Shakespeare wrote some of the most beautiful poetry and sweetest love scenes in history. But, as we all know, he also thought up some of the grisliest fight scenes and murders. How do you stage Macbeth and Macduff's duel, or Lavinia's maiming, or Mercutio's death? Fight choreographer and master David Brimmer is here to shed some light on what those fights do for the story, and how actors get them onstage. David has been working in fight choreography for 40 years, and has staged fights for both Shakespearean and contemporary work for Broadway, film sets, and regional theaters across the United States. He is a renowned Fight Master with the Society of American Fight Directors, and founded the stage combat program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He has choreographed for scads of famous directors, actors, and playwrights; one of his recent credits was choreographing for Spring Awakening on Broadway. Today David will talk with us about how he got started in stage combat, how the certification process for stage combat works, how to stage the reality of pain in stage fights, and why combat is meaningful in Shakespeare's works. David is interviewed by host Emily Jackoway. To learn more about NoSweatShakespeare, check out our site at nosweatshakespeare.com and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This week we welcome Actor, Fight Choreographer, and Writer Mark Peterson to the show. Mark is leaving for Germany to get his MFA in acting as well as study some very advanced sword fencing from where it started. Germany! Speaking of where it started, Mark’s Hot take this week is that America has more Nazi’s than Germany. Which makes sense, since being a nazi is illegal in Germany. This may be our most controversial hot take of all time. We do want to say that here at Finger Guns Comedy we believe Nazi’s our obviously terrible people and we do not endorse any of their ideas. They are sad people that live in the past and are desperately fighting the end of a terrible era in human history. Yea, special show notes hot take - Fuck Nazi’s. We also talk to someone who claims to be the best nazi in Europe (Ezra Parter), Coach Bill Belichick, and Adam’s Studio Landlord. Mark is in Germany now! Born in January of 1980, Chris first began his journey in the Martial Arts aged 8. Inspired, as many were at the time, by the movie 'The Karate Kid', Chris joined the local Taekwondo school in his home town of Balby in Doncaster. He enjoyed the high energy kicking style associated with Olympic Taekwondo, although unfortunately the school had to close forcing Chris to look at other options to continue his training. In the mid to late 90's Chris switchted to the ITF style of Taekwondo. Around the same time he discovered the work of Jackie Chan, quickly amassing a large collection of VHS tapes, Chris would spend hours trying to emulate the moves of his new found hero. He began recording his training and sharing the footage online via Martial Arts based internet forums. It was there that UK director and producer Steve Lawson first spotted Chris and offered him his first job in 2000 on a short film shot for a TV show.   The following year, Chris was invited to perform as part of the 'Rising Dragon' Martial Arts team at the Royal Variety Performance. To perform for the Queen was a huge honour! Following on from this, Chris worked many  UK productions such as 'Left 4 Dead', Insiders', 'The Purifiers' and 'Displaced' before landing his first job as Fight Choreographer on 2005 release 'Soul Searcher' Shortly after completing work on Soul Searcher, Chris was asked to Choreograph a fight scene on the award winning 'Love Struck' as well as playing a small acting role in the movie 'The Silencer'. This gave Chris the opportunity to work with talented fight peformers and actors such as Joey Ansah, Christian Howard & Glen Salvage. He also gained valuable set time working with a vastly experienced crew and production team. Around the same time, Chris gained experience working on live TV as well as appearing on the popular BBC TV show 'Prank Patrol', he also travelled to Norway to act as Fight Choreographer on the live action adaptation of comicbook 'Smasher'. Earlier, in mid 2004, Chris gained experience working on the SONY PSP release 'Pursuit Force' as well as working on the Five TV series 'Combat Club' before returning to film Screen Fighting a year or two later in the UK production 'Underground'. In the late 2000's Chris worked in China on 'Blood: The Last Vampire', the UK TV series 'Star Hyke' as well as the movies 'Ten Dead men' and 'Bodyguard: A new beginning'. In 2009, Chris decided to take time away to spend time with his family and develop his Martial Arts Academy. 2013 saw a return to action as Fight Choreographer on the multiple award winning 'DOG' as well as working most recently as a screen fighter and choreographer on the films 'Vengeance', 'Wendy' and 'Essex Heist'. Please join me this Thursday as I welcome: JILLIAN BULLOCK “A woman of inspiration to young girls and women of all ages” Jillian "The Jaguar" Bullock has been called a modern day Superwoman. In addition to being a Writer, Producer and Filmmaker, she also holds the title of Self-Defense Instructor, Fight Choreographer and Boxer. Bullock, who has been in the fitness field for over 30 years, also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Wing Chun, and has trained extensively as a wrestler and boxer -- most would definitely agree that she has mastered the art of "self-defense" -- which makes it hard to imagine that this modern-day "Superwoman" was once a "victim" of violence. Jillian Bullock knows first hand how important it is for women to learn the art of self-defense -- as a former rape victim (age 11), Bullock counteracted her negative experience into positive energy through empowerment. Determined to never becoming a “victim” again, Bullock learned self-defense techniques that have equipped her to handle any potentially dangerous situation -- and she plans on taking her message (and techniques) to girls and women across the country. Jillian's message for young girls and women is not just “physical” empowerment…but “emotional” and “spiritual” empowerment as well. In addition, Jillian is currently in pre-production of a film entitled, The Champion Inside, which is a script Jillian wrote, centers on a champion female boxer who is forced to retire after she learns she has cancer. Her return to boxing to regain the IFBA Welterweight title is complicated by her age, she's 39, and her fear and lack of confidence to fight again after five years in boxing exile. Along with being the writer, Jillian will wear the hats of producer, actor, and fight choreographer on the film. For more information about the project log on to - www.thechampioninsidemovie.com. In her effort to encourage women to “think outside the box” and take on “non-traditional” jobs, Ji
