There are some truly terrifying Christmas/winter characters out there. Many may have heard of Krampus, a German partner of St. Nick who punishes poorly behaved children, but what about Peruchty, a winter witch who likes to disembowel naughty children? Santa, also, may fall into these terrifying categories, although in less severe ways. Lumps of coal in stocking, running naughty and nice list, even Jolly St. Nick has taken on the role of scaring children into behaving well with threats. This year, we gathered to talk about some of these characters and the way in which they have been shaped by and, in turn shape, imaginations in Christian understanding. It's not all scary, though, we also talk about a Christmas tradition from Catalonia where a log poops out Christmas treats, so there's something for everyone! We had a special guest for this recording, Amanda's puppy, Luna, who greatly enjoyed chewing on our chairs throughout the episode, providing much joy and additional noise while we chatted. My guest Kelly Gregory of Arena Counseling joined to have this conversation about what leads to suicidal thoughts and actions, the impact of these acts on loved ones and more. And we discuss my own issues with the darkness that led to my own attempts on my life. This episode goes deep and might be triggering for some but it's important information we can all use. What the New Disney World Ticket Pricing Will Mean for YouBeginning December 8, Walt Disney World will introduce park-specific pricing on 1-day, 1-park tickets. This means you will now have to select a date and theme park before buying your park ticket. When you buy a 1-Day ticket for a specific date and theme park, a theme park reservation will automatically be made for you at the time of purchase. For Disney travelers who buy multi-day Walt Disney World tickets, nothing will change and you will continue to make theme park reservations.With the new park-specific pricing, Magic Kingdom Park will be priced at the highest level as it still the crown jewel and the most-visited theme park in the world. One-day Disney World ticket prices will be as follows: Disney's Animal Kingdom: $109-$159 (same range as today) Disney's Hollywood Studios: $124-$179 EPCOT: $114-$179 Magic Kingdom Park: $124-$189 (Note: The $189 price for the week of Christmas to New Year's.) Park Hopper Add-on On December 8 there will also be new pricing for Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus add-ons. Annual Passes On December 8, Annual Pass pricing for the Incredi-, Sorcerer and Pirate Annual Passes will increase between $43-100. The Disney Pixie Dust Pass will remain at its current price. Disneyland Adventureland Treehouse will Return with a New Look in 2023There are more details about the future of the treehouse in Adventureland at Disneyland park.When it reopens in 2023 the Adventureland Treehouse will be themed after Walt Disney's Swiss Family Robinson tree house--just as it is in Walt Disney World. This is likely because Disney is working on a remake of the 1960 movie as a new Swiss Family series on Disney+.The renewed treehouse will have new environments created among the branches of the giant tree on the shores of the Jungle River. From the mother's music den to the young sons' nature room to the teenage daughter's astronomer's loft, everything is created from found objects, natural resources, and pure ingenuity (just like the Disney fairies do). More news to come as it's released--Walt Disney World Pool Closure The Oak Manor leisure pool in Magnolia Bend at Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside was recently closed for a brief refurbishment.Ol' Man Island and other leisure pools around the resort will remain open and available. This is Part II of an extensive audio essay on the history and mechanics of the Margarita cocktail. In Part I, we examined the origins of sour taste perception and tracked a number of the Margarita's precursors, including grog, the Crusta, and the Daisy. In this installment, we explore sugar, the Margarita's chief technology, and trace it through a number of formula changes to understand how this cocktail hacks our innate biology and psychology. To get to the heart of how the Margarita works, we need to start asking questions like: Where does a traditional “sour” stop and a margarita begin? Is the salted rim optional, essential, or something else entirely? And Should we think of this as a cocktail to be served “up,” “on the rocks,” or does it not really matter? All of this might seem to boil down to a simple question of definitions, but in fact, if you follow the evolution of the Margarita and its ingredients and proportions over time, you begin to realize that the look and feel of a Margarita is a wonderful core sample of the culture and values of any given time and place.

We got the chance to talk with Zachary Robinson Co Founder at Short Path Distillery in Everett, Ma. We got to talk about how this former chemist became a distiller (well chemist still in a sense) and how that career path molded out of a love for Scotch.
