Cirina Catania interviews singer/musician Billy J. Kramer this week on OWC RADiO. Billy J Kramer and the Beatles Imagine...It's Liverpool in the 60's. The Merseybeat is in full swing. What comes to mind? The Beatles - yes! And…"Do You Want to Know a Secret," from Billy J Kramer, a charismatic singer with a string of hits that began with that John Lennon and Paul McCartney penned song. As Billy said in this interview, "Do You Want to Know a Secret” was not a cover. It was arranged and performed originally by him. And Billy caught the eye of Ed Sullivan soon after. The Ed Sullivan Show gave his career an additional kick-start with regular appearances on TV. Billy followed up with “Bad to Me,” which was also written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The recording of the song was released in 1963 and it became a hit, reaching #2 in the UK Singles Chart. John Lennon was present during the recording session at Abbey Road Studios. The single was released in the United States the following year and was a top-ten hit there as well. Billy J Kramer, 1965 Years later, he's still going strong. His "To Liverpool With Love" toured in 2013 and he recently released his album, "I Won the Fight." OWC's Larry O'Connor recently partnered with Brian Vincik to send Billy to Nashville to record four new songs for his new album in 2021. You can find his fascinating autobiography entitled "Do You Want to Know a Secretbilly - The Autobiography of Billy J. Kramer," here Billy J Kramer performs a new song in the Nashville studio, 2021 - (Photo courtesy of Randy Fuchs) Cirina had a great time interviewing Billy about his career, his friendship with the Beatles, his struggles with alcoholism, and his positive thoughts for the future. Episode Summary: Cops and robbers are a sacrament of film. Once crime was introduced to cinema, filmmakers and writers uncovered its narrative power. Like any popular subject matter, it tends to get bland as films present watered-down versions and half-assed attempts at telling a compelling crime story. Fast forward to 1995's Heat. Heat is art meets action in the form of cops and robbers. Instead of your standard crime drama, Michael Mann serves up a delicious character study that focuses on the subtle variance in moral fibers that put good and bad on opposite sides. The movie breaks wide open when you realize that Vincent and McCauley are the same people. They just happen to fall on different sides of the law. The Departed seems like a Scorsese rerun on the outside. However, it doesn't take long to see that it's not his age-old formula of “3 hours of zooming in on the thing that makes a character unbearable.” Instead, he puts together a giant cast and shows his ability to tell a story across multiple points of view. In this episode, the guys discuss how simply having a giant, star-laden cast doesn't guarantee a good film. It takes a director and a vision. These two films are the ultimate example of how to balance star power and story. As for randos, the guys discuss the preparation that actors went through, Michael Mann's attention to character detail, and the artistic design of these powerhouse films. Movie Wars Scorecard Best Top Bill Cast Best Supporting Cast Least Bloated cast(best utilization of gigantic cast) Music Neil McCauley Vs. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Hanna (Al Pacino) attempts to track down McCauley as he deals with the chaos in his own life, including the infidelity of his wife (Diane Venora) and the mental health of his stepdaughter (Natalie Portman). McCauley and Hanna discover a mutual respect, even as they try to thwart each other's plans. Let's Talk Winning w/ Don Julio Reposado | EP61 Ok, normally I (Chris) don't think "winning" and #tequila belong in the same sentence, but I may be out numbered at our table. As Billy says, this is a sipper, not a shooter. He even has special glasses just for tequila. Chris does not find this fascinating at all LOL. But, what all three of us can agree on is that we are striving to win. Not necessarily against "others" but competing against yesterdays version of ourselves. Striving to improve and make our real estate companies better every single day. Cheers to that!
