Z današnjim dnem vstopamo v praznovanje velike noči. Ta praznik namreč ni zgolj velikonočna nedelja, ko praznujemo Jezusovo vstajenje od mrtvih, ampak praznovanje zaobjema celotno sveto tridnevje, ki se začne z velikim četrtkom, nato pa se nadaljuje v veliki petek, ko se spominjamo Jezusovega trpljenja in smrt na križu in se v noči velike sobote izteče v slavje luči med najslovesnejšim obhajanjem velikonočne vigilije. V dopoldnevu velikega četrtka v stolnicah škofje, ob somaševanju duhovnikov, darujejo krizmeno mašo, pri kateri tudi posvetijo sveta olja: krstno olje, olje za bolniško maziljenje in krizmo, ki se uporablja pri krščevanju, birmovanju in posvečevanju. Krizmena maša je edina maša v dopoldnevu velikega četrtka, medtem ko v samo praznovanje svetega tridnevja vstopamo z mašo na sam večer velikega četrtka, pri kateri se še posebej spominjamo, kako je Jezus z učenci obhajal zadnjo večerjo. Pri tem pa sta izpostavljeni dve njegovi dejanji. Jezus je namreč z učenci obhajal praznovanje judovske velike noči – pashe, vendar je že na začetku tega obreda uvedel novo dejanje: namesto, da bi se vsi navzoči udeležili obrednega umivanja rok, je Jezus pokleknil k vsakemu od učencev in jim umil noge. S tem, simbolnim in obenem konkretnim dejanjem jih je privzel v svoje poslanstvo, čeprav se je zavedal, da so nekateri šibki v veri, drugi prestrašeni, tretji napuhnjeni … Zavedal se je, da ga bo apostol Peter zatajil in Juda Iškarijot izdal, pa ju vendar ni zavrgel. S tem je za vso zgodovino Cerkve pokazal, da bo tudi med njegovimi najožjimi služabniki – duhovniki lahko prišlo do zatajitev, napuha in ostalih grešnosti, vse do izdajstva in odpada. Prav zato je eden ključnih momentov obhajanja velikega četrtka molitev za duhovnike: ne toliko za nove duhovne poklice, kot predvsem za stanovitnost in svetost duhovnikov – da bi ostajali zvesti Kristusu. Obenem pa, da bi se vsi zavedali, da je Gospod tisti, ki je zares svet, duhovniki pa ga lahko tudi zakramentalno prinašamo v ta svet. Prav v tej točki se zakrament duhovništva sreča z zakramentom evharistije, ki ga je Jezus postavil na koncu obhajanja judovske velike noči, ko je vzel kruh in vino in to posvetil v svoje telo in kri – v sveto evharistijo. Cerkev ta obred obhaja že 2000 let, saj je Jezus to naročil apostolom in ti so to predali naprej, vključno s povečevanjem novih duhovnikov, vse do današnjih dni. Duhovnik je sicer delivec tega zakramenta, toda tisti, ki dejansko posvečuje kruh in vino v Kristusovo telo in kri, je Sveti Duh – in to ne glede na duhovnikovo svetost ali grešnost. Naj nas zato veliki četrtek navdaja s hvaležnostjo, da Jezus ostaja med nami v zakramentu evharistije, obenem pa mu izročajmo tudi duhovnike, da bi kljub svojim šibkostim in grešnosti, bili zvesti in predani Odrešeniku.

