Al Richards is a true inspiration to those who have faced addiction and are seeking a way to overcome it. After battling a weekend alcohol and cocaine addiction for eight years, Al lost his job of 24 years as a result. But instead of giving up, he turned his life around and spent the next 14 years working tirelessly on himself and helping others understand addiction. In March of 2021, he started The Other Side of Addiction Podcast, which has quickly become a space for open and honest dialogue about addiction and recovery. And just this past February, Al started the ARC/Addiction Resource Collective Networking group, in an effort to connect people with the resources and support they need to overcome addiction. Al believes that it's time to lift each other up, and he is leading the way with his powerful message of hope and healing. Greatness has a hard time happening in your comfort zone. To get that you have to stretch and expand beyond what you normally do. This year is the year that I make a concerted effort to get uncomfortable in order to reach for the things that I want in life. I started naming my years now and it has had an impact on how I show up through out my year. What will you name your year? #boyswillbeboys features Jean-Carlo, A trucker who shared his food with other stranded people caught in a snow storm on the freeway. If you could be guaranteed to get 10% of what you asked for if you were to write them down, how many things would you write down? Steve Harvey opened my eyes to the 300 list in 2019. I've been making a written list every year since then and it's definitely working out great for me. I also discuss vision boards and Bullet Journaling to have a more productive year. So many people think that they need to be independent in this world and they fail to realize that they would never have survived infancy without the aid of someone else in their life. We are all dependent on someone else at any given point in this life and we should be doing more to cultivate connectivity. I discuss the book We: Ditch the Me Mindset and Change the World by Eric George and cover the 6 outcomes he writes about from creating connectivity. #boyswillbeboys features Jim Finch who showed up in Kentucky with a truck full of food and a BBQ grill to feed the people devastated by the latest tornado. As we get near the end of another year, it's a good idea to start to look forward to next year's goals. But first we need to take an honest look at where you are now. How can you know where you're going if you don't know where you currently are? I've talked a lot about finding your passion and purpose in life, but now I'm going to reveal to you how to really find out what that is and how it can drive you into your future. You need to connect to your purpose and take committed action or else you're not really going to go anywhere. #boyswillbeboys features Mr. Beast from YouTube. Want a sure fire way to create resentment in your relationship? Just start acting like their parent instead of their partner. In this week's episode, I cover many of the examples of what you or your partner may be doing that would be considered parental and what it is that you can do to fix that before it's too late. Once resentment gets to a certain point, it is almost impossible to recover the relationship. Better to identify these things early on and get it corrected while you can. Or better yet, recognize them yourself and choose to not get into this type of relationship. Send emails to orionwaymailbag@gmail.com Check out www.theorionway.com for more details
Nebraska Congressman Madison Cawthorn recently called on mothers to raise their sons to be monsters. It was a very toxic masculine thing to say and I whole-heartedly disagree. There are many reasons why men are not owning their masculinity. I will cover just a few of them in this week's episode. #boyswillbeboys features Michael J. Fox who just raised $1 Billion dollars to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news/4433/-039-I-Won-039-t-Stop-Until-It-Happens-039-Michael-J-Fox-Raises-1-Billion-To-Find-Cure-For-Parkinson-039-s
My uncle Franklin has been a Marine, a Clothier for over 15 years and now a photographer and actor and general overall handyman. He is almost always the sharpest dressed man in the room and I thought it would be great to have him on to discuss men's fashion and how sometimes the clothes do make the man. We also got into many other topics, it was a fun sit-down, hope you enjoy it. Also The Orion Way of Life is going to be changing to Men's Headspace, so keep an eye out for the new name of the podcast. #boyswillbeboys features Dawson Swanson and Scott Murdoch, two Wildlife officers that helped remove a tire from an elk's neck after 2 years. https://www.livescience.com/elk-with-tire-around-neck-freed email orionwaymailbag@gmail.com
I am an extroverted introvert. You'd be surprised at how many actors would actually consider themselves introverts. This should not prevent you from having amazing moments in life though. In this episode, I talk about events that happen in our life that lead to new paths that we never would have been on had we not put ourselves in certain circumstances. Some are good things that happen to us, and some are bad. Either way, if you look at the situation with the right frame of mind, you could end up in a much better situation than you thought originally possible. #boyswillbeboys features Wesley Gray from Gadsden, Al. He went from building a near $100 Million company in 30 months, to losing it all and going to Federal Prison for 8 years for wire fraud and mail fraud. He came out of it on the other side with a degree in Theology and created a whole ethics course that is being taught in Universities today. I have a great guest coming on next week, but for now, I have some things I want to get off of my chest. Big concerns that I have in this world that I think it's our responsibility to be not only aware of, but begin to do something about. If we don't stand up for ourselves and begin to come together, more and more of our freedom will be taken away from us, it's already starting to happen. Here is a link to that Heineken commercial I talked about in this weeks episode: https://youtu.be/etIqln7vT4w #boyswillbeboys features Fionn Ferreira, a youth that has figured out how to remove microplastics from the ocean and is actually doing something about it. https://www.fionnferreira.com/about Send emails to orionwaymailbag@gmail.com Website www.theorionway.com
Dawni Angel joins me again to talk about how to communicate authentically. What does that mean? Well, first off it requires you to have an open mind while listening so that you can truly hear what it is the other person is trying to say. We take a deep dive into being aware of how you communicate and what intention you're setting when you communicate with someone that you are giving your attention to. #boyswillbeboys features Lawrence Brooks who just turned 112 years old and is the oldest living veteran of WWII. https://apnews.com/article/oldest-world-war-ii-veteran-lawrence-brooks-c52e4957963103a906ffcae5519d70b3 email orionwaymailbag@gmail.com or go to www.theorionway.com for more details and events.