Exactly one year after the murder of John Tunstall, a Lincoln County miracle occurs: Jimmy Dolan and Billy Bonney make peace. The two warring factions agree to stop fighting, but the armistice doesn't hold. As Billy pursues a risky plan to earn a pardon from the new governor, a murder shatters the peace agreement and threatens Billy's hopes for amnesty. Billy Bush is our guest today. Billy came to the Process four years ago when his life instantly plummeted into chaos. Listen in as Billy shares with us about his time at the Process and his life since. In his heartwarming and candid style, Billy tells his stories with vulnerability, humor, and a kind of confidence that comes when you've found your way back from being down. As Billy says, "There's a lot of value in knowing what it feels like to be down when you're talking to people because everybody is going to be down. I don't care who you are; if calamity has not struck yet, it will." Billy's time at Hoffman proved to be a turning point. He survived it all by digging deep into himself, owning his flaws, and identifying the patterns in his life. There was a moment at the Process when he wanted to leave. But, he found by staying with himself long enough, he realized that the Process was indeed doing exactly what he came for. In Billy's words, "It was a successful reboot." Billy Bush has had a long and successful career in radio and television. He currently is the host of Extra. Before that, he was the host of the Today Show's 3rd hour and the host of Access Hollywood. Whether you just started your company or are working for a much larger organization, you likely have financial goals. While they are personal to you, there are some key principles that you can leverage and implement to reach those goals. In this episode of Connection Loop, Dubb Creative Director Shannon Leonard sits down with Billy Alvaro to discuss how you can create unstoppable wealth. Among the insights you will hear in this episode include the following: You don’t have a business unless you have leads that turn into contracts. Because of this, you need to invest money into marketing when you are first starting off. This is true both in the real estate business and virtually any other business. Getting those first few leads can be tough, but it isn’t impossible. One common misconception in real estate investing is that you need to have a significant amount of savings to get started. As Billy says, you can get started with just $1. If you can control the property with a contract, you can then control how you are going to be able to sell it. While the details can be more complicated, the possibilities are there. Real estate investing takes a ton of work. Even though some gurus may say that you can easily make a killing by following a simple formula, the simple fact is that you have to put in the time and effort. However, if you are consistent and learn from your mistakes, you can be much closer to creating unstoppable wealth. Video can be a huge benefit in the real estate space. Not only does it show off your personality, but it can show off your knowledge about a particular property or market. Whether you are investing in real estate or are a real estate broker, you should definitely consider leveraging the power of video. It’s critical to have a tried and true marketing process to generate sales. This is true in both real estate investing and in virtually every other type of business. While your process may not be perfect at the start, continuously refining it will lead to massive benefits. This is an outstanding episode whether you are or are not interested in real estate. Billy’s insights can help you grow your business and build real wealth—no matter the sector or size of your business. We hope you enjoy the episode! Billy Alvaro is the President and Chief Wealth Creator at Max Returns. Max Returns makes real estate easy for homebuyers, homeowners, real estate investors, and newcomers to real estate investing. According to Billy, his clients receive 6% to 12% annualized returns on their capital by investing in performing notes. Along with Max Returns, Billy is a coach and mentor at Flip Masters, which helps students learn to find and close real estate deals in neighborhoods all around the Tri-State area. As if that wasn’t enough, Billy is also the host of a podcast called Unstoppable Real Estate Investing Wealth. Want to learn more from Billy about creating unstoppable wealth? This week, Cory speaks to journalist, author and startup analyst Billy Gallagher, who is well known for covering early-stage startups at TechCrunch and being an analyst at Khosla Ventures. Billy attended Stanford and was in the same fraternity as Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, which he has now written a new book out today on Amazon titled ‘How to Turn Down a Billion Dollars’ covering the events that lead to its skyrocketing multi-billion dollar success. In this week’s episode, Billy talks about how he landed a job at TechCrunch while at college, his exposure to early-stage startups while in venture capital, how he met Evan, and if he thinks Snapchat can become the next Facebook and tells us more about his new book. “LAUNCH AS EARLY AS YOU CAN.” Billy Gallagher (@GallagherBilly) is