Kolikokrat se nam je že zgodilo, da smo doživeli kakšen lep trenutek, kakšno lepo, močno in globoko izkustvo. In v tem času, ko se je vse to lepo še dogajalo, smo lahko nekje globoko v sebi pomislili: »Kakšna škoda, da bo to tako hitro minilo in bo spet vse po starem.« Gre za situacije, ko smo s kom imeli res dober in globok pogovor, ki nas je povezal, ali pa močno doživetje bližine Boga v molitvi; lahko je bilo izjemno izkustvo in doživet trenutek v naravi ob mogočnem slapu ali čudovitem sončnem zahodu; globina, v kateri se mož in žena zares čutita povezana v odnosu; da ne govorimo o dveh zaljubljencih na klopci v parku, ki bi to stanje čustvene zlitosti poskušala za vedno zadržati. Prav to je dejansko želja ali pa skušnjava: da bi namreč neki izjemno lep, močan in globok trenutek zadržali za vedno. Da bi, kakor pri gledanju filma, v določenem prizoru pritisnili na pavzo in za vedno zamrznili sliko v tem izjemnem trenutku. V taki situaciji so se znašli trije apostoli, ki jih je Jezus vzel na goro Tabor. Tam so doživeli njegovo spremenjenje, nekakšno izkustvo Jezusove Božje narave in edinstveno bližino Boga Očeta, ki je pred njimi razglasil Jezusa za svojega ljubljenega Sina. Apostoli Peter, Janez in Jakob so torej doživeli nekaj neopisljivo močnega, izjemno izkustvo Božje navzočnosti in bližine, tako da je apostol Peter, popolnoma prevzet od vsega, na koncu rekel: »Učenik, dobro je, da smo tukaj. Postavimo tri šotore.« Seveda, on bi se tam kar utaboril, ušotoril, samo da bi mu uspelo vsaj še malo zadržati ali podaljšati tisti trenutek edinstvene Božje bližine. Toda namesto tega so se morali spustiti v dolino in spet stopiti na pot. In tako je v našem vsakdanjem in tudi duhovnem življenju. Na prvo postno nedeljo smo ob Jezusu doživljali skušnjave, na drugo pa nam evangelij prinaša tolažbo Božje bližine ob spremenjenju na gori Tabor. Skušnjave, bitke, pa tudi padci in grešnost – vse to je resničnost našega vsakdanjika. Toda v okviru tega Gospod poskrbi za močne trenutke, ki nas okrepijo, opogumijo, napolnijo, izpolnijo in nam dajo moči za prihodnost. Duhovno življenje torej ni samo boj in spopadanje s težavami, preizkušnjami in grešnostjo, ampak vključuje tudi trenutke tolažbe, bližine in močnih dotikov. Toda za to je potreben umik. Jezus se je s tremi apostoli umaknil na vrh gore, stran od sveta, to pa je pomembno tudi za nas. Umik od ekranov, norenja, tempa, vrveža, da smo lahko bliže sebi, drugemu in Bogu. Šele tako imamo priložnost, da lahko doživimo še kaj globljega. Toda tega vsekakor ne moremo zadržati ali zamrzniti. Lahko pa tudi živimo iz močnih izkustev, saj nas lahko tolažijo, krepijo in bodrijo v teži ali pa sivini vsakdanjika. Od njih pa je treba stopiti naprej na pot in to izkustvo prinašati in prenašati v vsakdanje življenje, ki je lahko zaradi njega polnejše, bogatejše in globlje.

Arko, poudarja, da post ni zgolj fizična vzdržnost od mesa, ampak predvsem duhovna prenova srca. Postni čas bi morali izkoristiti za poglabljanje odnosa z Bogom in bližnjimi ter premagovanje osebnih ovir, ki nas ločujejo od pristnega odnosa z njim. Pomembno je, da naše molitve in dejanja temeljijo na iskreni želji po duhovni rasti in ne na dokazovanju lastne vzdržnosti. Avtor zaključuje, da je pravi pomen posta v odpovedi sebičnosti, zamer in napuha ter v sprejemanju Božje ljubezni in odpuščanja.

