In today's episode I sit down with husband, dad, rider and strong man, David Curtis. David is featured in my favorite Leadville short documentary, Chase The Storm chronicling CrossFit Legend, Rich Fronning as he and David raced for Mayhem Madness. The man, David Curtis just keeps digging deeper and getting faster at the highest, hardest mountain bike race in North America. But David Curtis is far more than a rider and racer. He's a committed father, a dedicated husband, a fearless leader and a deep thinker. In today's conversation we explore parenting, faith, leadership, being a person of color in the ultra marathon world, training for long endurance events in harsh winter climates, motivation and how we can consistently keep our bodies moving for the long haul. This one is raw and real. David is determined to keep showing up each day for the people and pursuits that most matter to him. I'm confident that you'll all find David to be thoughtful, authentic, reflective and committed to leaving this world a better place. Talk about a good human, David Curtis is just that. In the final part of the conversation between David, Colley, and Gabor, the three dive into the contemporary painters they admire and Colley asks David about some of the specific techniques he uses while painting. About the Artist: Born in Doncaster in 1948, David headed an engineering design team until 1988 when he became a full time painter. He was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Arts in 1983 and a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1988. In 1992 David won the first prize in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and the second prize in 1997. Essentially a ‘plein air' and figurative painter, working in both oils and waterclours, he observes transient lighting conditions and effects of atmosphere in his compositions. During this engaging conversation, I had the privilege of chatting with David Curtis, the founder of WeHost Canada and an adept property manager. Our discussion provided a comprehensive overview of the intricate world of short-term rental management, touching on essential strategies and insights for success.David began by sharing his personal evolution, moving from a co-hosting model to establishing WeHost Canada as a prominent property management company. He emphasized the crucial role of transparent contracts and agreements with clients to facilitate effective collaborations and minimize potential disputes. Open communication and setting clear expectations emerged as key practices to ensure a harmonious working relationship.A pivotal shift David discussed was his transition from co-hosting to directly managing properties on his account via a Property Management System (PMS). While acknowledging that industry norms vary across markets, David emphasized the importance of appropriately valuing services. Prioritizing exceptional value and an outstanding guest experience should inform fee decisions. The conversation explored the significance of cultivating a distinct brand identity, particularly within the short-term rental niche. Romans 8 is one of the greatest chapters in the entire Bible. The chapter begins with the freedom we have through Jesus Christ. We are no longer slaves to sin and death, but as Christ-followers, we are truly alive in Jesus. Then, we see God's sovereignty in how He is always working in our lives. As Christians, we should be living and looking more like Jesus. This should bring boldness into our lives. We don't have to live a defeated life, but we can live victorious through the grace and goodness of God. We are never separated from His love!

Sometimes accomplished artists struggle looking back at their early work. But looking at looking at previous pieces has its benefits, including giving you an appreciation for how far you've come. About the Artist: Andy Evansen's interest in art started in childhood, as he can't recall a time when he wasn't drawing. He began painting watercolors in the mid 1990s as a change of pace from his career as a medical illustrator. Choosing a ‘style' was not difficult, as Andy was always inspired by the watercolor paintings of British artists Trevor Chamberlain, David Curtis, Ed Seago and Edward Wesson, among others. He found himself attempting to capture the landscape with the same economy of brushstroke, taking advantage of the luminosity of watercolors done in just a few washes. In addition, he was impressed with the way those artists seemed to capture everyday scenes in such a way that revealed a hidden beauty, subjects that many would simply pass by. The David Curtis Band is based in Cleveland. His new EP Cacophony is amazing. He chose to do the cover of "I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)" because he added his fresh original style bringing a new feel to it. David Curtis brings the ‘live' sound of his band into the studio making you feel like you are right there listening to the band. His tune Don't trust myself loving you, has a fresh, great groove with world class musicians joining him. David Curtis has a new sound and we are excited to present him to our You Just Have To Laugh family.

