It's a simple enough show this week, kids. We're just looking at a bunch of movies from half a century ago. 1975 was a game-changing year in film. Early 70s trends like blaxploitation and dystopian sci-fi were about to be swept aside, as a certain giant Spielbergian shark ushered in the blockbuster era. But meanwhile, the year still offered some genuine classics (Dog Day Afternoon, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), some cult classics (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Rocky Horror Picture Show), some Disney for the kids (Apple Dumpling Gang, Escape to Witch Mountain), giant spiders, crazy mamas, blazing stewardesses, switchblade sisters, and plenty of Pam Grier. So pop in a Glen Campbell 8-track and cruise over to your local ugly 1970s movie theater. And grab a big box of Raisinets, even though they're lousy. The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! In this lively episode of the Wise_N_Nerdy Podcast, hosts Charles and Joe bring their unique blend of humor, insight, and camaraderie as they tackle another week of fatherhood and fandom. The show kicks off with the Question of the Week: "What is your favorite Disney movie?" Joe enthusiastically chooses Tron, showcasing his love for sci-fi classics. Meanwhile, Charles counters with nostalgic picks like Hawmps! and The Apple Dumpling Gang, setting the tone for a playful and diverse episode. The duo takes their customary roll of the dice, landing first on the "How do I...?" segment. This week, the discussion revolves around instilling a love for learning in children, where Joe and Charles debate the balance between nurturing curiosity and managing screen time—a challenge every modern parent knows well. Next, the dice roll brings the "Parliament of Papas" segment. Charles shares his thoughts on spousal support for creative endeavors, expressing his wish for a partner who might co-create alongside him. This heartfelt moment deepens the conversation, showing the personal stakes of balancing creativity and relationships. The fates then reward us with the "Daddy, tell me a story" segment. Here, Charles opens up about how The Matrix altered his worldview, sparking a broader discussion about media's influence. Joe adds his perspective, reflecting on how Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron shaped his understanding of individuality and equality. Listeners get their chance to shine as CaseyJay and Devocite chime in with thoughtful SpeakPipe messages, leading to a detour into a hilarious bad dad joke showdown. Devocite sets the bar with a couple of groan-worthy zingers, but Charles and Joe don't hesitate to contribute a few pun-filled gems of their own. Finally, the episode wraps with the "What are you Nerding out about?" segment. Joe shares his excitement about listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, comparing its humor and charm to The Princess Bride. Charles, meanwhile, recounts the recent snowstorm and how it provided a relaxing escape, while Joe recalls building a towering six-foot snowman with his kids—a family memory in the making. So, whether you're here for the parenting advice, nerdy tangents, or just some great laughs, remember: Find your FAMdom and join us next time for more adventures on Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom.

Is there a hidden canary in Big Thunder's queue? This episode of Distory is truly for the birds as we head into the ventilation room of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Walt Disney World. As we finish our exploration of the queue, we discuss one of the oldest popular forms of animation from the 1800s, resuscitate some canaries, and find some very dangerous rocks. Kate discovers a few more connections to the Apple Dumpling Gang (which Kirk clearly loves) and we both puzzle over a few items we have yet to figure out in the queue. Inching our way closer to getting on this wild ride, we both start to lose it as Kate resists the urge to be a completionist and Kirk contemplates investing in sticking tommies. But we are both delighted by something in the load area that no one ever notices (but hopefully will now). Join us LIVE on TikTok every Friday at 5:30pm Pacific/8:30pm Eastern for more Distory! Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Kelly Conway, daughter of genius comedian Tim Conway. Many of you know Tim Conway from his television career on The Steve Allen Show, McHale's Navy and likely The Carol Burnett Show. Some may know him from his film career in Disney films like The Apple Dumpling Gang or The Private Eyes with Don Knotts among others, like Gus or The Prize Fighter. You might even know him from Spongebob Squarepants or 30 Rock. After all he was nominated for 13 Emmy awards and won six times as a performer and writer. But many of you may not know about Conway's impact on his brood of six, count them six children. We spoke to Kelly about her experience with dad and writing her book, My Dad's Funnier Than Your Dad. And you ain't kidding anbout that! Kelly recounts to us her life growing up in the San. Fernando Valley as the eldest and oldest in a house where dad made their living room a movie theater (with tickets, popcorn counter and turn style) or sewing slipcovers or sport coats himself. We talk about his relationship and her family relationship with Ghoulardi's Ernie Anderson (father of director Paul Thomas Anderson) as well as folks like Steve and Eydie, Mike Connors, Harvey Korman and Bob Newhart. We also delve into Kelly's story of how she fought for her father's healthcare during his later years and the legal battle she waged simply to see her father when his stepmother refused to allow her to do so. It's pretty heavy stuff and frankly, opened up the topic to host Josh Mills about his own issues with his mother's end-of-life healthcare as well. You will laugh, you might cry but you certainly won't forget this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast with Kelly Conway. Take a listen.

