It's Friday, June 14th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus North Korea sent 1,400 helium balloons with manure and trash to South Korea South Korean Christian ministries have sent GPS-guided balloons carrying pages of Scripture and USB devices featuring the Bible into North Korea where owning a Bible can be punishable by execution. In retaliation for what it calls “anti-North Korean propaganda,” North Korea, led by the dictator Kim Jong Un, sent more than 1,400 helium balloons filled with trash and manure into South Korea, reports International Christian Concern. The South Korean military has intercepted many of the balloons. In response to the helium balloon-delivered manure and trash, South Korean officials resumed loudspeaker broadcasts at specific border areas. Subsequently, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, warned South Korea that these loudspeaker broadcasts, leaflets, and USB devices could soon provoke a “crisis of confrontation” between the two nations. She added that the manure and trash balloons were “sincere presents” sent to the “goblins of liberal democracy who are crying for the guarantee of freedom of expression.” Join me and specifically pray Ezekial 36:26 for Kim Jong Un and his sister, Kim Yo Jong, who are spiritually lost. The verse describes how God “will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” According to Open Doors, North Korea is the world's most dangerous country in which to be a Christian. Trans World Radio, which broadcasts into North Korea from South Korea, received an email from a North Korean listener who said, “Without your programs, love and dedication, we would not have access to the Gospel of our Father in Heaven and we would be lost." Supreme Court allows Abortion Kill Pill to be sent through mail Yesterday, the Supreme Court made a terrible decision. It ruled against pro-life doctors and others who challenged the Food and Drug Administration's decision to loosen restrictions on the distribution of the Abortion Kill Pill, reports LifeSiteNews.com. In the unanimous decision in the case titled FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote, “The plaintiffs lack standing to sue to stop the law. Specifically, the FDA's regulations apply to doctors prescribing mifepristone and to pregnant women taking mifepristone. But the plaintiff doctors and medical associations do not prescribe or use mifepristone.” The Food and Drug Administration decided to make chemical abortion as widely available as possible as part of the Biden-Harris pro-abortion agenda. Dr. Ingrid Skop, the Medical Director of the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, previously said, “The FDA's decision to weaken commonsense safeguards, removing doctors from the process, shows they prioritize ending unborn life over the health and safety of women.” In addition to directly ending an innocent human life, abortion drugs are also dangerous for women. Side effects and complications that accompany chemical abortions are: pain, possibly severe heavy and/or prolonged bleeding for multiple weeks fever infection incomplete abortion (requiring surgical follow-up) nausea and vomiting diarrhea feeling dizzy or having a headache short to lasting hot flashes hemorrhage blood clots undetected ectopic pregnancy, which is life-threatening and permanent infertility for an Rh-negative mother. God sent two rescuers to save father and 2 boys in Colorado River A week ago Thursday, when the inflatable kayak a father and his two young sons were using in the Colorado River flipped over in a rapid, the family became scattered in raging waters, reported KSL-TV. Providentially, Eric Odenthal saw the terrifying crisis unfold. ODENTHAL: “I just seen the kids floating downstream, struggling.” Indeed, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, “The 10-year-old was reportedly wearing a belt-pack [personal flotation device] or PFD that inflated with a C02 cartridge. It flipped the boy over so he was face down in the water. And the 8-year-old was wearing a [life preserver] that was too big and failed to keep his head above water.” Odenthal called out to his friend, Gaar Lausman, who jumped on his paddleboard. ODENTHAL: “You need to go right now. This is really important. Get those kids out of the water.” But, while the kids were scooped up, the dad, who had not been wearing a life jacket at all, was further away and barely able to keep above water, reports FaithWire.com. ODENTHAL: “He's getting pulled by eddies. His face is barely above water.” Just when it seemed all hope was lost, as the father sunk down below the water's surface, God sent along a second Good Samaritan. A man named Daniel Wright suddenly emerged on a jet ski. ODENTHAL: “It was literally a miracle this guy showed up.” According to the Grand County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, Wright initially passed by the father because he didn't see him. WRIGHT: “Initially, I thought it was just kind of debris in the water.” It wasn't until the man on the paddleboard got his attention that he turned around and found him. For his part, Wright scrambled to reach the father, who, at that point was reaching his hand up out of the water in a final attempt at being rescued. WRIGHT: “He realized that was it. That was what he had left was reaching out to me. I had to help him. I had to get him.” Once he got him safely to shore, Wright described what happened next. WRIGHT: “I gave him a hug and I embraced him, you know, when I got him out of the water because it was an emotional moment.” Grand County Sheriff's Search and Rescue concluded its post by encouraging people to wear “properly-fitted, and properly-worn” safety gear. As for Wright, he credited the Lord for