The Burros travel to Virginia Beach and meet with the pastor of Berean Bible Church, David Curtis to hear his testimony. When David was a young man he was given a bible tract at work one day by a coworker that ultimately changed his life. He began a study of the bible in college and began laboring for the church. Soon he had a crisis of faith when his understanding of certain passages in the scripture didn't line up with his beliefs. Ultimately he chose to allow the bible to change his beliefs and he left the church he was pastoring. As others within the church broke fellowship with him and his family due to his newly adopted views of the scriptures he and a close friend began Berean Bible Church. That was twenty five years ago. We hope you'll listen in to this fascinating and challenging testimony. Become a patron at www.patreon.com/theburrosofberea. Visit our website at www.burrosofberea.com

Jesus calls us to a life of faith. So often we think this life is only about what we can see, but the spiritual realm is unseen. Yet, this is where the miracles happen. When we “live by faith and not by sight,” we are able to “see” with our spiritual eyes the great things God is doing. Never lose the awe and wonder of what God is doing in your life, in His Church, and in our world. Only Jesus can change a heart, heal, redeem, and restore. Our God is at work. Place your life in His hands and trust Him to do great things through you for His glory. Live by faith.

David Curtis, head of global client business at BondIT, is using AI and advanced technologies to gain an advantage in fixed income investing. In this episode, he explains how his growth stage fintech company is managing roughly $500 billion of client money, and identifying the emergence of credit spreads before the rest of the market can cotton on. This appears to be serious bond market innovation. Beyond this, Curtis offers his take on why tech talent is shunning financial services despite the spending power of the banking and asset management giants. For those who invest in credit, and even for those who don't, there is plenty you can take from Curtis's musings.

Top urban planners will be gathering in Christchurch for three days next March to tackle the country's biggest challenges for the coming year. Housing affordability and climate change are key topics. NZ Planning Institute CEO David Curtis told Tim Dower in terms of housing affordability; they're looking beyond normal market forces. He says looking back 20 years, Auckland's Long-Term Plan offered good resolutions to housing and transport issues. “The problem was, again it's still subject to political whim, and we're looking now at how do we work more closely with government as planners around the current RM reform.” LISTEN ABOVE

In 1981 David Curtis was introduced to Leon Weiner by his professor while he was in graduate school - fast forward 40 years later and David is now the Co-Managing Partner of a company that has over 7000 units, of mainly affordable multifamily housing with a few hotels, in over 10 states. “Doing good and doing well is a great thing,” David explains. Helping people have an opportunity that they otherwise may not have is great for both parties. Leon M. Weiner and Associates also provide educational support to their residents through tutoring and scholarships for private schools, trade schools and colleges. They also have a program that offers cultural opportunities for children ages 6-16. Businesses are complaining an expanding public service is adding to their recruitment woes. One example is the Ministry for the Environment, which is two thirds bigger than it was two years ago and now has more than 600 staff. That's mainly down to the huge work programme overhauling the Resource Management Act. The Planning Institute's chief executive David Curtis told reporter Phil Pennington that just a few weeks ago the Ministry was looking to hire more than 60 planners - recruiting from an already limited workforce.

God provides for His people. So often we worry. We wonder if God sees the circumstances we are facing. We all have needs. Yet, God not only sees, but He cares. God provides for all our needs. God takes care of His people every day. He invites us to trust Him and to follow Him. God provides for both our physical needs and our spiritual needs. God gave His only Son, so that we can have eternal life with Him through salvation. There is no need that God cannot, and will not, meet in your life. Are you worried today? Trust God, and know - the Lord will provide.
