Isaiah, Chef and Dan are back as the Philadelphia Flyers have fired their head coach, John Tortorella. We delve into the series of events that lead to the coach's firing, give our feedback on Daniel Briere's press conference and speculate upon what the day's events portend for the Flyers off-season.
17 years, five teams, 812 total career points. Despite his smaller stature, Daniel Briere rose to the occasion of being a star in the NHL. From being put on waivers by the team that drafted him to working out with a Canadian strong man to producing playoff performances on par with All-Time NHL greats, Briere rose to the adversity hockey faced him with. On today's podcast, Justin and Cameron dive into the playing career of Mr. Playoffs and how his tenacity on the ice has prepared him for the toughest challenge he's had to face yet: rebuilding the organization he once called home.

Carter Hart has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the Philadelphia Flyers due to personal reasons, according to Flyers general manager Daniel Briere. Where does this leave the team, who currently stands second in the Metropolitan Division with 56 points and a playoff ticket firmly in hand? Owen Tippett also hits the Flyers' IR with a lower-body injury. How much time will Tippett miss? The Philadelphia Flyers are playing host to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday Night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Lightning are coming into this game with a 24-18-5 record on the season. This team has been having their issues all season; can the Flyers take advantage and get back to their winning ways? The Flyers have hit a little skid here over the last week. They have lost 2 of their last 3 games to the Colorado Avalanche and the Ottawa Senators. Colorado came into the Well and had their way with the Flyers winning 7-4. Meanwhile, the loss to the Senators was a bitter pill to swallow after having a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period before losing 5-3. Is there any reason for concern or are the Flyers just going through the ebbs and flows of an NHL Season? On Thursday the Detroit Red Wings are next up as the Flyers head to the Motor City. The guys are going to preview the 3rd and final meeting in the season series between these teams. The season series is tied at 1 game a piece. The Flyers won the 1st meeting 1-0 in Philly; then the Flyers had a massive comeback only to fall 7-6 in a Shootout in Detroit. Can the Flyers take this game and take the season series between these teams?

The Philadelphia Flyers underwent a massive front office overhaul this summer, as Keith Jones and Daniel Briere took over as the team's two top decision-makers after former GM Chuck Fletcher was let go on the heels of another disappointing season. The selection of Russian star prospect Matvei Michkov won't pay dividends for a few seasons, but as Locked On Flyers' co-host Rachel Donner details, that's just fine. What is the biggest storyline surrounding the Flyers ahead of the season? What was their biggest offseason move? Who is their most important player? Who is a player on the verge of a breakout? And what's at stake if this isn't a successful season for Philly? All that and more on our Locked On NHL Season Preview. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

CONCACAF Gold Cup USMNT scratches out a draw with Jamaica 1-1 –fell behind 1-0, almost 2-0 on a penalty kick but Matt Turner made a save and then they got lucky –Brandon Vazquez with the equalizer in the 88th minute off a bad defensive play Six players made their debuts in official competition: Aidan Morris, Alan Soñora, and John Tolkin, and substitutes Cade Cowell, Jalen Neal and Brandon Vazquez. –they got some Usain Bolt looking dudes on their team…Jamaica looked like they should be good How the hell is Qatar in CONCACAF? -how does Haiti have a team? -we’re in a group with St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tabago…but somehow that’s only two teams….next up St. Kitts and Nevis Wednesday night Jordan Staal signed to a 4-year deal that could? take him to the end of his career The Carolina Hurricanes signed captain Jordan Staal to a four-year contract worth $11.6 million, the team announced Sunday. The forward's new deal includes a no-movement clause for three seasons and a no-trade clause for the final season in 2026-27. Staal, 34, was set to become an unrestricted free agent Saturday. Dundon said (on this show I believe) that it was a certainty they would be keeping him -Now we need to go get another Staal Tony DeAngelo back? Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that it is likely because of some hesitation from the NHL, over potential cap circumvention. DeAngelo was meant to go to Carolina with the Flyers retaining some salary, but since he was traded from the Hurricanes less than a year ago, it raised some red flags. As LeBrun explains, this isn’t exactly a regular situation. The Hurricanes traded him as an RFA, meaning they didn’t sign this contract, and Daniel Briere, the Flyers’ GM, wasn’t in place yet when Philadelphia inked this deal. There’s no real circumvention here, just a player that has worn out his welcome and a team looking to create cap space. The league is expected to meet with both teams in Nashville this week for the draft, where they will have to decide. Either sign off on it early, or force the teams to wait until July 9, when the calendar year since last summer’s trade would be up. College World Series LSU wins game 1, Florida puts up 24 runs last night Championship tonight -guy pitching for LSU best in college baseball…about to pitch for 3rd time in 9 days, over 110 pitches every time -we don’t care how much dudes throw in college Travelers Championship - Keegan Bradley -21 through 3 rounds Rickie Fowler shot a 60 –this was one of those tournaments where you say “ok, maybe the game is too easy for the pros” Goodson will tell you how many strokes you need to make a good score Keegan Bradley faded down the stretch but holding on The Rockies won their weekend set with the Angels with a minus-20 run differential for the series - the 2nd-largest negative run differential for a team that won a series in MLB history (1897 Louisville Colonels won a series vs CHI with minus-23 run diff.). Rockies won 7-4 on Friday and 4-3 yesterday….but lost 25-1 on Saturday
New Philadelphia Flyers GM, and former NHL centreman, Daniel Briere joins the pod! Briere spoke on the transition from his playing career to an NHL front-office, the overwhelming feeling of starting his tenure as GM, and the advantage of having worked his way up within the Flyers organization. Plus, the Ivan Provorov trade, rumours surrounding Laughton and Konecny, and more! In Headlines, the guys discuss an already active off-season, and the many trade considerations ahead of the NHL Draft. Brett Pesce is a hot-topic as the talented defender could be on his way out of Carolina; could the Edmonton Oilers be a fit? Would Connor Brown help round-out the Oilers lineup? Alex Debrincat made his intention to leave the Senators known, and the scoring winger is sure to garner a lot of interest around the league. The guys discuss Debrincat's decision, and Ray cautions teams not to give up too much if they don't already have a playmaker to create offence. Victor Olofsson might be the odd-man-out in Buffalo as the winger notched 28 goals, and has one-year left on his contract. Ray touts the forward's value as someone who can ‘light the lamp'. Plus, Erik Karlsson trade rumours and if it's possible for San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier to offload the (likely) Norris Trophy winner's $11 million salary. Kris Abbott returns from his overseas hiatus, as the trio discuss Betano.ca releasing odds for the 2024 Stanley Cup champion. Kris discusses how bettors can play an early hunch on next year's cup odds, and identifies the favourites after the Vegas Golden Knights cup-win. Plus, golf's US Open and the possible victors after an underwhelming 1st round. Follow us here! This week, the boys talk about the most mediocre goalies to win a Stanley Cup and why it shows most of the time you don't need to overpay a goalie. More front office moves happened, Quebec won the Memorial Cup, and Lyle Richardson of Spector's Hockey talks about the big move Daniel Briere made to kick off his Flyers GM tenure.
