Send us a textThe press release headline grabbed my attention: “SELCO Community Credit Union Awards $200,000 Grant to SquareOne Villages for the Development of the Rosa Village Co-Op in Eugene.”SELCO has been on the show before, with Olivia Sorensen,Senior Community Development Specialist for SELCO, talking about SELCO Steps Up, where the credit union thoughtfully seeks to do good in its communities while addressing societal challenges.In this latest case, SELCO - a $2.7 billion credit union based in Oregon - reached out to SquareOne Villages, which builds affordable housing and got involved with its Rosa Village project which will include 52 units. The units will house the presently unhoused as well as those who struggle to pay market rate rents.Ingenious on the part of SELCO is that its $200,000 grant was funded to the tune of $150,000 by a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines which had a 3X match program.On the show are Sorensen who explains why SELCO is behind this as well as Amanda Dellinger, SquareOne's Community Relations Director.Mentioned on the show is a recent US Supreme Court decision involving the homeless and housing. Raphael Warnock, who won last time through Georgia vote fraud in a runoff election got another mystery ballot drop to boost him ahead of flawed Republican candidate Herschel Walker. That means the result will be delayed until next month with a yet another runoff election. Just like last time, we expect the Democrat to win by fraud. * In 97% of primary runoff elections fewer people voted in the second round than in the first. The average decline in turnout was 38% and the median decline was 37%. * With all the documentation of computer and mail-in ballot vote fraud that has been documented since November 2020, why would the Democrats give up all that illicit power and play it straight when they were facing a broad-based defeat? They wouldn't and they didn't. But, they did try to be much more subtle and secret about it this time around knowing how close they came to having the truth about fraud revealed last election. They couldn't afford to have such a massive overwhelming Democrat victory that would be impossible to explain. So, we believe they carefully watched each crucial race and added just enough ballots and flipped just enough computer votes to accomplish their purpose. * What this tells us is that someone is watching the results, holding a batch of Dem ballots in reserve and then injecting them to skew the final tally. Sometimes they do this early, sometimes later in the tally. * The Wrong People Are Prmoting Desantis! * Along with blaming of Donald Trump for the lack of a powerful red wave, the establishment is clearly trying to promote Ron Desantis to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. Some 800 million people globally – as many as a quarter of them in India – have no access to electricity. Far more suffer routine brownouts and power cuts. The result puts the rural poor, who are most impacted, at a severe disadvantage in every way: Health-care services are crippled, education is compromised, and entire communities are cut off from modern industrial and digital livelihoods. In short, a key determinant of social equity goes missing.   Harish Hande, an energy engineer, started SELCO in 1995 to pioneer the delivery of decentralized solar power to India's rural poor. He built an entire ecosystem around their needs: system designs tailored to their unique demands, affordable financing fit to their cash flow, culturally attuned service providers, and a network of partners dedicated to solving their hyper-specific problems. While other companies shunned the poor as unprofitable, Hande built a profitable business by catering to them. Through the non-profit SELCO Foundation, he's now scaling up by nurturing other companies and nonprofits to replicate his model–across India and in other developing countries in Asia and Africa. She was a research fellow at the Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford from 2008 to 2012, researching and teaching on climate adaptation and resilience. She has also taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and engaged in clean energy advocacy work in her home state of Hawaii. Kamal holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California, Berkeley. During the 12-week long program, you become part of a global community of hundreds of climate changemakers. You form study groups, hang out in video calls with alumni and have lifetime access to this network. These are your future co-founders, employers, comrades. On graduating, students see dozens of projects from some of the top climate organizations in the world. Students are able to choose those that best leverage their own skills and can team up with their community and work directly on challenging problems to solve climate change. What can we learn about resilience from street vendors? Just about everything, says Harish Hande of SELCO, an organization that delivers decentralized solar energy to the poor in India.