Don Knotts, born Jesse Donald Knotts (1924-2006), was the legendary funnyman who made Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968) one of the most beloved characters in television comedy. He also made many movies with Tim Conway (1933-1019) such as The Incredible Mr. Limpet, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The Apple Dumpling Gang. I met Karen Knotts, his daughter, when we were roommates and booth-mates at a National Arts Conference, APAP. A dwindling animation department; a lot of ground lost to Spielberg, Lucas, Henson and Donner in the "family movie" market; an executive boardroom STILL asking "What would Walt have done?"; and a WHOLE lot of very dumb slapstick comedy sequels starring Don Knotts and/or Tim Conway, or in the case of this week's topic, both! Geoffrey's friend Micah is back again to talk about all the weird Disney movies we grew up watching previews for back before the Disney Renaissance of the late 80s and early 90s. We start by talking about the trailer for Watcher in the Woods, which seems so much scarier than the actual movie! We actually have a good bit of Watcher in the Woods talk for the first 18 minutes of this episode, so clearly that movie left us with a lot of thoughts! Then we reminisce about many of the classics in this medley of Disney previews from the early 1980s. Julia googles "Disney movie lobster slap" and Micah tells us a horrific story about his association with the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Also, wow is that "Walt Disney and You" theme song an earworm! The Disney movie lobster slap in question turns out to be from Herbie Rides Again (1974).Then we watch a George Burns commercial for the Pollenex smokeless ashtray. Wow, this is some really bad innuendo. We also discuss whether the Disney previews made us curious to watch any of these movies now. Apple Dumpling Gang? Pollyanna? What do you think? If you're having fun listening to us, please tell your friends about us!       On this episode of the show Phillip is joined again by Brandt and they talk about the movies Dunkirk (2017), Enemy at the Gates (2001), and The Big Red One (1980). Phillip starts the show by making some corrections from this and previous shows. Then he talks about what he has been watching at home and the theaters. Then he gets into the prerecorded show. Phillip and Brandt start by talking about; Paris, Texas, Zorro the Gay Blade, The Legend of the Lone Ranger, Love at First Bite, The Pirate Movie, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Superfuzz, and Lone Wolf McQuade. Then Phillip talks about the Zorro the Gay Blade and Stripes soundtrack. They then talk about Dunkirk, their love of 1941, Kubrick and Nolan being the same kind of film makers (maybe), Phillip reminds Brandt about the documentary on Netflix called The Filmworker, they then discuss their favorite Christopher Nolan scenes. Then talk about Inception, Shudder Island, and The Sixth Sense. They talk about what a great actor and director Kenneth Branagh is (Dead Again, Murder on the Orient Express, Hamlet, and Henry V). Then it's time for Enemy at the Gates. They talk about accents in the film, which leads Phillip to tell a story about K-19 Widowmaker. Brandt talks about WWII propaganda and they both agree on Kingdom of Heaven the Director's Cut being a great film. Then they dive into The Big Red One. Brandt talks about how much better the Reconstruction version is. Phillip talks about how great the director's cuts of Aliens and Alien 3 are. Phillip and Brandt talk about the reality of war and the realism of the movie. Then they discuss Sam Fuller's other work. They talk about a documentary on Sam Fuller that they both saw that made them dive deep into Sam Fuller. The documentary was called Sam Fuller, The Typewriter, the Rife, and the movie camera. (It's on Youtube.) Then Phillip talks about Sam Fuller's I Shot Jesse James, which leads Brandt into talking about The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Phillip then talks about 2 more Sam Fuller movies; Pick Up On South Street and Fixed Bayonets. It's a long show, but it is full of movie talk. write us an email at mycelluloidheart@gmail.com Hope you enjoy.

