A devotional about the our relationship with God, about knowing Who He is, and how we relate to Him (and should relate to Him).Job 42:1-6 KJVThen Job answered the LORD, and said, "I know that Thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from Thee. 'Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge?' therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech Thee, and I will speak: I will demand of Thee, and declare Thou unto me. I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes."If you have any questions or comments, please send them to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comWe encourage you to look at “The Key Principles of Effective Bible Study”, and the series of podcasts that we have done on it which can be found here. It is a fearful privilege to be a bond-servant to the Holy God of the universe. Philippians 2:12-13 "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." The child of God cannot regard one another as more important than ourselves or not look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others without submitting ourselves to God first, and then to others. As we pray Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Father, we pray in the knowledge that all the heavenly hosts, submit to Thee, to every single command Thou dost issue. Empower us, Holy Spirit, to submit to the decrees of the Father and submit to one another, as Christ offered Himslef to be our sacrifice. Amen. Thoughts Psalm 63 begins with a declaration of devotion. “God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you.” Scholars believe that this was written by David during the time that Absalom was pursuing him. This is a time when David had been betrayed by those he trusted, he feared for his life, and he felt all alone.  And yet, this is a beautiful psalm of devotion and praise.  God, you are MY God! I will have no other. God, YOU are my God!  God, you are my GOD! I much prefer verses 3 and 4 in the KJV, because in 1974, Calvary Chapel’s Maranatha! Singers had a song called Thy Loving Kindness, based on these verses. I can’t read these verses without hearing the song in my head. Thy loving kindness is better than life. My lips shall praise Thee. Thus will I bless Thee. I will lift up my hands unto Thy name. This was the first album of the worship music of the Jesus movement, and the songs from this album were sung for years and years by churches and youth groups around the world. I still have my copy of the vinyl album from 1974. But I digress. We were talking about David’s psalm, weren’t we? He says that at night as he lies on his bed, he meditates on the Lord. Remember, this is during the time that Absalom is after him, to kill him. But instead of worrying about that, David meditates on the Lord. How many of us lie in bed and worry about the bills, whether we’ll be able to keep our jobs, or if we’ll be able to get a job once the covid scare is over, or if our kids will be okay, or on and on and on?  1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” Easier said than done, I know, but when we put this in context with the way we started… God, you are my God…the focus shifts from us to Him. And then, we can, like David, meditate on the Lord. Dropping down to verse 8, David says, “Your right hand holds on to me.” The right hand, in Scripture, represents the hand of strength. And so David is saying the God’s strong hand holds on to him. He is safe, and nothing can take him from God’s strong grip. That’s security, beloved. He talks about how his enemies will be destroyed, but the king (David himself) will rejoice in God, and all who swear by Him, or who believe in Him, will boast for the mouths of the liars will be shut.  Those who trust in God will be vindicated, while their enemies will be shown to liars and they will be silenced. When God is on your side, what is there to worry about?

Psalm 19:1-6 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tent for the sun, 5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. 6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.   As we continue this series on the Psalms, which we began last week and will continue through Advent to Epiphany, we’ll look at Psalm 19 for the next two weeks. The first half of this psalm celebrates God’s general revelation: how the “book of nature” (as medieval theologians called it) declares God’s glory. A number of the hymns this morning, notably All Creatures Of Our God And King and From Heav’n O Praise The Lord—Psalm 148, speak of the natural world praising God: the “burning sun,” the “silver moon,” the “winds” and “deeps,” “mountains,” “cedars,” and “beasts great and small” are all called to lift their voices in adoration. Not only does creation praise, but it also proclaims God’s truth, as Paul points out in the Scripture reading from Romans 1 (“His eternal power and Divine nature have been clearly perceived … in the things that have been made”), and as we’ll sing from Psalm 19 itself (“In every star Thy wisdom shines”). In the face of this tremendous “book of nature,” we respond with two hymns in the second half of the service, O Lord Our Lord, How Majestic—Psalm 8 and God, My King, Thy Might Confessing. We stand in awe with the psalmist (“when I gaze at the heavens and all the works your hands have made … what is man that You are mindful and remember him?”), and we join with the chorus of praise that all nature sings forth (“All Thy works, O Lord, shall bless Thee”). —Henry C. Haffner Key Words: Declares, Proclaim, Speak, Reveals, Speech, Words, Voice, End, Sun, Glory Keystone Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Saint of the Day
Our Holy Father Joannicius the Great, hermit on Mt Olympus (846)

