We remember Sahar Khodayari, a passionate supporter of the Iranian football team. Sahar fatally set herself alight in Tehran after her trial for attempting to enter a football stadium, disguised as a man, was postponed. Women in Iran have been stopped from going to stadiums to watch men’s sporting events since the 1980s. This caused a huge outpouring of emotion on social media using the hashtag "blue girl " - a reference to the colours of her favourite team Esteqlal. Maryam Shojaee is the sister of the national team captain Masoud. She's been campaigning tirelessly for the rule to be changed as she has been explaining to Shari. Back in February, we spoke to the Jamaican distance runner Kemoy Campbell. Kemoy collapsed while competing at a meeting in New York. He was told by doctors that he actually died on the track. When we spoke to him then, he still hoped to continue his career. But seven months on, doctors have now instructed him to retire from the sport. Shari Vahl caught up with him again this week and he told us how painful it was to give up on his dream of competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It's billed as the pinnacle of women's golf. Every two years, the top players from Europe and the United States take to the greens for the Solheim Cup. This weekend, the US are aiming to make it a hat-trick of titles at Gleneagles in Scotland. 80,000 tickets have been sold across the three days - a record for the sport in this country. What does it take to win such an iconic event? Hear from American golfer Brittany Lincicome, who has won the event four times. We also hear from Olympic sailor Hannah Mills, who explains why she is campaigning against plastic use in sport, and Paralympic swimming star Mallory Weggerman, who tells us she was close to quitting after suffering a freak injury back in 2014. He is able to recover from errant shots and gives himself opportunities. He also putts well from 6-20 foot away and is able to save par. Kip Ingle, The Golf Auction.com, calls in from Augusta to talk to Holly about the massive global online auction. There will be more than 900 items to bid on. One of the featured items for bid is Jack Fleck's 1955 Ben Hogan 2-9 irons he used to upset Hogan. Fleck was the young professional who came from behind to beat Hogan in 1955. Considered one of the biggest upsets in golf, Fleck was a virtually unknown touring pro from Iowa. He prevented Hogan from winning a record 5th U.S. Open title forcing an 18-hole playoff at the 1955 Open, and did so using a custom made set of Ben Hogan irons. Hogan's company began making clubs in 1953. They were the only two in the field playing with Ben Hogan clubs. Bob points out that Rory has won a couple of FedExCup events but not the FedExCup itself. Holly asks if there are any late season players who may bubble to the top. Holly also wonders if the FedExCup and the fact that players are trying to make the Ryder Cup could be a distraction for some players. Keegan Bradley said that it is a tough spot to be in at this time. Bob feels that the FedExCup takes care of itself with the way you play. The Ryder Cup is not just results but more of how you play. As for a prediction for a Barclays winner, Bob feels that you have to go with a player like Snedeker who is in the hunt for the Ryder Cup. Holly asks local listeners to come out next Wednesday to see herself and Rich B do the Ice Bucket Challenge? Then maybe head over to Sam Snead's Tavern for a snack. Sneads is another new sponsor for The Golf Insiders. Jeff Babineau, Golfweek Editor, calls in to talk to Holly and Rich. This is an exciting time of the year the way the FedExCup is set up. It used to be a big gap and a break in the season, but now there is meaningful golf to follow. Babineau really likes Jim Furyk and how he has been playing lately at these big events. He feels with Furyk's experience that he may make a good run in the FedExCup. Camilo Villegas went back to back in 2008 winning the first two events of the FedExCup. Babineau stresses how hard it is to win on a weekly basis and you appreciate the wins much more. Gunn Yang captures the U.S. Amateur Championship. Lincicome turned professional in December 2004 at age 19, after finishing in 20th place in the LPGA qualifying school tournament to earn her tour card. Home-schooled, she had graduated from high school the previous spring. Her first victory was in the 2006 HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship, where she defeated Michelle Wie in the quarterfinals, Lorena Ochoa in the semifinals, and Juli Inkster in the final match. She captured her second win in April 2007 at the Ginn Open, again holding off Ochoa to capture the victory on the 72nd hole. In 2007, Lincicome became a member of the U.S. Solheim Cup team for the first time. In singles play, she lost to Laura Davies. Years earlier, as a 12 year-old, Lincicome had carried the scoring sign for Davies at the JCPenney Classic LPGA event, leading Davies to good-naturedly refer to Lincicome as "Sign Girl."[2] In 2009, Lincicome won the Kraft Nabisco Championship, an LPGA major, after making an eagle on the final hole to leap frog Kristy McPherson, who held a one shot lead going into the final hole.Visit the Golf Talk Radio sponsors and tell them GTRadio sent you they help make the show possible!
