Gary is interviewed by Darren Doane about what actually happened during the 2023 "Three Questions" controversy. Gary summarizes his view of the whole situation and what he has learned from it. He gives background that is necessary to properly understand the entire conflict, which is essentially an in-house debate between adherents of classic Reformed Theology.
In this interview with Darren Doane, Gary discusses the historical conditions and motivations behind The Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States. David is joined this week by Darren Doane and David Shannon of the Doane Creative Agency for a lengthy, thorough, and challenging talk. If God doesn't exist, then how can you tell a good movie from a bad one? We ask ourselves this while attempting to review EYES FRONT, an extremely stylized feature from prolific music video director turned Christian film auteur Darren Doane. We first learned about Doane from his work on KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS, which Doane directs and co-stars in as a man who is missing the true spirit of Christmas. Doane seems to have an ability to pull more “famous” names than we're usually accustomed to seeing in faith-based features; Michael Madsen stars in EYES FRONT, playing a gritty narrator on the run from the law after he kills his wife in a rage and dumps her body in the trunk of his car. His story is intertwined with the life of another murderer who was clearly inspired by American Psycho and is portrayed by Christopher Stapleton (not to be confused with the singer of the same name.) We also see this character kill out of rage, go on some cynical rants about his ex-girlfriend and how vegetarianism is stupid, and finally lash out once more at his identical twin brother who is a devout Christian. When two murderers and two twins' lives intertwine at a final showdown in a diner, you won't believe what happens next, and the reason you won't is honestly because the story kind of degrades here and it's very hard to gauge what is going on. Despite this, we appreciate a Christian film that is genuinely different than all the others we've watched, especially one that uses swears, including the dreaded “f-word”. Our friend and Christian music expert Josh Martin (Uncomfortable Brunch) returns to the show for the 3rd time to help us give this film some necessary context, especially with regards to its jam-packed soundtrack. In this special holiday episode of Drive-In Double Feature Podcast, hosts Nathan and Ryan explore the festive world of "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas" (2014). Directed by Darren Doane, this unique Christmas film brings a fresh perspective to the holiday season as Kirk Cameron embarks on a mission to save Christmas from the grip of skepticism and doubt. Join us as we unwrap the film's themes, discuss its unconventional approach, and delve into the heart of the Christmas spirit. Discover how "Saving Christmas" aims to rekindle the joy and meaning of the season. Get ready for a yuletide discussion as we celebrate the magic and message of "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas."
Just when we thought Advent was ruined, “Captain Save a Christmas” himself, former child star and current Christian cinema kingpin Kirk Cameron is back with another banger. KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS is just one of a series of docudramas Kirk Cameron helmed in the 2010s. Our favorite is his masterpiece KIRK CAMERON'S CONNECT, a bizarre piece that combines interviews and dramatizations to explore how dangerous the Internet can be to a Christian family. KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS, which was directed and co-written by accomplished music video director Darren Doane, follows a similar formula in its attempt to keep the Christmas spirit alive. We've seen a lot of Christian media arguing that the spirit of Christmas needs aggro maintanence, but this film contains a bizarre point of view that sets it apart from the others. Basically, KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS tries to prove that all of the popular American secular Christmas traditions, from Santa to gift shopping, contain profound religious symbolism and should be observed seriously. Other Christian movies ask, “Whose birthdays is it anyway? Santa's or Jesus's?” whereas KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS reminds us that Santa is a perfect analogue to Jesus and should be supported wholeheartedly. Also, presents represent the New Jerusalem and the Christmas tree represents the Garden of Eden. We thank Kirk Cameron for reminding us that Santa Claus is truly the reason for the season. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) included several changes due to which businesses will face higher taxes. In addition, some of the temporary provisions in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) enacted under the Trump administration are set to get phased out in 2023. