine from actual grapes will require large investments and a big jump in the learning curve. It’s not for everyone and one can mess up a good product very easily. Have him look up the company RJS on the internet. They have a number of kits with skins. If he wants to get frustrated and discouraged early than yes give him advice to buy vitis vinifera grapes and go from there... haha, not for the faint of heart Last call That’s right, it's time to break out your phones and get that last minute hook up with us. This episode opens with a discussion on the 'No Scars cream' advertisement sent in by a listener. Rajyasree describes her experience of watching the advertisement as, “No Scars is a whitening cream, and darkness is like a scar. I just found it bizarre, and it's so badly written, this ad.”Then, a chat about the government's new PSA on mosquitoes. “Whoever's made that ad either loves mosquitoes or hates children," says Abhinandan.Next, a discussion on Netflix's first original Indian series, Sacred Games. “The production quality, the scripting, the acting, they've just nailed it," remarks Rajyasree. “There are very few things that one could say is wrong with this series," Abhinandan adds.On the use of voiceover and file footage as commentary for Indian pop culture of the time, Abhinandan remarks, “I think it works because it had political context, but sometimes, I felt it was a bit forced.”Varun Grover, a co-writer of the show, joins the panel. On the source material, he says, “There are some characters we have removed from the book…because we wanted to focus on the religion and the thriller element, and the war of civilizations in a way.”Then, a glimpse into the writing process: “We started meeting in August 2016, and discussing the ideas, themes, and characters. After 3 months, we started fleshing out the thing into a major season arc. Third stage came in January 2017 when we started writing the episode outlines, putting together all the character arcs, and putting them under the POV of Sartaj or Gaintonde.” This was followed by a year of writing episodes.Grover also discusses working with the source material's author. “Vikram Chandra has been very generous and open to new ideas. When we shared it with him the first time, he never asked us ‘why did you drop this'….he just accepted it and start giving ideas on how to improve it.”For more on this, RJs giving love advice, and the trailer of Fanney Khan, listen up! Panel: Chris Fritz Joe Eames Divya Sasidharan Special Guest: Eduardo San Martin Morote In this episode, the panel talks with Eduardo San Martin Morote who is a member of the Vue.js team, a speaker, and trainer who currently resides in France. The panelists and Eduardo talk about developing games, coding, WebAssembly, C++, Vue, Angular, memory management, and much more! Check it out! Show Topics: 0:00 – Advertisement – Kendo UI 0:33 – Chris: Today’s panel is Joe Eames who organizes many different conferences. 1:09 – Joe: That was long introduction! Hi everyone! I organize an Angular conference, too; it’s very small. 1:26 – Chris: Divya is also on our panel and is an awesome speaker and conference organizer. Our special guest is Eduardo San Martin Morote! 1:55 – Chris: Actually it’s good that I get your full name. I do speak a little bit of Spanish. 2:17 – Panel goes back-and-forth. 2:33 – Guest: It was good and sounded like American Spanish. 2:47 – Chris: This is about Eduardo and not my Spanish. You used to be a game developer? 3:08 – Guest. 3:17 – Chris: You wrote a lot of C++? 3:20 – Guest: Yep! 3:22 – Chris. 3:50 – Guest: It’s optimized – you can handle 1 million requests per second – but that doesn’t happen unless it’s a huge organization. 4:24 – Chris: Can you talk about C++? Compare it to JavaScript? 4:37 – Joe talks about transferring from JavaScript to C++. 4:48 – Guest: I am an instructor, too, and teach Vue.js to people. The thing to me is the variable scoping of functions. 5:50 – Chris: Variable scoping – let’s not get into too much detail, cause we are an audio medium. 6:10 – Guest: When you look at the syntax and create classes with JavaScript...I think C++ has always had classes from the beginning. 6:58 – Chris: I used to write things back in the day with C++. I remember some features that were added later that I never got to take advantage of. I can’t remember what they were. I thought classes were one of those things. It won’t be a fruitful line of discussion cause I would be guessing. Chris: What’s different about C++ is that the types are more important? 7:57 – Guest: It’s not that it’s important it’s necessary. 8:27 – Guest: Pointers are an integer that... 8:47 – Guest continues. 8:52 – Chris: In C++ when you say memory management you are... 9:23 – Guest talks about integers, JavaScript, memory, C++, and building games! Check out this discussion here! 11:00 – Panelist talks about web assembly and asks a question. 