Join your host, Jeffery Wang, in this inspiring episode of the 10 Lessons Learned, where we discuss invaluable insights for career, business, and life. In this episode, we welcome Jason Wong, an accredited leadership coach, strategy ninja, and a kindness practitioner. Hailing from one of Sydney's most successful Chinese families, Jason shares his unique journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and finding fulfillment beyond material success. With engaging discussions about re calibrating life's priorities, nurturing meaningful relationships, promoting diversity and inclusion, and constantly learning, we uncover some of Jason's key lessons that have shaped his leadership style and understanding of success. Tune in for this enlightening conversation and walk away with practical nuggets of wisdom that go beyond the textbook. About Jason Wong Jason was born into one of Sydney's most successful and influential Chinese families and has fond memories of running around Sydney's Chinatown after school. He was educated at one of Australia's top selective private schools for boys and with his family's network of connections, the world was his oyster. But his life didn't play out the way that he thought it would and, influenced by a number of key people and events, he embarked on a journey involving lots of deep reflection and making plenty of personal adjustments. He has held multiple leadership roles throughout his career but believes that his most important and most satisfying role was being a stay-at-home Dad to his three daughters, which included upping his game as partner to his amazing wife. He works to improve technology leadership in not-for-profit, for-purpose and community-focused organisations and he now runs his own coaching & strategic consultancy practice, Tyger Technology Leadership, developing tech leaders of the future. He is a former president of his children's school P&C association and is now the Board Secretary of the NSW P&C Federation, working with influential education stakeholders to improve public schooling in NSW. He also facilitates local Dads groups and events, to support and engage Dads in their parenting journeys. A few people leave deep impressions in your life, and you have certainly left one with me. Of the thousands of people I've come across during business, some just lives out their values in how they behave and treat others around them.

In this episode we interview an amazing lady, Marie Fulmer. Marie is the woman behind the camera of our lovely new photos, she is someone we admire, and we really think you'll want to hear about what's she's up to. As a single mom she's been on the receiving end of good things: support, compassion, and gifts. But Marie experienced a gap that was relational, communal, and in being understood. So this creative caregiver formed a special group to fill in what had been missing! Strong Like Mom is now a thriving (and growing) dynamic bunch of single moms who support each other AND the community around them. We want you to hear all about what this group is, where they're headed next, and how you can join in this impactful work. On this episode of INCOGNITO the podcast, Michael interviews Dr. Kimberly Narain! Dr. Narain completed her residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Following fellowships at Harvard Medical School and UCLA, Dr. Narain served as a Specialty Training Advanced Research Fellow in the Department of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research at UCLA, where she later earned a Ph.D. in Health Services from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and is now an Assistant Professor In-Residence at the UCLA School of Medicine. In this conversation, Michael and Dr. Narain discuss the importance of creating work environments in which everyone can contribute, seeing yourself as in relationships of mutual benefit with others as opposed to in competition with them, and looking for the win-win in every situation. Dr. Narain shares what inspired her to write her new book, The Cycle of a Dream: A Kid's Introduction to Structural Racism in America, and the many benefits of seeking out different perspectives and untold stories at all ages. Key Takeaways: Everyone has something to contribute when under the right circumstances Practice humility; think of others first Don't be wedded to the strategy, be wedded to the goal Stop seeing yourself in competition with others, remove hierarchy Ask: What's missing, can I help? Appreciate people's time Lead with self-reflection instead of blame Look for the win-win: setting aside oneself to serve others will ultimately benefit everyone Seek out different perspectives, look for untold stories Start small Dr. Narain's Media Recommendations: The Ezra Klein Show, “We Build Civilizations on Status. Lesson 233: Everyone Has Something To Say Right now anyone can say anything and broadcast it to a ton of people with one click. It's cool but it's also super dangerous. Rather than focus on that, we should focus on what matters to us. We don't have to read every tweet or even worse, reply to them. Understand this, most people stay behind their screens and spew things they might actually mean but can't say in person. Do yourself a favour and see them for what they are, noise. Do you like noise? Series: John Speaker: Jonathan Olsen Sermon Text: John 7:25–36 [25] Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? [26] And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? [27] But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” [28] So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. [29] I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” [30] So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. [31] Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?” [32] The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him. [33] Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. [34] You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” [35] The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? [36] What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?” (ESV)

We can learn from the waiter at PF Changs, a book written 100 years ago, or from two women on a podcast who had no idea they needed to change their oil every 3,000 miles. Some Quotes from the Episode: “What would you teach the world is a heuristic for self reflection that leads to increased self awareness.” “So, now, when you look at your neighbor … you look at them from a different angle and wonder what they have to teach you. You can wonder about what they have learned in this world.” “We can use this philosophy and this awareness to live a better life in community with others. So, instead of reacting to challenging situations with another person with anger, or annoyance or irritation, we can contemplate, “What would you teach me if given the opportunity?” “Part of my mission is to have everyone realize that they have this incredible value that they can add to the world and that their life is meaningful, and their life is worth learning from.” “All our mistakes, all our failures, all of our errors, are opportunities to do better next time. When we learn something from our mistakes, we can benefit by not repeating that mistake, and, by sharing what we’ve learned, we can make if of value to others.” “Imagine a place where millions of lessons that are the result of millions of lives are available for the people of the world to learn from.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lessonslived/message

The Latter Fire: James Swallow. Star Trek has always featured outlandish ideas such as huge space creatures and other pretty out-there science fiction concepts. However, at its core, Star Trek is really about the struggles that we all face in overcoming negative forces such as violence and fear to come together to build a better world. No one understands that basic idea more than renowned Trek author James Swallow! In this episode off Literary Treks hosts Matthew Rushing and Dan Gunther are joined by James Swallow to talk about his latest book The Latter Fire. We discuss the genesis of the story, world-building, fear, prejudice and preconceptions, a romantic foil, stretching the Prime Directive, a cosmozoan, everyone has something to do, what’s next for James and where to find him.
