Home inspections might be optional, but the peace of mind they can bring by saving both buyers and sellers from unexpected expenses and headaches down the line makes them worth doing. As REALTORS®, you know there are times when inspections might slow the process or seem less-than-necessary at first glance, so, it's important to know what red flags to look for and be able to advise your clients about bringing in an inspector. On the latest episode of the REAL TIME podcast, certified home inspector Victoria Ballantine joins host Shaun Majumder to reinforce the value of a home inspection not only when you're buying or selling, but even before you list a home. Why? Well, you'll have to listen to find out. Learn more about Victoria Ballantine and her home inspection process at AllegiantInspections.ca.

For years, actor/comedian Tim Progosh has wondered: with all the great comedians Canada has produced over the years, why is there no Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame?Progosh has done more than wonder. He's made it happen. For more than 20 years, his efforts have been stymied by celebrations cut short by the 9/11 attacks, by deals falling through during a recession, by COVID and actor strike interruptions. Who knew saluting the funny was such a serious and challenging business? On this podcast episode, Progosh tells how -- while still set on an eventual brick and mortar venue -- he was able to gain the political smarts to get a virtual Hall off the ground. This year's inductees include Eugene Levy and Martin Short, the cast of SCTV as a troupe, Jim Carrey and Red Green Show star and creator Steve Smith and even late great Hilarious House of Frightenstein comedy chameleon Billy Van. Going even further back, early film star Marie Dressler and radio's The Happy Gang also made the Hall. Festivities and live comedy shows take place in Hamilton, Ont., Feb. 21 through 24. Go see the shows (featuring Ron James, Shaun Majumder and other comedians) but first listen as Progosh salutes his Canadian comedy heroes on this week's laugh out loud episode of brioux.tv: the podcast.

A new television show on CBC puts world-class sand sculptors in the path of the unrelenting waters of the Bay of Fundy. Host Jeff Douglas spoke with the hilarious Shaun Majumder about his experience hosting Race Against the Tide and what he's learned about sand sculpting.
This week on the Richard Crouse Show Podcast we get to know best-selling author Guy Vanderhaeghe. His previous fiction includes the award winning "A Good Man," "The Last Crossing," "The Englishman's Boy." He is a three -time Governor General's Award winner. He has the Writers' Trust Timothy Findley Award, and the Harbourfront Literary Prize. He has received many other honours including the Order of Canada. His first novel in nearly a decade is "August Into Winter" is an epic story of crime and retribution, of war and its long shadow, and of the redemptive possibilities of love. Guy Vanderhaeghe joined me via Zoom from Saskatchewan Then comedian and actor Shaun Majumder joins me to talk about his new CBC television show "Race Against the Tide." On the show 10 teams of two world-class, highly skilled sand sculptors compete to create extraordinary works of art made entirely out of sand while avoiding elimination. Not only are these best-in-show duos competing against each other, they are competing against, as the press release says, “Mother Nature's unstoppable ticking clock and the world's highest tide at New Brunswick's iconic and beautiful Bay of Fundy.”
Former "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" standout Shaun Majumder talks about his latest TV effort, "Race Against the Tide," (premiering Sept. 9 on CBC).The series is an outdoors reality competition with a pretty compelling twist: sand sculpters from around the world flock to the Bay of Fundy and then have six hours to create towering works of art before the tide comes in and washes their efforts away.As Shaun says on the podcast, just don't use the "C" word in describing the finished works. (As in "Castles").Majumder also talks about parenting through COVID times with wife Shelby and their adorable two year old daughter, performing virtual comedy shows for front-line medical workers, relaunching a long-planned standup comedy tour coming to Ontario this fall and other projects in the works.
To start the episode, Ali's recounts a recent Drive-in comedy show he did with Shaun Majumder (1:03). Then Asif asks about the course Ali teaches at Queen's University and whether you can “teach funny” (7:38). Ali then talks about various exercises he used with his students to develop their comedic skills. Ali then discusses various books on the history of comedy and to help with honing one's stand up. Then Ali asks Asif about ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) (36:02). They discuss about how a listener suggested they address the topic and go over the symptoms and how there is often a delay in diagnosis. Asif clarifies that while Lou Gehrig had the disease, Stephen Hawking likely did not. They talk about the lack of effective treatments and the need for more advocacy regarding ALS. Finally, they discuss the case of Chris Snow, former Calgary Flames Assistant General Manager and his diagnosis and experimental treatment for a genetic form of ALS. Sean Lecomber is a name you may not recognize, but you should. And not just because it sounds like Shaun Majumder. This episode has bonus material, thanks to an early morning call time. It's also a bit fractured. But that's part of its charm! Lecomber talks about his geopolitical cheese theory, North Korean Netflix, the possibility of throwing his comedy career away, play dates, rostering at an elementary school, being adopted, audiences in England, and tons more.
Shaun Majumder had never done a podcast prior to this momentous episode. Go figure. In it, he talks about comedy workshops, gives us a glimpse into the psyches of his fellow Newfoundlanders, makes the case for optimism, tells us why acting isn't as easy as it looks, and discusses getting fired from a TV show and the words of wisdom from a comedy legend that saw him through it.