11:23 – Guest: You will always have...the thing is that you are always getting the most out of the hardware. Computers keep getting faster and faster and people are building games with more effects. 11:53 – (Guest continues): Native video games will always be a step ahead of what web assembly can achieve. 12:50 – Have you heard of Blazor (from Microsoft)? (No.) You write it all in C#. Panel talks about Silver Light. 13:57 – Chris: What is different about web assembly compared to trans-piled to JS languages that are basically Ruby. That compile to JavaScript – you don’t have to write the JavaScript (it’s basically Ruby) and your browser will interpret the JavaScript. 14:42 – Divya: Doesn’t it run on the GPU? That it runs on the graphic card? 14:55 – Chris: It works at a very low-level. Take any language and have the same low access that languages do (low as safely as possible) in the browser b/c there is still security concerns. 15:27 – Guest. 15:43 – Chris: What if I am using Canvas? 15:54 – Guest: ...the logic of your game will be faster. 16:20 – Chris: You have more fine-grained control? And you can control the speed of operations? 16:25 – Guest: You should be able to. If you are using a program like C++... 17:02 – Chris: I don’t know this...I know that JavaScript is an interpretive language you read it from top to bottom... 17:25 – Panel: Can JavaScript read from top to bottom? I thought you had to see the entire thing? Correct me if I am wrong? 17:45 – Chris: Yeah, yeah – absolutely. 17:52 – Panel: I think that’s roughly accurate. We are way off topic! 18:21 – Chris: Would it be accurate (since we aren’t all experts), but it sounds like web assembly is that it does work on a lower level than JavaScript, so it’s possible to achieve optimizations that wouldn’t be possible with JavaScript. Is that true? 18:58 – Divya: I think you could say that...there is an article by Lin Clark that you should check out! 19:37 – Panel: See link to show notes to find article and here! 19:48 – Chris: What got you started into web development? Why no longer game development? 20:02 – Guest: When I started coding at 13-14 years old. It’s funny b/c at 15 years old I was coding and I didn’t even know that I was doing it. 22:41 – Chris: Toxic like...? 22:50 – Guest: Before I was thinking of the long hours and people were working too much, and not getting the recognition that they deserve. It was toxic, and it was a diverse environment. I realized that diversity is very important. The field is changing, but that’s why. 23:42 – Chris. 23:52 – Chris: Something else, it sounds like more familiar with C++ is TypeScript. Talk about that please? 24:17 – Guest: What got me into it were the generic types. 24:30 – Chris: What is a generic? 24:44 – Guest talks about generics. He mentions integers and other terms. 25:30 – Panel helps to clarify about generics, too. 27:08 – Panel: I got into generics when... Panel: Did you get into generics around the same time as C++? 27:27 – Guest. 28:00 – Panel: Where I see generics being used is with RJS. 28:33 – Advertisement – Get A Coder Job! 29:15 – Chris: What is the point? 29:19 – Guest: I think there are many points of view with this. When I build my libraries... 31:37 – Chris: You said that in VS code but I can get that in JavaScript. What is the extra advantage of using TypeScript on top of that? 32:00 – Guest. 32:14 – Chris: Let’s say I ignore the auto-completion, I type quickly – would TypeScript give me a warning? 32:31 – Guest: Yes that is true. If you use it with JavaScript you probably won’t have an error. 33:05 – Chris: A compile time... You mentioned that you could enable some of these checks in JavaScript. How do you do that? Say you have an editor like VS Code, but can actually when there is a potential error? 33:47 – Guest: For a project you have to create a... 34:20 – Chris asks a question. 34:28 – Guest: Yes, I think it does. Pretty sure it does. 34:37 – Chris and Guest go back-and-forth. 35:05 – Chris: See Show Notes for TS Config. 35:10 – Panel. 35:53 – Chris: If they choose not to use TypeScript what are the downsides? 36:05 – Panel talks about his experience and why people might not use TypeScript. He also mentioned CoffeeScript, C#, and JavaScript. He gives an analogy of riding a motorcycle and a truck. 38:04 – Panelist continues. He says that people love the freedom of JavaScript. 39:23 – Chris: If most of your bugs aren’t being caught by... 40:00 – Panel: Something that looks and sees and fits super well doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea. A big project is totally different. When you dip your toe in the water it might be more overhead that you don’t’ need. You have to think about the smaller / larger cases. I think that’s why Vue is getting a lot of popularity. 