Saint of the Day

He was born in Bithynia of peasant stock. He worked as a swineherd, then became an officer in the Imperial army, where he served with such distinction in the war against the Bulgars that the Emperor Constantine VI wanted to take him into his personal service. "But the sight of massacres and horrors of war had brought home to him the vanity of this life. He asked leave of the Emperor to retire from the service, in order to wage unseen warfare in the ranks of the angelic army" (Synaxarion). In the coming years he traveled widely, sometimes living as a hermit, sometimes living in monasteries, more than once founding a monastic community. Wherever he went he lived in stillness, solitude and strict asceticism. He was famed for his spiritual counsel, his prophecies, his many miracles of healing ailments bodily and spiritual, and for his friendship with animals. Once a monk who doubted the Saint's miracles was eating at table with him when a large bear burst in upon them. Joannicius called the bear and it came and lay at his feet; he then told it to lie at the feet of his frightened guest and said "At their creation, the animals looked with veneration on man, who is made in the image of God, and he had no fear of them. We are afraid of them now because we have transgressed God's commandments. If we love the Lord Jesus and keep his commandments, no animal will be able to do us any harm." The monk departed greatly edified.   In the last years of Joannicius' life, when he was about ninety years old, the Emperor Theophilus sought his counsel on the veneration of icons. The Saint's answer was pointed: "Whoever refuses due honor to the images of Christ, of the Mother of God and of the Saints, will not be received into the Kingdom of Heaven, even if he has lived an otherwise blameless life."   Once Joannicius traveled to Constantinople to aid the Patriarch in some matters concerning the order of the Church. When he returned to his hermitage, he found that some jealous monks had set it on fire. Knowing who they were, he nevertheless addressed them kindly and invited them to share with him some food that he had managed to salvage from the fire. He did not attempt to rebuild his hermitage, but, taking the fire as a sign of his impending departure from this life, he traveled to the monastery of Antidion, where he had first entered into the monastic life and there, having predicted the day of his death, he reposed in peace. At the moment of his death, the monks of Mt Olympus saw a pillar of fire ascending from the earth to the sky.   The Saint's relics have been the source of many miracles. His skull is kept and venerated at the Monastery of the Pantocrator on Mt Athos. The widely-used prayer "My hope is the Father; my refuge is the Son; my shelter is the Holy Spirit; O Holy Trinity, glory be to Thee!" is attributed to St Joannicius.

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening podcast. This is Episode #280. Charles Spurgeon was a prominent English Particular Baptist preacher. He was very influential among the Christians of various denominations during his age and even today, and is commonly called the “Prince of Preachers”. After some time of alternately searching for God and running from God, he had a powerful encounter which led him to give his life to Christ. Spurgeon was only 16 when he preached his first sermon and he began publishing books shortly afterward. At the time of his death, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions. Spurgeon said, "encouraging thoughts are like honey to the heart", and wrote this devotional in hopes that its uplifting messages for each day of the year would bring comfort and refreshment to our walk with God. He was inspired by Isaiah 50:4 which reads, "He wakeneth morning by morning. He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned" and Psalm 63:5-6 which says, "My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches."

Undiluted!   So this is quite a time for compassion, quite a time for meaning, quite a time for death, quite a time for life and quite a time to completely surrender all the false ideas about You. When you, when I surrender all the false ideas about my self, all the false ideas about everyone that I meet, I drop to my feet and there is only glow, there's only Knowing, there's only bliss and life and wonder.  What one is, is the only instant there is throughout the Cosmos. Death then, Love then, is simply being the Love to breathe this moment only and let you unfold quite naturally What You Deeply Are. Death is all of the body, the mind, the senses, the nervous system, the thoughts, the feelings, all the polarities that have been placed in them because they were not there at birth, completely surrendered. One man put this that you'll go through the eye of a needle. I think that's a little bit big.. it's a bit big that eye of a needle, I think it's got a lot smaller.. and you'll go through multidimensional deaths. But that's how you awaken as a multidimensional being of Oneness. It really is instantaneously here. What one is, is the only instant there is throughout the Cosmos, and the beyond or the Self is realising itself amongst it all and 'I' who am listening, Am That.

