Previously, he provided consulting services for a wide portfolio of clients in the engineering and construction industry. He was the Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer for Michael Baker International responsible for both public and private sector development in the consultant and engineering industry from highway and bridges to water, construction services and planning. Prior to that, he was President of CB&I Federal Services and its successor organization, APTIM Government Services. He joined the CB&I team in December 2013 following a 30 year career in the Navy. He began in Strategic Development, and Business Development then promoted to Chief Operating Officer and then President in the Federal sector of Engineering and Construction, Environmental Services, Energy and Base Operating Services.Mr. Boone retired from the US Navy in 2013 as a Navy Civil Engineer Corps Rear Admiral. His last active duty assignment was the Director of Shore Readiness where he was responsible for overseeing facilities and energy funding and policy for 70 bases worldwide – a $9 billion annual budget. His tours as Commanding Officer included Underwater Construction TEAM ONE (Seabees), NAVFAC MARIANAS (Guam), and NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic.Raised in Yokohama, Japan, high school in Oregon, Mr. Boone first attended the University of Oregon and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. He then transferred and graduated from Cal Poly SLO in Civil Engineering with Masters degrees in Coastal Engineering and Construction Management from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a registered professional engineer (Virginia and Florida). He was a Navy contracting officer, a Navy Diver, and maintains a TOP SECRET security classification. He received numerous personal Navy awards, including the Nippon Zenkokai Award from the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan. Stark County FFA Students Toby Williams, Jake Primo, Emma Howell, Hailie Ales, Addison Nowlan, Klaire Bays, Darilis Knobloch, and FFA Advisor Taylor Wilkinson joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about winning state championships with their projects and heading to Nationals next week, a new greenhouse, and visiting the elementary school to talk about "Stranger Danger." Five projects have advanced to the prestigious status of national finalists, while another project was recognized with an impressive 11th-place finish. These talented students will discover their final rankings in October, when the results are announced live during the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis. Stark County FFA members from Illinois received recognition across several areas, including Emma Howell and Addison Nowlan in Social Science, Preston Hillier in Power Systems, Klaire Bays and Hailie Ales in Plant Systems, Chelsey Stotler in Plant Systems, Toby Williams and Darilis Knobloch in Food Products, and Jake Primo in Environmental Services. FFA officers visited Stark County Elementary School on October 22nd, engaging students in vital discussions about ‘Stranger Danger' ahead of Halloween. The presentation focused on important safety measures, such as staying in groups while trick-or-treating, using flashlights, and choosing bright costumes for better visibility. Interactive games and activities helped reinforce these messages, aiming to make sure every student takes the right precautions while enjoying Halloween festivities. The officers' visit was made possible thanks to support from Ms. Swope, the elementary teaching staff, administration, and Officer Ashley Karpel, who all contributed tips to maximize safety during the upcoming holiday. Addison and Emma shared their experiences on the ‘Wellness in the Fields' podcast presented by the SIU Medicine Farm Family Resource Initiative. The discussion covered the unique mental health challenges faced by farm families, with a special focus on how generational farming impacts stress levels. Both guests emphasized the importance of support systems within rural communities. Additionally, the pair highlighted their participation in the FFA Agriscience Fair, expressing enthusiasm and high hopes for their project as they look ahead to next year's competition.

Over the past few decades, Portland has built one of the most extensive green stormwater infrastructure systems in the country. Instead of relying only on pipes and drains, it has created thousands of rain gardens and green streets to help keep sewage out of the Willamette River. Much of that work has not only involved city engineers but also local community members — from volunteers who ‘adopt’ and maintain storm drains to nonprofits that rip out pavement and replace it with trees and plants. A new study in the journal Sustainability looks back at the first 30 years of Portland’s green stormwater infrastructure, but questions remain about whether the city is keeping up with climate change and rapid growth. Our guests are study co-author Adrienne Aiona, a civil engineer at the city's Bureau of Environmental Services and Ted Labbe, finance and partnerships manager of the nonprofit Depave. They join us to talk about the city’s work and the role of local stewardship in keeping Portland’s green stormwater system alive and well.

In this episode, Brett sat down with his friend and fellow Southwest Florida Water Management District alum, Eric Sutton. Before his current role, Eric has spent his entire career in public service. He's worked for Sarasota County; the water management district where he and Brett met; and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, where he would eventually get to serve as the organization's Executive Director. He's currently a Vice-President with Garcia Land Management and Environmental Services. They discuss his family's deep roots in rural Western Kentucky; a childhood spent outdoors; how he changed paths at the University of South Florida and wound up working in the natural sciences; his desire to learn, improve, and take on new challenges; his management philosophy as his responsibilities grew; the love he had for his staff, board, and organization – and when he knew it was time to move on; his new role with Garcia and the challenges of working in the private sector; and a flirtation with the “RV Life”. It's a dramatic change, and the plan that Portlanders approved in late 2022 gave the city only two years to prepare. With half of that time already gone, city leaders are racing against the clock to meet that deadline.The mayor and commissioners function as the city council and also directly oversee city bureaus under the current system, but the overhaul will split up those roles. The council will expand to 12 members — three from each of four new geographic districts — and it will only set policy. The mayor will no longer be on the council and will instead oversee a professional city administrator in charge of all day-to-day operations.Jordan previously directed Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services, and before that he was a Clackamas County Commissioner and worked for 11 years at Pacific Power and Light. Jordan was a guest on this week's episode of Straight Talk to help make sense of the new city government structure and provide an update on the progress of the transition process.
