The world today is like a ship with no anchor—adrift, lost, and tossed around by every new idea that comes along. We've abandoned truth, rewritten reality, and now we're paying the price. Anxiety, confusion, and chaos are everywhere because we've got nothing solid to hold onto. That's why Bobby Angel is here. His book, The Postmodern Predicament, tackles the big question: How did we get so lost, and how do we find our way back? We talk about why the world feels so unstable, how throwing out faith and reason led to this mess, and why beauty, truth, and tradition are the way forward.Bobby shares his own story—firefighter, seminarian, husband, father—and how wrestling with God's plan led him exactly where he was meant to be. We break down the lies of postmodernism, the crisis of identity in today's culture, and how to stand firm in a world that keeps shifting. If you're tired of drifting and ready to drop anchor in something real, this episode is for you. Is the Marxism infiltrating the Church? Our daily lives? Bobby Angel, a Catholic author, speaker, and co-host of The Jackie and Bobby Show, warn about the possible infiltration into modern ideologies, particularly in gender theory and radical feminism, and highlights the importance of faith, sacred art, and traditional values in countering these influences. He shares his journey of faith, from being a cradle Catholic who drifted in his teenage years to experiencing a powerful reawakening through Eucharistic adoration and a Steubenville youth conference.Bobby discusses his background in philosophy and theology, highlighting how his time in seminary and teaching at an all-boys Catholic high school shaped his understanding of the faith. His new book, The Postmodern Predicament, explores the cultural decline caused by postmodernism and Marxist influences, offering a Catholic perspective on reclaiming truth and order in society. The conversation covers topics like the dangers of moral relativism, the loss of classical education, and the impact of pornography and utilitarianism on human dignity. AMDG. University of Dallas president Dr. Jonathan Sanford joins Bonnie, Steven, and Chief Academic Officer Megan Lengyel in this episode to discuss how students flourish at UD, particularly when they have a Kolbe foundation. Dr. Sanford describes how the school is a thoroughly Catholic university with a bigger set of offerings than most and how multiple charisms present on campus help preserve and further UD's Catholic identity. He also shares insights on scholarships and standardized test strategies; distinguishes the humanities from the broader liberal arts; and highlights preparation for med school, law school, and market-relevant business opportunities. AMDG. The call to be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect can be intimidating, but God doesn't ask us to live in a pressure cooker. Today Bobby Angel—writer, speaker, youth minister, and homeschooling dad—joins Bonnie, Steven, and Kolbe's communications and marketing director, Josh Beckman, to talk about answering the call to holiness in everyday life. Bobby describes how to live differently from the culture in a way that doesn't turn people off; how to bring gifts, quirks, and personality to the table as part of God's plan for life in abundance; and the all-important part of life of just being human together. The group also reflects on parents' call to holiness in their families, including rupture and repair as well as emotional attunement. We all emulate other people. One of the most influential ways we learn behaviors, language, ways of thinking, etc. is by witnessing and copying the actions of others. Knowing that this makes a huge impact on our development and character, we need to be intentional about choosing who we look up to and who we imitate. Bobby and Nathan discuss their own journeys of finding role models, both good and bad, and how that impacted them becoming the men they are today. They talk about ways to find good heroes, how we can be better role models for others, and the importance of recognizing the goodness in others. Take time to think today: who is your hero? How are Christians called to respond to the polarization of our nation? How should we respond to the rioting and looting of stores? How do we navigate the difficult conversations around these things and racism that must be had? In part three of three, Bobby Angel and Nathan Crankfield walk through all of these things. Their conversation is based on the third letter that Nathan wrote on faith and racism from his perspective as a Catholic biracial Army veteran. You can read the letter on the blog at thosewhoseek.org and find this series on YouTube as well! Follow us on social media @seeking365 Do you enjoy this podcast? This is the second episode of a three part series. Bobby Angel and Nathan Crankfield discuss Nathan's second letter on faith, racism, and the current societal strife in America. To read the letters and to learn more about Seeking Excellence, visit thosewhoseek.org and follow us on social media @seeking365.