In this episode David Curtis joins TruthSeekah to speak about his experiences with UFOs and Aliens. David speaks about summoning UFOs and making contact with aliens or interdimensional beings through meditation. David also speaks about how when these experiences come into our lives we also start to see more synchronicities and coincidences that have something important to do with our life's journey. Many people refer this this as being led by our intuition, the holy spirit or even by our guardian angels, it is as if something or someone is guiding us. Strange things begin to happen as our journey unfolds and we draw closer to God we see all things working within our favor. Many people end up coming to similar conclusions as the mystics of old and speak about a "oneness with all things". This "oneness" seems to be reached as well by walking in a level of gratitude where you are thankful for everything in your life, the good as well as the bad. You take nothing personal and you become a victor rather than the victim. This phenomena is very strange but shows us how closely connected we all really are. We see ourselves ending up in very similar places to people who have had complete opposite religious upbringings and beliefs. Once we are able to move past our own dogmas we are able to see that we are not any different from our neighbors and everyone is an extension of ourselves. So with that being said the UFOs and alien phenomena go hand in hand with spirituality and not in a bad way. Many people are starting to feel that these so called aliens or visitors from above are simply what we would call the angels from our own religious texts. This episode shows us that there is something deeper to be found within our experiences because we are not alone and never have been all along.TruthSeekah's Book Spirit Realm: Angels Demons, Spirits and the Sovereignty of God (Foreword by Jordan Maxwell) https://amzn.to/31g9ydRTruthSeekahs Guided Meditation | The Throneroom Visualization https://www.TruthSeekah.com/MeditationsHelp Keep The TruthSeekah Podcast On The Air!⭐️ Become A Patron And Support TruthSeekah
Being “Dad” is a big job! Fatherhood is a blessing. It's also a challenge, and a huge responsibility. It's vital to our families and to our church to have father figures. We're joined in this first part of our three-part miniseries by David Curtis, Worship Leader at our Nolensville Campus, and T. Lusk, Campus Pastor at our Columbia Campus. We're excited to get some great advice from these guys, and some encouragement we get to share with you! HIGHLIGHTS: What types of things do you feel like dads struggle with when it comes to parenting? David: There's a struggle balancing discipline with the life-stages of toddlers and young kids. Is my three-year-old going to be a terror forever, or is this just a phase she's in? There's a balance between knowing when to lean in, and when not to lean in. When does a behavior require discipline, and when do I need to exhibit patience for something that is age-appropriate? T.: I think a lot of dads struggle with patience when their “kingdom” is infringed upon—when they come home and things aren't peaceful, the tv isn't theirs, the house is a mess and the kids are loud. And in that situation, our response is not usually out of grace. What are some things you do with your kids to connect with them, to make lasting memories and impact? David: We try to be intentional to set aside a day of rest. Our kids notice this, that we're focused on God and resting in Him, rather than looking down at our phones or staying busy. We hope to make this a pattern in our home. T.: We try to take our kids on “dates” where they get alone time with both parents throughout a season. And these dates aren't fancy, they can be a trip to Home Depot, but it's time one-on-one with mom or dad. The kids love it and ask for that time. Chase: I try to connect with my daughter by doing what she wants to do in that moment, especially if it's not something that I would normally be the one to do. What encouragement do you have for dads? David: I grew up with a supportive dad—he cared about what I cared about. He leaned into what I was passionate about, worked to understand it, and trusted that God would direct that path. Take the time to support your kids and let them figure their path out for themselves. T.: Slow down, and listen to your kids. Learn what they love so that you CAN lean in and support them along the way. Chase: Model the behavior you want to see. It's your job to model what you want to see in your kids. We care about what they'll grow up to do, but we care MORE about who they're going to become.