his ability to be present and help out. WRIGHT: “I'm just really thankful and I really just think God just had me right there at the right time.” No doubt, he echoes the sentiment of Psalm 9:1. “I will give thanks to You, LORD, with all my heart. I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.” Virginia Worldview listener shares why he gave $500 Last night, I called Danny in Abingdon, Virginia, a Worldview listener who donated $500 to help keep this newscast on the air. He explained what he appreciates. DANNY: “I just like that you all provide an option for news that is filtered through a Biblical lens so that you're reporting news and how it relates to believers in Christ, and how the Bible would speak to the news of the day. I think y'all might be the only option, that I know of, that provides that for believers. And I appreciate that and I want to support that and hope that that continues.” Danny especially likes the fact that we cite two relevant Bible verses connected to two of our weekday stories. DANNY: “When I see that Bible verses are referenced in some of the stories, it just helps me be mindful of the Biblical worldview is the truth, and that we need to constantly be bringing the stories and news reports back to the truth which is in the Holy Scriptures.” He challenged other listeners to join him and make an online donation through our website TheWorldview.com. DANNY: “I would just challenge those that value The Worldview in 5 Minutes, who support this because I think this is one of the only options that Christians have to get news from a Biblical worldview. We need to support that because it's important and there's not many other options, if any at all out there. Very valuable for believers to have that option.” 11 Worldview listeners gave $1,807 Toward our $57,100 mid-point goal by 5:00pm Central on Saturday, June 15th to fund the 6-member Worldview team for another year, 11 Worldview listeners made a donation yesterday online. Our thanks to Jay in Lees Summit, Missouri, Hannah in Leo, Indiana, Rachel in Washougal, Washington, and Christopher in Deposit, New York – each of whom gave $25. We appreciate Faith in Coeur D Alene, Idaho, Jane in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, and Jon in Newton, New Jersey – each of whom gave $50. And we thank God for the generosity of Michael in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada who gave $150, Marcia in Franklin, Tennessee who pledged $25 per month for 12 months for a gift of $300, Katie in Hutchinson, Kansas who gave $507, and Barbara in Mesa, Arizona who pledged $50 per month for 12 months for a gift of $600. Those 11 donors gave $1,807. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (sound effect of drum roll) $28,635 (audience cheering) By 5:00pm Central on Saturday night, June 15th, we need to raise $28,465 in order to hit our mid-point goal. In an audience this size -- with tens of thousands who listen through the 125 radio stations which now carry us as well as through our website and the Generations app, I'm confident that 20 Worldview listeners could each pledge $100 per month for 12 months for a gift of $1,200. Those 20 pledges would add up to $24,000. The remaining $4,465 could be raised through smaller one-time gifts or smaller monthly pledges. Will you step up to the plate and help us raise the $28,465 we need by Saturday night at 5:00pm Central? Please go to TheWorldview.com, click on “Give,” select the dollar amount you'd like to donate, and click on the recurring monthly tab if that's your wish. Let's see what the Lord will do through you! Internationally-acclaimed and award-winning singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith first sang and strummed his way into the hearts of music lovers in the early-mid 1990s. At that time, the distorted fuzz and raw angst of grunge bands dominated the airwaves, and most "folk" singers watched from the sidelines, clutching their acoustic guitars and cursing their lack of effects pedals - but not Ron. Amidst the dense and glorious swirl of guitar rock, Sexsmith offered up his self-titled debut album of simple, heartfelt songs. The melodically refined and gracefully sculpted nature of his music gradually won the singer fans around the world, including rock n roll dignitaries such as Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, and Paul McCartney. 30-ish years and 17 albums later, Ron Sexsmith has become one of the most revered songwriters in the world, while continuing to create music that is essential, fresh, and timeless. In this conversation, Ron guides host Jane Gowan and co-host Tim Vesely through the storied travels and charmed encounters of his illustrious career to date.Sexsmith turned 60 this January. To celebrate this milestone, he and his band are performing a special one-night-only concert on Feb 29 at Toronto's Massey Hall. My guest on this episode is Ron Sexsmith. Ron is an award-winning singer songwriter who has earned praised from people like Elvis Costello, Elton John, Ray Davies of the Kinks, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen, and Paul McCartney. His songs have been covered by Rod Stewart, Nick Lowe, Emmy Lou Harris, Feist, and Michael Bublé, among many others. His most recent album is The Vivian Line. Ron's first book, Deer Life: A Fairy Tale, was published in 2017 by Dundurn Press. In its review of the book, Publishers Weekly said that “Sexsmith's novel has much the same effect as his music, conveying uncertainty with fearlessness and heart.” Ron and I talk about the odd start of his artistic career, about the intense feeling of imposter syndrome he had when Deer Life first came out, his aborted attempt to write a prequel to the book, and about his plans to write and