Jeff and Elliote look back on the three-team deal between the Flyers, Kings and Blue Jackets, Daniel Briere kickstarting the rebuild in Philadelphia and Ivan Provorov's fresh start. Next, they discuss the pressure on Jarmo Kekalainen, why Columbus trading the third overall pick doesn't make a ton of sense and if the Flyers are taking calls on Carter Hart. To wrap up, they chat about Toronto's potential interest in Hart, the all of a sudden flooded goalie market and New Jersey trying to get a deal done with Timo Meier. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens The Philadelphia Flyers kicked off their new regime under Daniel Briere with a massive trade that sent Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-way deal, while also recouping at least three picks in upcoming NHL Drafts. Given how poor Provorov's last season was, and the return he was able to create for the Flyers, the hosts discuss what this means for the Joel Edmundson trade market, and why Kent Hughes might have put himself in great position before the NHL Draft. Rumblings continued from there for the Flyers, with Carter Hart likely on the move in the relative near future and the Montreal Canadiens seem to be a potential landing spot for the young goalie. Scott and Laura discuss the likely asking price, and whether or not it's a worthwhile bet for the Canadiens with the emergence of Samuel Montembeault. Also, what would it mean for goalies like Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau? Finally to wrap up the show, the hosts tackle some left over listener questions from the mailbag! Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on CanadiensThe Philadelphia Flyers kicked off their new regime under Daniel Briere with a massive trade that sent Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-way deal, while also recouping at least three picks in upcoming NHL Drafts. Given how poor Provorov's last season was, and the return he was able to create for the Flyers, the hosts discuss what this means for the Joel Edmundson trade market, and why Kent Hughes might have put himself in great position before the NHL Draft.Rumblings continued from there for the Flyers, with Carter Hart likely on the move in the relative near future and the Montreal Canadiens seem to be a potential landing spot for the young goalie. Scott and Laura discuss the likely asking price, and whether or not it's a worthwhile bet for the Canadiens with the emergence of Samuel Montembeault. Also, what would it mean for goalies like Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau? Finally to wrap up the show, the hosts tackle some left over listener questions from the mailbag!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/lockedonnhl and when you enter promo code, LOCKEDONNHL, they'll throw in a free custom birddogs Yeti-style tumbler with every order.GametimeDownload the Gametime app, create an account, and use code LOCKEDONNHL for $20 off your first purchase.ebay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. The Philadelphia Flyers have started the overhaul of the organization. They have officially hired Keith Jones as President of Player Operations. This could be a really great move for the organization. He understands the organization, the goals, and what it means to be a Flyer from his playing days here in Philadelphia. The Flyers have also announced that they have removed the interim tag and promoted Daniel Briere as General Manager. Another former player who understands the organization and what the team and fans' expectations are. These gentlemen bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the Flyers Front Office. Has the Rebuild officially started for the Philadelphia Flyers? The Conference Finals are all set in the NHL Playoffs. In the East, the Florida Panthers' Cinderella run continues as they face the Carolina Hurricanes starting Thursday night. The Florida Panthers have shocked the World so far in these Playoffs by knocking off two of the best teams in the East, the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Panthers managed to come all the way back from down 3-1 to the Bruins. As a result, they have carried a ton of momentum since and have been very tough to beat. On the other side, the Carolina Hurricanes have played very good, sound hockey. They handled the New Jersey Devils pretty easily in the previous round, winning in five games. This makes for a very intriguing matchup to see who represents the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Final. Out West, the Dallas Stars, fresh off their exciting Game 7 victory against the pesky Seattle Kraken, will face off against the Vegas Golden Knights. These two teams will face off for the right to represent the West for the second time since 2020. Dallas won that matchup in 2020 and went on to face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals, where they fell to the Lightning in six games. There are definitely a lot more intriguing factors in this series than there are in the East with the style these two teams play. Vegas has a loaded offense that knows what to do with the puck and a lot of high-power offensive players. On the other side, the Stars are a big physical defensive team that knows how to wear teams down. This series will come down to which goaltender will step up and make the big saves when required. Who will rep the conferences in the Stanley Cup Finals?
The boys are back! After some friendly banter to start the pod, they begin discussing the rigged NHL Draft Lottery (3:55), including a peek into the most recent prospect rankings. They then talk about the Flyers new front office management in Keith Jones and Daniel Briere (19:00) before diving into the NHL Awards Finalists (32:48). The gang wraps the episode with a Stanley Cup Playoffs update (50:06). Enjoy the episode and remember to rate and review!