The pen is mightier than the laptop when it comes to notetaking. Or so we used to think. Daryl O’Connor, Professor of Psychology at the University of Leeds, breaks the news to Claudia Hammond that one of her favourite studies showing writing notes rather than typing them is best, hasn’t been replicated. Apparently it’s how much you write – on a computer or on paper – that predicts success. There have been more than 1100 entries for the All in the Mind Awards and in the Professionals category, 30 year old Libby, who has an eating disorder, nominates her GP, Dr Celia Belk. They’re now finalists and they tell Claudia about their special doctor-patient relationship. It’s two weeks since the former Minneapolis police officer, a white man, Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, who was black. Millions around the world saw the distressing film of his killing but researchers in Utah in the US decided to measure, using big data, how much hearing about racist killings like this, affect the mental health of black Americans. Dr David Curtis tells Claudia that his team selected 49 high profile cases of either police killing black people, a failure to indict officers accused of such killings, or white supremacist murders. And the results show worsening mental health for black, not white, Americans in weeks where there are two or more of these high profile cases. And Daryl O’Connor also reports on another American study, this one from the emerging area of research into micro-aggressions – denigrating somebody because of their ethnicity by micro assaults, micro insults and micro invalidations. This research shows exposure to microaggressions is linked to worse PTSD symptoms. Produced in association with The Open University Producer: Fiona Hill
As Covid cases surge almost beyond belief in India, how much is to do with social distancing, and how much to do with the mutations to the original virus? Ramanan Laxminarayan talks to Roland from Delhi about ways in which the huge second wave could and could not have been predicted and avoided. Suggestions of the latest variant to make the headlines, B1.617, have got virologists such as Ravindra Gupta working hard to identify the clinical significance of the latest combinations of mutations. In the journal Science, Stephen Chanock of the US Cancer program reports work with colleagues in Ukraine looking at the long footprint of radiation dosing from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, 35 years ago this week. In the first of two papers, they find a definite footprint of radiation damage accounting for the many sad cases of thyroid cancer in people alive in the region at the time. But in another study, they looked at whether any higher level of mutations could be detected in the germlines of children conceived subsequently to parents who had experienced radiation in the disaster. While the parents' own health is often affected, 35 years on, thus far their offspring show no widespread elevated levels of disease, as was commonly expected. And in the week that the world witnessed a guilty verdict delivered in the trial for the murder of George Floyd in the US, David Curtis of the University of Utah and colleagues report in the journal PNAS a study that suggests the widespread media coverage of acts of racial violence, including deaths at the hands of police, leads to poorer mental health in Black Americans. As the BBC’s Samara Linton reports, the study involved google search data over five years up to 2017, and nearly 2.3 million survey respondents. Also, most of us don’t like to dwell on our toilet habits, but this week we have gone down the drain to discover what wastewater can tell us about our health. It’s been more than a year since scientists across the globe started to track the spread of Covid-19, with help from home test results and hospital data. Marnie Chesterton investigates the latest tool in their arsenal: sewage. Listener Kevin has heard how human waste can be monitored to check for virus levels, and wants to know if it can also be used to stop the disease in its tracks? Although the coronavirus has been discovered in people’s poo, so far there’s little indication it’s actually being spread through the water system. But by taking regular samples from different parts of cities, authorities are now able to accurately predict a local peak weeks before the population shows signs of sickness, then take immediate measures to alert them. In Detroit we hear how environmental engineer Professor Irene Zagoraraki used this method to detect a rare strain of Herpes which doctors didn’t even know was a potential problem. We talk to Professor Nick Thomson from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, who sequenced the genome of the bacteria that causes cholera, to understand how it has crisscrossed the globe. He discovered that the pandemic currently devastating Yemen actually originated in Asia. It’s a discovery that has changed how the WHO is thinking about this killer disease and could have important implications for vaccination programmes. But our effluent can also pose environmental problems, and Professor Andrew Johnson from the UK’s Centre for Ecology and Hydrology explains there are now as many as 300,000 chemicals that could threaten natural habitats. While authorities try to test each one individually, he’s concerned they may have different effects when they mix in wastewater, and current monitoring systems don’t take this into account. Not only that, but some of these substances contain silver nanoparticles, which Professor Juliane Filser tells us stick around in soil for ever, threatening organisms and bacteria at the base of the food chain Image: NurPhoto/Getty Images

