This week on Wasted Truth, Nik and Jill welcome the absolute legend that is Courtney from Fernet-Branca—a woman who knows more about booze and brand life than your average barfly knows about bad decisions. We dive into her wild ride through the alcohol industry, hopping state to state slinging beer and spirits before landing in Nashville during peak pandemic chaos. She's been repping Fernet for two years now (aka keeping the service industry's collective liver slightly terrified), and we get into her day-to-day adventures, the fun parties she throws, and why Fernet is basically bartender holy water. Come for the industry gossip, stay for the digestive talk and degenerate stories. Cheers, ya filthy animals.Let's spill some W-Tea! CALL US, YOUR VOICEMAIL MIGHT JUST MAKE IT ON THE POD!

(4:00) Vinnie mentions a recent Instagram post where he talks about what three foods to avoid, and the response he received in the comments. What is a glycogen load? Vinnie gives an example. (11:00) Anna mentions the importance of going into your older years in optimal health and references Peter Attia's book “”. (16:30) Two important points about exercise are (19:00): You can't outrun a bad diet. Exercise is the fountain of youth. ADULT DRINKS 101 Vinnie and Anna are sharing ideas for NSNG®-compliant adult beverages. Vinnie emphasizes that alcohol is a poison and mentions a Huberman Lab episode (August 2022) that discusses the science of what alcohol does to your brain and your body. (23:00) Distilled liquor is NSNG®, and Vinnie explains why. (24:00) Anna provides ideas that you can do. (27:00) This leads to chatting about bitters and “abominations” like some Italian liqueurs, like Fernet-Branca, Fenocchio, Campari, and Aperol. They are not fond of Prosecco and champagnes either, apparently. Anna mentions how in social situations the odd pressure for everyone to like the same things, and they talk about very visceral reactions to certain behaviors. (37:00) Anna explains the BS behind marketing behind “dry wines”. (39:00) They also chat about grain alcohols and how awful they are for you. When it can be used as fuel for a go-cart, it's best to steer clear. Anna also has a delicious drink recipe on her . (43:45) They both share ideas on infusing real flavors into liquors. Be careful: when on NSNG your body processes alcohol very quickly and it can affect you much harder. (51:00) Vinnie and Anna recommend sticking to one drink. Also, remember alcohol is a poison and a sugar and your body will want to process that first; if you drink regularly and aren't really losing weight, the problem could be alcohol. Your body will always process the alcohol first and it will never get to burning your fat. Be aware of how much you may be drinking–remember, you are NSNG to become healthy. (54:00) They also discuss the risk and the varying ways that people use alcohol as a crutch. Self-awareness is necessary, and you have permission to NOT drink alcohol as well! This month, hosts Christina Cauterucci, Jules Gill-Peterson, and Bryan Lowder reflect on the painful impact of anti-LGBTQ violence and dig into the new possibilities for trans storytelling and filmmaking. First, they talk through their complicated feelings about one of the responses to the shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs last month: Should queer people be organizing in self-defense, or even arming ourselves for protection? Then they are joined by actress Jen Richards who portrays Barbara in Framing Agnes, a new documentary, directed by Chase Joynt, which is centered on six trans people who were interviewed and treated at a UCLA gender clinic in the 1950s. The film combines reenactments of those interviews with contemporary conversations with trans actors reflecting on how the lives of the people they portray resonate with their own lives. Our own Jules Gill-Peterson has a central role in the movie as a historian and narrator.
