Lorna Borenstein is the Founder and CEO of Grokker, a business that improves health engagement and employee well-being for other companies. Some of their notable clients include Target, General Electric, and CVS Health. She founded her company after a multi-year sabbatical around the world, seeing the need for well-being solutions everywhere she went. Before Grokker, Lorna worked as the President of Move Inc. and the Vice President of Marketing, Search, and Marketplace at Yahoo. She is also the author of the book It's Personal: The Business Case for Caring, which also champions her viewpoint on taking care of employees. She also contributes as a contributing editor for Forbes. In this episode… One of the greatest insights during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic was on the state of employees. Most employees in the marketplace have experienced some version of burnout or exhaustion, whether that be mental or physical. More importantly, there is more and more research coming out on the correlation between employee health and productivity. Simply put, healthy employees work better. Lorna Borenstein has seen this principle play out in her own life as well as with her employees. Her business, Grokker, is designed to help people improve their own well-being in the context of their workplace. She was inspired by her multi-year sabbatical where she learned to finally rest after years of running herself thin. Want to know what she learned along the way? Dov Pollack hosts Lorna Borenstein, the Founder and CEO of Grokker, on this episode of the Next Wave Leadership podcast to hear her thoughts on creating a great workplace, improving your own well-being, and strengthening your business as a whole. Lorna goes into detail on topics such as persuasion and how to start your own business the right way. They also discuss her own career and some of the hardest questions she faced along the way.

Have you ever thought to yourself “If we only could have paid a bit more money, we would have landed the A-player we really needed to hire”? For an organization to find long-term success, it requires a commitment from all parties. Employers have to commit to employees and vice-versa. But how can organizations get it right in a world of overworked and stressed-out staff members?Joining I Don't Care to talk about this is employee wellness and engagement guru Lorna Borenstein, CEO and founder of Grokker. She had the vision to start the employee wellbeing company after working for big tech companies like eBay and Yahoo and realizing the employee-employer dynamic needed to shift.Borenstein explained the transformation. “The agreement used to be that a company would pay you well, and you wouldn't bring your problems to work. Now, younger generations aren't making money like their parents, and they were raised by people who gave them a voice. They have no blind loyalty and expect more.”Grokker recently released its 2021 Working Americans' State of Stress Report finding that 80% of workers are stressed out. Younger generations have the highest levels. This stress impacts their lives at work and home.Borenstein said that for employees to be engaged requires a sense of purpose, belonging, and balance. Most companies do well on the first two, but the balance is harder. The pandemic, in some ways, had made balance more possible. “The good news is that companies woke up and realized their people are their business,” she said. That awakening led to the Human Connection Movement, a philosophy that Borenstein writes about in her book, It's Personal: The Business Case for Caring. “Employees are saying you need to care about me.”Borenstein also discussed examples of the changing paradigm with clients like CVS Health. She noted, “Now 85% of employers consider employee wellbeing to be part of their business strategy; so, it's culture as strategy.”

Punk Rock HR Episode 100: People keep saying that we're living in an unprecedented era of disruption. While this is new for us, humankind has lived through war, pestilence, plagues, and we have persevered. We persevere because we hustle, and we move quickly. We think about innovative solutions, but we also rely on our community. So when a member of my community told me about Lorna Borenstein and the work she is doing to help in this time of crisis, I knew I needed to have her on the podcast. She is a business owner, an entrepreneur, and is at the epicenter of helping people do their best work and feel great at a time when that's under assault.   Lorna Borenstein is the founder and CEO of a well-being company called Grokker. Her company has created a platform where credentialed experts can offer videos and teach people how to live better. They focus on five aspects of well-being; fitness, mental health, sleep, nutrition, and financial wellness. Up until last week, Grokker was not available to everyone; it was only open to organizations and companies looking to promote wellness to their workforce. But Lorna and her colleagues are now offering all videos free to consumers and businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak. It's a pretty special thing when someone can jump in and ask, "What can I do in this moment of crisis?" Lorna is someone doing just that.    In this episode you’ll hear: Why Lorna created Grokker and why she decided to make the platform free to businesses and individuals during the COVID-19 outbreak. We discuss the type of content and videos you can find on the platform. Lorna shares why she believes older generations are becoming more comfortable using technology and therefore, will have easy entry into utilizing videos found on Grokker. Some thoughts around poverty and accessibility in isolation. We answer the question, "How can working parents chill out right now?"  Lorna describes the COVID-19 Preparedness Program, which is now available for access.   Resources from this episode: Grokker - Free for BusinessGrokker - Free for IndividualsNew COVID-19 Preparedness ProgramLorna on LinkedIn Lorna on TwitterGrokker on TwitterLaurie on InstagramLaurie on LinkedInRead more from LaurieWork with Laurie   *** EPISODE CREDITS: If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment.
