Hello, hi! Today's episode is one of my favourites, part of my “Five things” series for all of our episodes that end with the number 5. This episode is going to give us a way to focus on mindfulness during a chaotic season of family life: the month of September. The goal of the episode is to help you gain a sense of presence that you can continue to return to through the upheaval of a busy season of transitions.   Episode Summary Check in: I'll share what's going on these last few weeks and why I probably need today's episode as much as anyone else. TLDR; parenting in September is A LOT y'all. The Five thing you can do right now to survive September, are all about remembering a lot of the things i've already been able to get good at over the last 5 years: Mindfulness, Presence, Setting Priorities and OinBoundaries, Self-compassion, Rest. One of the first things we can do around our survival of September is to set boundaries on our self-talk and how we manage meeting our own internal expectations: How can you talk to yourself in ways that represent a kinder and gentler perspective on your own expectations?  Use the acronym GRASS to remind yourself of this mindfulness practice:G: Ground into the present moment R: Remind yourself of what's in your control (and what isn't) A: Acknowledge what's working S: Say thank you S: Sleep and Rest Why is Mindfulness the perfect antidote to September? Because often time transitions bring up a host of limiting beliefs that usually make us feel overwhelmed, worried, anxious and frustrated. What mindfulness does is it bring more emotions to the table to keep those emotions company, which allow us to experience more emotional balance. You don't have to do all of the letters in order BUT if you want to achieve Sleep/Rest, you will probably find a smoother path to good quality sleep if you do actually practice the grounding and mindfulness exercises first.   Other Episodes you might like: Episode 113: Playing the Long Game in your Freedom from Domestic Struggles with author and coach Tami Hackbarth Episode 107: From Anxiety to Action - How to reclaim your mental headspace with guest and coach Madeline Farquharson Episode 108: From Self-Neglect to Self-Care - Prioritizing your Needs with guest and coach Madeline Farquarson Connect with Erin: Instagram: @medium.lady Email: mediumladytalks@gmail.com  Explore more book-related content on "Medium Lady Reads." - link to Spotify Instagram: @mediumladyreads