Danes, ko so na spletu na razpolago skorajda vsi podatki, se nemalokrat zgodi, da si v bolezenskem stanju bolnik, ob vseh dostopnih podatkih, kar sam oblikuje diagnozo. Potem pa pride k zdravniku in mu že razlaga, kaj je z njim. Kaj ob taki internetni anamnezi misli in doživlja zdravnik, ki ima za sabo študij na medicinski fakulteti, specializacijo in precej delovnih izkušenj in modrosti, je pa drugo vprašanje. Ne nazadnje gre marsikomu verjetno na živce, če mu pametuje nekdo, ki ni iz njegove stroke. Zamislimo si situacijo iz evangelija za današnjo nedeljo, v kateri so se znašli Simon Peter, ribič iz Kafarnauma ob Galilejskem jezeru, in njegova ribiška družabnika, Zebedejeva sinova Jakob in Janez. Fantje so vso noč lovili ribe, a niso nič ujeli. Na obali razočarani izpirajo ribiške mreže. In vtem se pojavi neki pridigar, ki najprej stopi v čoln in iz njega začne učiti ljudi. Potem pa se obrne k Simonu Petru in mu reče: »Odrini na globoko in vrzite svoje mreže na lov!« Si predstavljate, kako se je moralo zabliskati v glavi tega galilejskega ribiča! Vsak ribič ve, da se ribe lovi ponoči. Zdaj pa ti pride neki pridigarski tišler iz Nazareta in pametuje profesionalcem, naj gredo lovit sredi belega dneva! Kar pa je v tej točki izjemnega pomena, je to, da se sicer kolerično eksplozivni Simon Peter ne razburi, ampak s ponižnostjo sprejme Učiteljevo povabilo. Sledi izjemen čudežni ulov rib, temu pa odziv Simona Petra, ko reče Jezusu: »Pojdi od mene, Gospod, ker sem grešen človek!« Nadnaravni, čudežni dogodek ga tako pretrese, da se zave neizmerne veličine človeka, ki stoji pred njim, ob tem pa svoje lastne grešnosti in nevrednosti, zato pa mu je jasno, da nikakor ne spada v njegovo družbo. Toda Jezus, ki ne išče popolnih, brezhibnih in izklesanih ljudi, mu reče: »Ne boj se; odslej boš ljudi lovil.« Hoditi z Jezusom, biti njegov, biti v Njegovi bližini in navzočnosti vsekakor človeka lahko navdaja tudi s strahom in sramom. Zato reakcija Simona Petra ne preseneča: »Pojdi od mene, Gospod, ker sem grešen človek!« Seveda je bistveno pri tem, da se zavedamo, da niso naši talenti, usposobljenost, moralna brezhibnost ali značajska prikupnost tisto, zaradi česar bi nas Gospod povabil, naj hodimo za Njim. Nasprotno: ne glede na naše danosti, nepopolnosti ali grešnost nas vabi, naj mu sledimo. Pri tem pa bo lahko uporabil tudi to, kar je položeno v nas, in nadgradil, saj Jezus tudi Simonu Petru ne spremeni njegovega osnovnega poklica – da je namreč ribič, ampak ga nadgradi: »Odslej boš ljudi lovil.« Ne gre torej za našo popolnost ali usposobljenost, ampak za pripravljenost hoditi za Jezusom in se učiti, kako biti vse bolj Njegov.

Večkrat se mi je že zgodilo, da je na kakšnem slavju ali praznovanju kak veseljak ali duhovitež vprašal: »Pater, a vas pa na teološkem faksu niso naučili, kako se iz vode naredi vino?« Da ne omenjam še kakih drugih šal ali duhovitih interpretacij na račun Jezusovega prvega čudeža, ko je na svatbi v Kani Galilejski spremenil vodo v vino. Seveda se pri tem samo od sebe zastavlja vprašanje, zakaj je Jezus to sploh naredil. Še toliko bolj, ko starešina, ki je odgovoren za celoten potek svatbe, pokusi Jezusovo vino in se čudi nad njegovo kakovostjo ter pravi ženinu: »Vsakdo postreže najprej z dobrim vinom, in ko se ljudje napijejo, s slabšim, ti pa si dobro vino prihranil do zdaj.