But the more I'm becoming involved in marketing, social media; the more travelling I do; the more events that I'm at – I'm realising that I'm looking around the table, and I'm the only woman.” [18.33] The people who inspire Margo, both in and out of the industry. [19.24] How working with a coach, to tackle self-limiting beliefs, during the pandemic helped Margo find her voice. [23.31] What Margo has learned about herself along the course of her journey so far, and what the future holds. “My favourite thing is building relationships and inspiring others to get into supply chain.” [25.17] What Margo has enjoyed the most across the different areas of her career, from sales to entrepreneurship, and the things that inspire her on a daily basis. “I'm a risk-taker. I love to think about how we can innovate and collaborate and make the world a better place – and streamline supply chain!” [28.29] Margo's advice for business leaders. Shelly Covington Montana is a native Texan, known as a wilderness and wildlife enthusiast and a Bigfoot researcher with a passion for conservation and preservation. Shelly's search for the truth was fueled by her husband's unexplained encounter in the winter of 1982 in the forest of east Texas. She has commented on continually improving her education through Citizen Science. She promotes that you should continuously push yourself to learn in the field of Wildlife Behavior and conservation. It can only increase your ability to bring forth concrete evidence. It's crucial to separate factual research from emotionally biased research. "Facts are truth, and I am hopeful with proper Wildlife DNA collection and analysis, it could be a benefit and a standard in the search of the enigma we call Bigfoot." She is a Level II certified Wildlife Tracker. She is in constant works on her Citizen Science Wildlife DNA kits. As of late, she created the Sasquatch Alba Vernix DNA collection and Latent Print kit that are available on her website.Michael Waldie was born and raised in the Great State of Texas. He has been an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life and now a very active Bigfoot researcher. Having spent so many years in the woods, he never thought that he would be using his experience to search for an unknown creature one day. Michael has unexplained events that were finally answered in 2004. That's when a sighting map of the TBRC (Texas Bigfoot Research Center) put Bigfoot in his vocabulary as this could be real. Michael is a co-founder of the group Texas Bigfoot Rangers. Michael's passion for this research is only matched by his love for the technology used in the field. Michael has created many different combinations of gear in his quest to find this creature. Michael's avid interest in using technology to further this research and his ability to think outside the box make him a breath of fresh air to the research community and an asset to all who have had a chance to research with him.
Episode 10 of Season 2 already?!?! The weeks are just melting away as we continue to enjoy the paradise of lockdown (convincing?) It's another belter of an episode as we're joined by James Waldie. James enjoys running, like us all, but he's also not bad at it. not bad at all in fact. As you'll be able to tell when he modestly lets us know his 5k PB. James though is a man who prefers the steep stuff offered in fell and hill racing, listen in to find out why. James also enjoys an interesting day job, he's Operations Director with Active Root, the Edinburgh based Ginger Sports Nutrition, a firm favourite of your podcast hosts! We spend some time talking about the Active Root story and finding out just why it's becoming the go-to hydration choice for so many. We get to find out heaps about James, how he got into running from a young age, how his Dad played a huge part in his coaching, how he's taken pride in representing his country (what country though?!) as well as some utterly jaw dropping days out in the Scottish Hill racing circuit.....ok, not all of them were successful, but aren't those the ones we learn most from?? And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32 But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: 33 partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; 34 for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. 35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 37 “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” 39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. ------------------ 5 Core Values of SWAT 1. This week's book is an unconventional memoir: in 300 short, numbered sections, Waldie investigates the origins of his hometown, a suburb outside of Los Angeles considered the Levittown of Southern California, as well as his own life there and the lives of his parents. We talk about the book's unusual construction, and how it creates connections and meaning through surprising juxtapositions. Also this week: the triumphant return of Fan Fiction Corner! Colin Marshall sits down in Lakewood City Hall with D.J. Waldie, author of books like Holy Land: A Suburban Memoir and Where We Are Now: Notes from Los Angeles, collaborator on books like Real City with photographer Marissa Roth, and a 34-year employee of the City of Lakewood as Public Information Officer and Deputy City Manager. They discuss the importance of Wallace Stevens' "work and walking" to his own writing; his advice to the latest wave of Los Angeles newcomers looking for solutions to the problem of how to live here; what it means to lead a "redemptive" suburban life, and whether "suburban" means the same thing to every writer; Lakewood and other rapidly built postwar tract-home communities as exciting, frightening experiments in living from which new democratic vistas could well; the meaning of Lakewood's motto that "Times Change, Values Don't"; how considerable variation can arise from built uniformity; his premise that there are no "good" places, and his ongoing interest in the question of what would happen if you fell in love with the place where you are; how knowledge of a place, if not quite love for it, can enrich the experience of that place; how the newest Angelenos seem to long to connect to and invest in their place; and how Los Angeles' resistance to its own history has contributed to bad choices over the years, leading to frustrations financial, racial, and otherwise. A land of palm trees and movie stars, sunshine and glamour, Los Angeles inhabits a place of the mind as much as it does a physical geographic space. Often imagined of as a kind of paradise, the actual reality of the city is far more complex. Join us for cartographic history of the City of Angels from the colonial era to the present, with Creason, author and LAPL map librarian and Waldie, cultural critic and author of Holy Land.
D. J. Waldie loves the suburbs. He was born in one of the tract houses manufactured by the thousands in Lakewood, California. He lives there still, and today works for the city. His book Holy Land is a strange and beautiful mix of personal memoir and suburban history. Waldie tells us why the cheap tract houses of these 1940s suburbs are almost idealistic. Produced by David Krasnow and Will Becton.
"Crimes litter the floor of California's great Central Valley like fallen plums . . . Old ties of blood, friendship, and memory are harshly tested . . . but hope takes root in the valley's generous yet unforgiving soil." (D.J. Waldie)
