[5:29] Why did "crypto-skeptic" Paul Bettner end up making a gaming ecosystem using blockchain?[6:24] The crucial technology focus for its web2 game Wildcard is streaming, not blockchain.[6:59] But blockchain is crucial for the wider ecosystem for players, content creators and community.[9:02] The USP of Wildcard is its unique genre - deck building + action gameplay with strategy MOBA. [9:55] It's a CCAG - collectible card action game - the first of its kind.[10:08] "Web3 is an enabling technology for the new things we are trying to do."[11:45] A lot of the core team on Wildcard goes all the way back to Age of Empires.[14:09] Paradigm led the investment round because they played Wildcard and loved the game.[15:18] How the game design of Wildcard has changed over the years. [15:40] As a designer, you need to question everything and iterate quickly to make the best decision. How should it change the design?[33:51] We talked to Twitch and Discord but they couldn't build the streaming tech we required. [35:20] We started showing other studios our streaming tech and the response was overwheming.[37:26] Thousands allows us to give revenue share back to streamers who refer the spenders. [38:24] An authentic streamer gives us the highest quality users we can get.[40:17] Before Thousands, we didn't know how we were going to have web3 tech in Wildcard.[45:10] You have to make a game and ecosystem that satisfies gamers, earners and content creators.[49:20] How Wildcard is ensuring it allows its most skilled players to demonstrate that skill.[51:32] Wildcard is being tested on Fridays/Saturdays via Steam early access.[53:51] Thousands isn't about quantity, it's about your most dedicated 1,000 fans.[54:25] Our ARPV (average revenue per viewer) is already over $100, with a payer conversion of 83%.[55:26] We have streams that are regularly monetizing at over $20,000 per stream.

Lastly, we finish the interview with the Fatherhood Quick Five.  About Coach Jim Mora  Head Coach Jim Mora was named as the head football coach of the University of Connecticut on Nov. 11, 2021 and is the 32nd head coach in the program's history, which dates back to 1896. A 1983 graduate of the University of Washington, Mora took over for Mike Holmgren as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in 2009. He had served as assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for Seattle in the 2007 and 2008 campaigns.  The Seahawks went 10-6 and finished first in the NFC West in the 2007 season and won the Wild Card game in the playoffs. In his initial season as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2004, Mora directed the team to an 11-5 record, becoming just the eighth rookie head coach in NFL history to win 11 games and the 11th to bring home a division title. The Falcons captured the NFC South title and earned an appearance in the NFC Championship Game for only the second time in franchise history. A good weekend for Kevin's, as De Bruyne's winner sealed victory for Manchester City against Wolves, and Brentford's Schade got two in victory for Brentford against Manchester United. But it was largely another week where many popular assets underperformed again. Suj and James review all the weekend games which included a surprise loss for Arsenal against Bournemouth and the top 5 race intensified with 6 teams scrapping for four places; wjilst there's still a Conference League place for four other teams to potentially fight over. And Tottenham are in the news for Fantasy purposes today with confirmation that their fixture at Villa will be brought forward but remains in Gameweek 37, meaning there will be no more doubles. The Cincinnati Reds face the St. Louis Cardinals in a split doubleheader today, April 30, 2025, at Great American Ball Park, rescheduled due to yesterday's rainout. Game 1 starts at 12:40 p.m. ET, with Game 2 at 6:40 p.m. ET. The Reds, riding a five-game winning streak, aim to capitalize on their momentum against a struggling Cardinals squad (12-17), who are desperate to avoid one of their worst 30-game starts in the Wild Card era. Game 1 Preview: Brady Singer (4-0, 3.62 ERA) takes the mound for the Reds against Miles Mikolas (0-2, 5.70 ERA). Singer, acquired in the offseason, has been a reliable arm, though Great American's hitter-friendly confines could test him. Mikolas, coming off a strong shutout against Atlanta, will look to keep the ball out of the middle of the plate. The Reds' lineup, led by Elly De La Cruz's superstar spark, should see Matt McLain's return after hamstring soreness. However, injuries to Austin Hays, Jeimer Candelario, and Tyler Stephenson may force reliance on call-ups like Chase Petty and Tyler Callihan. The Cardinals' offense, inconsistent this season, needs production from Paul Goldschmidt to counter Cincinnati's speed and power. Game 2 Preview: The Reds have not announced their starter, with Nick Martinez (0-2, 5.91 ERA) or a bullpen game as possibilities. St. Louis counters with Steven Matz (2-0, 1.80 ERA), whose early-season form makes him a tough matchup. The Reds' offense, bolstered by Noel Marte's recent two-run homer, must stay disciplined against Matz's command. De La Cruz, a dynamic force, and a hopefully healthy McLain will be key. The Cardinals, meanwhile, lean on their pitching to cool Cincinnati's hot streak, but their shaky bullpen could be a liability late. Key Factors: The Reds' aggressive baserunning, led by De La Cruz, could exploit St. Louis' defensive lapses. Cincinnati's bullpen, with Emilio Pagán's experience, needs to hold leads. For the Cardinals, generating early offense and avoiding high-leverage relief situations are critical. Weather should cooperate, with clear skies forecast. With Terry Francona's strategic edge and Cincinnati's young talent clicking, the Reds are favored to split or sweep, but St. Louis's desperation could make this a tight battle.

