Okay, today it's a very special episode. Firstly, because I'm talking about one my favourite films of the decade- John Landis' 'The Blues Brothers'- and secondly, because I'm joined once again by Liam Dempsey and Paul Willson, two of the hosts from Spocklight: A Star Trek Podcast. And we have much to discuss with this film and beyond. You can certainly expect us to examine the careers of Landis and his leads, Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi (commenting on the films '1941', 'Ghostbusters, 'Beverly Hills Cop 3', 'Blues Brothers 2000' to name but a few). So sit back and relax, pour yourself an orange whip, and listen as we discuss a stone-cold classic.
In this episode Paul, Kieran and I pick back up with our Blackadder coverage, with an episode on the third series episode 'Ink and Incapability' (FYI- it's the one with the dictionary).
Ron Bloom is a comedian/producer in the Chicago area! Sometimes in life, you meet people who are an immediate inspiration and Ron is one of them. George Schlatter is living a life full of legendary firsts and remarkable adventures because he embraces innovation. George's captivating career path is documented in his book, Still Laughing: A Life In Comedy. It's a hilarious page-turner that serves as a showbiz primer and history lesson. It's also self-improvement manual for anyone in search of creative inspiration. One of George's key mottos is: When all hope is fading, make them laugh. George has brazenly cracked up Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Cary Grant. Now it's your turn.George takes us backstage with Lucille Ball, Judy and Liza, Sammy Davis Jr. Stevie Wonder, Cher and the cast of Laugh-In. He tells us how he talked Lucy into riding an elephant with Steve Lawrence through Shubert Alley. He shares his secret network executive management technique: Get them drunk at lunch. And he offers astutely passionate observations about the current state of television and how it's changed since the turbulently transformative sixties.George believes that rules are guidelines that should be courageously challenged. On a bet from Jack Lemmon, George sneaked a naughty phrase into an episode of Laugh-In, winning Jack as a guest star on the show. He pioneered the airing of bloopers and outtakes. He invented the Las Vegas lounge act and created reality TV with Real People which shared the true stories of the Navajo Code Talkers, The Tuskegee Airmen and the Viet Nam War's missing in action. We also challenge George to a round of People You've Worked With Roulette, talk about his once-lost show, Turn-On, which was cancelled 20 minutes into its first hour. You can find that and so much more on George's new Youtube Channel, Clown Jewels! In recommendations, Weezy loves Conan O'Brien Must Go on Max, and Fritz and Weezy are both obsessed with Stax: Soulsville USA, also on Max.Path Points of Interest:George SchlatterGeorge Schlatter on WikiGeorge Schlatter on IMDBStill Laughing: A Life in Comedy - Now out in paperback. Heaven's above! Jack Benny is an angel sent on a mission to end the world by playing his trumpet on the top of a hotel at midnight, and if he fails he can't come back to play in the celestial orchestra. Despite his purest intentions, he's met with distractions and obstacles along they way: a pretty woman in trouble, delicious food, and fallen angels who want to remain on Earth.Robin and Lisa discuss one of our childhood favorites, this never serious slapstick comedy that has you cheering for the world to explode!https://www.instagram.com/realoldreels/

Disc-Connected's Ryan Verrill stops by to sum up, describe & make extra clear the moments that propelled the U.S. version of TV's THE OFFICE to the comedic masterpiece it rightfully claims. Why does this show bring even nitwits out of their shell? If it wasn't at a paper company, where would it be set now? If they didn't pick the mockumentary style, how else could've they had made this dynsfunctional workplace hysterical? Step right in but don't apply, just listen as we terminate this workplace! One of the great cinematic experiences of all time, "Dumb and Dumber" comes to Born to Watch. The boys will try to hold it together as they take a road trip and discover if John Denver really is full of shit.In the vast landscape of comedy films, there are few that manage to capture the essence of absurdity, slapstick humour, and sheer stupidity as brilliantly as "Dumb and Dumber." Directed by Peter Farrelly and released in 1994, this cult classic has managed to maintain its place in the annals of cinematic history, continuing to elicit hearty laughter from audiences of all ages and backgrounds. At its core, "Dumb and Dumber" is a buddy road trip movie that follows the misadventures of two endearingly clueless protagonists, Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), as they embark on a cross-country journey to return a briefcase to its rightful owner and, in the process, find themselves caught up in a series of hilariously ludicrous escapades. The film is a masterclass in physical comedy, absurd situations, and impeccable timing, with Carrey and Daniels delivering performances that are nothing short of comedic brilliance. One of the film's strongest assets is its unapologetically simple and straightforward