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that the total effect of these two developments would result in additional tax increases of $115 billion for businesses. The new corporate minimum tax charges a 15 percent levy on American businesses that make more than $1 billion in book income in a year for three consecutive years. As a result, the average effective tax rate on corporate income is expected to rise from 18.7 percent to 19.3 percent. Around 200 of America’s biggest companies with more than $1 billion in profits are likely to be affected by the corporate minimum tax. They usually pay less than the 21 percent tax typically charged on firms. In addition, the minimum tax rule will also apply to foreign firms that generate over $100 billion in book income in the United States. Companies that meet the conditions under this new tax policy must calculate their taxes in two ways: under the 15 percent corporate minimum tax rule and the 21 percent income tax rule. They must then pay the higher tax. Businesses operating in sectors like mining and real estate are expected to be the hardest hit by this change. The stock buyback tax levies a 1 percent charge on publicly traded firms when they repurchase stocks. Some experts estimate that this tax will end up forcing businesses to maintain more cash on their company books when the money could have gone for investment. Strategists at UBS calculate the two taxes will be a drag on company earnings this year, estimating a 1.5 percent decrease per share in firms listed on the benchmark S&P 500 Index. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/01/24/josh-hawley-to-propose-legislation-banning-tiktok-nationwide/ Josh Hawley to Propose Legislation Banning TikTok Nationwide Sen. Following the revelations that classified documents from President Joe Biden's tenure as vice president were found at the Penn Biden Center think tank and Wilmington, Delaware, Pence's team conducted searches of Pence's Indiana home and the office of his political advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom. According to his team, Pence informed the National Archives on Jan. 18 that a small number of potential classified documents were found in two small boxes. Another two boxes contained copies of vice presidential papers. The National Archives then informed the FBI, per standard procedure. Pence attorney Greg Jacob wrote on Jan. 18 to Acting Director Kate Dillon McClure of the White House Liaison Division National Archives and Records Administration to inform her of the papers "containing classified markings." After the documents with classified markings were discovered, they were immediately put into a safe, according to the Pence team. The documents were collected by the FBI at Pence's home in Carmel, Indiana, on Thursday evening, Jan. 19. Pence was in Washington, D.C., for the annual March for Life when the FBI collected the documents. Pence's team said that although the documents bear classified markings, the Department of Justice or the agency that issued the documents will need to make a final determination on whether the documents are considered classified or not. According to a letter from Jacob to Chief Operating Officer William Bosanko of the National Archives and Records Administration on Jan. 22, the DOJ departed from its standard procedures that it ran with Biden when it requested direct possession of the documents on Jan. 19. Other documents that were not identified as potential classified documents were driven from Indiana to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. No classified docs were found at Pence's Advancing American Freedom office. The House Oversight Committee confirmed to Fox News Digital that Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., was notified by Pence's team Tuesday regarding the discovery of classified documents in his personal residence. Unlike the last time excess deaths reached such levels, during the second Covid-19 wave, few of these deaths could be attributed to the virus. Speaking before the House of Commons on Tuesday, Conservative MP Esther McVey skewered Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty for blaming the spike in non-Covid excess deaths on “patients not getting statins or blood pressure medicines during the pandemic,” pointing out that the monthly figures for statin prescriptions had remained constant. “Where is the evidence? And if there isn’t one, what is causing these excess deaths?” she asked, demanding the minister “commit to an urgent and thorough investigation of the matter.” Labour shadow public health minister Andrew Gwynne described health secretary Steve Barclay as “part man, part ostrich” over his refusal to confront the issue, accusing PM Rishi Sunak’s government of “denial and buck-passing.” “There were 50,000 more deaths than we would have otherwise expected in 2022,” he told the House of Commons on Tuesday. “Excluding the pandemic, that’s the worst figure since 1951.” According to the Office for National Statistics, 2,837 more people died in the second week of January than normal in England and Wales, with just 5% of those deaths being attributable to Covid-19.e The last time excess deaths were so high, during the second week of February 2021, Covid-19 deaths made up 37% of the total. Nor is the statistic an outlier – the last two weeks of December saw 21% and 20% excess deaths. The Royal College of Emergency Medicine reported as many as 500 people a week are dying because they cannot receive emergency treatment in time. A record 54,532 people waited more than 12 hours in emergency departments to actually be admitted to the hospital once the decision was made to admit them, according to NHS data, and only 65% of patients were seen within four hours. Last month, Whitty warned that “postponement of elective and semi-elective care and screening” due to lockdowns and NHS delays would result in another wave of mortality after Covid-19 had largely subsided, with undiagnosed cancers and other chronic conditions claiming a larger than usual number of victims. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-democrats-consider-wealth-tax-people-moved-out-state California Democrats consider wealth tax — including for people who moved out of state California lawmakers are pushing legislation that would impose a new tax on the state's wealthiest residents — even if they've already moved to another part of the country. Assemblyman Alex Lee, a progressive Democrat, last week introduced a bill in the California State Legislature that would impose an extra annual 1.5% tax on those with a "worldwide net worth" above $1 billion, starting as early as January 2024. As early as 2026, the threshold for being taxed would drop: those with a worldwide net worth exceeding $50 million would be hit with a 1% annual tax on wealth, while billionaires would still be taxed 1.5%. Worldwide wealth extends beyond annual income to include diverse holdings such as farm assets, arts and other collectibles, and stocks and hedge fund interest. The legislation is a modified version of a wealth tax approved in the California Assembly in 2020, which the Democrat-led state Senate declined to pass. The current version just introduced includes measures to allow California to impose wealth taxes on residents even years after they left the state and moved elsewhere. Exit taxes aren't new in California. But this bill also includes provisions to create contractual claims tied to the assets of a wealthy taxpayer who doesn't have the cash to pay their annual wealth tax bill because most of their assets aren't easily turned into cash. This claim would require the taxpayer to make annual filings with California's Franchise Tax Board and eventually pay the wealth taxes owed, even if they've moved to another state. California was one of several blue states last week to unveil bills to impose new wealth taxes. The other states were Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York and Washington. Each state's proposal contained a different tax approach, but they all centered around the same basic idea: the rich must pay more. Lee's office didn't respond to a request for comment for this story. However, he's made public statements echoing the message that wealthier residents should pay higher taxes. https://www.facebook.com/CrossPolitic/videos/849469106279608/ - Play 26:41-27:11 Yeah that’s me everyone… and Knox… what the heck? "The working class has shouldered the tax burden for too long," Lee wrote in a tweet. "The ultra-rich are paying little to nothing by hoarding their wealth through assets. Time to end that." According to Lee, the tax would affect 0.1% of California households and generate an additional $21.6 billion in state revenue, which would go to the state general fund. California has among the highest taxes of any state in the country. Advocates argue that the money could boost funding for schools, housing and other social programs. Perhaps more importantly, however, Lee hopes it could help address California's massive $22.5 billion budget deficit. "This is how we can keep addressing our budgetary issues," he told the Los Angeles Times. "Basically, we could plug the entire hole." However, experts counter that the bill will have the exact opposite effect through high administrative costs and by causing an exodus of people to flee the state. According to Lee, the tax would affect 0.1% of California households and generate an additional $21.6 billion in state revenue, which would go to the state general fund. Auto is BIG.You never know where a conversation with Darren Doane will go, but it will keep you thinking long afterwards. Darren is a director, first of music videos and now of documentaries. He's been around many types of business and sees things from outside of the automotive industry. And he is impressed with how big auto is. That makes it able to try things in a way that other industries can't. Today's conversation talks about scrap metal, Newsies and yes, how Michael Cirillo is Seth Rogen's doppelgänger. What we talk about in this episode:0:00 Intro with Michael Cirillo, Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier.4:55 The interview gets off to a strange start, with Cirillo making a Newsies reference and Darren revealing that he actually was an extra in Newsies.9:56 “Let's try it.” Darren's perspective of the retail automotive industry is that it has guts and drive, and the ability to be a little wild and just go for it.16:50 Darren relates retail auto to another business, metal recycling. Both industries are big and see the world as a massive play box. They're not afraid to make big changes and try new things.26:29 Metal recycling is a critical part of everything. Darren shares that 70% of all steel comes from recycled metal. The guys take this zoom-out moment to remember that retail auto is so much bigger than just selling cars.