41:15 – Chris: I don’t think I have found anyone coming from JavaScript that say that TypeScript is not worth it. 41:41 – Guest: I like TypeScript I don’t like writing applications in TypeScript. I like writing my libraries somewhere else. The flexibility that you have in JavaScript helps a lot. I don’t like my components to be typed. It’s a new paradigm, and I think that’s why people like it. 2:22 – Aimee: How did you dive into Docker? I feel that is like backend space? 2:35 – Julian: I am a full stack engineer and I have been in backend, too. 3:10 – Aimee: I know that someone has been in-charge of our Dev Ops process until the first job I’ve had. When there is a problem in the deployment, I want to unblock myself and not wait for someone else. I think it’s a valuable topic. Why Docker over the other options? 3:58 – Julian: Let’s talk about what Docker is first? 4:12 – Chuck. 4:23 – Julian: Containers are a technology for us to run applications in isolation from each other. Julian talks in-detail about what contains are, what they do, he gives examples, and more. Check it out here! 5:27 – Chuck: Makes sense to me. I think it’s interesting that you are talking about the dependencies. Because of the way the Docker works it’s consistent across all of your applications. 5:59 – Julian. Yes, exactly. Julian talks about containers some more! 6:56 – Chuck asks a question about the container, Docker, and others. 7:03 – Guest: You don’t have to worry about your company’s running operating system, and what you want to use – basically everything runs in the container... 7:30 – Chuck: This short-circuits a lot of it. 7:46 – Guest. 8:00 – Chuck: People will use Docker if your employer mandates it. Is there a learning curve and how do you adapt it within the person’s company? 8:25 – Guest. 8:52 – Aimee: We are using it, too. 8:57 – Guest: Awesome! 9:03 – Aimee: The only downfall is that if you have people who are NOT familiar with it – then it’s a black box for us. We can’t troubleshoot it ourselves. I want to be able to unblock from our end w/o having to go to someone else. That’s my only issue I’ve been having. 10:03 – Guest: I want to see that tooling to be honest. 10:12 – Aimee: Can you talk about how Civil and Docker work together? 10:19 – Guest: Yes! Julian answers the question. 10:56 – Chuck: How much work it is to get a Docker file to get up and running? How much work would it take? 11:18 – Guest: For the development side in about an hour or two – this is if you understand it already. Putting it into production that’s a different story b/c there is a million different ways to do it. Our frontend and our backend are different. We are getting 500’s and it’s a black box for us. It’s the way that ops have it setup. I hate having to go to them for them to unblock us. 21:07 – Chuck: I have been hearing about Kubernetes. I do like having... 42:27 – Guest continues. 43:35 – Chris: Why is it different bad or different good? 43:40 – Guest: It’s bad. 43:53 – Chris: What hurts your development? 44:00 – Guest: You get typing errors. Panel: Aimee Knight AJ O’Neal Joe Eames Charles Max Wood Chris Ferdinandi Special Guest: Julian Fahrer In this episode, the panel talks with Julian Fahrer who is an online educator and software engineer in San Francisco, California (USA). The panel and the guest talk about containers, tooling, Docker, Kubernetes, and more. Check out today’s episode! Show Topics: 0:00 – Advertisement: KENDO UI 1:00 – Chuck: We have today Julian. Julian, please tell us why you are famous? 1:10 – Julian (Guest): I am a software engineer in San Francisco. 1:35 – Chuck: We had you on Elixir Mix before – so here you are! Give us a brief introduction – tell us about the 1:56 – Julian: About 11 hours. You can get it done in about 1 week. It’s a lot to learn. It’s hard to put a time on that. 12:24 – Chuck: Let’s assume they have the basic knowledge (they get how server setup takes place) is this something you could figure out in a day or so? 12:47 – Guest: If you have touched Docker then you can do it in a day; if never then not really. 13:02 – Guest: There might be some stones you will fall over. 13:39 – Panel: The part of the learning curve would be... 13:52 – Guest: The idea behind the container is that the container should be disposable. You could throw it away and then start a new one and it’s fresh and clean. Guest continues with his answer. 15:20 – Chuck: I have seen people do this with their database engine. If you need to upgrade your database then they grab their container... 15:55 – Guest: You don’t have to worry about setting it up - its provided in the container and... 16:09 – Chuck asks a question. 16:17 – Guest: For production, I would go with a hosted database like RJS, Azure, or other options. Guest continues. 17:13 – Chuck. 