Suj and James discuss the fallout from a weekend where many Free Hitters saw success with many assets from the popular teams did well, and for a change there were some defensive heroes in the likes of Jose Sa, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Kieran Trippier and Ryan Sessegnon all hauling. There's discussion on all the games as usual as Liverpool confirmed themselves as Champions following their demolition of Tottenham, and the relegation picture is also done after ten man Ipswich lost at Newcastle. The FA Cup Semi Finals are also reflected on with focus on what that now means for the prospect of doubles in Gameweek 36. The outlook now looks tough for those with the Assistant Manager Chip left and that includes, Suj, so what will he do? And James is on Wildcard with eyes on assets to include, but there is one difficult decision to make first off, because captaincy for GW35 looks wide open. Can the U.S. equity market break out of its expected range? Our CIO and Chief U.S. Equity Strategist Mike Wilson looks at whether the Trump administration's shifting tariff policy and Fed uncertainty will continue weighing down stocks.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley. ----- Transcript -----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Mike Wilson, Morgan Stanley's CIO and Chief U.S. Equity Strategist. Today, I will discuss what it will take for the US equity market to break out of the 5000-5500 range. It's Monday, April 21st at 11:30am in New York.So, let's get after it.Last week, we focused on our view that the S&P 500 was likely to remain in a 5000-5500 range in the near term given the constraints on both the upside and the downside. First, on the upside, we think it will be challenging for the index to break through prior support of 5500 given the recent acceleration lower in earnings revisions, uncertainty on how tariff negotiations will progress and the notion that the Fed appears to be on hold until it has more clarity on the inflationary and growth impacts of tariffs and other factors. At the same time, we also believe the equity market has been contemplating all of these challenges for much longer than the consensus acknowledges. Nowhere is this evidence clearer than in the ratio of Cyclical versus Defensive stocks as discussed on this podcast many times. In fact, the ratio peaked a year ago and is now down more than 40 per cent.Coming into the year, we had a more skeptical view on growth than the consensus for the first half due to expectations that appeared too rosy in the context of policy sequencing that was likely to be mostly growth negative to start. Things like immigration enforcement, DOGE, and tariffs. Based on our industry analysts' forecasts, we were also expecting AI Capex growth to decelerate, particularly in the first half of the year when growth rate comparisons are most challenging. Recall the Deep Seek announcement in January that further heightened investor concerns on this factor. And given the importance of AI Capex to the overall growth expectations of the economy, this dynamic remains a major consideration for investors. A key point of today's episode is that just as many were overly optimistic on growth coming into the year, they may be getting too pessimistic now, especially at the stock level. As the breakdown in cyclical stocks indicate, this correction is well advanced both in price and time, having started nearly a year ago. Now, with the S&P 500 closing last week very close to the middle of our range, the index appears to be struggling with the uncertainty of how this will all play out.Equities trade in the future as they try to discount what will be happening in six months, not today. Predicting the future path is very difficult in any environment and that is arguably more difficult today than usual, which explains the high volatility in equity prices. The good news is that stocks have discounted quite a bit of slowing at this point. It's worth remembering the factors that many were optimistic about four-to-give months ago—things like de-regulation, lower interest rates, AI productivity and a more efficient government—are still on the table as potential future positive catalysts. And markets have a way of discounting them before it's obvious.However, there is also a greater risk of a recession now, which is a different kind of slowdown that has not been fully priced at the index level, in our view. So as long as that risk remains elevated, we need to remain balanced with our short-term views even if we believe the odds of a positive outcome for growth and equities are more likely than consensus does over the intermediate term. Hence, we will continue to range trade.Further clouding the picture is the fact that companies face more uncertainty than they have since the early days of the pandemic. As a result, earnings revisions breadth is now at levels rarely witnessed and approaching downside extremes assuming we avoid a recession. Keep in mind that these revisions peaked almost a year ago, well before the S&P 500 topped, further supporting our view that this correction is much more advanced than acknowledged by the consensus. This is why we are now more interested in looking at stocks and sectors that may have already discounted a mild recession even if the broader index has not. Bottom line, if a recession is averted, markets likely made their lows two weeks ago. If not, the S&P 500 will likely take those lows out. There are other factors that could take us below 4800 in a bear case outcome, too. For example, the Fed decides to raise rates due to tariff-driven inflation; or the term premium blows out, taking 10-year Treasury yields above 5 per cent without any growth improvement.Nevertheless, we think recession probability is the wildcard now that markets are wrestling with. In S&P terms, we think 5000-5500 is the appropriate range until this risk is either confirmed or refuted by the hard data – with labor being the most important. In the meantime, stay up the quality curve with your equity portfolio.Thanks for listening.