Back in June, Nathan began a three part series of written series on the current tension in America that came in response to racism being brought to our nation's attention once again. He writes from his perspective as a Catholic, biracial, Army veteran. The first letter is addressed to his white friends and family, the second to his black friends and family, and the third to Christians. He and Bobby Angel decided to do a video series in which they discussed each letter one by one. This is part one of that series! Fr. Mike says the key to making decisions together is distinguishing between preferences and principles. If the reason you’re favoring a choice is a matter of principle, it is your duty to lead the other person in that decision to the truth of that principle. If the choice you’re favoring is just a matter of preference though, charity suggests that you default to the preference of the beloved one involved in the decision instead. Fr. Mike uses going to church as an example. It is a matter of principle that we have to go to Sunday Mass and worship God the way he tells us to, so if someone tells us going to a Catholic Mass is just our preference we can tell them as a matter of fact it’s not. However, if the issue is which church we go to for Sunday Mass, say St. Francis’ Church or St. Andrew’s, more often than not that is just a matter of preference. "If God alone isn't enough, then nothing will be ever." I don't know about you, but my 20's were HARD- and a lot of that was because of conflicting advice. I was told you don't need to take responsibility or start a family until you're 30. Others said focus on your career. I got FOMO watching my friends in their early 20's who were already married with kids and thought, "what's wrong with me? Have I missed the boat?" Insecurity, confusion, and a general feeling of starring in Hot Mess: The Musical! was my story many days. For this episode I reached a personal goal in scoring an interview with Jackie and Bobby Angel (still doing a happy dance over here.) You may know Jackie by her maiden name Francois, a pioneer in the world of Catholic speakers. The Angels are real, raw and honest and they cut through noise with clear advice that will help any confused 20-somethings (and also teens!) move through each day with eyes on what matters and the courage to let go of the rest. The 20's are indeed not a "disposable decade" and when you focus on the right things there is no reason to fear that you'll miss something important. Fr. Mike offers the antidote of common sense for the anxiety that often comes after making a big decision. As a campus minister, he sees many students who feel like they made the wrong decision to come to college because things are not the way they imagined. To people in these situations, he advises them to stay the course. Paraphrasing St. Ignatius of Loyola and C.S. Lewis, he says to never change your course in times of desolation when that same course rang true for you in times of consolation. Give yourself a season, time to figure things out. If you’re about to make a big decision and don’t know which course to take, or know someone who is in that situation, check out the new book by Jackie and Bobby Angel, with Fr. I never thought I would be writing into a podcast, but yet here I am! You have brought so much light to my life and have helped me apply my Catholic faith to my daily life. Ok, here's my question. I'm probably the most single person you could ever meet. I'm 26 years old and have never been asked on a date. My friends and family tell me that I would be such a catch and yet I cannot seem to get the attention of any man (Catholic or not)! [I'm not flirty by any means, yet I'm not shy … I guess just normal?] I feel called to marriage and it is so hard to trust in God's timing. I'm open to religious life if that is His will, but even after spending time with several orders, I still feel a call to family life. I know you don't know me personally, but do you have any advice on how to live a fulfilling life as a single woman (possibly for my whole life at the rate I'm going lol) who still feels called to marriage? I'm so lost! Thank you so much for any advice you may have. It’s tricky figuring out how to live in a potentially interim period yet also potentially permanent lifestyle. God bless you! -Cristina Desire Marriage but Not Ready for Kids (22:45) Hi Fr. Josh, I really enjoy your podcast and wanted to ask a question of my own. I am a 21 year old college student and have been dating my boyfriend for over a year. We both want to go to graduate school. If we continue dating in the future, is it ok to get married shortly after we’re both done with grad school? When talking with some Catholic friends, they said you should only get married if you are ready to have children starting 9 months after your wedding date. Is it wrong to get married wanting to postpone having children a year or two? Financial reasons aside, I think having a strong foundation of marriage built over a year or so would be helpful before children come into the mix. I wanted to hear your thoughts. I love the Church and her teaching and want to know how I can best follow her guidance with my future vocation. Know of my prayers for you and all our priests. -Julie Dating a Non-Catholic (32:00) Hey Father Josh. First off I wanted to say that your podcast is beyond incredible. I get something out of every podcast. Keep it up. My question is how do you go about dating someone who is not Catholic? I think he could be the one, but my Catholic faith is so important to me and I want him to be Catholic. He’s Christian, so that’s good but it’s not the same as being Catholic. I also want to help him get to heaven, but he’s pro-choice. He claims he is personally pro-life but doesn’t want to make that decision for the woman. SOS what do I do? Thank you for any advice. I will be praying for you Fr. Josh! -Maggie and Lauren Resources * Pray, Decide, and Don’t Worry (https://ascensionpress.com/products/pray-decide-and-don-t-worry-five-steps-to-discerning-god-s-will?utm_source=podcast&utm_medium=media&utm_campaign=discernment&utm_content=afjangels) by Jackie and Bobby Angel * Broken and Blessed: An Invitation to My Generation (https://shop.ascensionpress.com/products/broken-and-blessed-an-invitation-to-my-generation?utm_source=website&utm_medium=media&utm_campaign=brokenandblessed&utm_content=afj) by Fr.