17:20 – Guest: If it dies then you need to... 17:30 – Chuck: We talked about an idea of these containers being something you can hand around in your development team. Chuck asks a question. 17:50 – Guest answers the question. He talks about tooling, containers, web frontend, and more. 18:48 – Guest asks Aimee a question: Are you using Compost? 18:50 – Aimee: I don’t know b/c that is a black box for us. I don’t know much about our Docker setup. 19:00 – Guest to Aimee: Can I ask you some questions? 19:14 – Guest is giving Aimee some hypothetical situations and asks what their process is like. 19:32 – Aimee answers the question. 20:11 – Guest: You have customizing tooling to be able to do x, y, and z. 20:25 – Aimee: They have hit a wall, but it’s frustrating. Our frontend and our backend are different. We are getting 500’s and it’s a black box for us. It’s the way that ops have it setup. I hate having to go to them for them to unblock us. 21:07 – Chuck: I have been hearing about Kubernetes. When will you start to see that it pays off to use it? 21:20 – Guest answers the question. 22:17 – If I have a simple app on a few different machines and front end and job servers I may not need Kubernetes. But if I have a lot of things that it depends on then I will need it? 22:35 – Guest: Yes. 22:40 – Chuck: What are the steps to using it? 22:45 – Guest: Step #1 you install it. The guest goes through the different steps to use Docker. 25:23 – Aimee: It makes sense that your UI and your database don’t live in the same container, but what about your API and your database should that be separate? 25:40 – Guest: Yes they should be separate. 26:09 – Chuck: What has your experience been with Docker – AJ or Chris? 26:17 – Panel: I have used a little bit at work and so far it’s been a black box for me. I like the IDEA of it, but I probably need to take Julian’s course to learn more about it! (Aimee agrees!) One thing I would love (from your perspective, Julian) – if I wanted to get started with this (and say I have not worked with containers before) where would I start? 28:22 – Advertisement – Sentry.io 29:20 – Guest: Good question. You don’t have to be an expert (to use Docker), but you have to be comfortable with the command line, though. 30:17 – Panel: Is there a dummy practice within your course? 30:27 – Julian: We run our own web server and... 30:44 – Panel: I need to check out your course! 31:04 – Guest: It is some time investment, but it’s saved me so much time already so it makes it really worth it. 31:38 – Panel: You are a version behind on Ruby. 31:46 – Guest: ...I just want to make code and not worry about that. 32:04 – Chuck: Updating your server – you would update Ruby and reinstall your gems and hope that they were all up-to-date. Now you don’t have to do it that way anymore. 32:37 – Guest: You know it will behave the same way. 32:48 – Guest: I have some experience with Docker. I understand its value. I guess I will share my frustrations. Not in Docker itself, but the fact that there is a need for Docker... 35:06 – Chuck. 35:12 – Panel: We need someone to come up with... 35:40 – Panel: It’s not standard JavaScript. 35:51 – Chuck: One question: How do you setup multiple stages of Docker? 36:12 – Guest: The recommended way is to have the same Docker file used in the development sate and through to production. This episode opens with a discussion on the 'No Scars cream' advertisement sent in by a listener. Rajyasree describes her experience of watching the advertisement as, “No Scars is a whitening cream, and darkness is like a scar. I just found it bizarre, and it’s so badly written, this ad.”Then, a chat about the government’s new PSA on mosquitoes. “Whoever’s made that ad either loves mosquitoes or hates children," says Abhinandan.Next, a discussion on Netflix’s first original Indian series, Sacred Games. “The production quality, the scripting, the acting, they’ve just nailed it," remarks Rajyasree. “There are very few things that one could say is wrong with this series," Abhinandan adds.On the use of voiceover and file footage as commentary for Indian pop culture of the time, Abhinandan remarks, “I think it works because it had political context, but sometimes, I felt it was a bit forced.” Varun Grover, a co-writer of the show, joins the panel. Third stage came in January 2017 when we started writing the episode outlines, putting together all the character arcs, and putting them under the POV of Sartaj or Gaintonde.” This was followed by a year of writing episodes.Grover also discusses working with the source material’s author. “Vikram Chandra has been very generous and open to new ideas. When we shared it with him the first time, he never asked us ‘why did you drop this’….he just accepted it and start giving ideas on how to improve it.”For more on this, RJs giving love advice, and the trailer