I decided to contact Inês because I'd been listening to her podcast, Your voice matters, for a while. I was even more excited to discover that the first episodes were in Portuguese, because it means I have some more interesting content to listen to that will help me improve my Portuguese and learn about other voice-related topics! But originally, our interview wasn't going to be about that. I wanted to talk about voice coaching. We covered topics such as getting used to hearing your own voice and practising how you want to sound before you actually speak in public. Also, how we can use our voice to communicate our personality, even if we're feeling nervous about the language. We can adopt vocal habits in another language that aren't ours and it's liberating when we learn to move past this.We also discuss why Inês decided to start a podcast, why she switched the language after the first two seasons, how she did it, what the process was like for her, and what advice she would give to people who are thinking about creating content in another language.I also love one of the things that Inês said at the beginning when we were talking about her career journey. Deciding to work with a coach or trainer doesn't have to be because you have a problem. It can also be because you want to do something better!I decided to contact Inês because I'd been listening to her podcast, Your voice matters, for a while. The Dog-man calls him "Master" and swears his fealty to him. The two, as Prendick knows he needs an ally, make their way towards the sound of other Beast Folk outside. Prendick asserts the power of Moreau again, and manages to convince some of them that "the Law" and "The House of Pain" live on. 10 months go by during which nothing, he says, happens. He says that he is constantly on watch for the Hyena-Swine and is grateful for his Dog-man's protection. After 7 months, the Beast Folk, as warned by Dr Moreau, gradually lose their ability to speak and walk on the hind legs. It happens as a slow but steady rate, and Moreau hardly notices the change in the man at his side to the dog at his feet. Prendick's hair grows long and his clothes fall to ruins, and he starts to become more alert, aware of the animal-ness of the creatures. He realises that the Beast Folk will forget his authority and overpower him and he decides that he needs to escape, and find a boat...Support the Show.Thank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/IsaacBirchallvoKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

While in this state he decided to share his brandy with M'ling and the other beast folk. Prendick refuses to join them and is against the idea of sharing alcohol with the beast folk. This frustrates Montgomery and when Prendick says that he is going to try and leave the island on the dingy he leaves in a huff to drink. As Prendick searches for supplies, he hears a bunch of noise from the beach and then a gunshot. At this he rushes out of the house and breaks some glass on the way. He finds that the party of Beast Folk and Montgomery have been attacked and have been left for dead. Montgomery is only just alive, and soon breaths his last breath. Prendick finds a bunch of broken wood on the beach and knows it to be the dingy and to add the cherry on top, he finds that the glass he broke was the lantern, which has now set fire to the Houses and lab of Moreau.Support the Show.Thank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/IsaacBirchallvoKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

They move off and come to find a mangled rabbit, and run immediately to inform Moreau of the issue. After looking around, and seeing who is missing, Moreau blows the horn again prompting the remaining few to show themselves. It seems that he has been using all of his knowledge of science and physiology to change the shape of animals into humanoids. Then through a course of horrific mental harm to these creatures, he has forced them to talk. What he finds to be his largest problem is that there is an innate bestial quality in these creatures that slowly creeps back in, leaving the creatures eventually nothing but animals in human form. Once ashore, the boxes and animals are unloaded from the ship, and they are joined by a greyhaired 60 year old man. He greets Prendick well, and though he is a mysterious, he seems to welcome Prendick to his island. The unloading of the boat continues, and eventually, Prendick is brought some food and after consuming this, he helps Montgomery unload a couple of rabbits which are released into the wild.Support the showThank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/isaacbirchall98Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

He runs right upstairs, and finds the ship being unloaded of Montgomery's cargo, and several large weird men helping. The Captain is barking orders and yelling that he is never going to help Montgomery and his island again. Prendick makes his presence known, and the Captain screams that he needs to go too. A debate starts, with Prendick pleading with both the captain and Montgomery to let him stay with either of them, but no one is budging. Defeated, Prendick goes off until the unloading is complete. When everything is unloaded, Montgomery's ship is cut loose, and the captain and his crew fight Prendick over to the dinghy where he too is cut loose.Support the showThank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/isaacbirchall98Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