The Philadelphia Flyers play host to the Montreal Canadiens at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers are winners of four of their last five entering this matchup tonight. This team has brought nothing but energy and effort over the last week or so. Most of the players on the roster have been giving that effort all season, but there have been a few surprises. Noah Cates has really stepped up and has proven to be a blue-collar, hard-working forward. Tyson Forrester has proven that he may be ready for the NHL. Since his debut, he has been nothing short of impressive. Carter Hart also has been nothing short of impressive during this stretch, showing a lot of poise and patience in the net, leading to a few wins. Can Hart continue this good play against the Habs Tuesday night? Daniel Briere has made the official announcement that the Flyers are going into rebuild mode. Now because of this, rumors are gonna FLY! There are already a lot of rumors starting up for the summer like the potential trades of Ivan Provorov, Kevin Hayes, and even Carter Hart. The Flyers will need to make moves to add draft capital, and they will also need to figure out what they have already in the pipeline. The fanbase, and more importantly the Front Office, are starting to get some of those answers with the strong play of a good bit of the youth. The Flyers may be in a lot better shape than the fans think, especially when some key players finally return from injury. How far off are the Flyers realistically?

Mach 18, 2023: Around The Horn Podcast on Crier Media brings you its spinoff ATH Sports with Ray Rauth. Ray reviews all the stories he worked on during the week for Crier Media: Earlier this week a video of Mercyhurst University hockey player and son of Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere; Carson Briere was seen pushing a wheelchair down a flight of stairs. Mercyhurst released a statement on the incident, and I asked Twitter what they thought of the response. The answer; people thought it was pathetic. | Last season, casual baseball fans were introduced to New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz, after his entrance went viral across social media. A video of Diaz went viral Wednesday night for all the wrong reasons. In a win-or-go -home game, Edwin Diaz closed out a 5-2 win over the Dominican Republic, sending Puerto Rico to the next round of the World Baseball Classic. Unfortunately, for Diaz, Puerto Rico, and the Mets, Diaz was injured while celebrating the win with his teammates. | Between Wednesday and Thursday I asked Twitter users to vote on the worst fanbase in the AFC East, with 50% of the vote going to Patriots fans. Bills Mafia came in second with 33% of the votes. | Day one of our worst fans in the NFL had the Patriots voted the worst in the AFC East with 49.5% of the votes. Day two of our polls wrapped up Thursday night and Dallas Cowboys fans secured 51% of the votes, officially making them the worst fans in the NFC East. | Day three of our polls has wrapped up and the Cleveland Browns join the New England Patriots as the worst fans in the AFC. | The more the Bills Mafia tastes their version of success, the more sensitive the “hard as nails” table jumpers become. If Bills Mafia is a culture, it's a culture of cry babies that celebrates being the AFC East Champions (The only championship you celebrate is a Super Bowl) Friday, a former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley said what every football fan on the planet knows, and the Bills Mafia lost its mind. The Philadelphia Flyers are entering a new era as Chuck Fletcher has been fired. A majority of the fanbase has been asking for this since last season. Chuck Fletcher has made a number of bad moves to the roster in the last few years that never panned out in making this Flyers team any better or more competitive. Daniel Briere has been named Interim GM in Fletcher's wake. Now Danny has a big mess to clean up; can he bring this organization back to glory? The Flyers will welcome the Pacific Division leaders, Vegas Golden Knights, to the Wells Fargo Center. The Knights sit at 41-20-6 in the Pacific Division. They had some big questions heading into this season with their goalie Robin Lehner not playing at all. Logan Thompson filled in nicely before his injury, and Vegas was forced to go out and acquire Jonathan Quick at the Trade Deadline. Jack Eichel also carried a question mark as he was not very effective after returning from his neck injury. He is having a rebound year, posting 50 points this season. The big question is can they overcome not having Mark Stone in the lineup?

We talked about how much we are just enjoying the Leafs' run, James Reimer's legitimateness, the reasons for Phil Kessel's resurgence, Ron Wilson's job as a coach, the Leafs' playoffs chances, the Tomas Kaberle trade, and, of course, the importance of goaltending, and how much we hate Daniel Briere.
