A Novel Adaptation is a podcast about books and what it takes to make a screen adaptation that not only stays true to the text but takes it to the next level. There are plenty of good tv or movie adaptations, but what makes one great?
Enjoy this magical realism story and cult classic film that we can't shut up about. They made some questionable changes from page to screen but honestly we like them both for very different reasons. We talk about which of the sisters we saw ourselves as in high school and reveal which of the Owens women we want to be now. Dig into these details with us. This story offers so much scope for the imagination! We truly feel we are kindred spirits with Anne (spelled with an E, obviously). And the wrap up of the show left us in the depths of despair. We'll just have to console ourselves with the absolute multitude of books in this series. Jordan shares her anger at why this ended and Emily reveals why she hates being compared to this main character sometimes. Episode Drink: Raspberry Cordial Ingredients: one four liter pail of freshly picked cleaned raspberries 4 cups boiling water 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup of honey Instructions: In a large non-metallic bowl, crush the raspberries with a potato masher or similar utensil. Pour 4 cups of boiling water over the crushed berries; stir in the lemon juice. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set aside in a cool, dark place for 24 hours. The next day, pour the crushed berries through a cheesecloth to sieve out the particles. This will take a while as you have to let the liquid slowly seep through the cloth. Place the liquid in a pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Add the honey and stir in.Add in the sugar to taste, but do not add more honey. Honey can override the raspberry taste in this recipe, but adding half a cup will give it a gorgeous depth of taste that plain sugar doesn't. Boil the liquid for another three minutes. Put in Jars. Tuck in a cool place. Will be good all winter Recipe From: TheKitchenMagpie.com Our Drinking Game for this Story Take a drink every time Anne is overly excited Take a drink every time you want to hug Matthew Take a drink every time Anne says “scope for the imagination” Take a drink every time Ms. Rachel Lynde gossips Take a drink every time Anne thinks about how much she hates Gilbert Blythe Take a drink every time Anne references a book Take a drink every time Anne screws up something Take a drink every time the show updates something to be more inclusive Spray some cheese spray in your mouth whenever you start to sob at the show Finish your drink to balance out the wholesomeness of the show. A theatrical adaptation of the novel was presented at Seattle's Book-It Repertory Theatre in 2007.[13][14] The novel has also been adapted for the theater in a version written by Caridad Svich, which was commissioned by Repertorio Espanol in New York City. That adaptation premiered in 2009 and received the HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting from the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors. Unlike the film and the previous adaptation, this version was written and performed in Spanish and has been staged in Latin American countries such as Chile and Costa Rica.[15] Svich also wrote an English language version of the play which won the 2011 American Theatre Critics Association Primus Prize for its production at Denver Center Theatre Company in 2010.[16] On May 23, 2018, it was announced that Hulu was developing a television series adaptation of the novel with production company FilmNation Entertainment. Allende is expected to serve as an executive producer on the project.[17] On October 19, 2021, it was announced that Eva Longoria would star in the project.[18]

Grab your Gran and let's go take out a coven! We return to the welcome arms of Roald Dahl but have some issues with the on-screen version. The creepy, dark streaks of Jim Hensen and Mr. Dahl produced a cult classic of a children's horror movie. Plus, we come up with as many children's horror movies and tv shows as we could come up with because it's definitely a genre that needs to be acknowledged. Jordan reveals her true feelings about campy movies and Emily divulges her weird love of them. It is so easy to hate some of the characters in this book, and we loved doing it. The story is lovely and a big thanks to our Patreon for choosing it for their Author Level Patreon benefit because this is also one of our favorite books of the season. This movie though, is something else. If you've ever wanted to see puffy sleeves and 80's synth inserted into farm chore scenes, then this movie definitely has you covered. We aren't sure exactly what to make of this story. Or this adaptation, for that matter. But we talk about the possibility of magic mushrooms influencing at least the movie adaptation, why Jordan loves the horror genre, and how cool it is to have an all-female cast in a sci-fi story. Jordan also blows Em's mind with the prism effect. Things get weird, y'all. While we don't recommend you do the Bird Box challenge in public, we do recommend that you read this book. We think it's delightfully creepy and full of complex tension between the characters. As for the movie… well, Sandra Bullock gives a great performance, as usual, but other than that you might as well keep your blindfold on for this one instead. We really take out the trash on this one.
