Ella Wegman-Lawless has done her fair share of communal and intentional living in Vermont. She wondered: “How much of Vermont as a place cultivates that?”So she asked us: “Does Vermont have a high number of communes, and if so, what's the deal?” To answer Ella's question, reporter Mae Nagusky surveys intentional living communities in Vermont, past and present: communes, co-ops, eco-villages and the like. If your mind immediately goes to the peace and free love hippies of the ‘60s and ‘70s, you're not alone. And that's a part of the story. But intentional communities take many shapes in our state — and not all of them fit that stereotype. To see photos from Mae's reporting check out our web feature.Mae Nagusky reported this episode, and did the mix and sound design. Christmas time is upon us! To celebrate the season this year, I brought together talented musician friends Alexander MacNeil (Alexander and the Great Ones), Andriana Chobot and Chris Blades (Birds of Bellwoods) to form The Christmas Gang and asked past guests of the show to contribute a Christmas song of their choosing (us gangsters did a song each as well). Sit in on the Gang as we hear those songs for the first time, reacting in real time and bantering our little hearts out. Also featuring skits, totally authentic ads for definitely real products that absolutely exist (for sure!), and there might even be a seasonal poem in there. Best listened to while sipping your favorite holiday beverage in front of a roaring fire, while cooking a beautiful holiday meal or while driving down snow-covered lanes on your way to nowhere because holiday travel is off the table this year folks! “Stay in your lane!”. If you’ve ever heard this phrase before, you may know how it feels to be shut down before you can even try new things. It is human nature to want to continuously grow and learn. Yet if we restrict ourselves to the things that we know and the things that make us comfortable, we will never be pushed towards growth. As Jon Beaty says, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.”As a hand physician, Eric was always told to stay in his lane and not pursue investment opportunities outside his scope of practice. However, with his passion and curiosity for learning new things, that was just not possible for him. He believes that “we have an innate intelligence to learn any new discipline.”It is with this mindset that Eric has been able to not only achieve a net worth of $500 million but to also be an exceptional hand surgeon, and run several successful practices. He also credits his success and balance on the talented and caring individuals around him, who share his passion for meeting and helping others, as well as his loving wife, Kim, and two daughters, Chloe and Cassidy.Today, Eric is a renowned hand surgeon, serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, published author, philanthropist, founder and CEO of Omega Hospital, New Orleans’s first physician-owned hospital; the Hand Center of Louisiana, where he actively practices; and ERG Enterprises, a $1 billion investment firm committed to changing communities worldwide. On this episode of the Rock Your Money, Rock Your Life podcast, Eric and I discuss how he took the plunge and became a serial entrepreneur, why abundance is so much more than just wealth, and why we should reject the phrase, “Stay in your lane.”

Last, we get to hear Eric perform an original song off his album, “Songs of Resistance.” We thought the story of John Henry and Eric George's performance were so important and incredible, that we are making them available to all of our listeners. In Part Two, Dylan Kelley, friend of the pod and local journalist, and I dive into the hard history embodied in the story of John Henry while exploring the remains of Barre's railyard. John Henry's ghost still haunts us, calling us to acknowledge the violence of our past and fight for justice. The revolutionary history and spirit so clearly embodied in the version we feature as our theme song in Season 1 shows us how. There has been much research focused on what leaders need to be effective. Ryan Gottfredson asked, how do we capture the being element of leadership? In other words, what is the mindset? Ryan is a consultant, professor, and author of Success Mindsets: The Key to Unlocking Greater Success in Your Life, Work, & Leadership. Kevin and Ryan both agree that our mindsets fuel our thinking, learning, and behavior. Further, if you don't have the right mindset, it is more difficult to build your skillsets. Ryan recognizes that logically we know a command and control system does not work and yet studies show 65% of employees want a new boss compared to more pay. He found leaders still struggle, despite the logic, because for most people, our mindsets are something we are not aware of. Ryan is offering a free assessment on his website so you can see where you stand. At the end of the day, we all have room for improvement and Ryan offers suggestions to help us get there. In this episode, Ryan: Defines Mindset. Provides an overview of the 4 primary mindsets. Remarkable Dialogue Ask yourself: What is your mindset? Despite the current situation, there’s never been a better time to think about investment. The world has to go back to normal sooner or later, so what will your business portfolio look like when it does? In this week’s show, Nick talks to Dr Eric George, the world-renowned surgeon, entrepreneur and philanthropist about the best ways in which we can keep the channels of investment open by nurturing the critical relationship between the entrepreneur and investor. No matter which side you fall on, this is an incredibly insightful conversation that will open up all kinds of new perspectives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Entrepreneurs and investors are such separate entities, but their power is increased exponentially when they unite in the same cause. Narrow-mindedness is a barrier to innovation. If we cannot achieve a certain goal through lack of technology or knowledge, then grow, develop or acquire someone in order to achieve it. There’s a real sense of collaboration between management and investors right now, who recognise that effective synergy brings rich rewards to all involved. Leaders emerge in times of trouble. Those with the natural instinct to thrive and survive are beacons to those in need of direction. The world is changed forever. It’s up to the thinkers and innovators to make sure that the world is changed for the better. BEST MOMENTS ’The more connected that entrepreneurs and investors are, the greater success those two entities will have’ ‘Don’t be afraid to get in the water and swim!’ ‘In situations like this you’ve got to step up. You have to think differently’ ’There’s nothing like a common enemy to build camaraderie’ ’Something like this forces you to do the things you should’ve been doing anyway' VALUABLE RESOURCES @erg163 Nick’s Twitter Scale Up Your Business Podcast www.nickcbradley.com - https://www.suybacademy.com Dr Eric George LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-george-md/ ERG Enterprises - https://www.ergenterprises.net ABOUT THE HOST My name is Nick Bradley. Although we all try at times, we just can't do it all nor can we do it alone. For our teams and organizations to become successful, we need to change this mindset. Kevin sits down with Dr. Eric George; hand surgeon, investor, philanthropist and author of We: Ditch the Me Mindset and Change the World. People want their leaders to care for them. Kevin and Dr. George talk about what he's learned from medicine and how he expanded his reach. In this episode, Dr. George discusses 1. The We mindset. 2. An open and honest letter written by Coach Eric George from 2017 about an experience he had with his son who "sat him down and told him that he really doesn't care if he plays college ball or not." Joseph reads the letter since Eric couldn't be with King Talk today.