Neither of us knew the "disaster twink" archetype going into this episode, but we're so glad we do now -- and if you don't either, or even if you do, then this conversation about TJ Klune's recent YA novel THE EXTRAORDINARIES is definitely for you. We chatted with TJ about queer YA in general, as well as the exciting things happening there, as well as about the nuanced delights that await in THE EXTRAORDINARIES, including an important discussion of friends and friend groups, the relationship protagonist (and disaster twink) Nick has with his dad, the importance of genre savviness and fan fiction, and more. It was a great time, so come along with us! Bonus: If you enjoy our chat about THE EXTRAORDINARIES' cover, stay tuned for Episode 129, in which we talk with David Curtis, the cover designer of this and many other recent books. By Sydney Hitchcock Transcript: Sydney: Not many people when asked about the War of 1812 could tell you why the war was fought, who was involved, or about any of the key battles. Some may recall that the White House was burned and that at some point in our country’s history the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner must have been written, but few could tell you that both of these events occurred during this War. The War of 1812 was the United States of America’s first chance to flex its newly independent muscles. Tired of being pushed around by the British in the Atlantic and to the North, the United States wanted to make it clear - the British were no longer welcome on their soil. It is no surprise that most people who are not historians have never learned about the Battle of Lake Erie, which is known as the turning point of the War of 1812. Fought between the British and the U.S. over control of Lake Erie, this battle was the first major naval victory the U.S. had ever won against the Royal Navy. Control of Lake Erie meant the U.S. no longer had to fear invasion by British forces from the North and could prevent the British from penetrating the ever-expanding middle of the country. This gave the U.S. more control over communication and trade during the remainder of the war, which allowed an eventual victory. Take that King George, this will teach you not to mess with an independent country – you power hungry tyrant! My name is Sydney Hitchcock and I will be your host for today’s Hurstories podcast on the Battle of Lake Erie. Sydney: The Battle of Lake Erie began at daybreak the morning of September 10th, 1813. The battle took place between the United States Navy, under the command of Captain Oliver Hazard Perry and the British Royal Navy, under the command of Captain Robert H. Barclay. The two fleets met in Put-In-Bay Ohio, where the battle was fought. Sydney: That morning, the American fleet which consisted of nine vessels in total and 416 crew members fit for duty set sail towards the approaching six British vessels. Perry commanded a squadron that consisted of three Brigs, the Lawrence, the Niagara, and the Caledonia, five schooners the Ariel, Scorpion, Somers, Porcupine, and Tigress, and one sloop called the Trippe. The British squadron was made up of six vessels, two ships the Detroit and Queen Charlotte, one brig the Hunter, two schooners the Lady Prevost and Chippeway, and one sloop the Little Belt.[1] Despite the United States having more ships, the British had the advantage of having more experienced commanders.[2] Barclay who was commander of the Detroit had the best guns, which were more accurate when hitting their target.[3] During this period the strength of the Royal Navy was known throughout the world. Their experience having been perfected over centuries spent colonizing foreign lands and controlling overseas trade routes. Sydney: Before the battle began Perry’s, strategy was to pair each of his vessels to a British ship; for example, the brig Niagara was supposed to mainly fight against Britain’s Queen Charlotte. Depending on Barclay’s tactical formation, Perry would change the American battle line so his ships would stay with the ships he had assigned them to fight against.[4] Man voice: “At daylight discovered the Enemy’s fleet in the NW. Made the signal immediately to the Squadron to get underway-“[5]. Sydney: As the fleets sailed towards each other the Detroit was the first to fire, shooting a long 24 which missed Perry’s advancing ships. Their second fire was more successful than the first, hitting its mark which was Perry’s brig, the Lawrence. The Lawrence in response fired her long 12’s and carronades at the British fleet but was unsuccessful in hitting her intended targets. [6] Naval vessels during this period were outfitted with different types of cannons, which were mounted on their decks and poked out of windows that looked like eyes on the sides of the ship so that they could fire cannon balls toward their enemies. The “longs” were more slender cannons, and