Kids are sharp. . . . very sharp. It doesn’t take long for them to pick up on where you as a parent find your identity. If you have embraced the Christ who has embraced you, then thiswill serve as a compelling embodiment that turns conventional cultural wisdom on where to find one’s identity upside-down! The who you are, sends kids strong messages on the who they’ve been made to be. History tells us that the famous monk Bernard of Clairvaux hadn’t always found his identity in Christ. He was born into the luxury-filled life of nobility. Eventually he learned that his identity could only be found in Christ. Out of that experience of living on the foundation of a new identity-base, Bernard would pen these words to his now-classic hymn: “Jesus, Thou joy of loving hearts! Thou fount of life! Thou light of men! From the best bliss that earth imparts, We turn unfilled to Thee again.” That, and only that, is the place where our kids will truly find themselves. Are you living that in your life?

This is a review of sorts, and also, if you are new to the podcast and are not sure why we pray as Christians or if God even wants us to pray, today we will, in a meditative way, one of the answers to both those objections. Psalm 65:2 O Thou who dost hear prayer, To Thee all men come. If God did not hear prayer, why would all men come to Him? With the roadblock of wonder at God’s desire to hear from us gone, we are encouraged, move to understand we are blessed drawing close to Him; the blessings are coming because of through His grace and mercies. We are satisfied through our prayers, and we have the great experience of eternal life to carry us through this sojourn. Thus we are moved with great joy, peace, and soul satisfaction through prayer. John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. Psalm 27:17-19 The righteous cry and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; But the LORD delivers him out of them all. Lord teach us to pray and show us the joy of Thy presence. China Threatens to Arrest Americans; Government Report Exposes Student Spies

The history of a country is what establishes how its people view its stories, their heritage, and the broader culture that forms a nation. The Pilgrims who landed on Plymouth Rock came to this country with a very different intention than how America is often portrayed—that being religious liberty. Faith and belief have been the real driving force behind the American character. This history of the United States is shown in a new documentary, “America, America, God Shed His Grace on Thee,” which stars actor Nick Searcy. And to learn more about this, we’ve invited him to speak with us. Meanwhile, China is threatening to arrest US nationals in China, as a form of retaliation to the Justice Department’s prosecution of scholars affiliated with the Chinese military. This is according to an exclusive story by The Wall Street Journal, which cited unnamed sources allegedly familiar with the matter. It reports that Chinese officials have repeatedly issued warnings to representatives of the U.S. government through multiple channels, including through the US Embassy in Beijing. And new US government report details how China uses overseas students and scholars to feed its government programs and military development. The findings are detailed in an October 7 report from the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, which says the leaders of China have “long sought to harness the intellect of overseas Chinese students and scholars for the state’s development and strategic priorities,” and notes over the last 30 years “their efforts have become more systematic and sophisticated.” These stories and more in this episode of Crossroads. ⭕️ Subscribe for updates : http://bit.ly/CrossroadsYT ⭕️ Donate to support our work: https://www.bestgift.tv/crossroads ⭕️ Join Patreon to Support Crossroads: https://www.patreon.com/Crossroads_Josh

Bible verses for Meditation: KJV 23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! NRSV 23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm. 27 They were amazed, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?” Meditation on Scripture: I have been somewhat vague in past episodes and social media but I spoke at the funeral for my brother’s wife this week. One of her favorite hymns was “Jesus, Savior, Pilot me” 1 Jesus, Savior, pilot me, Over life's tempestuous sea; Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rock and treach'rous shoal; Chart and compass come from Thee: Jesus, Savior, pilot me! 2 As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild; Boist'rous waves obey Thy will When Thou say'st to them, "Be still!" Wondrous Sov'reign of the sea, Jesus, Saviour, pilot me! 3 When at last I near the shore, And the fearful breakers roar 'Twixt me and the peaceful rest, Then, while leaning on Thy breast, May I hear Thee say to me, "Fear not, I will pilot thee!"   FIND ME ON: Download my free app: Recenter with Christ Website - ChristianMeditationPodcast.com Voicemail - (602) 888-3795 Email: jared@christianmeditationpodcast.com Apple Podcasts - Christian Meditation Podcast Facebook.com/christianmeditationpodcast Youtube.com/christianmeditaitonpodcast Twitter - @ChristianMedPod

