    Randi Johnson is a former law firm owner, mother of two daughters, business strategist, and end of life and bereavement doula. Before meeting Randi, I had never known you could seek support from an advocate at the end of your life in the same way you do while giving birth. Birth doulas are more commonly known, but there are professionals who train to serve people who are dying. Randi Johnson took an unconventional path away from the practice of law and law firm ownership to follow her passion to do this work.     Imagine you're on maternity leave, bathing your newborn baby in the sink, and you get a multiple calls from your boss. He needs to be briefed on an issue before a meeting the next day. He then gets mad and berates you for not picking up those calls, all while you're on unpaid maternity leave. That's just what happened to Melissa Caballero Alton during maternity leave with her first son. She decided enough was enough. She left her firm and started her own when her first son was only 2.5 months old. She doesn't believe lawyer moms should have to choose their work over their families. Burned-out, over-worked, stressed-out employees are not good for anyone. She has built a life and a schedule to intentionally put her family first. This is how she finds joy and balance. The way she's been able to do this is by owning her own law firm and choosing her practice areas thoughtfully. Melissa won't choose a case or a client over her family.     Several years into her law practice, Aman Costigan came to the realization that she didn't want lose all the parts of her identity as a person in order to be a good lawyer. In fact, when she followed the teachings of her yoga practice, she found freedom to start showing up authentically. Part of showing up authentically was sharing her love of yoga with other lawyers. As a partner at a law firm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Aman practices as independent counsel for tribunals deciding professional disciplinary actions. Her job can certainly be stressful. Aman shares how yoga, mindfulness techniques, and really learning about how energy flows through the body has helped her to manage her stress and thrive.     Kristen Gibbons Feden fights for survivors of sexual assault and abuse in their pursuit of civil justice as an attorney at Saltz, Mongeluzzi & Bendesky in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has spent her career passionately fighting for justice, both as a civil trial lawyer, and as a prosecutor. She is well known as the prosecutor who stared down Bill Cosby, when she tapped into her passion while delivering the closing argument that helped to obtain the conviction in that case. While seemingly at the top of her game career-wise, Kristen's long hours took a toll on her and on her kids. In this episode, she acknowledges that being a mom and a trial lawyer is not easy.