« Pomeni, da je Jezus podpiral alkoholizem? Ali da gre za nekakšno ironijo v slogu popularnega refrena skupine Zmelkoow: »Več kot spijemo, boljši smo in lepše zgledamo.« Ne gre ne za ironijo, še manj za podpiranje alkoholizma. Na čisto praktični ravni je odgovor precej preprost: v starem Izraelu je svatba trajala več dni in zato je moralo biti tudi prav poskrbljeno za jedačo in pijačo. Kot kaže, so se na svatbi v Kani malce ušteli pri pripravi pijače ali pa si je niso mogli privoščiti. Kakor koli že. Vina je zmanjkalo in za mladoporočenca in njuni družini bi bila to huda sramota. S tem ko je Jezus spremenil vodo v vino, pa ju je rešil te sramote. Konkretna in praktična pomoč mladoporočencema. Vsekakor pa evangelist Janez za tem prinaša precej globlje sporočilo, saj zapiše, da je bila svatba »tretji dan«, to pa vsakega kristjana spomni na ključni dogodek odrešenja – da je Jezus tretji dan vstal od mrtvih in s tem razodel slavo nebeškega Očeta. Svatba v Kani Galilejski, ki jo Janez predstavi v drugem poglavju svojega evangelija, tako simbolno nakazuje konec samega evangelija. S tem ko Jezus naredi prvi čudež in vodo spremeni v vino, razodene svoje veličastvo, svojo slavo – to, da je Božji Sin, in zato njegovi učenci začnejo verovati vanj. Ko bo vstal od mrtvih, se bo ta njegova slava razodela v vsej polnosti. Toda pred tem bo Jezus še moral trpeti na križu, s katerega bo v agoniji zaklical: »Žejen sem!« Žejen, a ne vode, še manj vina, ampak pristne človeške ljubezni. Prvi čudež oziroma znamenje, ki ga je Jezus naredil v Kani Galilejski, tako ni nekakšen rokohitrski trik, s katerim bi Jezus podpiral pijančevanje, ampak uvertura v to, kar se bo v vsej polnosti zgodilo, ko bo vstal od mrtvih. Kar pa zadeva samo vino, to pri vsaki maši s posvečenjem Svetega Duha postane Kristusova kri, ki jo pijemo v naše odrešenje. Čezmerno pitje vina nam je v pogubo, nasprotno pa nam je pitje vina, ki je postalo Kristusova kri, v odrešenje. V tem primeru lahko velja v vsej polnosti: Večkrat ko pijemo, boljši smo, saj prav s tem postajamo bolj Božji.

Besedilo je prevedla Mojca Kranjc, dramaturginja je bila Eva Kraševec, režiser pa Peter Petkovšek. Nastopa šest igralcev ljubljanske Drame in dva gosta: Ivo Ban v glavni vlogi in Primož Vrhovec kot medicinski izvedenec. Na premieri je bila Tadeja Krečič. Igrajo Maja Sever, Ivo Ban k. g., Barbara Žefran, Maša Derganc, Pia Zemljič, Veronika Drolc, Primož Vrhovec k. g. in Saša Tabaković. Dramo je iz nemščine prevedla Mojca Kranjc, avtorji priredbe prevoda so ustvarjalci uprizoritve. Dolgoletni odbornik PD Tolmin v teh dneh po Sloveniji predstavlja svojo knjigo, v kateri je zbral vse besedila Toneta Škarje. Zaupal nam je, kako se je tega izziva lotil in ga uspešno pripeljal do cilja.

"Prostovoljstvo spodbuja ljudi k sodelovanju pri doseganju skupnih ciljev in vrednot, posamezniki, ki se vključujejo v prostovoljske aktivnosti, pa pozitivno vplivajo na celotno skupnost, saj s svojimi deli ustvarjajo občutek pripadnosti". The initial scramble for Africa was a deadly colonial project from the 1880s that still impacts the continent today. Now, researchers like Thelma Arko are ringing the alarm bells that a new scramble for Africa is underway. This time, under the guise of environmentalism. Ryfah Shamak of The People's Program spoke with Thelma Arko, research fellow with the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa, to learn more about the dangers of this emerging colonial project.