record songs to accompany the book, which he hopes will one day form the basis of a musical or even a film. It's Monday, July 17th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Mayflower Chinese Pastor: U.S. must pressure China on religious liberty A pastor who led a congregation of 64 Chinese Christians from religious persecution in China thanked God for bringing them to freedom in the United States. However, he also warned that many faithful heroes still face oppression from the Chinese Communist Party, reports The Christian Post. Pastor Pan Yongguang of the Mayflower Church, whose members fled to South Korea in 2019 after encountering threats and interrogations from Chinese police, spoke outside the U.S. Capitol Wednesday alongside ChinaAid Founder Bob Fu. The Mayflower Church gained its name after its members arrived at South Korea's Jeju Island seeking religious freedom, similar to the 17th-century Protestant separatists who traveled to the British colonies. They later traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, hoping to get refugee status from the United Nations, but were detained in an immigration detention center. Four years after fleeing the Chinese Communist Party, Pan and 63 members of the church received humanitarian parole in the United States. In April, they arrived in Dallas, Texas, after concentrated efforts from Fu and multiple government officials and agencies to negotiate their release. Pastor Pan believes the U.S. government should put "pressure" on the persecutors in China. Micah 6:8 asks, “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Benjamin Netanyahu rushed to hospital On Saturday, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was rushed to a hospital to undergo medical tests. Netanyahu, age 73, was briefly hospitalized in October, after feeling pain in his chest in the weeks before last year's election. Tucker Carlson vs. Mike Pence Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson clashed with former Vice President Mike Pence at The Family Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday. Listen. CARLSON: “I'm sorry, Mr. Vice President, have you, I know you're running for president. You are …” PENCE: “Thank you. Thank you for noticing.” CARLSON: “You are distressed that the Ukrainians don't have enough American tanks. Every city in the United States has become much worse over the past three years.” PENCE: “Yeah.” CARLSON: “Drive around. There's not one city that's gotten better in the United States. And it's visible. Our economy has degraded, the suicide rate has jumped, public filth and disorder and crime have exponentially increased. And yet, your concern is that the Ukrainians, a country most people can't find on a map, who've received tens of billions of US tax dollars don't have enough tanks. I think it's a fair question to ask like, ‘Where's the concern for the United States in that?'” PENCE: “Well, it's not my concern. Tucker, I've heard that routine from you before, but that's not my concern. I'm running for President of the United States because I think this country's in a lot of trouble. I think Joe Biden has weakened America at home and abroad. “And as President of the United States, we're going to restore law and order in our cities. We're going to secure our border. We're going to get this economy moving again. And we're going to make sure that we have men and women on our courts at every level that will stand for the right to life and defend all the God-given liberties enshrined in our Constitution. Anybody that says that we can't be the leader of the free world and solve our problems at home has a pretty small view of the greatest nation on Earth. We can do both.” Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: Fauci caused injury by withholding early COVID treatment Appearing on Fox News with Jesse Watters, Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. chastised Dr. Anthony Fauci for withholding effective treatments for the coronavirus that led to a disproportionate number of deaths in America compared to countries which equipped their citizens with preventive measures. WATTERS: “Tell me about Fauci. You wrote this big fat book – [Real Anthony Fauci]. You think Fauci is the Devil.” KENNEDY: “I think [Fauci] caused a lot of injury by withholding early treatment from Americans. We racked up the highest death count in the world. We only have 4.2% of the globe's population, but we had 16% of the COVID deaths in this country. And that was from bad policy. “There's countries that did the opposite of what we did -- that provided ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, other early treatments to their populations, and had 1/200 of our death rate! Oh, there are many, many things that we did wrong in this country. And some of those were knowingly. Some of the things that were done by public health officials at that time, they knew that they would be harmful!” Kennedy also addressed why America has not held China accountable for creating the coronavirus in the Wuhan lab. WATTERS: “Why hasn't the Biden administration punished China?” KENNEDY: “I think one of the reasons we haven't investigated the [Chinese] Wuhan Lab is because the U.S. government, not just through the NIH [National Institutes of Health], but through the CIA, and through USAID [United States Agency for International Development], was actually funding the studies in the Wuhan Lab. And we did a very, very big technology transfer of bio weapons technology to the Wuhan lab, bio weapons technology that was developed at NIH expense.” Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. noted that the National Institutes of Health gave $26 million in funding to the Wuhan lab. And the United States Agency for International Development, which was functioning as a CIA surrogate, gave over $64 million. Plus, the Pentagon also gave a lot of money. Numbers 32:33 warns, “Your sin will find you out.” 13-year-old Callie's gift of her tithe money to The Worldview On Friday, I featured soundbites from my conversation with 14-year-old Theo Jantz, a Worldview listener in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada, who donated $13.13 to keep this newscast on the air. He challenged other kids to donate some of their tithe money as well. Callie Mishchenko, a 13-year-old listener in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, accepted that challenge and donated $32. CALLIE: “Theo challenged to empty your tithing [jar] to The Worldview. So, that's what I did.” She explained where the $32 came from. CALLIE: “The $32 is from me doing jobs around the house and I put 10% of it into tithing.” McMANUS: “What are the jobs around the house?” CALLIE: “Helping watch some of my siblings, scoop and poop, weeding.” McMANUS: “Scoop and poop? This is a new one. Is that for the dog, the cat, the cow, the horse? What do we have out there? The other siblings? Are the siblings going in the yard?” CALLIE: “No, scooping the poop is for the dogs. Scooping the dogs' poop.” McMANUS: “How many dogs do you have? CALLIE: “Two. Two dogs.” McMANUS: “What is it?” CALLIE: “Scoop and poop.” McMANUS: “Scoop and poop? It makes more sense to say ‘poop and scoop' because the poop happens first. Then, the scoop happens second. You can't scoop until they poop. So, you really need to say, ‘Poop and scoop.' Why do y'all have it backwards there in Canada?” CALLIE: “I don't know.” On a more serious note, I asked Callie's father, Dan, what he appreciated about The Worldview newscast. DAN: “You're one of the regular sources where I get to hear about the persecuted church. Although it breaks my heart, we need to know as Christians who are isolated here in North America. I really appreciate that.” 29 Worldview listeners gave $6,336.40 We broke our one-day, 25-donor record this year. Incredibly, 29 Worldview listeners donated toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air. Our thanks to Katrina, the 8-year-old sister of Callie, in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, who gave $1.80. We appreciate Sarah in Tacoma, Washington, Shari in Lehigh Acres, Florida, DeAnne in St. Paul, Minnesota, Eileen in Brentwood, Tennessee, and Sally in Milford, Ohio – each of whom gave $25. We thank God for Callee in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada who gave $32 as well as Herb in Greenville, Texas and David in Colorado Springs, Colorado – both of whom gave $50, and Eben in Kansas City, Missouri who gave $75. We were touched by the kindness of Max in Cordova, Illinois, Sally in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Michelle in Sparta, Michigan, Summer in Calvert City, Kentucky, and George in Leesburg, Virginia – each of whom gave $100 as well as Paul in Keller, Texas who pledged $10/month for 12 months for a total gift of $120. Three cheers for Kathryn in Apple Valley, California who gave $162.60, Tristan in Summerdale, Alabama who gave $170, Richard in Ooltewah, Tennessee who gave $250, and Rick in Elma, Washington who gave $300. Kudos to Lucinda in Winfield, Missouri, Mary in Phoenix, Arizona, Adrian in Black Creek, British Columbia, Canada, Richard in Camden, Wyoming, and Carlee in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada – each of whom pledged $25/month for 12 months for a total gift of $300 each. And we ‘re grateful for the generosity of Tim in Newton, Kansas who gave $500, Benton in Kingwood, Texas and Casey in Apple Valley, California – both of whom pledged $50/month for 12 months for a total gift of $600 each, and Roger in Rapid City, South Dakota who gave $1,300. Those 29 new donations add up to $6,336.40. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $26,293.41 (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $60,000 immediate goal by this Friday, July 21st, we need to raise $33,706.59. Remember how I announced on Friday that I had a special update about this month-long fundraiser? Well, here's the exciting news! Shannan in Alexandria, Minnesota is offering to match, dollar for dollar, the next 10 Worldview listeners who pledge $50/month for 12 months or give a one-time gift of $600. Thanks to Shannan's match, your total annual gift will be $1,200 instead of $600. That's an amazingly generous offer! When 10 people make that pledge, we will have raised $12,000. So, if you have been waiting on the sidelines, and you have the financial ability to step up to the plate with a $50 monthly pledge, please do so today. That would leave us with $21,706.09 to raise by this Friday. Then, we would need to find another 18 people to pledge $50/month for 12 months. And another 32 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months. With multiple thousands of listeners on multiple platforms, we know that God can indeed provide these funds. Just go to TheWorldview.com and click on “Give” at the top right to give what the Lord is prompting you to donate. Make sure to select the “Recurring” tab if that's your wish. Whether you give $5 or $5,000, we need your help right now to ensure we have the funds to continue to research, write, edit, voice, and distribute The Worldview -- week in and week out -- for the next year. Giving you the Christian perspective that you have come to appreciate. Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Monday, July 17th in the year of our Lord 2023. It's Friday, July 14th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Afghan Christians continue to suffer under the Taliban Since the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, religious and civil liberties have rapidly deteriorated under Taliban rule. Christians face regular raids on their homes by the Taliban, frequently receive threats against their jobs and families, and lack access to educational opportunities, reports International Christian Concern. The Taliban has practically eradicated on-the-ground relief efforts by aid groups. Plus, because it's working to completely erase Christianity from the country many Christians have gone underground to avoid being kidnapped by the Taliban “courts.” The rising starvation rates and increasing poverty in Afghanistan create an even higher security threat to these believers since the Taliban is now offering financial compensation to anyone who reports on Christians. Unless ransomed by their families, Christians captured by the “courts” face brutal torture and even death. If redeemed, the survivors and their families, often bankrupt from the exorbitant ransom demands, must flee their homes to avoid repeated kidnappings from the various Taliban gangs. Because many Afghani Muslims are dissatisfied with their religion, they are open to Christianity despite the risks. Believers are hosting secret prayer meetings which is incredibly courageous, considering the implications. Acts 5:29 says, “We ought to obey God rather than man.” Secret Service closes cocaine investigation in The White House On Thursday, the Secret Service officially and mysteriously closed its investigation into how cocaine ended up in the West Wing of the White House without identifying a suspect, reports ABC News. In its report, the Secret Service said, "There was no surveillance video footage found that provided investigative leads or any other means for investigators to identify who may have deposited the found substance in this area." Hollywood shuts down as actors go on strike Tens of thousands of Hollywood actors went on strike at midnight Thursday, effectively bringing the giant movie and television business to a halt as they join writers in the first industry-wide walkout for 63 years, reports AFP. The Screen Actors Guild issued a strike order after last-ditch talks with studios on their demands over dwindling pay and the threat posed by artificial intelligence ended without a deal. College student caught vandalizing pregnancy center A college student is facing federal charges for the vandalism of a pro-life pregnancy center in Ohio, as many similar organizations have been vandalized or firebombed following the U.S. Supreme Court's determination that the U.S. Constitution does not contain a right to abortion, reports The Christian Post. Last week, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio announced that Whitney Durant, a 20-year-old Bowling Green State University student, also known as “Soren Monroe,” is facing federal misdemeanor charges for vandalizing a pro-life pregnancy center in Bowling Green, Ohio. On April 15, Ohio Right to Life announced that the Bowling Green Pregnancy Center had been vandalized with the phrases "Fake Clinic," "Jane's Revenge," "Fund Abortion" and "Abort God" on the exterior wall of the pro-life center while the word "Liars" was spray-painted on the window. Jane's Revenge, a pro-abortion terrorist group, is named after the Jane's Collective in Chicago, prior to 1973, who helped mothers kill their babies illegally through abortion. On Whitney's Facebook page, she describes herself as "a communist trying to spread the gay agenda" who uses "all pronouns." One public post on her page is an ironic request to give money to the National Abortion Rights Action League to celebrate her birthday. But apparently, the abortion terrorist doesn't want to allow children inside the womb the blessing of having a birthday. In Psalm 139:13-14, King David wrote, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.” 14-year-old Canadian donates his tithe money to The Worldview Theo Jantz, a 14-year-old Worldview listener in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada, graciously donated $13.13. Because his parents noted his age in the space alongside his name on their credit card donation, I gave Theo a call yesterday. THEO: “So, I had $14 in my tithing jar. We tithe 10% of the money we earn. And that was just the money that had collected in the jar over time. And I wanted to do something with it. So, I decided to give it to The Worldview.” He explained why he gave the unusual amount of $13.13. THEO: “I did $13.13 because at the moment, it's ‘something' dollars and 88 cents, I think. I thought it'd be funny to hear ‘something' [dollars] and one cent.” Theo cited the sources for the money he has earned. THEO: “Well, it would come from three different things. [1] Picking weeds. We get paid by the garbage can. (laughs) [2] And I sell stuff for my dad and get 10% on a Canadian Craigslist. Random stuff that he has around that he doesn't really want anymore. [3] I have a very, very small business that I've made of cleaning cars.” The 14-year-old talked about a story he especially liked from Thursday's newscast. THEO: “I liked the story of the archaeologist who found Sodom. I thought that was really interesting. I really liked the part where the pottery was melted and burned. It was really good proof that it actually was Sodom. We listen to it as a family in the morning, in our morning time. I like the ending where you say ‘seize the day for Jesus Christ. ' And our whole family says it with you.” Listen to Theo's challenge to Worldview listeners. THEO: “I would like to encourage other people who have their tithing jar piling up to give it to The Worldview or to some other worthy cause.” McMANUS: “Theo, I really appreciate it. It means so much because every little bit helps.” THEO: “Thank you!” McMANUS: “God bless you. Bye bye now.” THEO: “Bye.” 16 Worldview listeners gave $5,053.13 Wow! We exceeded the 10-donor goal yesterday by 6 donors as 16 Worldview listeners gave toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air. Our thanks to Theo in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada who gave $13.13 as well as Faith in Coeur D Alene, Idaho, Mary in Chaska, Minnesota, Bonnie in Happy Valley, Oregon, Brenda in Simla, Colorado, and Jerry in Booneville, Mississippi – each of whom gave $50. We thank God for B.C. in Grandview, Washington who gave $100, as well as Raymond in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Dawna in Troy, Montana – both of whom gave $150, Elaine in San Antonio, Texas who gave $200, and Cheryl in Cumming, Georgia who pledged $20/month for 12 months for a total gift of $240. And we're grateful for the generosity of Joe and Emily in Alexandria, Indiana who gave $250 as well as Kenneth in Carthage, North Carolina and Luke in Esperance, Washington – both of whom gave $300, Andrew in Calgary, Alberta, Canada who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a total gift of $300, and an anonymous donor in Bardstown, Kentucky who gave $2,800. Those 16 new donations add up to $5,053.13. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $19,957.01 (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $40,000 immediate goal by midnight tonight, we still need to raise $20,042.99. Could you be one of 10 Worldview listeners to pledge $100/month for 12 months? Then, we would need 6 to pledge $50/month for 12 months. And another 12 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months. We are half way through the race. It would be so exciting to announce on Monday that you helped us reach the $40,000 midway goal! Just go to TheWorldview.com and click on “Give” at the top right to give what the Lord is prompting you to donate. Make sure to select the “Recurring” tab if that's your wish. Plus, I have an important fundraising update to share this coming Monday. So, stay tuned! Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, July 14th in the year of our Lord 2023. After he “couldn't get arrested” in the 80s, post-grunge opened a window through which a then 30-year old Ron Sexsmith could climb. With his sincere, low-key ballads and simple songs straight from the heart, as was his 1995 self-titled debut. Produced by legend Mitchell Froom, it was a stripped back affair but also with the signature sounds of Froom and his engineer collaborator Tchad Blake (favourites of the crew here at The Art of Longevity). Those songs came as an antidote to the loudness of grunge and the hubris of Britpop. Sexsmith was a pioneer of a style that paved the way for a wave of troubadours including Teddy Thompson, Josh Ritter, Rufus Wainwright and many more. Of all places he was signed to Interscope - then one of the world's biggest major labels. “They didn't really know what to do with me. They called me a ‘cred artist'. Someone who had good good reviews and they could point to and say - 'we're not just pop' - so they could attract other real artists.”“I coasted on that for a while, but then around my third album (Whereabouts, 1999) I saw that it didn't mean anything to them any more. To have an artist that was just good to have around”. And so that early run came to an inevitable end as Ron was slammed into the wall of the ‘dropped artist'. By then though, he was into stride as a songwriter. No longer an apprentice to those amazing producers he has worked with, he was on his way to mastering the craft. Indeed, these days he describes himself as more of a problem solver than a songwriter. This songcraft is what connects Sexsmith to the greats. When I mention to him that Spotify pays him a compliment when its continuously play/radio function will follow one of his songs with Nick Lowe, Nick Drake or some other legend, his response is modest yet enlightening. “Well I didn't know that but one of the nicest things anyone ever said about me was what Randy Newman told Mitchell (Froom) that “I like Ron because he does the work”. And I thought, yeah that's true, I do do the work. That's what I try to do and for the most part. There's not a song I could play you where I'd think the song is terrible”.That's because none of them are. May I strongly suggest you sit back and enjoy the fruits of Ron Sexsmith's labour.Support the showGet more related content at: https://www.songsommelier.com/

The Vivian Line is unlikely to land on anyone's hip/hot list. Rather Sexsmith, now pushing 60, is content to churn out radiant, sublime, transcendent music that unobtrusively exists in its own delicate bubble, inviting us in to join him on his unique musical path. American Songwriter Ron Sexsmith's albums have always had a generally laid-back vibe, but in recent years this has become ever more wistful and soothing, a listening experience rather like snuggling up in a favourite blanket and letting your troubles wash away. Sign me up. Folk Radio UK Those already deeply appreciative of Ron's songwriting chops include a stellar list of vocalists to have recorded Sexsmith compositions. That group includes such international stars as Rod Stewart, Emmylou Harris, Nick Lowe, plus Canadian favourites Michael Bublé, Feist and k.d. lang. Sexsmith's work has also elicited effusive praise from the likes of Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle and Chris Martin, to name just a few. Over the course of a recording career now spanning 36 years, Ron has been nominated for 12 Juno awards, winning three times. Now it's time to visit The Vivian Line. Explore, linger, enjoy.” Tinnitist I've had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Sexsmith many times..over the