⭐️ Love the podcast? Good morning, this is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News brief for Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. Today, we’ll be talking about the slap heard around the world, at some award ceremony that took place in Hollywood the other night. Ron DeSantis officially signs Anti-Grooming bill into law, otherwise known as the “Don’t say gay bill” according to some of our woke counterparts. And a hospital staff, complain that the phrase ‘Maternity Center’ is not gender inclusive enough for ‘birthing people’... Hey, I’m not a biologist, how would I know?… But first, let’s talk about MacKenzie Scott, giving a record breaking $275 million to Planned Parenthood. https://www.dailywire.com/news/mackenzie-scott-gives-record-breaking-275-million-to-planned-parenthood-will-be-used-to-help-black-women-get-abortions According to the Daily Wire, MacKenzie Scott — the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos — gave a record-breaking $275 million to Planned Parenthood. With a net worth of over $55 billion that arose from her divorce from Bezos in 2019, Scott has given away billions to various nonprofit organizations. A statement from Planned Parenthood Federation of America thanked Scott for her donation, which benefits the abortion giant’s national offices and 21 of its affiliates. Planned Parenthood’s CEO, Alexis McGill Johnson specified that the funding will help to eliminate “racial and structural barriers” — specifically for black women, who would be the most “hurt” by legislation heightening restrictions on abortion. As we all know Planned Parenthood is an incredibly racist organization that would seek to wipe out our black brothers and sisters. The article continues, saying In a Medium post explaining her donation to Planned Parenthood and dozens of other organizations, Scott emphasized “the cause of equity” as a motivation for her giving. Scott added, “It’s easy to think of different groups struggling within the same systems as not only separate, but also opposing,” she wrote. “Yet when we help one group, we often help them all… The dividends of changes in attitude each time disparate groups help each other are harder to trace. But the trend line is clear. Communities with a habit of removing obstacles for different subsets of people tend to get better for everyone.” Planned Parenthood completed 354,871 “abortion procedures” in 2020, according to the organization’s 2020 annual report. The figure amounts to 972 abortions per day and 41 abortions per hour across the United States. Planned Parenthood, based on those statistics, carries out an abortion every ninety seconds. Though America’s 862,000 annual abortions represent the leading cause of death in the United States, Planned Parenthood’s abortions alone would represent the third-leading cause of death, followed by COVID-19, accidental deaths, respiratory disease, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease as of 2020. Planned Parenthood also reported that taxpayer dollars accounted for $618.1 million of Planned Parenthood’s $1.641 billion in revenues — in other words, federal funds accounted for nearly 38% of the organization’s income. Ron DeSantis signed Florida's anti-grooming bill into law Monday after Democrats and Hollywood critics falsely labeled it "Don't Say Gay" legislation. The measure, known as the "Parental Rights in Education" bill, is a classroom instruction ban on age-inappropriate teachings of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" for children in kindergarten through third grade statewide. During the signing, DeSantis fired back at Hollywood elites who have contributed to misconceptions about the legislation protecting elementary school students from activist educators using the classroom as a soapbox for leftist causes. https://rumble.com/vyu911-gov.-desantis-fires-back-absolutely-destroys-hollywood-hypocrites.html -Play full video The bill was mocked at the Oscars on Sunday night, with co-hosts Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall repeating the word "gay" as the crowd applauded. They don't want to admit that they support a lot of the things that this bill provides protections against. DeSantis said the bill's opponents "support sexualizing kids in kindergarten" and "support injecting woke gender ideology into second-grade classrooms." The opposition has even come from the White House with President Joe Biden calling it a "hateful bill" in an early February tweet last month. SHOW TWEET: https://twitter.com/POTUS/status/1491186973511458818?