of Fanney Khan, listen up! After Holly and Rodney’s eldest son, RJ, was diagnosed with autism, HollyRod’s mission expanded to provide resources to families affected by an autism diagnosis. One in 68 children are diagnosed with autism every year. 50% of these children have extreme difficulty learning how to speak, while 25% of them never will. HollyRod launched the RJ’s Place grant in 2014 to provide assistive technology to children’s hospitals and autism centers. As these children grow, they require vocational training and specialized job placement assistance to transition to mainstream life and gainful employment. Our RJ’s Place grants now support toddlers to young adults in over a dozen locations across the U.S. and Canada with a dozen more scheduled by 2018. The HollyRod foundation is dedicated to providing compassionate care to those living with autism and Parkinson’s disease. We seek to fill an unmet need by providing compassionate care and services to underserved individuals and families that are burdened financially and emotionally by a diagnosis. We strive to help individuals live the best life possible. http://www.hollyrod.org

I think the portability factor is perfect for indies, but many indies today are often $20 to $30 each. Here's an idea for your viewers with access to an Xbox One. Microsoft offers a 14 day free trial to Game Pass, and it offers access to many games, including several indies new to the Switch. I was able to join Game Pass on a free trial, and try out The Final Station and Rime, both games I'm interested in for Switch but was weary of paying $20 or $30 upfront without being sure I'd enjoy them. Period. Gather ‘round kids. Let me tell you of why I think this podcast is the absolute pinnacle of Nintendo Switchery podcast perfection….First and foremost , RJS has the voice, the disposition, and maybe most importantly) a love for all things Nintendo. Put all that together in a padded studio and you’re cooking with gas my man. The show lasting on average 30 minutes is absolutely perfect for someone like me who is just about always slammed with work, traveling, or just trying to catch up on sleep, I can always squeeze in a half hour show to get caught up on the latest and greatest news within the Nintendo universe. I really can’t say enough good things about the show; it’s my all time favourite and I highly recommend it to anyone who is just as much of a Nintendo fan as I am. Thanks again RJS. I wish you lots of success in the future. I’ll be there supporting you every step of the way!JCavuto gave 2 stars and said there are many better Nintendo podcasts out thereSevin Korbo gave 1 start - Just falls short of what other podcasts bring to the table. One person rattling off news by himself does not a good podcast make. Yeah he has a nice voice, but I can’t stand it for so long, unbroken by any other voices or other opinion. That’s what makes Nintendo Voice Chat so good, they have multiple people with diverse gaming backgrounds. One person just can't cover all the Switch has to offer from a place of authority.JJeco also gave one star - A little one noteEmail Karl Emailed - Hey there, hope you are well.I have four friends who own a switch. Yet I'm the only one to have downloaded the Switch online app. There reasons for not downloading is that it's very bare bones, and is not particularly useful.I've come up with a couple of simple ideas which could entice people to use the app. Access to the E shop, allow me to buy content, when I'm away from my switch. Allow me to buy Amiibo data, and use my phones NFC to use data on my switch. Some of the Amiibo are hard to find, and some folk do not want the figures. Having a digital collection with out the clutter but all the benefits would be great. Access to my game screen shots. Take a pic in game, Up load to Lakitu (the Nintendo cloud) and have access to them on my phone, to do with as I want. Most people take there phone everywhere, so have some sort of street pass, maybe swap friend codes of people you pass. Are there any features you think would make the app better .........VoicemailNewsNindies @ Night stream on HyperRPGShovel Knight AmiiboNYKO unveils their portable dockNBA2K