It seems to Prendick that Montgomery really misses his life back in London and he starts to wonder what could have driven him away from a life he so loved. As they talk longer, Montgomery's tongue begins to loosen, and he lets slide some info that peaks Prendick's interest, but Montgomery doesn't want to talk further. Prendick then notices the weird attendant and he gets a really strange feeling when looking briefly into his eyes. Once on the deck, the dogs start barking again and Prendick notices not just the Puma, but a llama in a cage that is far too small for it. The strange man then comes up onto the deck, followed quickly by the captain who huts him to the ground with the dogs. Montgomery runs to the captain and berates him for his behaviour, but the captain doesn't care for what he has to say. It seems to Prendick that this row has been building up for a while. They continue to fight, and eventually Prendick steps in, but all he does is wind up in the middle of it.Support the showThank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/isaacbirchall98Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

A large man with lank hair is sitting in font of him seemingly waiting for him to wake up. Prendick asks where he is and how he ended up there, and the man informs him that he was involved in a shipwreck and was half dead when the schooner found him. The man mentions that he is lucky that the boat he landed on had a medical professional onboard and claims that he nursed Prendick back to health while giving him a tonic with a distinctly metallic taste. While talking, a Noise from the upper deck like a Roaring animal calls down to the men, and a quarrel of dogs starts up causing the “medical man” to excuse himself and violently quieten the dogs and whatever it was that is roaring. On his reappearance, Prendick asks if he should be well enough for real food, and the man, called Montgomery, says that the cool should be preparing some mutton for him this very moment. They continue to talk for a while before the Roaring animal starts up again. After several days voyage, Prendick is finally well enough to head to the upper deck and take some air. On the deck, he and Montgomery discuss their destinations, and Montgomery informs Prendick that he will be getting off before the end of the voyage to go to his private island in the middle of nowhere. Support the showThank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*SHOPIFY: https://the-essential-reads.myshopify.com/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/isaacbirchall98Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

Speak English Now Podcast: Learn English | Speak English without grammar.

Hi, everybody! I'm Georgiana, your online English teacher. My mission is to help you to speak English fluently. Speaking English is way easier when you use the right material and techniques. Since it's September, we're going back to school. At least in this episode, you will remember how exciting it used to be to start a new school year. We're going to check out vocabulary related to the school supplies that kids need when they go back to school, after the summer vacation. And in the second part of this episode, you'll learn English grammar without studying any rules with an exclusive point of view story. Before I go any further, I'd like to thank you for listening. Did you know that there are over 10 million downloads of the Speak English Now podcast? I'm very excited because that means that my method really helps you improve your English speaking and listening skills. Thanks again for listening and remember to share the podcast with your friends and family.   All right, let's get started!   We could use the expression "back to school" as a metaphor for this episode that kicks off this new season. You will continue to improve your English skills with my mini-stories and point of view lessons. But don't worry because you don't have to study or memorize anything, just listen and learn as children do with their mother tongue.   Each year, parents face significant challenges when purchasing school supplies for their children. Since there's a wide range of vocabulary related to this topic, next week, I will continue talking about the same thing, though I’ll introduce more vocabulary. In any case, don't worry if you can't remember everything.  You can listen several times to learn new words and expressions. Well, here we go: Notebooks Basically, a notebook is made up of several sheets of paper which are joined together. Notebooks can be handy to use in the classroom. You can write exercises, copy things the teacher writes on the board, etc. In some cases, instead of notebooks, you simply use sheets of paper. The advantage of sheets of paper is that you don't carry so much weight. The disadvantage is that you can easily lose them. I remember that in the first year of high school, I started with notebooks, but in the second year, I only used sheets because the notebooks weighed a lot.   Clips But if you want to organize the sheets of paper a little better, you can use some clips. Really a very useful invention.   Pens, pencils, and eraser. Obviously, if you want to write, you're not going to do it with your finger. A pen is a good choice. The disadvantage of the pen over the pencil is that you can't erase what you write. On the other hand, if you write something down with a pencil, you can easily wipe it with an eraser. Many students like to use different colors of pens. The most common colors are black, blue, and red.   As for pencils, most students use mechanical pencils. If you use classic pencils, you need a sharpener, also called a "pencil sharpener." That's how you sharpen your pencil.   Felt-tip pens Felt-tip pens are like pens but are usually available in a variety of colors. They have many uses, from painting to highlighting. We don't generally use them for writing, although some children may like doing that. Teachers use red markers to correct exams.   Marker When you study a text and find a relevant phrase, what you want is to remember it. You can use a marker for this. There are markers in several colors, so you can always create categories. In my opinion, you don't have to overuse colors, because otherwise, you leave the text like a rainbow. :) If you don't have markers; what you can do is underline. Underlining is simple. You just have to make a roughly straight line below the text you want to stress. You can do it with a pencil or a "pen." I like to underline more than to mark, and I almost always do it with a pencil. This way, if I have underlined too much, I will still be able to erase those parts.   Ruler Do you want to make straight lines? It' s almost impossible to do it without a tool. You need a ruler for that, and it's gonna be useful, especially in your geometry class. READ the TEXT here: speakenglishpod.com