an investor and author, who recently published How To Turn Down a Billion Dollars: The Snapchat Story. Billy first met Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel as a sophomore at Stanford. “We were in the same fraternity. He had already left the fraternity by the time joined, but we ran in similar crowds. He was two years above me, big personality on campus, had some mutual friends. Met him a few times socially and then, my new editor at TechCrunch was telling me to cover a story on Stanford and the two hottest startups at the time were Snapchat and Clinkle so I started chasing those down.” Cory Levy talked with Billy on the OFF RCRD Podcast about his early interactions with Snapchat, their wild journey, and what other founders can learn from the Snapchat story. Among the questions asked was “what was the first interview (with Evan Spiegel) like? “Evan was already very similar to what he is today, cocky, very brash, but also really intelligent…I remember one of the lines from our interview…he thought the sexting narrative was overblown because it’s not as fun as having real sex, which is a pretty funny line to have in the press.” As Billy described in the interview, Evan and the Snapchat team took a unique and aggressive approach that helped get them to where they are today. “Intense focus, Snap’s managed to stay pretty focused on what the core use case is. They learned a ton from their users. They came out with these things where, at first, when it was just photo and video messaging, users didn’t ask for Stories; they actually asked for group messaging. But Snap focused on Stories and made that a hit and then, much, much later added group messaging. I think that combination of listening to users but not just blindly doing what they say and actually saying to yourself, ‘What are they telling us? What is the problem they want to solve? What’s the best way of long-term for us to solve that?’ not just, ‘You asked for a feature, let’s blindly go build it.’” Through his work with the company, time spent as an analyst for Khosla Ventures and interviews with Evan Spiegel, Billy had the ability to learn about and see Snapchat in action first-hand from the very start back in 2012. How To Turn Down a Billion Dollars: The Snapchat Story dives inside the life of Evan Spiegel, the early roadblocks the company had to overcome, turning down billions of dollars, and much more.
Welcome to Reel Britannia-a very British podcast about very British films....with the occasional hint of professionalism. Join Scott and Steven for their review of Hope and Glory, John Boorman’s semi-autobiographical account of wartime Britain through the eyes of a young boy. Director John Boorman drew from his own childhood experiences for this touching coming-of-age tale about a boy growing up in and around London during World War II. For young Billy Rowan (Sebastian Rice Edwards), the nightly bombings provide a frightening show, but they include opportunities to rummage through the rubble with friends in the mornings. As Billy plays, his family struggles to remain intact as they suffer through the anguish and losses of wartime. Billy, a local activists, recounts his experiences as a member of the LGBTQ community since the 1970s. As Billy describes, “There were many doctors that wouldn’t even see you…if they knew you were gay or thought you had HIV.” Billy refers to the 1980s as the “Lost Years” where he buried several of his ‘brothers’ from AIDS and reflects on the current state of healthcare: “56% of LGB people and 70% of transgender and gender non-conforming people reported experiencing discrimination by health care providers” (www.hrc.org). Throughout the podcast, Billy shares some of the surprising encounters he’s had with clinicians and urges all of us to take action to change healthcare legislation and improve the quality of care for everyone.

Welcome to another episode of the Retirement Answer man, as always I am Roger Whitney the retirement answer man. This week's show is a hodgepodge of great actionable content that might give you the edge you need in your retirement plan. We’ll discuss why alcohol abuse is a problem for many people in retirement and lay out the reasons why. Listen as I answer listener questions and give my tips for investing your Social Security income. Stay tuned to hear it all! Alcohol abuse is a huge problem in retirement. Studies are showing that Alcohol abuse is the number one substance abuse problem for older adults. As Billy said in this episode, retirement almost turned him into an alcoholic. Alcoholism is not an inescapable fate. There are several reasons why one might abuse alcohol once retired. In this episode, I will talk about 6 factors that contribute to retirees drinking too much. Don’t miss this episode of the Retirement Answer Man. Refinancing your home can be a benefit and a curse. Noni wants to know if it would be a good idea to refinance her home and take money out to pay off credit card debts and put her kids through college. Although refinancing a home can be a smart move and paying off debt is almost always a good idea, there are situations where you should use caution. I’ll share my ideas with Noni as to whether or not her situation would benefit from a