course of his 17 albums. I like diving into deep conversations with him as much as I truly love his songs and melodies. I also admire what he stands for. No co-writes, no writing by committee, no bending and shaping to suit the music fans who still don't know who he is. However, when he plays live, you know the room is filled with people who “get it” and it really does feel like a community. So what is it he “does'? Ron Sexsmith writes songs that you find yourself humming, and sings in an ever-developing soft voice that still resonates with character. His lyrics are thoughtful, kind and etched with very dry humour. I loved this conversation with Ron. I hope you do as well. His 17th album is now out – it's called The Vivian Line. Named after a rural road connection between his old home in Toronto to his new country home in Stratford. FYI – There's a reference to Richard Manual from The Band. He was born in the area and there's a bench in his memory in the countryside that Ron will visit when he's on his creative walks. Discover Ron Sexsmith. Your heart will thank you many times over.

Inside the Village - A weekly podcast featuring newsmakers in Ontario
We're in the final stretch of the Ontario election campaign, and one thing is certain: Not everyone thinks this podcast is worth their time. When the campaign kicked off, Inside the Village extended an open invitation to the leaders of all four major political parties. Two of them—Andrea Horwath of the NDP and Mike Schreiner of the Green Party—took us up on our offer. You can listen to both in-depth interviews on this special election edition of the podcast.
This week, Diana and Steve chat with the songwriter's songwriter of songwriters, none other than Mr. Ron Sexsmith!Ron talks about how Elvis Costello helped launch his early career, how the town of Stratford inspired the cover art for his new album ‘Hermitage,' and of course - he and Steve wax poetic about the beauty of a ‘good pun.'Ron shines the spotlight on his fellow musician, songwriter and friend Lori Cullen! Lori describes how music has saved her life through Covid, as well as her collaboration with Sexsmith and Swinghammer. This week on Legally Speaking with Michael Mulligan:In August of 2015, Mr. Upton was attempting to straighten a bent metal plate from the steering mechanism of his 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. He had removed it from the vehicle, placed it on a concrete step in his backyard, and was hitting it with a sledgehammer.Mr. Sexsmith was visiting Mr. Upton and watching his car repair efforts.Unfortunately, on the last occasion Mr. Upton struck the metal plate with the sledgehammer, the plate flew into the air and struck Mr. Sexsmith in the face causing significant injuries to his eye and face.Mr. Sexsmith was a professional hockey goalie. In 2007 he was drafted by the San Jose Sharks. The injuries Mr. Sexsmith suffered ended his hockey career.Mr. Upton had a $1 million homeowners insurance policy from Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. This policy excluded claims arising from the “use or operation” of “any motorized vehicle”.Mr. Upton also had $5 million in insurance on the 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air from ICBC. This policy does not cover any claim that is not a result of the “use or operation” of the Bel Air.In addition to the duty to indemnify an insured for a covered loss, an insurance company has a duty to defend a claim. This required the insurance company to pay for a lawyer to defend the claim.ICBC did not want to share the cost of defending the claim. They alleged that repairing the bent metal plate was not the “use or operation” of the car.The duty to defend a claim is quite broad and is triggered when there is a possibility that the allegations could result in a loss that would be covered by a policy. As s result, the judge hearing the case concluded that ICBC did need to pay half the cost of defending the claim. There are numerous cases that have concluded various other efforts to repair vehicles are included in the “use or operation” of a vehicle as long as the plan was to repair the vehicle so it could be driven again. Also on the show, a case involving a man driving a courtesy car from the US to Canada, with 13 kg of heroin in the trunk of the car, is discussed. In order to be convicted of importing or possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking, the Crown must prove that the person knew they had the drugs. In this case, none of the fingerprints on the drug packaging matched the man driving the car, and there was no drug residue on the gloves the man had with him.The man driving the car testified that he did not know the drugs were in the trunk and, while the judge didn’t necessarily believe the man, he was unable to conclude that he wasn’t telling the truth and so found him not guilty. Finally, on the show, a case involving a Chinese telephone scam is discussed. The fraudsters were able to persuade a retired home care worker to send her life savings of $90,000 to a Chinese bank, via a third party, and through a small wire transfer company. The funds were initially deposited into an account at CIBC. CIBC then provided a bank draft payable to the small wire transfer company.Upon being presented with the bank draft the wire transfer company sent funds to the bank in China. Before the bank draft had cleared CIBC became suspicious of the transaction and froze the money in the account. Both the small wire transfer company and the retired home care worker wanted the $90,000 in the CIBC bank account.Ultimately, the judge ordered that the funds be returned to the retired home care worker.Follow this link for a transcript of the show and links to the cases discussed.