shot different weight cannon balls like 12 and 24 pounds, but were not very accurate. The carronades were squat and able to shoot heavier cannon balls capable of doing more damage because they were more accurate. (maybe dramatic pause) Sydney: As the battle progressed, the Lawrence continued to take the majority of the hits from the enemy, while Perry’s other Brig the Niagara commanded by Captain Jesse D. Elliott, stayed out of fighting range. The Niagara only shot long range shots towards its assigned ship the Queen Charlotte, refusing to come closer. Confused by this tactic and unable to get into range to hit the Niagara, the Queen Charlotte turned her focus to helping the Detroit battle the Lawrence. The Lawrence was now taking an even larger number of shots and still had yet to hit the British forces. It took the Lawrence twenty minutes until it successfully hit one of the British vessels.[7] Not known for their maneuverability, it often took hours for the captains to get these vessels into good positions to fight. This was often made even more difficult by weather conditions. You can only imagine how chaotic this scene must have been and how fearful you would be if you were a soldier on one of these ships. Fighting vessels bobbing around like bath toys on the lake, huge explosions accompanied by bursts of fire and loud noises, as cannon balls either connected with a target – not necessarily the one they were aiming at – or landed with loud splashes in the water around the battle. Sydney: By 12:20 the Lawrence had moved into close proximity of the British vessels fighting in closer range. Despite having Commander Oliver Perry as their captain, the Lawrence could not make up for the fact the American crews were less experienced than the British. Because of their inexperience they overloaded their carronades sometimes causing them to overheat or burst. Too much weight on one side of the ship would also cause the ship to become off balance, meaning its cannon’s aim would become even less accurate. At the end of the battle line, long range action took place between the Somers, Tigress, Porcupine, and Trippe all on the American side, while the Lady Prevost fought against them on the British side. The Lady Prevost was suffering a great amount of damage from the long guns of the American forces, causing her to fall leeward. Supporting the Lawrence at the front of the battle was the Scorpion, Ariel, and Caledonia fighting in close quarters with the Detroit, Queen Charlotte, Hunter, and Chippeway. Both sides were taking heavy hits and great losses. The Lawrence took the most number of hits and lost over four fifths of its crew, being either wounded or killed.[8] Male voice: “every brace and bowline was shot away, and the brig almost completely dismantled; her hull was shattered to pieces, many shot going completely through it, and the guns on the engaged side were by degrees all dismounted”.[9] Sydney: Yet, Commander Perry refused to surrender, determined to win against the British and take control of Lake Erie. Sydney: Noticing that the Niagara had yet to engage in the fight and was practically unharmed, Perry decided to abandon the Lawrence and use the Niagara as his relief ship.[10] Before leaving the Lawrence, Perry took down his private flag which read Don’t Give up the Ship, which he took with him onto the Niagara.[11] The Niagara had yet to fire her carronades, so Perry sent Elliott back to bring up the three schooners and turned the Niagara towards the British fleets.[12] Sydney: At 2:45 the schooners that Perry had sent Elliott back to bring up had caught up with the Niagara and together the vessels broke through Barclay’s line.[13] As the Niagara sailed passed the Lady Prevost, captain Perry witnessed the crew of the Lady Prevost run below deck from fear of the Niagara, while their brave commander Lieutenant Buchan remained on deck. He had been shot through the face, Perry seeing this immediately ceased fire at the Lady Prevost.[14] Sydney: The Detroit and Queen Charlotte by this point had very little left to fight against the practically new Niagara. On the opposite side of the Niagara the America’s Caledonia and schooners fired at the other sides of the Detroit and Queen Charlotte.[15] Sydney: By 3pm with nothing else that they could do, the British raised their flag and surrendered to Perry. The Chippeway and Little Belt began to flee the battle but were captured by the Trippe and Scorpion forcing them to surrender as well, ending the battle of Lake Erie.[16] Sydney: That evening Perry would write one of the most famous lines from the Battle of Lake Erie in his after-action report: Male Voice: “We have met the enemy and they are ours.”[17] Bibliography Dudley, William S. In this second episode of Organic Matters, I interview David Curtis, director of the newly released film called Sovereign Soil. This film takes viewers on a journey through the beautiful northern landscapes surrounding Dawson City, Yukon, through the eyes of the people and farmers that call that place home. While we attempted to centre our conversation around his film, we couldn't help but dive deeper into the issues that the film presents: northern food security, food sovereignty, agriculture, climate change, and both Indigenous and settler relationships to land.