Bonus points for RJS being transparent and open as a host. Podcasting solo isn’t easy and he does it with easy. If you’re a Nintendo fan, you should be listening, end of story.Jon sent in an emailHey hey!So my buddy came over this weekend for splat fest and we were chit chatting about Splatoon stuff. One of the conversations was about Salmon Run and playing it locally. We both love Salmon Run, and I love how you can get different things for playing Salmon Run (special shirts, hats etc.). My friend said "I wonder how and if the Salmon Run is different if you just play locally instead of playing online". Now the online Salmon Run, as we all know, is at certain times/days. Whereas the local Salmon Run you can do whenever. I just said, without really thinking, "It's probably the same thing, but I doubt you get rewards for playing it". He quickly came back with (snobby voice) "Why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it?"(I should also add that I really don't know how Salmon Run is different from online to local play; I didn't try it, but that’s not the point)This brings me to the main point of this email.I feel like we're getting more into this routine where online multiplayer games need to give you some sort of "rewards" for playing the game. I don't play many online competitive games, but thinking of games like Call of Duty or something, you level up your account, level up your weapons, etc. The game is always giving you something the more you play. You can unlock different mods for weapons, different gear or abilities. It's tough for me to think of an online multiplayer game that doesn't have a system like this. How important is it for new games to give you "something" the more you play?Would Salmon Run be as fun if there were no rewards for it? Are we moving into a new time where we don't just play games for "fun" anymore? Do we need something to make all our work feel like it's worth it?I'm curious to see where games go from here. I think it would be difficult for a new game to come out without some sort of level up system and unlockables. However, the main point of any game is to have fun and enjoy the time you invest into that game. When he said why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it, I wanted to slap him and say "Because it's fun!!!".Anyway, this sounded way better in my head. I hope you get the main point I'm going for. I'd love to hear your take on this. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thank your for all the entertainment.-Jon/Link31254NewsNintendo World Championships 2017!Any Controller possibly coming to Switch Sorry Joeseph

Selling our home is something we will probably only do an handful of times in our lifetime. So how do we make sure we are getting the right advice and assistance from the people who do this everyday? Ralph Shalom from RJS estates talks about the role of the estate agent and about what we should be looking for when choosing an agent.
Episode 15 deep dives into the programming experiences of Adam Solove (@asolove), Head of Engineering at Pagemodo. Adam has spent the last ten years building web interfaces various technologies such as CGI, Flash, DHTML, RJS, jQuery, and many MVC JavaScript frameworks. Adam has found over his career that working with a more functional style of programming is much more rewarding in many ways. Functional programming and FRP (Functional Reactive Programming) provides improvements in performance and purposely avoids changing-state and mutable data. This can be an extremely effective technique in web application development because of the stateful nature of DOM (Document Object Model) implementations in the browser. Adam evangelizes and works with several languages and tools to provide incredible functional style applications including, but not limited to, Elm, ClojureScript, OM, & React.js. Facebook's React.js, met with mixed reviews when it was first released in 2013. Since then it has been stirring up support in droves within the JavaScript development community do to it's high UI performance output in browsers. It's Virtual DOM and ways of solving data & DOM performance problems have been highly criticized but hard to ignore. React has an effective unorthodox way of thinking about UI. Elm, a functional reactive language for interactive applications, combines core features of functional languages like immutability & type inference with FRP to Create highly interactive applications without callbacks or shared state. Elm is similar in syntax to Haskell and it compiles to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that uses a Virtual DOM model similar in concepts to that of react.js. According to Elm's internal benchmarks, using it's compiled JavaScript code is actually faster than any JavaScript framework tested by a extreme margin. ClojureScript, is a new compiler for Clojure that targets JavaScript. It is designed to emit JavaScript code which is compatible with the advanced compilation mode of the Google Closure optimizing compiler. David Nolen, has taken ClojureScript and created an interface for react.js called OM. Om allows for simple represention of Web Application User Interfaces as an EDN. ClojureScript data is immutable data, which means that Om can always rapidly re-render the UI from the root. According to the project description, UIs created with Om are inherently able to create & manage historical snapshots with no implementation complexity and little overhead.