Session 06 What happens when you leave a comfortable school that fits you and feels like home, and transition to a large school where the premed culture is toxic? Meanwhile, check all our other podcasts on MedEd Media Network for more premed resources! [01:20] Caller of the Week: "I am premed, who studied at a community college. English is my second language and being in community college felt like home. There was not many premeds, no competition, cutthroat, or any of struggles that we go through for going to big university like where I am right now. At community college, I then struggled with comparing myself with others. I have a couple of premed friends. We always work together, help each other, and it felt like home. Right now, I transferred to a university and it's one of the biggest universities in the U.S. I started my first semester, this semester on campus. And it's been a great self-transition. As a Junior premed, there were many students compared to my community college. One of the biggest struggles is studying with other premeds and hearing them discussing their scores on exams, who got A and did not study as much, or those students who ask questions at lecturers and like, "I don't even know what you're talking about." It's been very tough. I know everyone struggles with different things but being surrounded by students who always get As, not really struggling, or at least, not showing that they're struggling. I spend hours on studying and trying to understand what's going on, especially as Englis is my second language. Sometimes, it's just hard to memorize a bunch of stuff in English. And sometimes, they need double the time that regular students who have been here and English is their first language, being easier on them but not me. I guess, I'm just trying to not compare myself to others. But being in this environment, it's much harder. Today, after my exams, I decided not to stick around and just go to my car. I didn't want to talk to anyone, neither before or after the exam. I didn't want to hear students saying I got an A's, I did not study. Oh this test was easy or that I wasn't ready. I didn't want to compare myself to them because I have my own struggles. I'm trying to overcome them. So I guess it's the premed world. Many people just say yeah, it's easy. But it's not really easy, especially if you're jumping from community college to a university. And it's a totally different environment. Almost everyone in my class is a premed. I know some of my classmates are struggling like me, while others find it easy. I don't know what else to do other than just walk away from those people or try to focus on me, my self-care, and trying to do my best. Because I know, probably the hours I'm spending learning this information, I'm actually learning for the long-term, not only for the test. And learning, from each struggle, something. Whether it's like how to study for a test or I should not leave all this stuff for the night before the test, or just learning from those trials and improving myself, while other people are not really learning from their struggle. I guess that's what's going on today." "Thank you so much for providing this collaborative environment. I listened to the first episode and it helped me a lot because I always feel stressed out and many of my family and friends are not really understanding what's going on, especially with the transition. It's not as easy as people might think. People shouldn't say that community college is much easier than a university. It's not. I study at a community college as well but I didn't really struggle with comparing myself to others. I struggled more on trying to understand and study the new material and new language and new environment." [07:17] Community College vs. Universities Switching from a community college to a university is really a hard transition. And when you feel like you have a family and you're comfortable and if you feel have friends and then you have to change to a big system where it feels scary and you don't have that collaboration anymore. It's really hard! It's nice to have that feeling of having a family in that community college as opposed to a cutthroat environment in large universities. Unfortunately, there's still that likelihood of competition. Don't care about people talking about how much they've studied and them sharing their grades. That can be bothersome. It just makes other people feel bad. Maybe people like to sit around and share about their