No, pa se je spet začel tako imenovani veseli december. Trgovci so že takoj po prazniku vseh svetih odstranili okrasje z ikebanami, bučami in svečami ter ga nadomestili z božično-novoletnim. Po ulicah in trgih naših krajev že prižigajo praznične lučke, stojnice s kuhanim vinom in drugimi dobrotami tudi že obratujejo s polno paro. Začenja se čas božičnih glasbenih nastopov in koncertov, v službah in delovnih kolektivih pa čas prednovoletnih zabav. Predvsem pa se začenja nakupovalna mrzlica, ko se bo spet na polno zapravljalo za pogosto nepotrebna in celo nespametna darila. Seveda, če imaš svoje najdražje zares rad, jih pač moraš temu primerno obdariti! In slednjič skušamo ta veseli, če ne kar nori december, imenovati advent – čas pričakovanja!? Pričakovanja česa? Počitniških prostih dni? Božička ali dedka Mraza? Ali preprosto pričakovanja, da bo vse skupaj čim hitreje šlo mimo in bomo spet zaživeli nekakšno normalnost v puščobnem januarskem mrazu? Za kristjane je advent v svojem bistvu vezan na pričakovanje in pripravo na Jezusovo rojstvo. Prav zato so še kako na mestu Jezusove spodbude v evangeliju današnje nedelje, ko pravi: »Vaše odrešenje se približuje. Varujte se, da vam sŕca ne bodo obtežena z razuzdanostjo, pijanostjo in življenjskimi skrbmi.« Vabi nas torej k poglobitvi, ne pa praznemu veseljačenju, da bi s tem skušali pobegniti od vsakdanjih težav. Nasprotno: da bi se sami pri sebi zavedeli, katere in kakšne so naše resnične življenjske težave, stiske in preizkušnje. Katera so tista področja v mojem življenju, pri katerih še posebej potrebujem odrešenje in hrepenim po njem? Konec adventa prinaša izpolnitev Jeremijeve prerokbe: »Glej, pridejo dnevi, govorí Gospod, ko izpolnim obljubo, ki sem jo dal.« To je obljuba o Odrešeniku. Če želim Jezusa zares sprejeti kot Odrešenika, je potem najprej nujno, da se zavem, kje pri sebi potrebujem odrešenje, nato pa se za to odrešenje tudi odprem in razpoložim. Če ni tega, ostane božič prazen. Ostane samo praznična kuliserija z zabavo, dobro hrano in pijačo. Če pa pripravim in odprem svoje srce, svoje najgloblje globine Odrešeniku, ki prihaja, ki želi vstopiti v moje življenje, ki mojemu življenju želi dati smisel in ga napolniti s svojo navzočnostjo in ljubeznijo, potem sem stopil na pot adventne priprave na božič, ki je praznik rojstva Jezusa Kristusa. Beseda »Kristus«, vzeta iz grščine, dobesedno pomeni »Odrešenik«. Temelj odrešenja, ki ga s svojim učlovečenjem in rojstvom prinaša Jezus, pa je ta, da nas privede v naročje Očetove ljubezni. Da se zavemo, da nas Bog Oče neskončno ljubi. Zato naj za vse na začetku adventa velja spodbuda apostola Pavla, ki nam jo prinaša današnja božja beseda: »Vas pa naj Gospod obogati in napolni z ljubeznijo drug do drugega in do vseh.«

Verjetno marsikdo ob omembi prvega novembra najprej pomisli, da je to dan, ki prinaša nekaj žalostnega in zamorjenega. Seveda, saj na ta dan oziroma vsaj na ta obiščemo grobove naših rajnih. Zato ta praznik lahko preživimo v precej sivih in žalostnih tonih, da ne rečemo kar v nekakšni zamorjenosti in turobnosti. Nenazadnje je to državni praznik z uradnim nazivom – dan spomina na mrtve, ki ga pogovorno pogosto imenujemo kar dan mrtvih. Vse to je seveda povezano še z manijo, ki jo imamo Slovenci, tako verni kot neverni, da na grobove znosimo na tone sveč in kupe cvetja, predvsem ikebane. Vse to ni toliko spominjanje na mrtve, kot je predvsem ukvarjanje z njimi, ki pa lahko izzveni v nekem lepotičenju krajev smrti, včasih tudi iz notranjih občutkov krivde ali predvsem dolžnosti. A še vedno ostanem le pri mrtvih. Ključni preobrat je v bistvu praznika, ki je v jedru krščanski. Kristjani namreč prvega novembra ne praznujemo kot dan spomina na mrtve, ampak kot praznik vseh svetnikov. Pomeni, da se spominjamo temeljnega dejstva, da grob ni zadnja postaja in da obstaja resničnost tudi onkraj tega. Jezus Kristus je vstal od mrtvih. Zato apostol Pavel piše: »Če pa Kristus ni bil obujen, je prazna vaša vera … Toda Kristus je vstal od mrtvih, prvenec tistih, ki so umrli« (1 Kor 15,17.20). Zato verujemo, da smrt ni končna postaja, ampak prehod v izpolnjeno bivanje pri Bogu. Pogled ni usmerjen v grob, v končnost, v tukajšnjost, ampak onkraj. Zato prvi