refinance and borrowing against her house. Stay tuned to hear my warnings so you don’t make a potential mistake. Does taking Social Security early mean more money to invest? Conventional wisdom would say that investing money annually at a good interest rate will bring you out on top. This is not always the case. On this episode of the Retirement Answer Man, Ruth asks for my thought on taking Social Security early in order to invest it. Her calculations show that she will reach age 80 with substantial financial growth having invested her Social Security instead of spending it. Stay tuned to see me run her figures through an investment forecast report taking into consideration the historical changes in the market. You might be surprised at the outcome. A plan is no good if you don’t live long enough to retire After exercising on Sunday, my back became extremely sore and stiff. It has been a struggle to go about daily life. Yet feeling this discomfort makes me thankful that I do not deal with an illness that puts me in a constant state of pain. The condition of our bodies is important. We cannot hope to live a full life if we are neglecting our health. Join me in this episode of the Retirement Answer Man to discuss listening to your body and doing what is best for it. Your retirement will thank you. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE RETIREMENT ANSWER MAN [0:29] Retirement almost turned billy into an alcoholic. [2:05] Stay tuned for listener questions. ANNIE KAGAN: “In this Afterlife TV conversation, Annie Kagan shares her brother Billy’s amazing experience in the spirit world. It all began about 3 weeks after Billy passed. Annie woke up one morning to find that her brother was talking to her from the other side. Not being a medium, Annie was as surprised as any of us would be and wondered if it was all real. Brother Billy Fingers gave Annie evidence to show her that these conversations she was having with him were real. He also gave her evidence to show her that there really is an afterlife. Moreover, Billy told Annie what his experience is like in the spirit world, much of which was pleasantly surprising and comforting to Annie. Annie shares all of this and more with us in this fascinating episode. "This is a wonderful interview to watch if you’ve lost a loved one, especially if you have a loved one who deals with addiction, or if you have communicated with your own loved one in spirit (or would like to) and need to learn to trust that it is real.” ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV Annie Kagan, author of The Afterlife of Billy Fingers, shares how she communicated with her brother on the spiritual side of life. "The Afterlife of Billy Fingers reaffirms the NDEs experiences of the light and love I encountered on the other side. It's an engaging account of the transformation of the spirit and I highly recommend." ─Dannion Brinkley, bestselling author of Saved by the Light "I am telling everyone I know about this book. And I LOVE the clever word play puzzles he gives you, like setting down pearls in an elaborate puzzle, that allow you (and us) to confirm his journey. Thanks to both of you for this thrilling book. I barely slept so I could pick it up again." ─Richard Martini, bestselling author of FlipSide: A Tourist's Guide on How to Navigate the Afterlife "The Afterlife of Billy Fingers is an extraordinary example of extended after-death communication. It's one of the most powerful, liberating, and healing books on life after death I've ever read. In fact, you may have a spiritual experience while reading it that will transform your beliefs about life, death, and the afterlife. I cannot recommend this luminous book highly enough." -Bill Guggenheim, bestselling co-author of Hello From Heaven!, Publisher's Marketplace "Greek philosophers even had a name for the people who somehow suspended between this life and the next life, "walkers between the worlds." Dr. Kagan's thought-provoking account is an excellent example." -Raymond Moody, M.D., Ph.D., bestselling author of twelve books including Life After Life--which has sold over 13 million copies world wide. ANNIE KAGAN: "In this new video conversation on life after death, I talk with Annie Kagan, the author of The Afterlife of Billy Fingers. Three weeks following the passing of her brother Billy, Annie began to hear him talking to her as she woke up. Billy began to tell her what his experience is like on the spiritual side of life. And because she questioned it, he gave her evidence to prove (to her) that these conversations, and life after death, were real. In this interview, we discuss this evidence, what led her to be able to communicate with him, and what he shared about his experience in the afterlife. We also cover addiction and the afterlife, different realms of the spirit world, and the challenges of being empathic on this side of life. I believe this interview will encourage many to trust their ability to communicate with their loved ones in spirit (watch for my story about my friend Phoebe in this regard). Enjoy!" ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV Annie Kagan, author of The Afterlife of Billy Fingers, shares how she communicated with her brother on the spiritual side of life.
