Justin Schlegel from 98 Rock joins us for one of the funniest episodes we've done.We get into his early radio grind, overnight shifts, working multiple jobs with zero sleep, and the insane format changes that had him constantly starting over in radio. Then we get into the good stuff:-Wild 98 Rock stories-how he got into stand-up comedy-moving to Los Angeles and coming back-almost losing the morning show with the “Flapjack & Pickle” prank-radio bits that blew up-comedy influences like Shane Gillis, Louis C.K., Norm Macdonald, Brian Regan, Patrice O'Neal-Baltimore radio history + behind-the-scenes chaosand a ton of ridiculous side stories that go completely off the rails (in the best way)Justin is sharp, hilarious, and a monster storyteller. This was a banger. If you like comedy podcasts, radio stories, Baltimore legends, and unfiltered conversations, this one's for you.Drop a comment: What was your favorite Justin story from this episode?
Justin Schlegel joins me in The Wayback for our next episode of the Baltimore Junkyard Series! (Check out his stand-up special "Chaos" on YouTube, his podcast "The DLP Agenda", and tune in to 98 Rock in Baltimore to catch him on morning radio). One of Baltimore's own, Justin gets nostalgic about summer trips to Ocean City, his dad's love of scrapple, and his biker mom's outsized proportions. We also reminisce about Baltimore's underrated skating scene, losing his virginity in a hot tub in 7th grade, and some of his mom's terrible boyfriends.

When John Schlegel shares his stories of his destination hunts, I am baffled at why someone would put themselves through the pain of physically preparing himself for the hunt and spend over a week pushing his body to the limit to achieve the goal of the hunt. But, as all athletes know, it's the thrill of victory that drives them. John shared his most recent hunt--successful after 3 tries-- to "bag" a mountain goal with bow and arrow. I learned a lot!

Judge Scott Schlegel of the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal joins The Geek in Review for a candid, funny, and unflinchingly practical conversation about AI inside the judicial system. Schlegel wears multiple hats, appellate judge, former prosecutor, reform-minded builder, plus a podcaster and Substack writer who speaks plainly about what works and what fails when technology hits real people on real timelines. The throughline stays consistent, courts do not need more hype, courts need competence, guardrails, and a process mindset.Judge Schlegel tackles the messy reality of AI disclosures, certifications, and uneven court rules across jurisdictions. His core message lands fast, judicial authority lives with the judge, not an AI system. From there, he outlines why chambers guidance matters, along with a structured, step-by-step approach for responsible drafting support, including prompt discipline and workflow thinking. The goal stays simple, faster decisions without surrendering judgment to “bot overlords.”The discussion then shifts to constraints judges live with every day, budgets, procurement rules, security anxiety, and the gap between shiny vendor demos and courthouse reality. Schlegel argues for a scrappy, process-first approach using small pilots, one chambers, one workflow, one measurable result. He compares the moment to early “cloud” adoption lessons, pay for the right security, avoid free tools where the user becomes the product, and treat sensitive records with strict care. Courts will see broader adoption as enterprise-grade options become attainable and baked into trusted platforms. Then comes the part that lingers in your head after the episode ends, deepfakes and voice cloning as a near-term threat to due process, especially in domestic violence and protective order contexts. Schlegel explains why judges tend to err on the side of safety, and why “damage done” shows up long before expert testimony arrives. His practical recommendation focuses on pretrial practice, require disclosure, surface manipulation concerns early, and reduce surprises at trial. He even shares a simple family safety habit, a private “secret word” to confirm identity during urgent calls, since voice cloning tools lower the barrier for fraud. Finally, Schlegel offers a sharp warning about confirmation bias, large language models often aim to please the user, which benefits advocates and harms neutral decision-making. His answer: an “AI alignment test” mindset, deliberate prompting, and refusal to outsource the white-page moment to a model. For the future, he points toward structural change courts rarely receive funding for, true legal technologists who redesign case management and public-facing guidance at scale. If courts stop printing emails and living in wire baskets, progress follows, and yes, somewhere in a parallel universe, Schlegel still wants a hologram machine.Judge Schlegel, his court, and his workJudge Schlegel bio page. FOMC cut rates by 25bps to 3.50-3.75%, as expected, while the vote split was 9-3, as Miran voted for a 50bps cut. Goolsbee and Schmid voted for unchanged.Fed said it is to assess incoming data, evolving outlook and balance of risks in considering the extent and timing of further adjustment (tweaked from “in considering additional adjustments”), and it will monitor implications of incoming information for the economic outlook.Powell said adjustments to rates since September should help stabilise the labour market and keep pressure down on inflation, while the Fed is well positioned to determine adjustments to rates, and rates are now in a plausible range of neutral.Powell also noted there is a lot of data due before the next meeting, and the Fed can wait and see how the economy evolves when asked about whether the 'risk management' phase of rate cuts is over.APAC stocks were ultimately subdued after failing to sustain the early positive momentum from the dovishly perceived FOMC; US equity futures gave back their post-FOMC spoils as tech/AI concerns were stoked following a slump in Oracle shares.European equity futures indicate a softer cash market open with Euro Stoxx 50 futures down 0.1% after the cash market closed with losses of 0.2% on Wednesday.Looking ahead, highlights include Swedish CPI (Nov), US Initial Jobless Claims (6 Dec, w/e), SNB/CBRT Rate Announcements, IEA OMR, OPEC MOMR, Speakers including SNB's Schlegel, BoE's Bailey, ECB's de Guindos, Supply from Italy & US, Earnings from Broadcom, Costco & lululemon.Read the full report covering Equities, Forex, Fixed Income, Commodites and more on Newsquawk
What would you do if the system you trusted to protect your child became the source of their suffering? In this powerful episode of Politely Rude, Abby Johnson sits down again with Jackie Schlegel, founder and executive director of Texans for Medical Freedom, for a candid and emotional conversation about the growing movement for medical transparency and parental choice. Jackie opens up about her daughter Ashlyn's vaccine injury — an experience that changed her life, launched her into advocacy, and continues to fuel her fight for accountability in public health.Together, Abby and Jackie unpack the dramatic expansion of the childhood vaccine schedule, the historic 1986 law that granted vaccine manufacturers immunity from liability, and what the medical freedom movement is doing today to protect families' rights to informed consent.