In this PleinAir Podcast with Eric Rhoads, you’ll be inspired by David Curtis, who is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Essentially a "plein air" and figurative painter, working in both oil and watercolor, he is the author of numerous books and has work in collections all over the world.

This episode shows us that there is something deeper to be found within our experiences because we are not alone and never have been all along. Musicerandet blir ett samtal, förklarar Mattias Hjort. ome months ago New Yorkers enjoyed an opportunity to hear a gifted young American pianist, Thomas Nickell play Mozart's Concerto in A Major, K. 414 and a new concerto by a living English composer, David Matthews, supported by a splendid chamber orchestra in the best English tradition, The Orchestra of the Swan, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, conducted by its founder, David Curtis. They received an especially warm response from their sold-out hall, and they have every reason to come back. This will occur in early June 2018. Meanwhile you can listen to David Curtis talk about chamber orchestras, The Orchestra of the Swan in particular, and English music, which, I believe has been rather neglected on these shores in recent years. The post David Curtis, Music Director of the Orchestra of the Swan, talks to Michael Miller appeared first on New York Arts.

We finally did it! After a few months of talking about it, moving the date around, and bailing at the last second (sorry), I sat down with most of the Take Luck drift team and got some answers to some hard hitting questions. Questions like: when did you start drifting? What would you drive if budget wasn't an issue? And how does one join the team. Take Luck is Nick Stucky, Brandon Wicknick, David Curtis, Scott Bradshaw, Nate Omana, and Erik Brooks. Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com Podcast-Jake here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media purchased a brand new Harley Davidson Street Glide Special (FLHXS) in early April of 2015 from a local Harley Davidson dealership. He traded in his 2012 Road King to make this purchase. I wanted to put this podcast & article out for our entire Law Abiding Biker Community or anyone else who may be considering purchasing this motorcycle. Harley Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System! 3 Must See videos on everything you need to know on how to operate the new Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. Don't be frustrated, I will show you how. TUTORIAL VIDEO-Complete Harley Davidson "Boom Box" Infotainment System GPS Stereo Tutorial TUTORIAL VIDEO-Harley Davidson Boom Box Infotainment Software & Map Update Tutorial TUTORIAL VIDEO-Complete Harley Davidson Ride Planner & GPS Guide He ended purchasing the vivid black colored model, which costs less than a model with other custom colors. The 2015 Street Glide Special sports the air cooled 103” cu in V-Twin High Output Motor (1690 cc). There is also an integrated oil cooler. This 103 cu in V-Twin now comes stock with the 255 cam kit already installed. The 255 cam offers substantial increase in low-end torque. He has has been very impressed with the performance of this motor and it is a runner for sure. It is awesome to have that extra power at take off and when passing for certain. This bike really gets up and goes and feels extremely smooth. The 2015 Street Glide Special comes stock with a hydraulic clutch, 6 speed Cruise Drive transmission, of course the 6 gallon fuel tank, and the bike weighs in at 818 lbs. The motor has Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The engine is said to get around 42 miles per gallon combined city/highway and we have found that to be accurate. The 2015 Street Glide Special sports beautiful stock black Enforcer Cast Aluminum wheels on front and back. The front wheel is 19 inches and has a Dunlop D408F 130/60B19 tire, while the rear wheel is 16 inches and has a Dunlop D407T 180/65B16. The tires handle well and you can drag floorboards all day long around corners! The gauges on the dash now run along the top, making room for the 6” touch screen Boom Box Infotainment System below. Check out our #1 Ranked Boom Box Tutorial Video!. The system is pretty awesome, but there is a rather steep learning curve. We teach you everything you need to know on how to operate the new system and how to keep your software up to date, which is critical. The speedometer and tachometer are 10% larger and have 68% wider numbers. It has a 28% larger fuel and volt gauge with 30% wider numbers. The display features odometer, trip A, trip B, range to empty, and gear indicator. All the gauges are beautifully backlit. On the left handlebar controls on top is a trigger switch (odometer, trip A, trip B, and range to empty). Also on the left handlebar controls is a switch to operate voice commands via a headset to the Boom Box Infotainment System. The cruise control is now solely operated by a joystick and has been moved to the left handlebar controls. Now you can rock the throttle back with your right hand and set the cruise with your left. This was a very nice change. On the right handlebar controls is an information switch to display ambient temperature, oil pressure and whether your engine idle temperature management system (EITMS) is enabled. This is all displayed on the large 6” Boom Box Infotainment System Screen. These are all new ergonomic hand controls and include joysticks on each side to control all the functions of the Boom Box Infotainment System and cruise control. I can tell you that everything to operate the electronics is right at your fingertips and feels great! The inside of the fairing is beautiful on the 2014 Street Glide Special and is painted in an eye catching gloss black finish. This really completes the inside of fairing and makes it stand out. Of course the new front fairing vent or "wind tunnel" is a huge new addition to the 2014 Street Glide Special. You can close the vent by a large button on the upper left inside of the fairing. This new vent is placed there to reduce head buffeting, which it does. Essentially the air rushes through the fairing vent and shoots a wall of air straight up in front of you in order to slow the oncoming air. This is my assessment of how it operates. I have tested this vent "wind tunnel" in all different conditions and at many different speeds. My personal estimation is that it reduces head buffering by about 25-30%. The only time I can see that I would close the vent is during extremely heavy rains or hail. I have opened it and closed on very cold mornings and nights and it does not seem to matter. The only downfall to the new fairing vent is that you would not want to install inside fairing storage pouches on your dash, as it would block the wind tunnel, but I believe the trade off is well worth it. The FLHXS comes standard with dual front brakes, ABS, and the new linked braking system they call the Reflex Braking System. Essentially in an emergency stop, not only do the ABS brakes kick in, but if you apply too much front or rear brakes, the sensors within recognize this problem and even out the braking pressures. This all results in very quick braking in an emergency. New Patrons: Carl Lingelbach of Appolo, PA Robert Henze of Walden NY If you appreciate the content we put out and want to make sure it keeps on coming your way then become a Patron too! There are benefits and there is no risk. The beautiful thing is that the linked braking system does not kick in until 20-25 mph. This is super important for motorcycle law enforcement officers, who do a lot of low speed aggressive maneuvers and have to use the rear brake a lot while doing so. On other brands of bikes that had similar linked type brakes, they activated even at very low speeds, making the slow speed maneuvers much more difficult for the police motorcycle officer. This of course goes for anyone who practices or knows how to perform aggressive slow speed maneuvers. Harley Davidson really thought this one out! A few other things worth mentioning are the restyled hard saddle bags with a one touch design latch, dual halogen headlight, 49 mm telescopic front forks, stiffer triple clamps, larger steering bearings, low profile front fender, Jukebox media compartment with a USB connection and one touch access door, and of course the Harley Davidson Factory Security System with hands free security fob. All these additions and changes have made an awesome riding 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special. The bike is tight, smooth, fast, and powerful. It corners like a dream and it is even hard to tell how fast you are going unless looking at the speedometer. That is how smooth this bike runs. The new Boom Box Infotainment System with integrated GPS is just what I was calling for. The audio system sounds great and can be heard fine, even at freeway speeds. The only thing we did to the bike for now is install an aftermarket EFI tuner and replaced the stock mufflers with Vance and Hines Dresser Twin Slash Rounds slip on mufflers. We have a free video on removing/installing aftermarket exhaust. We also have a free tutorial video on installing a Stage One Air Intake and installing a Dyno Jet Power Commander V EFI tuner, which we will be doing eventually. Just when you think there is nothing more Harley Davidson can do to make their bikes even better, they knock it out of the park! Well done Harley Davidson and you should be very proud of this bike!
