Few could deny that Ott Tänak was the fastest driver on Rally Portugal 2025 and would most likely have won by a handsome margin had he not been hampered by power-steering failure on Saturday afternoon. Instead, it was the old master Sébastien Ogier who was there to bring his Toyota GR Yaris home without any dramas while still outpacing all of his team-mates. David Evans and Luke Barry dissect all the action and consider why three of this year's WRC title favorites – Thierry Neuville, Kalle Rovanperä and Elfyn Evans – had relatively lackluster events. They also catch up on the American Rally Association's Oregon Trail Rally and look ahead to this year's DirtFish Women in Motorsport Summit, which takes place on Saturday, May 24.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The current leader of the FIA World Rally Drivers' Championship with two rounds to go, Neuville finished a solid fourth in Chile and won the epic SS11 stage in heavy fog. He talks about that in this podcast - and the recent, astonishing slurs that Toyota's Sébastien Ogier has recently been sending in his direction. Peter begins this livestream with his thoughts on the new tie-up between Toyota and Haas-Ferrari. It's basically win-win from every angle - although the whole business of an F1 team by definition designing and building its own car takes a bit of knock when you consider that, in the immediate future, Haas F1 will be co-producing its cars with Ferrari, Toyota and Dallara...There are plenty of questions and comments - as ever - from F1 fans around the world, with subjects ranging from the current Pirelli tyre monopoly to Ford's Walter Hayes suggesting to Jim Clark in early 1967 that he (Jim) should perhaps accept a pay rise. And there is an exclusive interview with Hyundai's Thierry Neuville, current leader (with two rounds to go) of the FIA World Rally Drivers' Championship. Fresh from his P4 in the recent Rally of Chile, Thierry braved a bout of the 'flu to talk to Peter on Zoom. From Kalle Rovanperä's against-the-odds win from the substitute bench, Andreas Mikkelsen's response to recent poor form, yet another podium for Adrien Fourmaux and that marvellous debut from Mārtiņš Sesks, Rally Poland wasn't short of storylines. On this week's SPIN, The Rally Pod, Colin Clark and George Donaldson debate spectator problems, the blueprint Sesks has now provided fellow young drivers seeking a chance in the big league, and whether the balance of power within Hyundai is shifting from Thierry Neuville towards Ott Tänak.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Following last weekend's Rally Italy Sardinia, Hyundai is 13 points clear of Toyota in the World Rally Championship's manufacturers' standings, and Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak are sitting first and second in the drivers' points. So is Toyota in crisis? That's a question we ask on this week's edition of SPIN, The Rally Pod. Host David Evans is joined by George Donaldson, Brenten Kelly and Jon Scoltock to dissect Sardinia's major talking points. Is Toyota's use of its part-time drivers not helping Elfyn Evans' title chances? Did Neuville get it wrong by pushing too hard on Saturday? And what about the ‘sprint' format of the event: did it work? We also look ahead to the American Rally Association's latest round this weekend, the Southern Ohio Forest Rally.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
A dramatically reduced number of stages means a very different looking Rally Sardinia. In this episode of SPIN, the rally pod, Colin Clark, David Evans, Jon Scoltock and George Donaldson discuss whether Thierry Neuville's Friday disadvantage could be nullified, if the new route offers value for fans, and what the WRC can do to increase its reach.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
A dramatic Rally Portugal brought plenty of talking points to the World Rally Championship last weekend. While Toyota's Sébastien Ogier secured his second consecutive WRC victory with a masterclass performance, Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville significantly extended his lead atop the drivers' championship standings. Titles are won by maximizing your points on events where winning isn't possible, and Neuville appears to have mastered that approach. Was it a champions' drive that we witnessed last weekend? Our experts have their say on this week's edition of SPIN, The Rally Pod, as Colin Clark and Jon Scoltock are joined by ex-driver Simon Hughes to discuss the action. A deflated Elfyn Evans and his unflappable co-driver Scott Martin, the rise of Adrien Fourmaux into a leading contender, and Portuguese ice cream are just a few more of the topics the intrepid trio chew over. Croatia Rally's ‘Super Sunday' proved to be particularly dramatic as mistakes by Thierry Neuville and Elfyn Evans on the same stage proved costly on the latest round of the World Rally Championship. But just how did those errors occur? Were Neuville and Evans unlucky or could they consider themselves fortunate to be able to continue and limit their time loss? Ott Tänak too had his fair show of moments on the treacherous SS18, while Adrien Fourmaux lost more time than anyone – but bounced back to win the powerstage. George Donaldson and David Evans join host Alasdair Lindsay for the latest edition of SPIN, The Rally Pod, where George provides expert analysis on the moments in question. Rally winner Sébastien Ogier's scathing indictment of the 2024 points system provides another talking point, while there is also discussion of Croatia's chances of appearing on the 2025 calendar and the latest driver set to compete aboard Rally1 machinery.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Thierry Neuville heads to this week's Croatia Rally with a six-point lead in the World Rally Championship standings. He's been at the top of the pile ever since the season kicked off in January - but he's had to rely on some stunning ‘Super Sunday' performances on the past two rounds. Is the Hyundai driver building a sustained title bid? Or can Elfyn Evans find that elusive sweet spot with his Toyota GR Yaris and strike a momentum-swinging blow on a rally he won last year? With pressure building on Ott Tänak to produce a strong result, Adrien Fourmaux seeking a third consecutive podium, and returns for eight-time world champion Sébastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen, there's plenty of WRC talking points for Colin Clark and David Evans on this week's SPIN, The Rally Pod. The pair also look back on a fantastic Otago Rally in New Zealand and ponder the state of play with the WRC calendar.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hyundai's Thierry Neuville took an emphatic victory on the 2024 Monte Carlo Rally, the opening round of the World Rally Championship season. But how did it stack up against some of the great Monte Carlo drives of the past? And what indications does it provide for the season to come?
There is plenty of intrigue surrounding the 2024 World Rally Championship season which begins this weekend with its annual visit to Monte Carlo. The championship has been blown wide open following the news that reigning world champion Kalle Rovanpera has opted to run part time in order to recharge his batteries for a full-time return in 2025. Rovanpera's absence means the title battle is likely to be fought between Toyota's Elfyn Evans, a three-time championship runner-up, and the Hyundai duo of 2019 world champion Ott Tanak and five-time runner-up Thierry Neuville. Why might Rovanperä have felt the need to do this? What will he do instead? What does this mean for Elfyn Evans, Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak and co, and does Rovanperä's absence for one year only devalue a championship win?And don't worry, we haven't forgotten about Rally Japan either! Colin Clark is joined by George Donaldson and Luke Barry to review the WRC's first Central European Rally. Having become a two-time world champion at the age of 23, is Kalle Rovanperä aready staking a claim to be the best ever? Also up for discussion is the importance of Thierry Neuville's win, given the changing dynamics at Hyundai next year, the progress of the WRC's young drivers and the impression left by the CER itself.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