Crypto has spent years obsessing over tokens, airdrops, and speculation. But what about the unsexy businesses actually making money? Arthur Hayes and Adam Schlegel join Laura Shin to talk about Maelstrom's $250M private equity fund targeting crypto's most profitable, yet overlooked, companies, $50M revenue businesses with 50% margins that VCs can't touch and exchanges won't pay cash for. But while everyone frames this as just another fund, Hayes and Schlegel argue it's actually the missing piece in crypto's maturation: a cash buyer for founders who've done their time and want out without four-year earnouts. Lenders are keenly interested in Manhattan, especially for office-to-residential conversions, due to low vacancy rates and strong demand dynamics. The team is expecting a strong close to the year with a flurry of transactions, primarily driven by free-market multifamily properties, supported by softening interest rates

The Israelites fully abandon the Lord, leading to 18 years of Ammonite oppression. On the east side of the Jordan, the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half of Manasseh are subjugated. The Ammonites are organized, militarily strong, and expanding their territory. Seeing the crisis, the elders of Gilead call Jephthah from the land of Tob, where he had been exiled. Jephthah, a skilled warrior but born of a marginalized family, is made leader to confront the Ammonite threat. He first attempts diplomacy, sending messengers to the Ammonite king, disputing their historical claim to the land, setting the stage for the battle and the vow that will define his leadership. Highlights: Israel abandons the Lord → oppression begins Ammonites crush Israel, east of the Jordan Jephthah's exile in Tob → rise as mercenary leader Elders of Gilead recruit Jephthah Diplomatic message sent to the Ammonite king Support & Engagement: If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and follow The History of the Bible on your favorite podcast platform. This one has been on our “Mount Rushmore” list from the very beginning. Hans Schlegel finally joins the show, and it's everything we hoped for. From his roots on a family farm in northwest Ohio to eight summers selling books, Hans brings stories of go-kart racing, marching band, zoology, bird study, saving a man's life with the Heimlich, and building a family with his wife Laura and their five kids.We dive into his first summer in Joplin, Missouri, those early “canon events” on the book field, the challenges of finding HQs, the grind of first days, and what made him stick it out. Hans also shares the beginnings of traditions, wild Sizzler lore, and even the origin story of the legendary “Speedo Amigos.”And on top of it all, we talk about the momentum building today around Southwestern alumni — with Hans spearheading the company's official network and Pony Tales launching its independent community. This is the call of the Schlegel's green frog, a frog endemic to Japan. When one of them starts croaking, a call and response begins. The contrast between stillness and movement is beautiful. Recorded in Yokohama, Japan by Tadamitsu Mizuno.
Kritische Fragen an Nationalbank-Präsident, Martin Schlegel.