We return to the films of Antonio Margheriti and the decade of the 1970's to see what an Italian made Disney film would look like. You might remember the kind of film we're talking about if you are of a certain age -THAT DARN CAT, GUS, THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG, THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES and certainly THE LOVE BUG which turned a cheap German made car into a fun loving childhood hero. Somehow. And when European producers wish to capitalize on the big budget hits of Hollywood they do the easiest thing possible to create a movie that the public will mistake for American fodder - they hire an American star! In this case, Dean Jones, lead actor in several Disney kiddie features was lured to Italy to make a film just as cute and stupid as the pabulum being force-fed to the little bastards by Uncle Walt's fantasy machine. How well it succeeds will be a test of your own nostalgia or, perhaps, your lack of patience with resolutely silly stories.  John Hudson joins me to dig into this ridiculous science fiction comedy and as difficult a watch as it was for grown men, there are joys amide the pain. Not a lot of joys, but enough to keep us from losing our minds. We talk about the good cast, the odd choice of aspect ratio, the fantastic music, the Italian Peter Lorre, pointless animal testing and bizarre tropes that get trotted put in this genre of Saturday afternoon kiddie matinee. Of course, we also spend a sad amount of time lamenting the extremely short time the mythical Invisible Chimp is a part of the story. Clearly he was a highly paid ape and they could only afford him for a couple of days! As a bonus (?), I also take a minute to complain loudly about one of the dumbest turns of phrase/jokes/sad bits of non-humor from the past that is present in this film in the very first seconds. Sometimes I just have to get things off my chest even if it might make me sound like an old man screaming at clouds. Sorry. Thank you for downloading and listening to the show. Mr. Hudson and I plan to step up production of these Margheriti episodes this year and we even go so far as to announce the next two films we'll cover. We love going through these films and it is a blast see that there are others out there interested enough in his work to listen to us praise him. Join us over on The Bloody Pit Facebook page (which I forgot to mention in this show) or write us a review in iTunes or wherever you find our show. See you next time!

STEP IN TIME: Remembering Disney's Matinee Movies is back and this time we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1975 classic film - Walt Disney's THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG! J oining us on this journey to the old west are special guests Steve Glosson and Teresa Delgado of Disney Vault Talk. They bring their brand of fun and fond memories to the conversation while Richard reminisces about his first childhood crush, Celia (Stacy Manning), and Sarah watches the film for the first time in her life. For anyone else who has not seen this film yet or hasn't seen it in a while, here is a refresher on THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG. Bill Bixby (The Incredible Hulk) plays Russell Donovan, a slick gambler duped into taking care of a trio of mischievous orphans named Bobby, Cloves and Celia. Meanwhile, outlaw wanna-be's Tim Conway (The Carol Burnett Show) and Don Knotts (Andy Griffith Show, The Incredible Mr. Limpet) are out to rob anyone they think has anything worth stealing. Set in the Old West during The California Gold Rush, it's a fun ride. The children miraculously strike it rich, but that's when bad guys come out of the woodwork to steal the gold. It's up to The Apple Dumpling Gang to keep it, and their home with Russell Donovan, safe and sound. Hilarity ensues, and so does our conversation. Exactly how does a show roll from The Apple Dumpling Gang into the 80's sex-romp comedy, Porkey's? STEP IN TIME: Remembering Disney's Matinee Movies is a monthly spin-off show where we look back at the Disney live-action films of yesteryear.
