Who led family devotions in your family? Most of the time it was my dad. He would read something from the Bible or we would operate out of a devotional book, and he would start things off. And so I'm following his footsteps in that regard as the spiritual leader of my household.
One of my core beliefs as a children's ministries director, one that I continue to hold today, is that children already experience and know God in a deep and personal way. Kids are not junior varsity Christians. They are able to communicate with God, to hear from Him, and to engage with Him in so many incredible ways. But because we are adults, we don't always see it. We don't always believe it. What looks like child's play to us can really be a form of prayer. What looks like them using their imagination can really be them engaging with God in His Word. What looks like sitting quietly with a coloring book can actually be a form of silence and solitude. And that's why I love this interview with Joy Wendling. Joy is a spiritual parenting coach, and she helps mamas use play with their children to engage with God and build their faith. “But what if I don't like to play?” you ask. “What if I'm not very good at it? What do I do if I'm not very creative?” Joy offers us some very practical steps to take when it comes to using play to talk with our kids about their faith. And let me assure you, you can do this. Kari MEET JOY WENDLING: Joy Wendling is a Children's and Family Minister turned Stay-at-Home Mom to her 5 little girls. Growing up in the South, Jesus has always been a part of her life, but it wasn't until college that she came to know him as a friend and to realize that he desires a daily relationship with her. This experience started Joy's journey and passion for equipping families to take responsibility of their children's discipleship. For a time, her Family Ministry also overlapped with Christian Early Childhood Education, which is where Joy fell in love with play and its benefits for learning and well-being. Joy is now a play advocate and believes play is the best way to engage children in discipleship. Currently, Joy is encouraging mamas to point their children to Christ with play at her blog CreatedtoPlay.com and is the host of the podcast Playfully Faithful Parenting. Leftovers. 11.25.18 Casey ValenciaLeftovers: Food you have to think aboutLeftover: Was once life-givingWe kept based on a memoryIf unexamined, can make you sickOur leftovers need to be exposed and examined. Luke 17:11-19 (NKJV) Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”PLOT TWISTAnd he was a Samaritan.Example Leftover #1: You have to Fear Sin Or Agree With It.2 Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind. Example Leftover #2: You have to Judge or Be Judged.Three Steps to Deal with Leftovers:Expose: Say what you are thinking out loud to a safe person. Examine: Pray and allow the Holy Spirit to correct your thinking. Express: Go out of your comfort zone to express God’s Love.“Made Well” = SOZO, Saved, Delivered, HealedWhen ALL you want is Jesus He’s more than you DREAMED.

Beautiful and Powerful 1 Peter 2:15-3:7, 05.14.17 Mother’s Day Woman bears God’s Image: Beautiful + Powerful - 1 Peter 2:15 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men She is Beautiful 1 Peter 3:3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel A Woman reflects the nature of God. She is Beautiful in her Spirit, Soul, and Body. 1 Peter 3:4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. A powerful woman chooses submission to her husband because she trusts God more than her husband. …..Not because he always makes the right decisions. She is Complex 1 Peter 3:7 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor The thrill of the conquest is owing to her complexity. Yet, she must never be fully conquered. She is Powerful 1 Peter 3:7 giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Women are fragile… but so is Plutonium. She is both fragile and powerful. The difference between a nuclear bomb and a nuclear power plant are the control rods. They must be made of an element able to withstand the release of neutrons without undergoing fission. Be the size God made you. Not indefinite pause. Beautiful + Complex + Powerful: Honor 1 Peter 3:8-9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
