For Tony Reid, this case began as a claim of innocence in the murder of Donna Jo Richmond in 1975. While the errors in the original investigation and a flawed trial resulted in a guilty verdict, the reassessment confirmed that the defendant was framed but the question became: by whom? Working with a new team of investigators, which included two of the original detectives, the probe uncovered a startling new possibility: Was the real culprit a serial offender?Turning to the public for information, Mr. Reid created the 12/26/75 podcast. Based on primary evidence and new interviews surrounding the murder of Donna Jo on that date in Exeter, California, the team re-examined every possibility. The investigators soon found something more than a terribly failed verdict. They discovered connections to the unsolved murders of Jennifer Armour and Claude Snelling—and links to The East Area Rapist. They uncovered shocking corruption by the original lead investigator who illegally destroyed trial evidence and looked into the unexplained death of the original defense attorney. This pursuit led them right back to Exeter, where a new suspect in these murders emerged: Joseph DeAngelo, who was then a full-time sergeant with the local police department, the officer in charge of violent crimes and burglary investigations. This book is more than an adaptation of the 12/26/75 podcast. It shares new insight formed during the investigation and provides a first-hand look at the Tulare crimes, as well as exposing the faulty evidence used to obtain and maintain the false conviction. More than anything else, 12/26/75 demonstrates the enormous consequences of letting a serial killer go free, made worse when combined with the painful mistakes, in-fighting, and finger-pointing by certain jurisdictions. The catastrophic results are undeniable. Now that the mystery of how it all unfolded is revealed, we can also begin to examine the reforms necessary to prevent this tragedy from happening again.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Season 2 Episode 13 - Better Beats Entertainment by Tony Reid and Ramon Pineiro
In this very special episode we talk about the life, times and scandals of Angus Taylor, the Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction. Angus Taylor, this is your lifeAngus Taylor and his wife Louise are apparently extremely litigious.Taylor had a career before politics at McKinsey. His brother, Charlie Taylor is a senior partner at McKinsey. While at McKinsey, Taylor played a large role in setting Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest company. If you’ve heard of McKinsey, it might have been via the US Presidential election primaries. They have ties to US intelligence.Taylor has hated renewable energy for a long time. In 2013 he spoke at a “Stop these things” anti-wind farm campaign.Angus Taylor’s brother Richard founded a company called Growth Farms Australia, a $400 million dollar agricultural fund manager. Richard is also the director of a company called Jam Land.He also has interests in a whole mess of Cayman-islands registered companies with names like Eastern Australian Irrigation and Agricultural Managers Limited, along with Gufee, the Taylor family investment firm.2013 was a big yearIn 2013, Angus Taylor was by far far the biggest donor to the LNP, giving $155,000 to the party. He was also elected to the seat of Hume.As a backbencher, he was strongly anti-renewable energy.Jamming up the grasslandsJamland is a company Angus Taylor’s family investment fund is heavily invested in, and his brother Richard is a director of the company. The company was investigated by the NSW government, but the investigation went nowhere. The Federal Government opened an investigation into the poisoning, but Josh Frydenburg’s office started looking into whether they could secretly weaken the environmental protections.John Auer—a former part-owner of Jamland—was convicted of illegally poisoning 420 wedge-tailed eagles.WatergateIn July of 2017, Eastern Australia Agriculture was paid $79m by the federal government for water licences. This was done without a tender and netting massive profits for EAA.EAA then used debt loading and Cayman islands-trickery to avoid paying any tax on the deal. The water credits were valued by Colliers, a company previously retained by EAA.Tony Reid, who formerly worked with Taylor at McKinsey, was heavily involved in the deals.Reid at the time also worked for Growth Farms Australia, a company invested in by Gufee, the Taylor family investment fund.Richard Taylor (Angus’ brother), is a director at Growth Farms.Clover Moore newsAngus Taylor’s office a document apparently showing that Clover Moore, the Lord Mayor of Sydney spent $14.2m on travel. The document with those figures never existed on the Sydney City council website. (the council actually spent $228,000).The investigation into the doctored documents was dropped by the NSW Police (Scott Morrison called the NSW police commissioner, an old mate). The Australian Federal Police investigation was dropped too, after they “formed no concluded view”.The rumour mill suggests Taylor’s wife, Louise Clegg, was planning a run for Lord Mayor.Self-congratulatory AngusAngus Taylor once wrote a comment on his own Facebook post: “Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus”Future AngusAngus Taylor is up to his usual tricks, pushing gas and coal as the plan for future energy generation. There’s also talk of a massive new gas pipeline, and an end to bans on fracking.Taylor is also blocking any kind of Australian emissions plan, refusing to put in place any kind of target.Australia’s climate policy was ranked 0 out of 100 in a global performance index.ActionsChange your electricity provider and buy renewable energy
Dr. Reid is Chief Scientific Officer and President of EpicentRx and discusses their groundbreaking work. He explains How viruses typically seek out specific cell types, How researchers at EpicentRx were able to engineer a virus to seek out cancer cells for infection, and When the public will be able to utilize this antitumor activity to fight cancer. Dr. Tony Reid obtained his PhD in biochemistry and his MD at Stanford and actually built the foundation of his present work during his graduate efforts there. He begins by explaining how viruses work. For example, adenoviruses have various manifestations that target certain cell types such as lung or gut cells. EpicentRx has taken that characteristic and engineered a virus to attack and kill cancer cells without harming other bodily cells. In addition, the virus alters the immune system so other cancer cells can be seen and treated effectively. Rather than using virus research to create antiviral medication, they've used it to create anticancer medication. Dr. Reid explains the process more closely, how after detecting molecular switches that told a virus to infect lung tissue, they knocked that signal out so it wouldn't be able to infect lung tissue, and ended up with a weakened virus. They went in and sequenced the virus and made very small, deliberate changes so it would infect cancer cells. He discusses the intricacies in more detail, the studies they've done, and says they've already gotten FDA approval and hope to release the medication and engage in antitumor activity this year. He finishes by addressing the coronavirus and says his company is actually working on an antiviral medication, more specifically a vaccine that will be successful for the general public but also for immune-suppressed and compromised individuals such as cancer patients. For more, see the company's website at http://www.epicentrx.com/.

To write a comprehensive history of Southeast Asia is a task reserved for precious few scholars: historians of unrivaled skill and formidable knowledge. Anthony Reid is among them. His new book, A History of Southeast Asia: Critical Crossroads (Wiley Blackwell, 2015), is almost impossibly vast in scale and ambitious in scope, ranging across familiar territory while drawing out major new themes in the history of one of the world’s most diverse yet nevertheless coherent regions. Writing against the “seductive pressure” to view past political and cultural arrangements as analogues of our own, Reid draws on the resources of a life spent studying and writing Southeast Asian history to take the reader on a journey from the nagara polities and stateless majorities of a thousand years ago to the rise of high modernism in the places that today we know as Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam. His strong engagement with major debates will appeal to specialists, yet the book is also highly accessible to students new to study of the region. Tony Reid joins New Books in Southeast Asian Studies to discuss civilizations without cities, global war in the Indian Ocean, state evasion, the shared poverty of late colonial rule, and the role of women in the economies and societies of Southeast Asia from earliest times to the present day. Tony Reid joins New Books in Southeast Asian Studies to discuss civilizations without cities, global war in the Indian Ocean, state evasion, the shared poverty of late colonial rule, and the role of women in the economies and societies of Southeast Asia from earliest times to the present day.