premise. Lloyd and Harry's journey is propelled by their endearing stupidity and unwavering optimism, creating a unique blend of humour that effortlessly transcends the boundaries of logic. The film's charm lies in its ability to embrace the absurdity of its characters' actions and decisions, presenting them as genuinely lovable despite their lack of intelligence. This is where the film's true genius shines through – it never takes itself too seriously and encourages its audience to do the same, resulting in a lighthearted experience that leaves viewers with aching sides and smiles on their faces.Jim Carrey's performance as Lloyd Christmas is a tour de force of physical comedy and over-the-top expressions. Carrey's ability to contort his face and body to convey a range of emotions is a spectacle in itself, and it's clear that he fully embraced the role's inherent silliness. From the iconic "Most Annoying Sound in the World" scene to his unforgettable shenanigans with the "TurboLax" laxative, Carrey's comedic timing and commitment to his character make Lloyd Christmas unforgettable in cinematic history. On the other hand, Jeff Daniels' portrayal of Harry Dunne serves as the perfect foil to Carrey's exuberance. Daniels' deadpan delivery and everyman demeanour create a wonderful dynamic with Carrey, allowing their on-screen chemistry to truly shine. Daniels' ability to play the straight man amidst the chaos provides a grounding element to the film, making the ridiculousness of their adventures all the more entertaining. In addition to the performances, "Dumb and Dumber" boasts a memorable supporting cast that adds layers of humour to the story. Lauren Holly's portrayal of Mary Swanson, the woman whose lost briefcase sets the plot in motion, adds a touch of romantic interest and gives Lloyd and Harry a goal to strive towards. The antagonistic duo of Sea Bass (Cam Neely) and Joe Mentalino (Mike Starr) provides a series of uproarious confrontations, with their encounters with Lloyd and Harry becoming increasingly outlandish and side-splitting.Furthermore, the film's script, penned by the Farrelly brothers, is a masterstroke of comedic writing. The dialogue is peppered with quotable one-liners that have become ingrained in pop culture, showcasing the film's enduring influence on humour. The gags and jokes are delivered with a finesse that keeps the pacing brisk and the laughs consistent, and the screenplay's ability to take seemingly mundane situations and escalate them to absurd heights is a testament to the writers' comedic prowess. The visual gags and slapstick humour are complemented by a memorable soundtrack that perfectly captures the film's zany spirit. The use of catchy tunes and playful melodies adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the viewing experience, further cementing "Dumb and Dumber" as a feel-good, popcorn-munching favourite. As with any film, "Dumb and Dumber" is not without its critics. Some argue that the film's reliance on crude humour and physical gags may not appeal to all tastes, and its lack of depth could be seen as a drawback. However, it's important to approach the film with an understanding of its comedic intentions – "Dumb and Dumber" is not meant to be a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition; it's an unabashed celebration of stupidity and laughter. In conclusion, "Dumb and Dumber" remains a timeless comedy that continues to bring joy to audiences decades after its release. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels deliver performances that are nothing short of comedic genius, and their dynamic chemistry forms the heart of the film's enduring charm. The movie's ability to take the simplest of premises and elevate them to uproarious levels is a testament to its comedic brilliance, and its quotable dialogue and iconic scenes have left an indelible mark on popular culture. Whether you're a fan of slapstick humor or simply looking for a good laugh, "Dumb and Dumber" is a classic that promises to keep audiences entertained for generations to come. So, gather your friends, grab some popcorn, and prepare to embark on a side-splitting journey with Lloyd and Harry – just remember to leave your intellect at the door. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcast If you are looking to start a podcast and want a host or get guests to pipe in remotely, look no further than Riverside.fmClick the link below https://riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_1&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=matthew

We talk about the century old legacy of Buster and how, still today, there are dedications and events in his name, all the time. We also talk to Keaton about her own career as a voice over actor, who has voiced roles in television, commercials, podcasts, video games and more for everyonre from Apple to Netflix to Nintendo and more. In fact, Keaton schools our host Josh Mills on everything from Looping to E-learning. We also talk about Keaton's time at Cal Arts, studying to become an actress, her years auditioning, how she started a Hula-Hoop company (you know, for kids) and how she landed at the perfect spot in her acting career, right now. It's all next on the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