Episode 133: Why You Need a Decision-Making Framework

Just One Simple Thing

Play Episode Play 25 sec Highlight Listen Later Aug 5, 2024 8:23

The number one issue I hear from writers and other Christian communicators is they have too many ideas and never know for sure if they are working on the right things. If that sounds like you, listen in to Episode 133 of Just One Simple Thing as you'll learn how a decision-making framework can help.Hello, friends!  If you are listening in real time in late summer, 2024, you might know that I have been on my regular summer break.  I'm glad to be back. I didn't do anything super exciting over the summer … busy at my full-time job and hanging out with my family and friends.   Many of you went to one of the amazing writers' conferences that happen over months when school is out. Whether it was your first time, or you are a conference veteran, the days and weeks afterwards can be hard.  You are pumped up and excited about all the possibilities. But you are also overwhelmed by…. all the possibilities. Even if you didn't go to a conference, I bet you still have a tornado of ideas swirling around in your head.Over the years, I've developed some strategies to sort through all the ideas and decide what is for now, what is next, and what is not yet.It all starts with a decision-making framework.  What is a decision-making framework?  It's a set of criteria and a systematic way of evaluating options, filtering the million ideas floating around in your head. Let's look at some of reasons why you need a framework. To make decisions at all. A decision-making framework can overcome that overwhelm … it helps you step back and gives you a basis for making sound plans.  To make better decisions. When we are making decisions from a place of overwhelm and stress, we usually make bad decisions. The framework takes away some of that bias and emotion because it is an objective evaluation based on specific criteria. To stop second guessing. When you've made an objective decision or prioritized your ideas based on a repeatable framework, you'll be able to move forward with confidence, and close the door on that second guessing. You invested a lot to go to that conference, and you don't want that investment to go to waste.  In his second epistle, John gives us a warning: “Be careful that you don't destroy what we've worked for, but that you receive your full reward.”  Don't let decision paralysis destroy all of the great ideas the Lord has given you.Action StepGather up some ideas that you have been considering - maybe it is a long list of things you learned at a conference, or that never-ending stream of brilliant ideas that overwhelm you. Then join me back here for the next episode when I'll teach you how to create your own decision-making framework.  If you went to a conference, be sure to send this episode to the friends you made there.  If you are overwhelmed, I bet they are too.  RESOURCESNow, Next, Not Yet:  A Framework for Setting Priorities that Stick – Join me for this free workshop where I'll share my own framework and how I use it.  Join our community in the free Facebook Group Plan & Play with Do A New Thing for support, encouragement, and follow up on your action steps.Did last month get away from you with little progress on your plans? If only someone could make sure you are working on the right things at the right time. He refutes the common misconception that workplace culture is a vague and ambiguous concept and points out that a workplace culture's foundation is employees' behaviours and actions, with no gap between the company values and the actions that follow. Stone's book, Jumpstart Your Workplace Culture, provides a step-by-step guide for organizations to create a culture that fosters high performance and productivity by implementing effective communication strategies while creating a sense of purpose and belonging among employees, and setting up a system of recognition and rewards to incentivize great work. Employee engagement in customer interactions, though members' actions and behaviours shape a workplace's culture, and successful organizations demonstrate a seamless alignment between their stated values and actual behaviours. Building employee engagement is predicated on clear communication of expectations and objectives, comprehensive training and coaching, and regular recognition of effort and achievement. Engaged employees drive positive outcomes such as improved customer service, higher retention rates, increased profitability, and business expansion. All leaders must possess effective communication skills, including the ability to amplify, buffer, and convey messages. Measuring workplace culture can be achieved through various methods such as pulse surveys, engagement surveys, and a six-point inspection that encompasses employee engagement, customer experience, understanding of company values, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. A strong focus on inclusivity is pivotal to building a diverse and thriving workforce.  To build a high-performance culture, Eric shared that it is essential to start with employee engagement and utilize visual methods, such as the hourglass approach, to gather information, set priorities, and reinforce consistent behaviours. The organization can create a roadmap for success while recognizing and rewarding the individuals who inspire and lead others. It's essential to develop culture carriers who become the region's voice and spread the message to scale the culture organization-wide. These individuals can help reinforce the company culture's values, beliefs, and behaviours. These culture carriers don't necessarily have to be in leadership positions, but they need to earn the respect of others by embodying the organization's values and always doing the right thing.  Eric's closes with encouraging listeners to check out his book and upcoming workbook and audiobook.   Eric's Contact Information: Website: https://www.ericdstone.com/ Instagram: @clearpathventures_ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-stone-clear-path/   Tacey's Contact Information: https://linktr.ee/taceyatkinson Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to having more valuable conversations together in the future. With 2024 rushing toward us at breakneck speed, it's time to start deciding what we're going to prioritize in our businesses to finish out the end of the year. As managers and business owners, we have a very unique skill: we can see dire importance in EVERY task we set in front of our teams, no matter how small. But this skill can also cause a bit of a problem: because we see everything as important, we can struggle to narrow down our list of tasks to what we ACTUALLY need to prioritize. The definition of "priority" is "the most important thing." Just ONE important thing—not a long list! When we can prioritize properly, it can help our team rally around our goals and end the year with team morale at an all-time high. But choosing too many priorities isn't the only pitfall we need to avoid. Let's go over them together! Sonia C. and Sonia T. are having a brief movement of reflection as they enter into the New Year. Sonia T. wants to do a couple of things differently this New Year and that's to lean more into her routine. Sonia C. gets it. As we grow as people, we become more aware of our own blindspots and what we need to spend extra time on to keep ourselves grounded.    This week's theme is about: 2022 Reflections and the year ahead.    Highlights: Do you ever feel conflict? Sobia C. feels it all the time. [2:20] 2023 i the year of awareness for Sonia C. [2:50]  Sonia T. has not achieved any single goals she set for herself in 2022. [3:30]  Instead of goals, Sonia C. is focused on priorities. [4:20] Surprisingly, Sonia C. has not made it a priority to make new friends in the last 8+ years. This year she is changing that. [6:20] Question for the listener: How do you distinguish a should vs. your intuition and your heart? [6:30]  Intuitives tend to be the problem solvers/the garbage can absorbing all the trash in relationships. [10:50] Sonia C. and Sonia T. reflect on a terrible live play they recently watched. [16:00] How do you get started in manifesting your dreams and desires? [21:25] Emapths try so hard to make everyone around them so happy. [25:40]  Tool of the week. [27:20] Question of the week. [30:10]   Sonia C. isn't as interesting as creating new goals or resolutions this year. However, she does want to lean heavily into having more awareness for herself and her surroundings. Sonia T. loves that her mom is not intensely focused on goals. As Sonia T. was looking back at her journals with her long list of aspiring goals, she realized that she had way too many. She had 47 goals!    Sonia C. does love goals though! She might have to sit and reflect a little bit more on this; Whether she's going to go with the flow this year or have some sort of gilding, although light, direction. Because she has such a go-go attitude and vibe, maybe having one goal per quarter will help keep things calm, collected, and grounded.    Tool of the Week: Try less hard to make others around you so happy or to make things ‘nice'.    Question of the Week: What do you do to get back into your good vibes when you're feeling blah?    Continue on Your Journey: More Sonia Choquette at www.soniachoquette.com More Sonia Tully at www.soniatully.com Connect with Sabrina at www.sabrinatully.com Join Sonia Choquette's Vibe Tribe Follow Sonia Choquette on Instagram Follow Sonia Tully on Instagram Buy Sonia and Sabrina's Book You Are Amazing Ask your intuitive questions at: itsallrelatedpodcastquestions@gmail.com Masterclass: You're Glorious Life by Sonia Tully Heart-Centered Intuition Workshop with Infinity Foundation