The long awaited interview of RBC Cup Champion and Sexsmith legend Carter Wolski is finally here! Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 290 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Part 2 of an extensive 2 parter here for you with the wrestling phenomenon JACK SEXSMITH!To quote Curtis Mayfield, “Can I get a bit deeper…?” - and part 2 of this full on chat with Jack is the perfect example of where a chat gets that little bit deeper, so be prepared for some honesty, truth and observation on all things wrestling. But as Pip mentions at the start and end and at points on the last episode, we can all get along wherever we stand on the wrestling scale. Dividing factions will come into play under whatever the unifying umbrella is, and wrestling isn’t immune to it, but everyone can definitely stand together within it. Anyway - as promised, this is a proper goody and the ideal accompaniment to part 1. Jack goes in on his merch game, regrets, acceptance and different worlds of sexuality, the piece in The Sun, the current state of British Wrestling, Jimmy Havoc, adventures in indie wrestling, his WWE tryout and tricky politics of big companies, divisions within fan universes, and a healthy dose of potentially controversial wrestling scientificial nuggets. Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 290 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Part 1 of an extensive 2 parter here for you with the wrestling phenomenon JACK SEXSMITH!“I’ll be the sex guy, then…”So much to talk about that Pip and Jack went in for almost two hours on this one! As you’ll hear, two hours barely even scratches the surface as there is just so much ground to cover… They begin at the end, Memento style, with Jack’s recent injury which resulted in his retirement, and so you will hear everything around that and what led up to it. A lot to get through in this first part, but it includes nom de plumes and pseudonyms, setting the scene of his career changing injury, working hurt all the time, Rip Tide, making amends with the occasionally troubling past of wrestling, his teen years as a devout Christian, his years in the Progress dojo (aka ProJo), meeting Edward Dennis and Sebastian, his brushes with a very different wrestling name altogether, how he indeed got his name (the story may surprise you), “Sexually frivolous, morally ambiguous”, his LGBTQ connections and lifestyles and all that entails, effecting change through character, winning over crowds with comedy, the joy of battle raps, and the eventual move to super strong style. How much more than that? TONS. You’ll see. Welcome to the Voice of Retail for the week of May 3rd, 2019 I'm your host Michael LeBlanc and this podcast is brought to you in conjunction with Retail Council of Canada. In this episode part 2 of my conversation with serial innovator Peter Van Stolk, CEO of SPUD. We hone in on global online grocery trends, talk about his innovative Food X platform and how is serves local consumers and small retailers alike, talk about the price of avacados and even make a few predictions of the future of online grocery sales in Canada. Next a feature interview with Michele Sexsmith, SVP and Practice Leader, Retail, Real Estate and Entertainment Sectors from Environics Analytics talking about their work helping retailers understand Canadian consumer online shopping behaviours, how their Click-Spend product that is produced in partnership with J.C. Williams, can help retailers understand buying patterns right down to the local trading area, and a look for surprises in the data. https://www.environicsanalytics.com/en-ca/ Last but not least I'll cover off the top retail news of the week including the new york times celebrating Canadian retailer Indigo on their reinvention of book selling, tap into some data about beer sales in retail creating jobs, Nova cannabis opens in Toronto and Triple J's Canna Space is Yukon's 1st cannabis store - but entrepreneurs in Calgary are still struggling with a lease but no licence, Walmart opens an AI store and Amazon's trojan horse strategy But first, lets listen to the second part of my interview with Peter - we pick up the conversation talking about his FoodX platform - I ask him beyond the likes of Walmart using his platform, is it the case that local food retailers can also use the platform to address the concerns of his customers, who like to shop from their local grocers as well as SPUD but can feel a bit guilty not sharing their business with them as the smaller grocery players can't afford eCommerce as a part of their business model….until now… https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/01/us/politics/trump-border-closing-economy.html That's a wrap on this edition of The Voice of Retail, if you liked this podcast you can subscribe on iTunes or your favourite podcast platform.