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1491186973511458818%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fthepostmillennial.com%2Fbreaking-ron-desantis-signs-anti-grooming-bill-into-law The tweet reads, "I want every member of the LGBTQI+ community — especially the kids who will be impacted by this hateful bill — to know that you are loved and accepted just as you are. I have your back, and my Administration will continue to fight for the protections and safety you deserve," the president tweeted on Feb. 8. This despite the bill making no mention of the so-called directive "Don't Say Gay." Hospital staff complain ‘Maternity Center’ not gender inclusive enough for ‘birthing people’ https://mynorthwest.com/3400880/maternity-center-gender-inclusive-enough-birthing-people-rantz/amp/ This according to My Northwest dot com. The EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland may change the name of its Family Maternity Center. Some staff claim “maternity” is not gender-inclusive enough for “birthing people” who do not identify as women. According to a memo obtained by the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH, some claim the Family Maternity Center “does not emanate inclusivity.” They argue that “all types of people give birth.” Consequently, the staff at the center are engaged in meetings to come up with a new, more inclusive name. But it’s not without controversy. The memo announcing the name change idea was sent by four EvergreenHealth leaders. They explained that staff members and patients reached out with concern that the Family Maternity Center was too centered on women. This needed to change. Because hey, what is a woman at this point? God has given our nation over to sexual insanity, due to our nation being in such deep sin against Him. The official memo reads as follows: “It has come to Leadership’s attention from both staff and patients that our name, Family Maternity Center, does not emanate inclusivity. All types of people give birth, People who identify as women give birth. People who identify outside the gender binary give birth. People with non-traditional family structures give birth. Not all our birthing patients identify as moms or with maternity care. The healthcare system in general and reproductive health in particular have a long way to go to become truly inclusive of all this variety. How exciting that Evergreen’s core vision is to create an inclusive community health system!” The meeting featured one of the memo’s authors, insane asylum escapee and RN Jacquiline Blanco, taking a leading role. She called the meeting a “brave face conversation,” which she said is the new term for “safe space.” Oh, another definition change. What’s new? According to Blanco’s LinkedIn profile, her goal is to “empower womxn, girls, birthing persons, female-identifying and non-binary folks through the provision of holistic and compassionate women’s healthcare.” It came as little shock when she pushed for the name change. The hospital’s leftwing drift into political positions and woke ideology has, apparently, turned staff off. Some are leaving as a direct result… with one staffer during the meeting suggesting that people don’t want to be a part of this anymore… while another staffer argued that a name change erases a woman’s exclusive ability to birth. Wow… Ya know, after reading a fantasy novel like that, sometimes it’s nice to get back into the real world. Well, our Fight Laugh Feast Magazine is just that place. Finally, the slap heard round the world… At some sort of award ceremony in Hollywood, Will Smith, slapped the crap out of Chris Rock, but we all knew everybody hates Chris, and if you don’t get that joke, we can’t be friends. In any case, by now we’ve all seen it, but I’m going to play it for you now in it’s entirety, so you can judge for yourself. Was this genuine from Will Smith? Or staged… Play Video: (unedited) Will Smith punches Chris Rock -Whole Video Now there are two sides to this… One side, including our very own Waterboy, says, it’s fake! It’s staged! It’s just a way to get more views and attention to the Oscars! And they bring up a fair point… At least 15.3 million people watched Sunday's 94th Oscar Awards, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen, up from 9.85 million people that were counted immediately following last year's show. In the Oscar’s glory days, they’d bring in over 50 million views… so maybe this was a play… But the other side, including our very own Chocolate Knox, and Darren Doane, would argue that this was not staged… that this was years of pent up alpha male energy from Will Smith, the energy of a cuckold, taking all of his frustration, anger, and shame, out on Chris Rock. Will Smith is trying to defend his wife’s honor, from a joke, all the while, his wife is allowed to sleep with other men, whenever she wants, because they have an open marriage… meaning they don’t have a marriage at all. To me, Chris Rock is the scapegoat. Will’s wrath was intended for all of the men who have been with his wife… By the way, if you haven’t seen knox’s most recent Knox unplugged… check it out, because he and Darren Doane, and Marcus Pittman from our friends at LOOR TV, talk about this slap, and unpack the story behind it… The link will be in our show notes, so go check that out. https://www.facebook.com/CrossPolitic/videos/651282205974806 Thanks for tuning into this CrossPolitic Daily News Brief.
