Josh Durso and Nate Sharman are back on Out of Bounds one day after one of the most dominant performances we've seen this season. Scottie Scheffler crushes the field at the CJ Cup, tying a PGA Tour event record and picking up his first win of 2025. Despite a slower start and some questions around his iron play earlier in the year, Scheffler looks locked in as he heads toward the PGA Championship. They also break down Bryson DeChambeau's win at LIV Golf Korea. Then they debate the “small field vs. full field” conversation after comments from Erik Van Rooyen, who played his way into next week's Signature Event. Van Rooyen's strong stats raise questions about how deep the PGA Tour talent pool really is. Plus, a look ahead to the PGA Championship — Jordan Spieth's push for the career Grand Slam, and why the Truist Championship (formerly Wells Fargo) will have a strong field even without Scottie Scheffler.Watch the entire episode below or subscribe on your favorite podcast platform.https://youtu.be/jkeictAcv98

Smylie is joined by Erik van Rooyen following an incredibly emotional few days for the latest winner on the PGA Tour. Erik and his caddie Alex Gaugert celebrated their win at the World Wide Technology Championship with heavy hearts, as their friend and college teammate Jon Trasamar processes his final days with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Erik played brilliantly in his last nine holes at the WWT, shooting an 8-under 28 to win the tournament and dedicate the victory to Jon. Erik and Alex then traveled immediately to see Jon, and shares some of the memories made on that visit. Erik's win was incredibly significant for his career as well - he entered the week sitting in the 125th, and final, spot on the FedEx Cup points list that would earn him a Tour card next season, and with the win, he guaranteed his full status for 2024.
On today's episode of "Golf Today," Damon and Eamon discuss changes to the world handicap index system implemented by the R&A. Erik Van Rooyen fired a blistering 28 on the back nine which included an eagle on the finishing hole to win by 2 shots in Mexico to claim his 2nd PGA Tour title. The win was very emotional for EVR as his friend is battling terminal cancer, and he showed a lot of perspective afterward. Is there another Tiger comeback brewing? Tiger looked to be walking better this week as he caddied for Charlie in a tournament. We will discuss whether he will make a comeback or not. What a week in golf it has been, so much to talk about we barely have time for the show opener. And today's show isn't from the Australian Golf Centre, home of the PGA of Australia and Golf Australia, Nick is live from Central Victoria not far from Cathedral, and Mark is overlooking the beautiful 4th hole at Box Hill Golf Course in Melbourne. We start by looking at the Erik Van Rooyen's incredible win in the World Wide Technology Championship. A great performance with so many brilliant stories coming out of it, not only from Erik. Nick and Mark discuss how a number of Australian golfers from the current Order of Merit will be able to go to Round 1 of LIV qualifying, and how the PGA tour might respond to the players who do go to qualifying. Mark's view is that the PGA will not be impressed if any Australian player goes to LIV qualifying, and asks Nick for his opinion. Leads to a chat about what World Rankings mean, Nick believes that rankings may become less relevant over time.Mark mentions his view that LIV and PGA talks are not progressing. Nick describes it as an ongoing saga.Mark is over the moon that Robert MacIntyre is coming to the Australia Open, but less impressed about Michael Block and doesn't want him in with the big boys. Nick and Mark discuss some of the players coming out for the Open, the field of women and men is extraordinary.But....onto the big news story of the week. The Box Hill Pro-Am. Mark promised he'd shoot a course record of 62, however he shot 72, just a touch off the course record. Nick played well, particularly given he was injured. Mark has a tip for Nick on his speaking content and some of the stories he should focus on.Lots of feedback this week, and some great questions from you that Nick and Mark answer on the pod. Keep them coming in, always keen to hear from you. A ripping question from Chris about the 1996 Australian Open where only Greg Norman shot under par, given weather conditions, and Chris wants to know what the worst conditions Nick and Mark ever played in were.Leads to a great story when Mark thought his playing partner was going to be Tiger, but the pairing didn't go his way...instead Tiger was paired with Mark's nemesis. We also had a lot of feedback this week on one aspect of the Box Hill Pro-Am....to do with something Mark Allen was wearing. Troy has sent a video of a putting grip that he asks the boys for their thoughts on. You can see the video here.Nick takes us around the world with the PING global results.A great Top 5 this week, inspired by Andrew Kelly, Mark counts down the Top 5 most unusual starts to golf swings. And, while we're on Andrew Kelly, Nick's masterclass is on stepping into the ball when driving.Talk Birdie To Me, new episodes weekly wherever you get your podcasts. Erik van Rooyen is more than a PGA Tour winner. Among many other identifiers, he's a father, a husband, and a music enthusiast. He's conscious, though, of his role as an entertainer and how that impacts his relationship to golf fans around the world. Erik showed his colors quickly in this session: he's curious, thoughtful, and open about the highs and lows of competing on Tour. Just wait 'til you hear his take on the Shrink-hated Pimento Cheese sandwich. In this session: caddie relationships, love languages, and the first-ever baby appearance on GGT. Episode #353 Erik discusses everything about the Player's Championship from conditions to strategy, his partnership with Ecco Golf, and the unique footwear designed for him! The Ecco Biom Hybrid 4 EVR is a spin on the current footwear style from Ecco designed for Erik Van Rooyen. There are some unique details built into the shoe that are inspired by Erik. Aside from Golf, Erik is a musician at heart and his musical inspiration can be viewed on the top and back of the shoe. Guitar string outlines work their way up the tongue of the shoe. The back of the shoe features what looks like guitar strings to help you pull your shoes on snugly. The last unique feature on this comfortable spikeless design is a "sunset sole". The light orange to blue design really makes the shoe pop. You won't want to miss out on this Erik Van Rooyen inspired design from Ecco! To view more from Ecco, click here. Erik Van Rooyen joined us on the podcast to talk through his journey to the PGA Tour. Erik shared with us what it meant to him missing out on The Masters, knowing he's good enough to play there and using that as motivation. Erik is now living in Florida and a member of The Bears Club, but still is getting blue ticked by Rory McIlroy. No job in golf has evolved more than the tour caddie. Once just a set of shoulders to carry a bag, caddies have grown to assume different roles for different players. Some have been elevated to where they're mentioned in the same breath as the guys hitting the shot. Others are just friends or family with no prior caddying experience but serve as a player's trusted ally and protector. The job has simultaneously grown more complicated thanks to the myriad demands on tour; and easier because of new tools at their disposal. In this episode, Daniel Rapaport talks to caddies and the players they work for about the new responsibilities for caddies, how partnerships are formed, and what happens when those relationships go south.
Alex Myers, Sam Weinman and Daniel Rapaport discuss the chances the PGA Tour returns in June, golf terms that they can't stand and their experiences with Michael Jordan as a golfer. Also, South African golfer Erik van Rooyen talks to Golf Digest about acclimating to playing in America, how he got his temper under control on the course and his stellar guitar playing.
Jeff is joined remotely by Erik Van Rooyen as they chat about Erik's love for music, joggers and how he got into guitar. Erik also plays a few tunes and answers YOUR questions! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listen to new episodes of the Callaway Golf Podcast with Jeff Neubarth every Tuesday and Thursday as he takes you inside the outgoing marketing department of Callaway HQ.