november ni dan, ko bi bil človek zamorjen, ampak hvaležen in vesel. Hvaležen za vse, ki so že pokojni in sem z njimi prehodil del življenjske poti. Vesel zato, ker me krepi vera, da zdaj živijo polnost življenja pri Stvarniku. Praznik vseh svetnikov ne govori o umetniških kipcih in slikarijah po cerkvah, ki se pogosto naslanjajo na hagiografsko izročilo. Praznik govori o resničnosti, v katero so po koncu poti na Zemlji že številni vstopili – resničnost bivanja z Bogom. Resničnost vseh tistih, ki jih Cerkev uradno ni kanonizirala in razglasila za svete. Resničnost, ki je naša prihodnost. Prav zato smo na naši poti skozi življenje povabljeni, da že tukaj in zdaj okušamo to resničnost v pristnem odnosu z Bogom. Da se torej v tem odnosu vere že počasi navajamo in učimo domačnosti z Bogom, ki bo nekoč postala tudi tvoja in moja resničnost. Prav zato praznik vseh svetnikov ne more in ne sme biti nekaj zamorjenega. Seveda se lahko ob spominu na rajne še vedno zbudita žalost in bolečina, ampak bistveno je, da naš pogled ni usmerjen v tukajšnjo končnost, ampak zavedanje resničnosti, ki nas čaka. To pa je razlog, da smo lahko na ta praznik veseli in hvaležni – za resničnost, ki nas čaka.

In this episode, host Dr. Ally Baheti interviews interventional radiologist Dr. Saher Sabri and vascular surgeon Dr. Frank Arko about their perspectives on a July 2023 New York Times article about the ethics of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) treatment in outpatient based labs (OBLs) and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). --- SHOW NOTES Dr. Arko emphasizes the importance of approaching articles as an unbiased reader. He acknowledges that sensationalism in the news is common, and while bad actors do exist, he personally knows talented OBL/ASC practitioners. He also notes that the article fails to mention that the majority of these practitioners follow society guidelines to provide appropriate and effective treatment for their patients, rather than prioritizing financial gain. He believes that most non-surgical specialists have the clinical insight to know when patients would be better candidates for open bypasses as opposed to endovascular interventions. Dr. Arko describes the split response to the article within vascular surgeons on social media, based on their personal philosophies of open versus endovascular interventions for PAD. Dr. Sabri believes that PAD and critical limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) are not very well known by the general public, this article was a missed opportunity to bring attention to these conditions and disparities in treatments depending on patients' geographic locations and ethnicities. The article may have the effect of scaring patients away from seeking treatment for PAD and CLTI, as well as receiving care at OBLs, which were originally founded to make interventions more efficient and patient-friendly. Additionally, the article could foster divisiveness between vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and interventional cardiologists and as a result, increase barriers to collaboration. It is important to differentiate between PAD and CLTI and the stage at which patients present to medical care. Limb salvage rates and decisions to intervene and/or amputate are multifactorial and are not as straightforward as the article may imply. Both doctors agree that specialty societies share the responsibility of monitoring their members for overuse of interventions. In terms of rebates and volume discounts from device companies, the doctors discuss the ethics of cost savings that benefit a hospital system versus savings that benefit a physician-owned OBL. Dr. Arko recognizes that financing an OBL with device company partnerships can be a smart business decision if devices are used appropriately and only when indicated. He speaks about the need for societies to support more randomized control trials that compare the effectiveness of each atherectomy device. We also discuss implications for insurance coverage of PAD/CLTI interventions. Dr. Sabri believes that it is unfortunate when insurance companies become the decision-maker of patient treatments. --- RESOURCES “They Lost Their Legs.