Did you realize that making a decision is a masculine trait? When you allow your woman to make a decision, like where to go out to eat, you are giving up your masculinity. If you find that you're spinning your wheels, or are over-analyzing/overthinking, it's because you can't make up your mind. Have you ever heard, “Hamlet was wrong?” He was the most notorious person in literature for overthinking and he died young as a result. Don't let that be you. #boyswillbeboys features Peter Mutabazi who has been taking on foster kids during the pandemic. https://www.today.com/parents/foster-dad-opens-his-home-kids-during-pandemic-t229001 www.theorionway.com email orionwaymailbag@gmail.com
Is it just me, or does it feel like we're being divided up into smaller and smaller groups nowadays? I discuss things that cause divisiveness among us as a society and ask the question - What is it all for? Who wants us to be a divided people, for what cause? It can't be a good one. We need to find some way to stop fighting amongst ourselves and start to pay attention to what is going on in our country and find out who this is actually benefiting. If you're like me and not one of the richest people or one of the lawmakers, then you'll want to listen up and ask yourself some good questions around this problem as well. #boyswillbeboys features Rudolph “Blaze” Ingram who is the fastest kid in the world. https://www.indiansingulf.in/kiddies-korner/2020/10/24/meet-rudolph-ingram-the-fastest-kid-in-my-the-world Send email to orionwaymailbag@gmail.com Visit www.theorionway.com
Fellow Men's Headspace member and Actor friend Aaron J. Owen joins me in this episode to talk about making the conscious choice to have SINGLE as a relationship status. He isn't part of the MGTOW movement, not a RED PILL guy, he just made a choice after realizing that he has other things that are more important than having a relationship to get after right now, and he is generating his own success and happiness as a result of it. Listen to his story to see if this is a conclusion that you can come to yourself if you are having trouble in your dating life. #boyswillbeboys features Donnie Wiseman who jumped into an alligator tank to save a woman it tried to drag into the water. https://www.thedailybeast.com/bystander-leaps-into-tank-to-wrestle-alligator-during-attack-on-utah-zoo-worker Send emails to orionwaymailbag@gmail.com Visit www.theorionway.com
I stumbled upon a YouTube video that was titled, MGTOW - Why Men Stopped Dating. I've been asking for your cautionary tales for awhile and this one video was chalk full of them. To be clear I want to find a way to bridge the divide that currently exists between men and women. I'm hoping that pointing out what is wrong with these situations helps do that, not make it worse. What exactly can you do to get that woman to go out with you? How can you tell when it's time to make a move and get that kiss? So often guys are like deer in the headlights and completely miss their opportunity. Then they sit and wonder why they didn't get a second date, or why she didn't seem interested. In this episode, I reveal the answer and explain what you need to do in order to escalate and give you the best chance for propelling your dating life further. This isn't Pick-Up Artist BS, this is the real honest way to approach and escalate. #boyswillbeboys features Lawson Lundberg, a 3-year old genius who is the youngest member of Mensa. https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/premature-baby-becomes-prodigy-by-3/ Check out more on www.theorionway.com To support the show go here: https://www.patreon.com/theorionway
Lucas Charon is a 12 year educator in the public school system. A no show Zoom call turned into a live episode this week. I share a conversation I had with my son based on a bad parental nightmare where I thought I had “lost” my son to someone who was giving him bad advice and he no longer wanted to listen to me. Many of us have been in the presence of someone with narcissistic tendencies. In fact all of us have, because we all possess them, some at higher levels than others. Sophie Kjaervik, PhD student in communication at the Ohio State University, did a research paper that reviewed 437 studies on narcissism and aggression with over 123,000 participants. We break down her research and what it revealed in this deep dive into narcissism and how it impacts relationships and the workplace. We hear all about the bad things that people do in relationships, but what about the good signs? What are some of the things you need to actually look FOR in a relationship. So often we spend so much time looking for warning signs in relationships that we never take the time to look for what makes this person “a catch” and it can be to our own detriment. I start off with examples of the 8 biggest red flags and then dive into a slew of green flags to turn it into a positive episode. Death always makes you take a deeper look at your life. What am I doing? What could I be doing better? When you realize that time is shorter than you thought, you have to really start taking action now. Taking ownership of your life means being accountable to yourself. If you don't take the time to look at what it is that you truly want to accomplish and then formulate a plan and get someone to hold you accountable, the odd of you getting that thing done is slim to none. Accountability is next of kin to self respect. You have to have the will and desire to see things through so you can be proud of yourself. I talk about my own shortcomings as a man and a father and how I went about turning that around so that I come out on top. Hopefully this will help you out too. #boyswillbeboys features Deputy J. My fiancé joins me on this episode to talk about what it means to “be real” in a relationship and also her definition of what “normal” even means to her and to many women at large. We discuss how our relationship started, and how we were able to let our guard down over time despite our concerns. Relationships don't have to be hard, and oftentimes we expect them to be, but if you allow yourself to be real and vulnerable, you can cut through a lot of the things that eventually show up later in your relationship that can be deal breakers. Bringing your “representative” to relationships can waste a lot of time getting to what's really going to just be in the relationship. It's better to get that stuff out of the way early rather than later so you don't have to be so wrapped up emotionally and make it hard on yourself to get out of a bad relationship that really, shouldn't have gone farther than the first date. #boyswillbeboys features Ben Mazur of Alton, Illinois. You might want to take notes listening to this one to find personal acceptance and realize you are a bright loving being. Feel free to binge on these episodes, but just know that I started going solo at Episode 84 because I felt my co-host was on the side of a woman hater.
