Born in 1950 in San Diego, California, Jeff Divine is one of surfing's preeminent photographers and photo editors. Divine began photographing anything and everything around his hometown of La Jolla, California, as a teenager. Surfer magazine first published his photos in 1968, and by the early 1970s his work was all over the surf sphere. He shot everything—water and action, portraiture, lifestyle, landscapes, travel. He was the photo editor for Surfer from 1981 to 1998, then occupied the same position at The Surfer's Journal until 2016. He's published several books, among them Masters of Surf Photography: Jeff Divine, Surfing Photographs From the Seventies Taken by Jeff Divine, and Surfing Photographs From the Eighties Taken by Jeff Divine. His work has been featured in many gallery and museum exhibitions. Our guest today is Andy King, world champion surfing coach of Mick Fanning and Gabriel Medina, among others. We delved into his youth where he was well on the way to becoming a pro surfer, until one night out in Cronulla he was king hit and suffered a catastrophic brain injury that changed the course of his life. We spoke about the sunken place he was in, deciding to get back in the water after 14 doctors told him he would be disabled for the rest of his life, the mental challenge of surviving without hearing or equilibrium, his comeback to mentoring young surfers for Red Bull and then coaching Mick Fanning to three world titles, receiving a wake up call from Andy Irons, the development of his coaching philosophy and disagreeing with the “all or nothing” mindset when it comes to becoming a champion, partying with the “lunatic” Fisher, and now coaching current world champion Gabriel Medina, who he says has taught him more about life in one year than he's learnt in the past 10 combined. Chilli gives advice for those ordering a surfboard, and the importance of volume and length. And we even discuss PU and EPS, and the importance of glassing and blanks. Chilli even tells us about his experience with Kelly Slater and his competitive nature when he wouldn't let Chilli's 10yo son beat him in a basketball game! Haha! 'Andy Irons: Kissed By God' tells the story of one of the greatest surfers in history, a kid who grew up on the North Shore of Kauai and was touring the globe in his teens.

The details behind technical catastrophes, nearly stolen prize money, Graham's relationship with Andy Irons, and what the WSL might do with wave pools. Plus way more. Graham was an executive at Billabong for more than 10 years. And before that, he was the CEO of the ASP - remember that? The ASP? It's what the world tour used to be before it became the WSL. Graham has been a part of professional surfing since its inception and today he has one of the most intense and exciting jobs in all of surfing at the WSL, overseeing more than 180 events a year. This episode was recorded at the WSL North American offices in Huntington Beach during the U.S. Open of Surfing.