Who would’ve guessed that a nun would write a delightful book about spells, blessings and folk magic? Certainly not me, which is why I was so delighted to read the book for this month: Sister Karol’s Book of Spells, Blessings and Folk Magic.   Have you ever longed for a way to make your daily life more sacred? If so, this little book is the “missing manual” you’ve been seeking!   In this week’s episode, I will share the miraculous way I found this book, how it guided me to create a weekly ritual to invite in the Sacred, and how you can begin to use these interfaith prayers and rituals to infuse your daily life with joy, light and blessings.   And tune in next week for an interview with the author, Sr. Karol Jackowski!     Episode Takeaways: 1) There’s no official explanation of why the earliest pre-Christian prayers were known as spells, except for the primitive belief that’s exactly what deities do when we call- stop by for a spell.   2) At the heart of this book is an attempt to explain the magic in ritual and how divine power changes our lives; how to create magically favored moments in which miracles happen.   3) The Holy Mother Prayer, from page 148: O Holy Mother, to You I pray, come and grant my prayer this day, all in true accord with Thee, as I pray, so might it be (state your request.) Blessed Be.

272 Even the Winds and the Waves Obey Him - A Guided Christian Meditation on Matthew 8:23-27 with the Recenter With Christ app I'm Chaplain Jared and I work as a hospice chaplain and an ICU chaplain, my purpose in making this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and to be more open for your heart to be changed by the Spirit of God. By using centuries old form of Christian Meditation named Lectio Divina: Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization. Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes. Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation: Breathe and direct your thoughts to contacting God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate. One of her favorite hymns was “Jesus, Savior, Pilot me” 1 Jesus, Savior, pilot me, Over life's tempestuous sea; Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rock and treach'rous shoal; Chart and compass come from Thee: Jesus, Savior, pilot me! 2 As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild; Boist'rous waves obey Thy will When Thou say'st to them, "Be still!" Wondrous Sov'reign of the sea, Jesus, Saviour, pilot me! 3 When at last I near the shore, And the fearful breakers roar 'Twixt me and the peaceful rest, Then, while leaning on Thy breast, May I hear Thee say to me, "Fear not, I will pilot thee!" There are multiple purposes of this message. One is that the pilot is someone intimately familiar with the shore line, and were the dangerous rocks are. Modern day pilots work exclusively around one shoreline and guide each large ship into safety. Another aspect is that Jesus changes the whole equation. He is not only helping us deal with things he can’t change. He has power to change the forces of nature. This is equally applicable to us. He is equally capable to calm our hearts. I remember a distinct moment when I was feeling strong emotion, then upon reflection on these principles, peace and strength replaced the sadness. The Lord bound up my broken heart. Trust that God can do the same for you. He can, and will, either now or in the future. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials. Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life: This is a listener funded podcast at patreon.com/christianmeditationpodcast Updates: Final Question: Do you allow Jesus to be your pilot. Final Thought: I have been doing this podcast for coming up on 3.5 years and have never missed releasing an episode until this week. Regardless of how busy I have been or how late I have stayed up I have always got it done. This week I redirected my flight from Washington DC to the home of a family member to be there to support. I didn’t have podcasting gear and I couldn't do the live mobile because I don’t have enough subscribers yet. I appreciate the thoughts of concern and support for those who have reached out on facebook and in emails. It means a lot knowing that my experience, even in death and grief, can be a testimony of God’s Glory and bring people peace. I want you to know that God is aware of your suffering and your full situation. Your suffering will be for but a brief moment and when it is over, your growth in God’s eyes and the love that you have learned to feel will be all that matters to you.