grades because it gives them some kind of feeling of boosting themselves up. But it's a disservice to everyone. And who knows if people doing that are really honest. They might just be saying that, but the truth is they're insecure and they want to make themselves better than other people. So they say things that are not even true. "Sitting around and comparing your grades is just so not helpful. It makes everyone around just feel nervous and feel anxiety." In fact, we call these people "goners" because they tend to just talk about how easy it is and how great their scores are and the rest of us feel like we're wanting. So do whatever you can to just put blinders on or headphones. Do what you need to. Going to your car after the exams is a great idea because it keeps you focused on your path. [11:03] Don't Compare Yourself with Others It's so easy to get scared and bogged down. It's easy to compare yourself to other people. It's so human. But at the end of the day, just focus on what you need to do and you will be your best guide in terms of what you need. Then you can course-correct along the way. "Compare and compete with yourself. Don't worry about other people." Everyone has a different way of learning. Because we learn information from different pieces and we have different tools, what works for one person could be completely different from what works for another individual. That's why sharing your grades and how you studied would only breed competition and feelings of anxiety for everyone. [12:52] Thriving in a Competitive Environment It's really challenging to be going from a nurturing environment to one that does not. In this case, try to look for 1-2 classmates who share in your philosophy, who want to collaborate and not compete. See if you can have a study group. You don't have to necessarily study with them, but maybe just be able to sit across from one another. So each one is studying his or her own way and at their own pace, but just to have the company is great. It can be lonely to study for hours and hours and hours by yourself and to feel that isolation. So if you can find a friend or someone else who is on the same page as you. But it doesn't mean being with those talking about their scores and how they studied, as they're more into comparing than collaborating. [14:46] Community College is Hard! Just tune all that stuff out with regard to people saying community college is easy. People will just make statements about anything and everything. It's really, really hard to put blinders on all the time and just focus on what we need to do. "As human beings and as premeds. It's so hard to not get bogged down in other people's judgments and statements. Just try to tune it out as much as you can." Go to your car or do something nice for yourself that works for you. Keep listening to this podcast as well. Please do call in. The more of you that call in, the more people out there will feel that they have support. Stuck in a rut, Leon Logothetis left his office job to travel the world, giving people free rides in a broken-down English taxi-cab, riding a vintage motorbike around the world, and following a fellow traveler through India without ever knowing where he was going. Along the way, he learned a few things about life and the human spirit. The wisest words he heard, and the greatest lessons he learned, came from everyday people he met on his travels. He became their accidental student, and after years of sharing those lessons through TV shows, college tours, books, and in the media, he realized that he had also become an accidental teacher. His experiences are more than a collection of stories, they have become a way of life—the Way of the Traveler. What is the Way of the Traveler? It's a roadmap to living your best life, loving with all your heart, and exploring the world. You will learn profound exercises to help you uncover your true path.

Today you're going to be hearing from an English stand-up comedian, Tom Ward. Tom's still pretty new to the world of comedy but he's already making waves and has been winning over audiences to his unique style of comedy since he started out. His observational humour is really top class and the way he mixes bizarre observations of the mundanity of modern life really cracks me up, be that his jokes on boiling water, his three favourite types of silence, or his ex-girlfriend's fringe, his live act is something special and Tom Ward is destined for greatness. Of that I have no doubt.
